  • While working at a base that doesn't have on-base lodging, I have spent close to a year of my life living out of hotels for military training. This video will show you a day in the life of a drill serving guardsman and what it's like to live out of a hotel. (before the pandemic)

    It's better to do online shopping with walmart and then drive up and let them load your car. That way it's pretty hard to let the budget get away from you.

    Spent 6 years in the Army Nation Guard and 2 years in the Army Reserves. Thinking about going back in and this time going Air National Guard. Very helpful, thanks!

    Best hotel to say in would definitely be The Courtyard they are designed for extended stays. They topical have a kitchenette and a stocked kitchen

    Wow! This was super helpful; thanks!
    I'm glad that they provide a hotel since I wasn't sure how that would work if there's a little bit of distance involved.
    Do you get a stipend for your lodgings?

    • @clarekirste
      @clarekirste  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! lodging stipends depend on what status you're on. if you're drilling then they will pay for the room but there is no stipend

      @@lauram5404 a few years ago when i joined it wasn't difficult but there is some in-processing that happens which will evaluate you. there are some physical and educational tests, and that's where your eligibility is determined. Most bases will be excited for more recruits, but you do have to be an ideal candidate

      @@clarekirste my recruiter is acting like there’s such a long line and that I won’t get in for months :( but thank you I’ll just keep trying

      @@lauram5404 I am sorry to hear about that Laura. I think with the pandemic things may be a little bit different. Keep your head up. I think your determination will pay off

    This is a great video. I'm in the process of getting my contract squared away and I was wondering what drill weekends looked like.

      Thank you for the feedback! Everybody's drill experience is unique, but if you're ever lodging in a hotel for a long period of time, now you're an expert haha. best of luck with everything Zion.

    Cool gig. Former USMC here. Which base are you drilling at? Pease AFB? Where did you attend basic? Are you going for 20? You been to some overseas deployments? What's your job there? I'm an aircraft mechanic for the airlines 25 years now. I'm service connected waiting for my id card so I can go on base sometime. I've been out since 1988.
