  • Choosing the right degree can be a tough but nevertheless important task. Today, I will be detailing my course Civil Engineering, what it is like to study? What modules are easier and harder? What is the intensity like? I will be refining my knowledge around my university, Imperial College London including what it is like to study at university? What it is like to study at Imperial College London (ICL)? Much of the information I provide today can be loosely applied to other engineering modules and other universities!

    That is a really good video. If I was applying, this sort of video will help out a lot. Personally I'm more of a maths person but I'm decent at physics and I was considering engineering when applying before changing to maths after the amount of awards I won in competitions.

    One important thing I will note to people watching is that some places do change the modules from time to time. I'm a first year myself and most of the modules I'm taking are new (we're the first group to study them). There were similar modules in previous years but some minor differences in either the content covered or a different in how the assessment works. My point is that don't be surprised if Deniz says something in this video and when you study civil engineering at Imperial, you notice a difference because it happens at times.

      Very good point. The information I used to make this video are correct as of the 22/23 academic year.

    Hi deniz i'm a phd student at the university of algeria, and since i'm having a visit to this college i would like to ask you mate if you have some details about the laboratorys of civil engineering thier ,thanks

      Hi there, thank you for watching, Imperial has top quality labs that a lot of PhD students use for their research. As an undergraduate I haven’t really got to use the labs at all so I can’t really give specific details

    I do maths, physics, history, and further maths. in y12 looking at doing civil engineering. Is chemistry helpful, if so what would i have missed going into a bachelor's- is it just material properties etc.? Also, how helpful is A Level Further Maths? Should I take it to AS or the full way? Thanks in advance.

      @denizsancar  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Chemistry can be helpful for sure I know a few people that did chemistry on my course but is nowhere near as important to maths, physics and to an extent further maths which is more helpful but also not required. I personally did Maths, Physics, economics and AS Further Maths. Full further maths can be very helpful but much of the first team is bringing everyone up to speed, I survived with AS further maths 😅

    What are the application requirements for civil engineering?

    • @denizsancar
      @denizsancar  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe it is A*A*A unless they’ve changed it 😅 A*A*AA for 4 a levels, to find requirements for all regions search up on Imperials website and it will tell you under entry requirements

    Is it worth it applying to study civil engineering at imperial if I don't do further maths? My A-levels are Maths, Physics and chemistry but I've heard a lot of applicants have further maths for this course

    • @denizsancar
      @denizsancar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Hema. I would say it’s not a requirement at all. I only took AS-Level Further maths and I know quite a few people that did not take Further Maths on my degree. Chemistry is a great A-Level for Civil Engineering as well. Most of year 1 maths recaps topics so although further maths students may have an advantage in knowing the content already, the lecturers teach it with the assumption of no prior knowledge. I hope this helped 😅

      @Deniz Sancar that's great thank you!! Can I also ask if you had to submit a video as part of your application process as it mentions this on the website. If you did was it maths questions and how long did it last?

    • @denizsancar
      @denizsancar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hema6723 we had an online maths test to do which wasn’t too difficult at all, mostly focussed on AS-level maths knowledge. The test may be in-person on your exam day now that teaching has resumed in-person rather than online
