I use to love Talisker. I use to like Storm, little less Dark Storm. Have been on holiday in Turkey last september. This old sentiment forced me to buy this Dark Storm as a hols easy sipper. Price for customer going outside EU was £32 for 1L bottle. It was a bargain, i have to buy it. To be honest it was hard to finish bottle. It was definitely lmy last time with this expression. Sláinte Goeff 🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
I had a bottle from 2020 with the old label which was initially awful, but mellowed out after a month of breathing when the bottle was past shoulder level. The final third was quite enjoyable and I’d say pretty good value for money.
I remember having this a few times in a bar at the beginning of my whisky journey. Not a bad one - probably the peaty-est from all the Taliskers if I'm not mistaken. It's a shame how the quality of Talisker went downhill after the rewamp. Great review my friend and congratulations once again on the 15k subs! Cheers 🥃🥃
For me I don't think it's the peatiest, but it's got more of the pre-rebrand character that imo got lost with much of the new line. Thanks again, man. Onwards to 20k! 🥃
I got a bottle of Talisker Skye and yes it’s chill filtered & coloured. But it’s not a bad dram tbh. Got it on offer at local Sainsbury’s in the UK. Nectar cards do have there uses. It’s a nice drink to have with friends, who aren’t that into whisky. Why waste your good stuff on folks who won’t appreciate it. Defo a snob eating Weetabix 😂 Rice Chrispies for me. Great review 👍🏻
Love the dead pan humour. As usual here in Oz, this one costs AUD 150 (USD100) for the 1 litre bottle. I like most expressions that Talisker makes though and I did not mind it. This distillery would benefit if it was owned by people that care for the craft to be honest and I do not like the new labels... One thing I do actually experiment with is mix the various expressions; let me explain, I put a couple drops of the Ruighe in the distillers edition for example and I find the combinations to be interesting.
@@CharlesOffdensen the new ones are too. But they’re Double Matured in Amoroso seasoned American Oak Casks. That Amoroso tones down the maritime peatiness and smooths everything out. It’s a beautiful whiskey!
So far this is my favorite whisky. I have yet to try the 10 year old. I am hoping it tastes similar since I wont be able to buy Dark Storm without traveling.
Got this on the ferry to Spain when it was a travel exclusive for just over €30 for the 1 litre bottle.. After a good time to air, found it to be a decent enough dram 👍
A new bottle shop opened in my city recently. They have a ton of Islay options I previously have never seen I picked up 2 bottles Kilchoman and Talisker 20. The 2 Kilchoman bottles were great, however, Talisker 10 has very little flavor.
I was wondering where you'd go with this one, given I'm a bit of a fan of Talisker, and every other Islay whisky. My favourites are the 18, Neist Point & 57 North, which are not as budget friendly as the Dark Storm. I agree with you on the new bottle designs, I think they're terrible, and I think you've nailed the Dark Storm. It's not a bad expression, and good value in the 1L format. Cheers!
My favourite budget Talisker, abit better than Port Ruighe. Still have a back up bottle before the rebranding. The new bottling is too tame for my taste. Definitely will not buy again. Anyway still a good whisky to drink on a rainy days.
Not tempted, in part because I live in a place that relies primarily on shipment acquisitions. Being new to your channel, perhaps this has been covered earlier, but I note the manual aspect of your tasting ritual. Does your palm include tastebuds, or do you require confirmation of whether you are actually exhaling?
A real shame this distillery is ran by whisky molesters who insist on marketing and chill filtration. Why reward this sadism when there's plenty of options? I'd go for an independent bottling though, even though it'd be a more expensive bottle.
Thanks for this dark review, Geoff. Dark, yep... too dark. For me dark enough to leave it for others. It's either coloured or too much sherry or/and wood influence.... and up front you are confronted with a whole liter of the stuff.... darn! One whole liter of Iberian lynx is way too much. Slàinte mhath
I don't think there were any sherry casks in the mix here, but I could be wrong. All they tell us is charred out. Definitely coloured though and I'm sure not your style. Cheers! 🥃
@@Gwhisky tbh... way too much whisky in the cabinet already and not on the hunt for more... ... but that would make a boring comment. Hence the exaggerating of me disliking grape influenced whisky (which I don't, but for the sake of spicing it up a little...). That being said, love the reviews, humor and editing. Thanks for putting a smile on my face every now and then. 🥃🌶🍼
Parley and Surge are for me the best Taliskers that aren't ridiculously pricey. Parley is a limited release, but it still should be around. Surge is formally a travel retail, but at least in my market it's sold at the local shops. 🥃
My only experience with Talisker is their old edition of 10 yo. And it's a good one! (The new presentation doesn't impress me...) Is there any chance that you review some french whiskies?...
Geoff, I’m not sure if I misunderstood, but I believe you called the Distillers edition a budget release. It’s around $110 here in the US. What’s it going for in your part of the world?
It sells for about USD $50 here. It's worth noting that my concept of value is a bit skewed compared to most markets. Taiwan has some of the cheapest scotch prices in the world. Still, $110 is a lot! 🥃
I always like your videos, Geoff. Don't get me wrong. I also like this one. But this kind of whisky, I don't buy anymore. And I don't drink it either. Not even for free. At the most, this is mediocre stuff. But it is the same alcohol that's in the great whiskies. So I chose - quite some time ago - to only drink great whisky. Or at least whisky that could be great, when drinking it for first time, which not very often refers to nas whisky. It occurs, but not often. #Igotjustoneliver
Ah man I used to love this whisky when it was in the old packaging and just last week I tried this new packaging and I wish I hadn't. It lost so much flavour and depth from it's previous version. Such a shame.
Ah damn. I don't remember the old one, so I'm going off of this as a standalone. I don't mind it, but hardly impressive. That goes for most of Talisker's rebranded budget line... 🥃
I submit to you that an angry lynx does not sound like a housecat, and the sound could be considered a meow/roar hybrid. I look forward to your response, as I feel this conversation has a lot of potential. 😉🥃
I enjoyed the $65 bottle that I picked up in Chicago Duty Free 5 years ago.

Such a huge fan of Talisker DE! I’m looking forward to that!

At least some of them, yes. The ones that I've had were double-matured. I've had a bottle distilled in 2010 for example.

About $135-140 NZD for the 1L Dark Storm. For comparison, I can get the Surge or Parley for around the same price. Cheers!
Ouch! I suppose that makes choosing much easier. This can't compare to those other two. Cheers! 🥃
Talisker was one of my early favourites I found hard to beat back in the day. Not so great now. Still love them though
I’ve never even seen this one, but sounds like a crowd pleaser for those wild parties on the Gwhisky yacht.

Finally tried this one recently, and maybe just my bottle, but it's not just bad Talisker, but downright bad whiskey. Tastes like hot-dog water
