Met him in a lift once in Ireland, no picture.” I just told him I’m a massive fan and i love your sh*t”. He turned around gave me a small hug and said “ this has been a lovely moment for me, i love meeting kind souls” we both stood back and rode the elevator down to the ground floor, the doors opened and he stepped out first turning to me as he said ‘ have a great night’. I will never forget you Willem Dafoe, Legend.

its odd how it works. Decaprio should have got one earlier, but they wait till people keep saying he deserved it then give it to him for the Revenant. That was a good movie and the bear attack was insane.. but as for acting?? Gilbert Grape or Basketball Diaries kill it. Its him injured in the wilderness for 3 hours. Wolf of Wall Street etc. So many other contenders, but they just gave it to him as like, ok, its your turn now.
i'd actually put Hardy ahead of him in that film as he once again displays his amazing diversity and mastery of accents. I know ofc they were in different categories, lead vs supporting tho.

He is too graceful to ever do that. He doesn't need an Oscar, though, he is an actor and an artist, not a celebrity and a star, he doesn't have to rely on fashion and trend and zeitgeist, he is the artists' choice, any director worth their salt would have him, and you can be sure actors also love working with him, because he lets them shine next to him.

For me the best moment is when Elias finds Barnes in the jungle in Platoon and the look of relief on his face when he realises it's a 'friendly' soldier instead of NVA. He has a huge grin on his face and then it closes up on his eyes, and you can see the smile fall as the realisation dawns on him of Barnes' true intentions. That controlled, precise acting is what does it for me and Tom Berenger is also incredible in this movie, as is the rest of the cast.
