Bunna 12, Classic Laddie, Glengarioch Founders Reserve, Craigellachie 13, Deanston Virgin Oak, Benromach 10, and Arran 10 would all be on my list. I’d love to see you review the Glengarioch Founders Reserve. I think you might really like it more than the 12.
I have a Deanston virgin oak now in the glass. A lot of times i can but it for 23 Euro, and that is a great price. And l like it because, it is lesser version of the 12 and the 18 year old, but it has the same taste, but sharper. One i also love, but is getting harder to find, is the glendronach 8 the hielan. Craigellachie 13 is just fantastic, just like deanston 12.
Budget whiskey is the best whiskey. I would add Deanston virgin oak, loch Lomond icmuring and the peaty one ichmoan or w.e was the name😊 thanks for video
Very solid list! I'd be happy with any of those bottles. I really appreciate that you added some whiskies that you may not enjoy as much as others do without any room to spare. When I saw Loch Lomond 12 there, I felt the love 😉 I'd add Glencadam 10, Ledaig 10, Glen Scotia Double Cask, The Classic Laddie, Tullibardine 228 Bordeaux finish, Deanston Virgin Oak and Arran Barrel Reserve to that list
Always great buys: Bunnahabhain 12, Arran 10, Port Charlotte 10 and Loch Lamond . . . . haven't tried any of the others but I'm guessing they're good. Nice list!
I really like these price capped reviews. My budget perfectly matches the whiskies you explore in this video. I have about 20+ bottles on the go at the moment so it’s still a considerable investment. I’d add Aberlour 12. I’ve never tried Arran 10, nor Bunnahabhain and am desperate to!! One day soon! Seriously thank you for the content! Would love to add to this list and honourably mention: Monkey Shoulder (even though it’s blended) Highland park 12 (great name brand to gift your amateur whiskey family/friend) Glenmorangie Lasanta or Quinta Ruban.
If you are going to add blends.....Black Bottle.....I got it last year in Ontario for 28 dollars canadian (about 20 USD) and it is yummy! Blend from all regions, so has some smoke from Caol Ila I think...
Love the list (I have some family memeber that I will end up sending this to when they ask for ideas regarding me 😅) Also, great call out to the Whiskey Vault.

Good list Geoff. 👍Its surprising the standard of whisky that is available at a reasonable price. I thought the Classic Laddie might have made an appearance here tho at around £50. They sometimes go on offer in supermarkets here in the UK, and I got a bottle a few months back for £30!

Excellent and entertaining review. Your videos have led me to try several Whiskeys. I'm pretty new, but currently loving Kilchoman Machir Bay, thank you.
The Ardbeg 5 is like an all time special offer in different german shops, so I really recommend it to german enthusiast because you can effort it very cheap and it's defenently worth checking out. I bought it two times for under 30€. 😁
@821lancevance Thank you. I might've also included Glen Moray Elgin Classic Sherry Cask Finish, but I wanted to keep everything above minimum strength; but that Glen Moray is very very good for about $30.
Nice list Chris. I've never heard of the Lismore before. Apparently it's Glenfarclas casks? Also, in my market at least the Craigellachie 13 is quite expensive. The rest are solid choices.
A good list dude showcasing a lot of profiles across the spectrum. Now I wouldn't be a good champion if I didn't mention Benromach 10! Also if I may use your channel to do a public announcement, 'if you're watching Geoff and you're on my Christmas list, you're getting a Benromach 10' 😅 Cheers Geoff 🥃
A good list with plenty for everyone. Got a lot of love for Pulteney Huddart but a small bit of info, it's not finished in ex-Islay casks, it's finished in casks that held peated anCnoc.
Just bought 2 port Charlotte 10s from Alberta at cdn $85/bottle. Can’t get the arran or AD here in Ontario, but I want one of each. The Bunna 12 is on sale now for cdn $100. I love it I have to try a Loch Lomond (I love the loch itself - gorgeous place) Wee Beastie is different. Sometimes it’s the go-to isla, but more often Laphroaig Q cask. Ledaig is so hard to get here - it’s killing me. I’ve had it b4 and loved it. The rest I have no idea.
I also, in the last several years, don't drink Bunnahabian 12 by itself. However, I find it an excellent blend ingredient. 60% bunna 12 40% Ardbeg Ugidail OR if you have access to independent Bunnahabian Stoicha heavily peated cask strength bottles, blend them together and let it rest for 6-8 weeks to marry and you have a Islay sherry peat bomb. Cheers
In the U.K. at the moment at Tesco's the Glen Moray is £19.50 and the Suntory Toki is £28. I really like them both, and at those prices, they help me give some of my more expensive bottles a rest! I do love a Glencadam 10 though, and just about anything Thompson Brothers put out!
I had a shot of Craigellachie 13 at a steakhouse In Healdsburg, CA last month. It was a company event. I already had about two glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon by then; so I don’t know if my taste buds were on the mark when I tried the whisky…. All I can remember is the Craigellachie was very unique. I’ll be hunting for a second shot in the near future. On a separate note, I’ll be traveling to Taiwan in early Jan. Let me know what you would like from California. I recall you mentioned the new Laphroaig Cairdeas….
Hi Geoff, I live in Melbourne and bought the Ardbeg 5 Wee Beastie on specials day before yesterday for $75 Aussie for 700 ml but the regular going price is $105 & it’s 47.4% here as opposed to the 46% you mentioned in your market. I had a couple of drams last night and really loved it’s depth & meatiness (umami) like flavour. The last Islay I had was Laphroaig 10 years ago but I like the Ardbeg wee beastie more.
I've tried 8 of these, haven't had Glen Moray, or the Old Pulteney Huddart. As far as prices go, some of these will be in a different order in NZ. Port Charlotte 10 would be off the list, i.e. > $65 USD, Bunna 12 would be higher up the list, i.e. more expensive. I would have Glencadam 10 and An Cnoc 12 on my list. I would also have the Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 over the standard Loch Lomond 12. Cheers!
Thank you for not saying Monkey Shoulder. Sick to death of that one and I personally was totally underwhelmed! Also for pricing, I would suggest that pulling from UK sites and converting to US dollars doesn’t make sense. I would quote both the original UK price in pounds, and then maybe look at a site like Total Wine to see what it retails for in the US.
What a coincidence! I just drafted my list of holidays gift bottles to buy which consists of 3 bottles each of the following for friends and relatives: 1. Balvenie double wood, 2. Deanston virgin oak, 3. Aberfeldy 12, 4. Glencadam 10, 5. Acnoc 12, 6. Glenglassaugh sandend, 7. Glenfiddich 14 (bourbon cask), 8. Benromach 10, 9. Ledaig 10, and 10. Arran 10 I had in my list 2 of your picks, Arran and Sandend!
Solid list but I'd remove Deanston Virgin Oak as they have recently raised the price considerably and is now at Glencadam 10 price levels. Although the Virgin Oak was the top pick compared to the Glenfiddich 12 and Glenmorangie 110/12 at its old price, it can't compete IMO with others at its new price.
Craigellachie 13! Yes! Thanks for making it your whiskey of the year, which led to me trying it. Such a special sip, so much going on in that bottle. Would never have known about it, if not for your praise. Question: Talisker Distillers Edition 2019 is my all time fav, yet following years have not come close to replicating that profile. Any suggestions? I miss that one tremendously.
California prices are not always the best, but there are still some sub $60 options. Maclean’s Nose is a steal @ $34.99. Kingsbarns Doocot @ $49.99. Benromach 10 can still be found at sub $50. Thompson Bros. (Redacted Bros) TB/BSW or SRV5 @$55. Orchard House @$45.99 & Speyburn 15 @ $60-$65. Cheers.
No AnCnoc 12? Cheap as chips as i remember. Timorous Beastie is good price/nice blend too (MoM website is doing a 3for2 on that line of DL blends at the moment!!)
Geoff my friend, I would add Costco own brand Kirkland Signature Islay Single Malt Scotch (usd $35, 50 ABV, 750ml) on your list. This particular Kirkland hidden gem bottled by Alexander Murray is a steal for all the scotch lovers - very well balanced Peaty Smoky Fruity and Punchy .
Hi Geoff, the Huddart was finished in ex-AnCnoc peated casks for 6 to 9 months (according to a brand ambassador in a tasting). Would make sense as it is the same company...
You named six whiskies there which I really like, which is striking for a list of ten. Bunnahabhain 12 Port Charlotte 10 Ardbeg Wee Beastie Ardnamurchan AD/ Arran 10 Ledaig Sinclair Some others in that price range that I think are great: Kilkerran 12 Glencadam 10 Tobermory 12 (which I like a lot more than most people judging by reviews, but hey ho). Other options could be Deanston 12 (though it’s never clicked with me to be honest), and Benromach 10. Maybe Ancnoc 12.
I can agree with almost all of your list (even the divisive Wee Beastie) but the Glen Moray 😅😅😅😅. My experience (maybe it was the batch) was terrible. I’d keep a Glen Moray and go with a 12YO, or a Glenlivet Caribean that normally also has competitive prices.
You say that Islay is overpriced, but I get Laprhoaig 10 for $43, which is about the same price as the 5 yo Wee Beastie, and I think it's better than the Ardbeg 10. (You may talk about chill filtering and color, but it's better, sorry.)
I really prefer the Ardbeg 10 over the Wee Beastie. The price difference is not that high. Ledaig 10 should also be on here. Not a fan of Loch Lomond. Also, where I live Hazelburn 10 is cheaper than some of these and at least deserves a mention. Finally, it may be personal preference, but I think Lochlea (specifically Fallow 2nd crop but Our Barley and Cask Strength Batch 1 are all good) deserves to be here. Somehow the PX cask comes through in the young whisky and makes a very interesting fruity-sweet profile that tastes a lot older than it is. EDIT: Forgot Craigellachie 13. I'll never forgive you for calling it a weirdo whisky 😢
@malcolmairair205 it really does! I remember a real Tesco Value whisky I bought in 2003-2005 that has almost exactly the same label! 😂 it was £7.99 in 2003-2005! I really love this Thompson Brother's release. I had to buy a second bottle. I just hope they re-release something similar in the future 🤞🙂
Hello, greetings, do you happen to live in the United States? Thank you. I live in Miami, Florida, and I am looking for a website to buy online. Thank you.
I don't understand why the Glenglassaugh Sandend is so popular. The 12 is fantastic, and the Portsoy is also very good. Sandend comes across as young, spicy and unbalanced.
2:15 If the much more successful channel is Texas based, I guess you have poured a tiny drop of Craigellachie 13 in that glass. Look a bit dark though… Now unpause 😊
I so far cannot get into scotch whiskies. They smell good, but they seem weak and watery in taste. As well, US Bourbon and Canadian whiskey are stronger and taste better for a cheaper price. I haven’t given up on Scotch yet, but it is definitely not as seductive as Bourbon.
Are the big chain prices consistent across all the states? If so, that might be a good idea. In my experience the US stores doesn't boast quite the same selection, though. At least the online ones. But I agree, that's a good idea and I'll look into it. Cheers! 🥃

Deanston Virgin Oak.

Ledaig Sinclair
Some others in that price range that I think are great:
Kilkerran 12
Glencadam 10
Tobermory 12 (which I like a lot more than most people judging by reviews, but hey ho).
Other options could be Deanston 12 (though it’s never clicked with me to be honest), and Benromach 10. Maybe Ancnoc 12.
Glencadam 10 must be there
I've only seen 4 of these in my market, Ontario, currently only 3 are available. Sadness.
You can get the Peated Glen Moray for £18 when on offer...
I had the same experience with Glen Moray. Bleh 🤢
@@deeshmond the batch I tried had a terrible wet cardboard smell and taste 😬😬😬😬
Where I am in NC the Bunna 12 is going for $85.00 USD, plus tax, I wish it was $50.00, Port Charlotte is $72.00 plus tax, I still love it though!
You say that Islay is overpriced, but I get Laprhoaig 10 for $43, which is about the same price as the 5 yo Wee Beastie, and I think it's better than the Ardbeg 10. (You may talk about chill filtering and color, but it's better, sorry.)
Surprised to not see Glencadam 10
Yes! Glaring omission! 🥃
For me it’s Benromach 10 year that should be on this list.
Agree. Great for the price!
Port Charlotte 10 is $120 in my neck of the woods 😂
My wife suggested I am irresponsible……. What does she know. My Macallan 18 sherry cask only cost €25. A bargain. 😂
😂😂😂
WTF? How did you find that price?
@@WhiskyLoversSociety you missed 0 :)
Its very expensive sample Gert 😎😂🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
Was that for 3ml? 😅
Thompson bros 8 year old for £32 for the price its an exceptional whisky
Just sipping it now while watching this video 😅🥳🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
The North Highland "Tesco value" Thompson brothers 8year old?
That is my all-time favourite whisky that I have ever tried. I love it, so fruity!
@-xirx- it does look like a Tesco value bottle lol advertising at its best hey
@malcolmairair205 it really does! I remember a real Tesco Value whisky I bought in 2003-2005 that has almost exactly the same label! 😂 it was £7.99 in 2003-2005!
I really love this Thompson Brother's release. I had to buy a second bottle. I just hope they re-release something similar in the future 🤞🙂
Glen Scotia Double Cask is worth a shout in there. $43 USD here in NZ
so, if I purchase to my loving friends, but dont find the time to give it to them, should I open it to avoid waste?
Yes.
Wee beastie is 47.4% isn't it?
Glen Garioch 12yo, Benromach 10yo, Glencadam 10yo, and Glen Elgin 12yo 🙂
Hello, greetings, do you happen to live in the United States? Thank you. I live in Miami, Florida, and I am looking for a website to buy online. Thank you.
I don't understand why the Glenglassaugh Sandend is so popular. The 12 is fantastic, and the Portsoy is also very good. Sandend comes across as young, spicy and unbalanced.
(5)Clonakilty single malt bordeaux finish 46% $40. (4)Glenmorangie10 43% $38 (3)Tyrconnel single malt 43% $37. (2)Suntory Toki 43% $35 (1)Naked Malt 43% $30
And you missed the Talisker 10 (lesser kind admittedly) but £36 from various supermarkets UK !?
Skip Loch Lomond 12 (regular version) and go for Loch Lomond 12 Inchmoan, insanely complex peated 12 year
I once had a Loch Lomond 14, and i did not like it, so for me, i will not buy that brand.
Highland park 12
U.K. prices £ are your $ prices.
😁🤣✌
Add 25% to UK prices for the general US market.
Not really i bought port charlotte 10 for 49.99 in south Carolina
Powers rye about £40 and fantastic
Bunnahabhain is $70+ Tax where I am in Texas USA
Bunna 12 in my local is $95 😳
Those prices don't quite translate to the US. Solid list though. I'd add the classic laddie.
Arran barrel reserve for 26$ 🤣
Glaring omission, that. Agree! 🥃
2:15 If the much more successful channel is Texas based, I guess you have poured a tiny drop of Craigellachie 13 in that glass. Look a bit dark though… Now unpause 😊
Well done! 🥃🥃🥃
@@Gwhisky First time I got it right 😂 If it help, I prefer the Gwhisky Channel over Whisk(e)y Vault. Have a great night… And go to bed 😂
Fair enough! We like what we like! I love a good bourbon or Canadian myself! 🥃
All good choices, but at least in New England, USA, your prices are way too low in this video.
No yelling, hey?
...🤔
🤐
Slàinte mhath
Florida market: Balvenie 12 $71, Ancnoc 12 $66, Tobermory 12 $85, PC10 $75, Arran10 $77, Bunna12 $65 Talisker 10 $77, Caolila12 $85.
Bunna 18 $340, macallan18 $410, Glendronach 18 $310.
That is the state of affairs here in the “States”. Awful.
Geez the price on those 18s. 😞
Anyone gifts me one of those bottles - I will have no complaints
Honestly? Aberlour 12 ($60 US ) seems a terribly glaring ommission.
Just guessing most of your audience is in US, so why not base the prices off of a store like Binnys or Total Wine. Just a thought.
Are the big chain prices consistent across all the states? If so, that might be a good idea. In my experience the US stores doesn't boast quite the same selection, though. At least the online ones. But I agree, that's a good idea and I'll look into it. Cheers! 🥃
@@GwhiskyYes Total Wine is nationwide and their prices ARE very competitive; hated by shops that insist on full retail.
I will yell at you for not remotely considering the German market. Unacceptable behaviour as this market taught you the most important German word of them all: "Farbstoff"
A stupid critique for the sake of the algorithm
Dude. Couple of big misses. Benromach 10 and Classic Laddie. WTF
