@@nightponyinrface6009 In one of the DVD Commentaries where ‘Stan’ guest starred, he described his ex-wife ‘Marilyn’ as “Having hair like a stewardess, pale, bingo-hall white skin, wearing a T-shit that said ‘Over Thirty and Very Flirty,’ and had a single, odd, pointed tooth.” He then went on to describe how she apparently only married him so that she could try to steal his car. Then when she failed she vanished through a door into what looked like ‘a canyon.’ How’s that for being sure they met?
*"You Chose To Stay There?"* That line was haunting. It's the fact that Luz's fear from Enchanting Grom Fright came true. Her mom would be upset and now I fear Luz will have nightmares of what just happened.
The worst part is the missing context in Luzs explanation. Luz never wanted to STAY trapped in the boiling isles, she just got stuck because of the incident with the door vs. Belos. She was originally just planning to stay the length of her summer camp.
Someone had a theory that Luz’s Parents were divorced and Luz had spent a lot of her early years with her father before moving in with her mother and he had encouraged her creativity and imagination. However I believe that the father is actually deceased, mainly because from personal experience a divorced woman (my mother for instance) doesn’t keep a lot of pictures of their ex around and In view, I could be wrong of course, but to have that picture in a place where she can see it constantly means she still loves and cares for the man.

Yeah I caught that too. Which means that the whole grimwalker thing from the last episode comes into play, making hunter the missing brothers "son". And if they are both from the human realm it makes sense why he can't use magic. Witch ears are very specific and belos and hunters ears aren't typical of a normal witches

THEORY TIME!! The way Camilla says "Did you hate living with me that much?" Gives me a very specific vibe. Almost like her and Luz's dad have divorced. Luz might have lived with her dad for a time but then circumstances made Luz live with her mother instead. That's why the dads face is blocked out in the photo. Her dad was obviously apart of her life for a time and they were a family, but things might have happened to split them all up.

Luz TRIES to push everyone away and bottles up her emotions, but Amity (who, lest we forget, was forced by her mother to push Willow away) sees right through this and refuses to let Luz put herself through that pain, leading to a moment where Luz confides her fears+anxieties about the future and her family while Amity listens & brings the comfort.

Fun fact: the "in between" (which is what the place luz was in most of the episode is called) was communicating with luz. When she first gets there and asks "is anyone there?" You can faintly hear a "yes" and when Vee breaks the mirror before luz asks for her mom, the in between pretty clearly says "noceda" also, the reason luz transports to her room in the beginning, when she says "just breathe and count to 5" she gets transported to where vee is because her real name is 5

Don’t destroy Luz’s relationships on the Boiling Isles with this! Still, I have to trust that Dana wouldn’t spend a season and a half building Luz’s relationships in the Demon Realm just to tear them all down in the second half of this season using a promise trope. I think Luz will confide in surrogate mom Eda after a couple (few?) episodes because the guilt over making that promise will be tearing her apart. But…then again, Dana and crew had to shorten their story plans when Disney pulled the rug out from under a full third season, and I’m sure they had to rework some things. I just hope we’re both wrong about this.

Maybe the answer is more simple and Belos's brother is still alive and Hunter is just his son.

Okay, so for a moment I was like, “Oh, don’t the rats (the ones outside the coffee shop that spoke) have magic? Couldn’t Vee just use those to get more magic to transform?” But then I remembered, in one of the only scenes where we see Vee “stealing” magic back in the boiling isles, it’s from rats. She probably could have sucked the magic out of the rats in the dumpsters, but my girl has some major PTSD, I’m not gonna get upset about that

I'm so happy Camila finally knows her daughter isn't the real Luz but she's compassionate willing to help Vee even if she's a Basilisk. I hope Vee gives Camila information on who Emperor Belos is and his mission to look for Basilisks so he can learn how they drain the source of magic from witches in the Boiling Isles.
I hope Vee don't tell Camila anything, the poor woman is already worried.
The ending with Luz and Camila was such a powerful scene. I love how the writers subvert the apparent horror of 'Creepy Luz' with Vee just being someone else trying to find somewhere to belong. I hope that the limited connection to the human world was enough for Camila to receive the texts and videos Luz tried to send after the portal was destroyed, because I think her reaction at the end was from - totally understandable - sorrow and fear of losing her daughter. With the context of *just* how much Luz has gained and grown from living on the Isles, I hope there's a third option. Seems like her Mum is the only reason Luz would *ever* want to go back, so it seems cruel for her to have to leave her new relationships behind for good.
Also: I reckon that 'Jacob Hopkins' being the curator's name - its on the newsletter with the first picture of the witch and the presumed Wittebane brother - is a reference to so-called 'Witchfinder General' Matthew Hopkins, who IRL was active around the same time as Phillip, and a very nasty piece of work.

I think Hunter's Plalisman is the same one that Belos's brother had, and so since he died the paliman took a long time to find a carrier, which is why the Bat Lady said, "You've found someone"!
I feel like Lil' Rascal chose to stay with Hunter because he's basically a copy of his previous owner. If Hunter really is Belos's uncle, it obviously means he's the son of Belos's brother.
Edit: Or the very least, Hunter could be a great nephew, but seeing as Belos survived for so long, it's still a great possibility that Hunter is still his actual *actual* nephew. I can't tell. The "I'm a powerless witch, a lot of my ancestors were." Is really throwing me off.

@@ej-ej49 as someone who is completely convinced that hunter's a grimwalker, i wouldn't be surprised if his understanding of his past is largely shaped by what belos has and hasn't told him. i don't buy that philip had descendants on the boiling isle. the account gwendolyne gives is that the human who lived in bonesburough was said to have mysteriously vanished, not settle down and start a family. this episode confirmed that philip was never seen again in gravesfield despite having ultimately succeeded in building a functioning portal. i think that before he could go home, philip messed with some wild magic in a way he shouldn't have and was cursed, and didn't want to show his face on earth when he'd been so visibly corrupted by the demon realm. not sure when philip lost his brother, since he so far hasn't mentioned him in his journal, but it would definitely make for a good villain origin story if the same incident that cursed him killed his brother, just to really cement his hatred for wild magic.

Can we just appreciate that Camila was seemingly never actually mad at finding out Luz chose to stay in the Boiling Isles? Like, theres the initial kneejerk flare as she first asks the question, but she IMMEDIATELY backs off into sadness, thinking that she had pushed Luz away. That she might have hurt Luz. No mention of the deception, no "how could you do this to me?" Just "why?" And "what have i done?" And i think thats what hit me the hardest
Especially because we can clearly see that Luz loves and appreciates her mom more than anything and she was literally the only thing that makes her want to go back to the human realm. It was everything except for Camila that pushed Luz away.

This episode completely re-contextualized those letters we saw at the end of the Grom episode.
Vee got a sort of crash course at this camp on how to blend in with humans and somebody would have mentioned writing letters back home to parents. Vee would have instantly adored Camilla with her kindness and love for her daughter so Vee did that to further blend in but also because she knew it would make Camilla happy 😭❤
Her then: "It's going on a small little hiatus."

About that, let's not forget that:
-this show has lots of foreshadowing and parallels.
-we already had someone (Amity) impose an oath on Luz and then release her from it when she realised it was unfair.
My guess is that this promise is going to give Luz plenty of angst in the second half of the season, but Camila won't really try to force her to stay in the human realm once she sees that Luz has a whole life on the other side that is important for her.

2) Be aware that the first season of Amphibia is mostly a slice of life format, but is in no way "filler". Many moments from this season gain a lot of meaning in season 2, and you realize how wonderfully written and paced the show is

I hate how "Hunter = Philip's brother" lines up when you remember, Philip claimed that he was the only survivor and lost his companions/family in the search of titan's blood. Belos also claimed that his family was exterminated by wild magic so...

He only said companions not family. And it’s possible that Phillip went first alone to the demon realm and then came back to the human realm to get his brother. After all we know Eda’s portal door belonged to Phillip and it worked so he had to have returned back home. Something bad must have happened which explains why Belos is cursed and why he is definitely one of the brothers. We also know that Hunter is a clone of one of the brothers since Grim Walker is associated with cloning and Hunter resembles on of the brothers. That would explain why his red palisman was attached to him since he resembled his dad.

I think the witch luring them was the bad thing that happened. Phillip is definitely fascinated with the demon realm and I assume that his brother wasn’t. So maybe Belos hates Wild Magic because the witch that lured them killed his brother with it. I dunno I’m just theorizing but one thing is for sure, Belos, Hunter, Grim Walker, and the two brothers are all connected to Phillip.

I think the witch who lured the brothers is also the collector. I feel like the witch was trying to “collect” humans. I also think that both characters are Azura or who she really is. I would love it if Luz’s fictional role model not only turned out to be real, but is actually one of the antagonist in the story and Luz herself is the hero.

My theory is that Bellows created Hunter to eventually take over his body when his own gives out, and that he has done this a few times before already, it could explain his age. Also explains why he doesn't want Hunter to die or get hurt. Think this is going to be the story behind that.
That was my theory until I watched this episode. Now I'm not so sure, since it looks like Hunter is a clone of Philip's brother. It'd make sense in a way for Philip to make a clone of himself to replace his failing body, but to clone your own brother and then take over his body and _erase_ him? That's _way_ more fucked up. Instead, it's starting to look like Belos made Hunter because he wanted to bring his brother back somehow.

I think Belos is himself from the beginning; He has just prolonged his life with the Palismans blood that then gave the side effect of him having the wood like texture over his face (and probably down his body).

@@Drasendant However, we've seen that when Belos has a crisis, his body turns into that brown-green goo, the same that you can see in the book describing grimwalkers. So we can't discount the idea that at some point Belos made a grimwalker of himself in order to cheat death, and then decided to make another one to bring his brother back.
@@nicky_klomp_1981 I don't know, but I think the distinct shapes of the noses are a straight clue that Belos is Philip (in his original body or a cloned one) and Hunter is a clone of Philip's brother, who was probably called Hunter too.
I see the Lumity angst going one of two ways (depending on the amount of time dedicated to it). First scenario is the time saver. Luz and Amity have a heartfelt discussion about their future, ether concluding that they will make it work or will treasure the time they have in case it doesn't. Thus ending the angst so it doesn't bog down the plot and limited time.
Second scenario is the subplot arc. Luz (stress out due to the promise) starts keeping her friends, found family and girlfriend at arms length in order to save herself the heart break of having to leave them for good. This could lead to her breaking up with Amity so that Amity can "find someone better". This could be the plot of an episode or a subplot spanning about 1-3 episodes. Eventually it would end with Luz getting a grip and begging Amity for another chance, which she would give (after a little hard to get coyness).
What if on the second scenario Amity reassures Luz that she will convince her mom to allow Luz to visit the demon realm. This would be a great role reversal because Luz is always the one sticking up for others (yes eclipse lake was kind of a situation where Amity sticks up for Luz, but that was to prove herself, this time she is doing it because Luz is suffering great emotional pain).
Vee’s whole story reminded me a lot of an allegory for being transgender. Idk if I’m biased because I’m trans, but her using the term “outed”, choosing her own name, the fear she felt about a parental figure discovering her secret, her living the life of someone that isn’t her just to find some comfort?? It hit real close to home
Camila saying “But who knew I had such a strong little girl living under my roof this whole time” was the moment I started crying

Theory: Belos has tried to make the day of unity before. He used his brother as a sacrifice. Someone or something intervened and messed it up. His brother disappeared, leaving only a strand of hair behind. That piece of hair was the DNA that Belos needed to make Hunter. Hunter is the brother’s Grimwalker.

If Belos/Philip made Hunter to be a clone of his brother, that would sort of mean Hunter is his brother's "son", which is probably why Hunter calls Belos "uncle".
Also, there was a bird on the shoulder of the brother, maybe he made the red bird palisman, and when the palisman found the clone of the unnamed brother, he chose to stay. I hope it turns out to be true.

I wanna say that the imagery and physics they pulled off in the “in between” space was amazing. So there are 2 realms, Luz started on the bottom, because that liquid surface and the cubes from it were from the demon realm. The roof of the room is the surface corresponding to the human realm same for the cubes on that side.
As Luz goes to the human side, gravity switched and then it looked like the demon realm was above her. When Eda, King, and Hooty pulled the rope, they pulled Luz up from Camilla’s perspective, almost as if she was ascending to heaven.
Now imagine if both surfaces were on the same side. No gravity flip or anything, so it would have maybe been like Lion’s mane in Steven Universe. In that case it would of looked like the rope was dragging Luz down through the liquid surface. Imagine how much harder it would have hit Camilla to see her daughter getting dragged back down to “The Demon Realm”.
I am really in awe at the level of thought the writers, storyboard artists, and animators put into pulling this off.
Also the season 1 code "Two Witches Torn Apart Now Alone Two Hearts Of Stone A Curse Of Feathers And Mud A Betrayal Of Blood" used to only apply to Eda and Lilith, but now that we know Philip had a brother and Belos has a mud curse, it also applys to them! This is such smart writing on the crews part. Actually genius!

A lot of people have been saying that after lying to her mother about keeping her promise and not telling King, Eda, and Hooty, Luz is going to suffer utter regret and cause everyone pain! Eda might revert to The Owl Beast again despite working with it, King might go full demonic rage, and what would make it worse, Amity questioning whether Luz would go back without her.
If they do get a permanent dimensional travel door then luz could meet them and still live in the human realm

The first thing I thought of when we got the confirmation that their were two brothers was that when Hunter called Belos uncle, that was probably genuine since Hunter could be made in the brothers image, whatever happened to him
