Ernie, I love your content. I must admit, every time I board a SWA flight, I look to the left as I'm boarding and hoping that your on the flight deck. keep up the good work,, and thank you for your service. If you ever have a layover in SRQ and want to go out fishing or just boat riding let me know. This offer includes your flight crew,, if they want to go.
Pensacola and Gulf shores are my favorite places on this earth! I’ll be heading to Pensacola in October and I’ll say hi if you might be my pilot! I fly almost every week on Southwest and I’ve been keeping an eye out for you and I’d be honored to meet you and shake your hand or even a fist bump! Thanks for your service sir!
Thank you so much for this video! People, please don’t take this information lightly! This is absolutely a hidden gem in the military and Is a powerful method!! Listen to these men!!
If I could go back and do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m a Marine, it’s what I am. As an enlisted reservist, they put me through college. For 26 years of.my life in total the Corps gave me nothing but opportunities. In 8.5 years, I’ll enjoy a very nice retirement and benefits package thanks to them. BUT, my advice to anyone who feels inclined to serve their country and pursue a career as an aviator is to go guard. It’s the path where you, for the most part, you’ll know what and where you’ll be flying. Fly as much as you can both in the guard and however else you can, and your road to an airline will be much shorter. I can’t speak as to the best civilian route, that’s just not the world I’ve experienced. But as far as taking the military route. The Navy - Marine Corps culture is not giving a xx!!# what you want, you should just feel lucky to get what they give you. They are right, but you do have other options if you can’t live with that yet want to serve your country. Yet another great video Ernie!
Did not know you flew C-5's...I have to admit, my heart skipped a beat when you said that. Please talk some more about flying the most awesome plane in the history of planes. The C-5 will always be fondly remembered by me as my "freedom bird" bringing me home from deployment.
Hello Ern! Nice to follow the Q&A in the Cockpit....always a pleasure to fly with you! So much thank for your time Ern;)) Have a great weekend......warm greetings......Betsy......
Hi flying with big ern I was watching a Southwest Airlines live at 35 and I thought to myself that I would never be in a Southwest Airlines video but I saw my self holding a iPad and I saw my dad clapping and also that was a awesome video
Hi flying with big ern so I saw a Southwest Airlines video that was made 2 years ago and at the start it said at Southwest Airlines we connect people that is most important and I don’t know if u remember this but I saw you doing a pre flight check and one of the Southwest Airlines film crew was filming you do the pre flight check and I was like omg that is flying with big ern and also you did a awesome video
Ernie, I really enjoyed this week's video, especially the Q&A with Scot. It brought back memories of my time in the ANG. I joined the USAF (the mid-70s) then joined the ANG (retired mid-90s). My base was a flying unit (A-7s) which transitioned to F-16s. I would see hopeful pilot candidates (no women at that time) come and go. Sadly, my old ANG base is no longer a flying unit. I'm hoping you'll do a video: Plane Spotting with Big Ern. I'm looking forward to the next video. Great work & I love the new editing!
Looks like Ernie flying is a late model 737NG...can't wait to see you flying the MAX. I thought Ern flew the C5A in the military like a retired Lt. Colonel who flies Southwest (Co-Pilot) and currently resides in Denver that I talked to at LAX.
@@FlyingwithBigErn I bet…..perhaps one day you could do a video tour of the C5? I am sure you know the right people 😜I am curios to see if they have a printer!?🤪
Can you please go over what apps you use for flying airlines; and what the airline offers for free such as jepp charts. Would also be awesome to see how you are logging flight time
Question for Anyone out there how would it be to transition from a Fighter to airlines or even be in the AGR full time. Quality of life benefits any pls answer.
Hi Ernie. Is it only time that dictates when you become captain with your airline or most of them or other qualifications for you to become the captain and I suppose more money too. Only asking because I know you both do the exact same thing in the cockpit. Thanks for your videos as they are awesome and love when I see a new one ready. Ken
Love your channel. I live in NW Indiana and anytime Southwest flies by my house, I wonder if Big Ern is flying that airplane. I do have a question about getting a licence for the airlines. What is the policy for most airlines when you are colorblind? Can you get a waiver for this?
Awesome video Ern! I have a quick question though, do I enlist in the air national guard though the air force? Or is it a whole different recruiter? Hoping to enlist next summer!
If it was not for the Air national guard I would never be watching this video. That is where my Parents met. My mom was a Flight surgical nurse and my dad in charge of something I think loading. I do not know.. Both parents were Officers my mom got out as a Capt. and my dad retired as a Lt. Col. Fresno ANG 144th fighter wing. if you know about the William tell contests. this unit cleans house all the time and wind but others are going against war veterans who had war combat experience.
@@FlyingwithBigErn yes they were.. at least when my parents were in the unit. It also was nice to know people in High places to help my father finish in the reserves in Chicago. Nice to know a 3 star Gen that could put a lot pf pressure on the unit... Just saying
I found a counselor from ASUs info and I’m going to email them for the requirements to transfer over to ASU. I want to get my degree and learn to fly at the same time at ASU. It’d be a dream to fly B1s in the guard. LA to PHX is a dream 😂 cheers 🤙
Hey I’m a Freshmen in college and getting a degree in aviation, already have a PPL, I will have all my licenses in abt two years, I want to fly for both the airlines and the Guard, I’d assume getting into the guard would be before the airlines but how soon can you start an airline career while being in the guard?
Great question! You can start as soon as you have the hours. There is no requirement for the guard (apart from the seasoning days) to be there full-time. I would offer the advice of getting really proficient in your guard aircraft first before making the transition. Juggling two airplanes is not impossible, it just takes focus and attention to detail in order to be good in both. Best of luck!
Awesome! Thank you! Would you suggest anything to do and make note when applying for a unit to have more of a chance to stand out, when I don’t come from a military family and not enlisted

Great video. I feel like the guard/reserves is still kind of unknown but becoming a lot more popular these days.

Great Q&A. Quite a few of our F-15 pilots were prior enlisted maintenance folks also. Big props to our Guard/Reserve folks.
Captain upgrade for you coming soon?? Love all the vids! Keep it up!
We’ll see!🤞🏽
Back in the day I refueled a couple of times from an AZ ANG KC-97 over Germany. Seems like yesterday. Great vid.
Thank you for your service
G,day from Sydney Australia.
*Great Q&A about the Guard.
*Also love the SR-22 cross country flying "observation learning'.

Thanks for this.

Very interesting. Still find it amazing that you can fly such Gucci aircraft part time! Our Air Force down here in New Zealand is very small

You can do it! Get out there and look for units!
Hey Ern where do I start to get my PPL? Thanks for another great vid as always! Saw Freedom one roll up to SNA the other day
