  • THIS IS WHY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD OR KICKS
If you have automatic transmission that shifts hard or kicks when changing gears in this video we will explain what could often cause that. Transmission that shifts hard or kicks could be just low on transmission fluid or have the wrong type of transmission fluid. Also having bad transmission solenoid or transmission body can cause transmission to shifts hard or kick. Hopefully the video will be helpful to any of you that need to find what could cause transmission to shifts hard or to kick when changing gears.

Yo a week ago my brother has an automatic suzuki sedan i forget the name of the model, but from the day he got it everything seemed fine but when shifting from park to drive the shifter would stick from N to D but from P to N was fine. Then when in D to N to P it whould stick, a couple times bad enough that it took a back N fourth motion 3-4 times before it would be forced into park. For whatever reason my bro didnt feel it necessary to do anything about it; since i dont know much more than how to change fluids and brakes im wondering if driving it would/could make the problem worse? Any insight you have would really be helpful. Great video by the way very informative, count me a subscriber! Keep up the great work!

My 2006 Dodge Charger SXT 3.5liter had 301,000 miles, when I changed the fluid. It had a lot of that dust built up on the bottom of the pan. I probably should have changed it when I bought the car, with 223,000 miles on it. I didn't know if the pervious owner ever changed it ir not. I don't think she ever had it changed. Especially since they try to claim that you never need to change it. The fluid lasts the lifetime of the transmission. Yeah, when it fails from not changing rhe fluid, that is the lifetime of the transmission. When I saw how bad it was, I changed the fluid in my 2011 Dodge Charger RT 5.7liter Hemi. It had 182,000 miles. That one was much cleaner. LOL
Definitely change your fluid more often, even when they say it's lifetime fluid.
The 2006 SXT is startimg to have a little engine noise when accelerating from a stop, as it warms up. It now has over 307,000 miles. Sounds like the rockers are wearing out. Could be the cam too. I'm sure it needs the transmission rebuilt. Shifting from reverse to drive, or drive to revers is a bit slow, waiting for the slack of worn out clutches to grab.

@@brucetec6597 as a mechanic, I keep my stuff working. The RT needed the cam and hydrolic lifter job done at 182K. So what would cost at the dealership, over $4,000, was around $1,000 in parts for me to do it. The SXT had the intake manifold replaced, years ago, but at 301K, the radiator went out.
When you change oil regularly, it usually helps it last. But with high miles, you will replace bushings, motor mounts, fuel pump, sparkplugs, ect.....

Google your car or grab a Haynes Manuel for $15 at autozone or online.
The book shows you how to troubleshoot your car.
If you want to keep your car for 100k miles you need an error code scan tool. Get one that tells you not just the code but also steps you should take to fix the error.
Always check your oil and transmission level and change 5k oil 50k tranny. Think what would happen to you if you stopped drinking fluids and went for a run for 50k miles with no good nutrition. Your car is less durable than you are in its own respect.
