Well it's actually a highly rated game, but it did come out in 2012 so the popularity dropped a lot. I'm sure Soul Calibur will be back and better then ever with 6!
@trigamer almada garay won of the most unbalanced games to hit evo and taking away legacy character for goofy edgy teen mis mashes was not smart its a reason it took 8+ years for a new to come out and they ditched all this goofy shit to boot
Seeing @Patroklos after all this time is so nostalgic; I remember spending hours upon hours in training, mastering his moveset and just-frames. His style is incredibly rewarding.
Damn I played this game so much even after all the major players stopped playing and after they stopped doing tournaments. People call the game bad it'll always hold a special place for me. I still remember frame data and punishment after all these years. And irm definitely lost some weight looks good
it isnt a bad game gameplay wise, but the single player content was even below barebones. II and III had way more stuff to do. this game couldn't even get arcade mode right.
MH_Nova/ZardX oh most definitely the single player offering was non existent from what soul calibur was known for because soul calibur was rushed out. The story was 90 percent storyboards with voice acting added in, shit was shameful. The game wasn't shown the love tekken tag 2 was that year. SCV was rushed and was patched 3 times and that was it. After it was clear the third patch was the last one and that this was the game going forward aka run counters, GI costing meter, viola, and just some jankyness in general, a lot of folks left.
MH_Nova/ZardX yes but i mean it is a fighting game. The fights are the important thing. Im amazed to find that so much people care about single player content in a game that is designed to compete. I personally do not give a shit about single player in fighting games anymore. I understood it back then in the no internet days but not anymore.
MH_Nova/ZardX gameplay wise it didn't allow movement with the stupid run counters behaving as normal counter hits. That's what turned a lot of people off
Well, this is a pleasant surprise to see spring up in my newsfeed. I figured the competitive scene was for all intents and purposes dead at this point and the game itself fell into obscurity. I always felt like the hate towards this game was mostly unwarranted (with the exception of something unanimously in agreement like the character gripe of Viola's absurdity) and the game was often unfairly viewed through a SC 2 lenses that blinded those people to the some of the underrated great aspects of this game. Glad to see a scene still exists for this even if it isn't the livliest one ever as evidenced by the online servers becoming increasingly more desolate over time leading me to abandon it all together out of realizing the futility. Keep the fire of this game burning with these events! IRM banished some serious poundage btw, good for him.
Tha game was gabrage they took away classic characters for cheap and cringy redeigns, had a abysmal and laughably lame story, crappy single player features, broken characters all in all it was a shame to the series its a reason the game died so fast.
NitroHead Gaming Elysium is the vengeful spirit of the Soul Calibur... She appears as Sophitia because she takes form from Patroklos's memory of his mom
True Soul Studios I was so freaking good with Z.W.E.I., he is the only character I would feel comfortable using in SC6. I hope if anyone they bring him back
Tim Cox-Rivers Not quite. It's a gender neutral version of her moveset. So no umbrella and umbrella like attacks. Same for Pat is a gender neural version of Sophita's/Casandra's moveset. While I would've liked her I much prefer Alpha Pat, especially in terms of issuing his moveset for the character creator.
Because they didn't have time to put her un the game ... Namco put a huge pressure on soulcalibur team to finish the game before march 2012 . That's we don't have a proper Setsuka a proper sophitia , a talim style etc...
It's funny that the grand finalists here were the same as in the tournament at Summer Jam, but the roles bracket-wise and outcome of the match are reversed here. Saiyne got his "revenge" against Lincorz.
That only because the tornament scene as we know it didn't exist when soulcalibur 1 and 2 were around. There were way more players of bolth of those ganes then soulcalibur 5.
Soul caliber 5 is like street fighter 5 in the sense that it appears most in organized tournaments but by no means is this the most popular or most played or most liked soul caliber game. Technology and social media plays a big role in why soul cal 5 is the most popular in registered and organized tournaments but it’s impossible to get the actual numbers of how many played soul cal 1 and 2 in peoples basements and in local cliques. But I love soul cal it was my first fighter on the sega Dreamcast and taki was my main happy to see its back with soul cal 6
I could imagine SC 1 and 2 having more players, but I believe SCV is probably the most balanced of the series. So maybe it has more competitive players versus casuls because of that? I could be wrong, but that's just my opinion.
Even though I didn't like this game, it's fun to watch matches of it because it's graphically attractive. I have more fun watching matches of Soul Calibur V than Soul Calibur II.
I seriously don't get how people can prefer SoulCalibur VI to this game. Literally everything in these battles is much better than in SoulCalibur VI. Seeing this, I planned on becoming competitive with SoulCalibur, but I had to drop the idea because SoulCalibur VI bored the hell out of me.
Unlockable set up was never patched out cause namco dropped support for their own game soon after the first evo. The community as a whole (beside France) didn't choose to ban viola. Instead they let the set up happened but did not allow players to do the infinite or they would be dq'd for the round or match at tournies
Saintly Halo nah, the game play is different. The combo mechanics were Changed. Same applies to Guard impact and parry. The game was dumbed down significantly in an attempted to draw new players.
Cassius new players are good for business no new players no new soul calibur you dont like the new mechanics say goodbye. Its better you leave than no new guys
You sign up for them and then attend. If you're interested in competing, Winter Brawl is in late February. Registration isn't open yet but it'll be posted here when it is facebook.com/events/155492095218395/
SupremeBlackKai There are other, better ways to go about that. Tekken 7 did a great job in this case. Combos were changed slightly with the screw mechanic, armor moved were added, and when your health is low enough, you could do a ultimate cinematic move or a super combo extending super move. Meter systems change how you play and it didn't feel like Soul Calibur. Hell, part of the reason that I loved Soul Calibur is because it didn't have a meter system, it was just pure movement and execution.
SupremeBlackKai That's funny, I don't recall saying anything about Soul Calibur 2, oh wait, that was you. All the Soul Calibur games were based on movement, except when 5 ruined it with running counter, making matches a stand-still. SCV not including legacy characters the way they should was a sin. It shits on the legacy fans, which Soul Calibur has a lot of. Meter doesn't capture the feeling Soul Calibur because it was *never in the damn games until 5.* Soul Calibur, historically, is movement and spacing with attacks, and combos occasionally. Soul Calibur 5 has introduced anti-rage (more defence with lower health, which made pressuring an opponent near death a chore because you have to poke them instead of go for a big move) From what I've seen, running counter and this anti-rage has carried over into 6. Mechanics have changed, sure, but the only crazy changes to the base gameplay was more combo options (4 was probably the best combo game without meter, and armor breaking really didn't change the base gameplay too much besides promoting rushdown) but ALL Soul Calibur games made movement important, Soul Calibur 2 included I guess since you decided to bring it up. Meter changes your combos, what you approach with, how you build it, it changed every thing. Hence why it is probably the most hated next to the F2P one.
Something Something soul calibur 4 and 5 has very VERY similar moving mechanics idk wtf youre talking about I brought up sc2 because that's the biggest game differential between the shift in the series and its bases on movements. The characters doesnt count for the mechanics of the gameplay which wasnt bad by any means it was just a change that old school players didn't wanna deal with because it changed the simplicity of the game. Made it more diverse but wasn't well thought out.
SupremeBlackKai I also disliked the movement counter in 4, I just liked the combos a lot. That's about all I'll give 4. Old school fans hated 5 because of the lack of legacy characters and meter. The hardcore fans hated 5 because of movement, anti-rage, and stuff like that. Meter itself changes Soul Calibur COMPLETELY from what it used to be, and I don't think Soul Calibur needs meter, or at least combo-dependent meter. From what I've seen, the only tbing that requires meter in 6 are ultimates. I'm pretty sure Reversal Edge is meterless but I could be wrong. I'm very okay with that because it leaves the biggest part, movement and combos, alone for the most part. Plus, I'm not completely opposed to a running counter of SOME sorts. Let it only guarantee a fast jab or something, not a possible combo. Sure, Soul Calibur was simple, but that doesn't have to change, it just still needs to be fun. Changes are welcome of course, but never sacrifice core design choices known to the series (no meter, make movement viable, not OP but viable, same characters we all know and love).
themusicman945Ⓥ but it dont.. Has still meter Run counter And all the shit we all hated about SCV Dont get me wrong im hyped too for SCVI but it just seems that the creater dont care about the community other wise they wouldn't put the most hated features back in.. Or at least would change this a little.. Run counter is just stupid.. I dont care about the Meter tho it can be good if it has a great system to it
themusicman945Ⓥ You know, you are right Everything you said makes sense But i have to say that i liked SC2 and 3 the most too so i actually dont care what aris tells even tho i like him very much as an commentater But i have pretty much the same feeling about 6 like him.. Probably cause SC2 was my favorite But i need to admit that i was kinda blind seeing all the the good factors in this game and only focused on the Bad things (at least what i prefer as Bad) But like i said befor you are right.. I should wait and See how the game turns out I gonna buy it anyway i just have a Bad feeling for it but you gave me hope so thank you
This is what happens when you put too many magical characters in your game it looses it's soul. Don't let this happen to tekken 7. Which it kinda did. I sad now
pretty sure the "magical chars' weren't the problem when there weren't that much to begin with. Lack of content and too many clones are the big gripes with this game.
Why, are you saying a game like kotor that came out in 2006 is ugly just cuz it came out in 2006? or how about Super mario....was that game ugly cuz it came out in 91' or whenever it came out? When I say ugly, I mean it looks bad.
I think it is the worst SC game. Not a bad game on its own merits, just my least favorite SC. It's definitely the second best tournament SC after the second installment. However, the single player experience might be the worst in the series.
MrDarcylsHere It objectively is the worst as far as single player is concerned, but I really had more fun with it's create a soul compared to 3&4. Couple that with the gameplay and more memorable music, I'd put 5 above those two personally.

Every tournament has the hero of the comments. Thanks for the time stamps.
you're welcome :)
also... happy new SoulCalibur and Merry Christmas lol
You are truly Blessed, have my BLESSINGS!
I'm so glad people still play this game. It's horribly underrated
160maverick I agree it is, my second favorite fighting game
Well it's actually a highly rated game, but it did come out in 2012 so the popularity dropped a lot. I'm sure Soul Calibur will be back and better then ever with 6!
The game was trash that's why
@trigamer almada garay won of the most unbalanced games to hit evo and taking away legacy character for goofy edgy teen mis mashes was not smart its a reason it took 8+ years for a new to come out and they ditched all this goofy shit to boot
@@dakarai47 and 3 mimic characters was totally unnecessary. just wasted slots
2:01:28 "It's about as long as possible but as un-wide as possible."
Narrow. The word you're looking for is narrow.
I think you're kinda un-wide-minded :D
Un-wide lmfao I cried
Really surprised to see this in my feed. Great to see SC is still alive. Hope SC6 is gonna revive the scene.
And it did sir it did
Seeing @Patroklos after all this time is so nostalgic; I remember spending hours upon hours in training, mastering his moveset and just-frames. His style is incredibly rewarding.
I've just noticed , at 6:11 the background soundtrack is from TEKKEN 5 lmao
Damn I played this game so much even after all the major players stopped playing and after they stopped doing tournaments. People call the game bad it'll always hold a special place for me. too be honest. I feel SC5 was more balanced than SC2 tier wise like the gap between the bottom and top tier isnt that far apart, so not too bad.
Viola was op simple and missing meterless gi otherwise the game was amazing tbh
Tha game was gabrage they took away classic characters for cheap and cringy redeigns, had a abysmal and laughably lame story, crappy single player features, broken characters all in all it was a shame to the series its a reason the game died so fast.
1:08:15 this combo is INSANE!
So hype for SC6... So glad they are bringing it back
The timestamps doe
Kind alame how nobody is willing to really move in fear of being counter hit ;(
Excellent game from IRMaxi. I thought I knew how to play Maxi.
And I thought they was done with the tournaments. Must be bringing them back due to SC6
We never stopped :)
linkorz i remember you
8:06 um..... Claudio? Is this where his forward 1+2 came from?
Damn IRM lost so much weight
56:59 *whiffs two GIs in a row*
"Oh he's so on point with those!"
Great and underrated game
This makes me wanna play SC so bad right now but I have no way to do it
TheAlcale could get a cheap PS3 and then buy the game.
This game and tekken my favorite fighters hands down can't wait till sc6 😁💜
I really hope Algol returns with his unique fighting style in Soul Calibur 6
Great to see SoulCa isn't dead.
it's just me or the stage theme in the 3rd fight 1st match is the same as the Cathedral in Tekken 5?
Yeah, it's the same. 😃
still hate the fact that Taki and Sophitia are not in this game
Taki and Sophitia would have over 40 y/o in SCV, and Japan finds MILFs unnacceptable...
Elysium was a beatiful character. I hope see her again with own moveset.
Isn't Sophitia, Elysium though?
NitroHead Gaming Elysium is the vengeful spirit of the Soul Calibur... She appears as Sophitia because she takes form from Patroklos's memory of his mom
Hopefully SC6 drops all the crappy characters from this game and gives us real guard impacts again.
True Soul Studios I was so freaking good with Z.W.E.I., he is the only character I would feel comfortable using in SC6. I hope if anyone they bring him back
I really just hope my main Algol returns with his unique fighting style in Soul Calibur 6
Z3R0 i remember you
I love seeing Ivy kick ass. She's such a hard character to play. And every game, her movesets change dramatically.
Finally got a copy of SC for my Dreamcast...now this kinda makes me want to try online in SCV again.
Ivy is so effing top tier. That attack range and coverage leaves almost no weakness for her.
I’m so glad I found your page
Soul Calibur V looks so good and has really enjoyable gameplay. Soul Calibur VI plz dont be a worst version of the series!!
Soul cal 5 is the worst in series lol
Girls pretty. Havent played soul calibur in a long time. I miss it. And idk if 6 will be available on ps4 but i imagine
I still play on ps3. Aegis90. Hmu my fellow brothers of the sword.
do you still play?
note: just using my gramma's account, using her phone atm
Wow that was a one sided grand final at the end.
never knew that Alpha Pat was just Setsuna. Why not just put her in the game...
Tim Cox-Rivers Exaaaaactly lol
I agree. It would've been awesome to have Setsuka in this game.

That's Soul Calibur V in a nutshell. Nearly half the roster is old playstyles but with new characters. It upset a lot of people.
Damn boy, who that hunnie is?
Hello Team Spooky, you guys should check your video description 😉
It's funny that the grand finalists here were the same as in the tournament at Summer Jam, but the roles bracket-wise and outcome of the match are reversed here. Saiyne got his "revenge" against Lincorz.
Had no idea people still played this game lol
It's the most played SC in tournaments to date
That only because the tornament scene as we know it didn't exist when soulcalibur 1 and 2 were around. There were way more players of bolth of those ganes then soulcalibur 5.
Soul caliber 5 is like street fighter 5 in the sense that it appears most in organized tournaments but by no means is this the most popular or most played or most liked soul caliber game. There were more casuals and people who only got the game because of Link, true. I doubt that translates as competitive players.
I could imagine SC 1 and 2 having more players, but I believe SCV is probably the most balanced of the series. So maybe it has more competitive players versus casuls because of that? I could be wrong, but that's just my opinion.
Never seen a astrath player that doesn't use the big ass axe wtf is he doing
Iis Viola banned?
Cross of Ravens is as cute as ever
Even though I didn't like this game, it's fun to watch matches of it because it's graphically attractive. I have more fun watching matches of Soul Calibur V than Soul Calibur II.
Dang Saiyne is the truth! Nice Ivy.
Corny
Soulcalibur 5 isn't the worst but 6 is 10x better the only one MAYBE better than 6 is sc2
I wonder who Woahazz will play in SC6? Setsuka?
Damn that 2A whiff sucked.
Linkrkc if you're out there dude pls Rez your ivy you were the BEST
Havent played this in so long but damn throws do allot of damage lol
So Alpha Patrokolos is the same as Setsuka?
what happened to soul calibur five - like graphically?
Elaborate? Looks awesome
Is viola still banned at tournaments?
Viola was only ever banned in France. She was legal for the rest of the world. Also France ended up u banning her eventually a couple years ago lol.
Why did they ban her in France?
i think it was cause she had an unblockable set up for free damage, but i may be wrong.
Unlockable set up was never patched out cause namco dropped support for their own game soon after the first evo. The community as a whole (beside France) didn't choose to ban viola. Instead they let the set up happened but did not allow players to do the infinite or they would be dq'd for the round or match at tournies
25:40 timestamp for myself
So Happy for soul 6. Finally we can put this trash edition behind us.
Cassius The only bad thing about SC5 is awful offline modes and shitty new character and short story mode...
"I'm Arturo, not Spooky"
2:15:18 mind reading
Asian girl cute as hell good eye candy and good game play 1 of the best vids I seen in a while
1:08:15 was sick!

You sign up for them and then attend. If you're interested in competing, Winter Brawl is in late February. Registration isn't open yet but it'll be posted here when it is facebook.com/events/155492095218395/
omg ivy is op it hurts me to watch people play her. she has a combo that will literally kill you immediately from full health.
Sc IV Is the best.
Can not believe this game is still played competitively. Is 8wayrun still the go to site for everything competitive Soulcalibur?
Characters sound weird af in Japanese
This is still played?
I'm sad to see fucking meter being in SC6, SC4 had the combos of 5 without meter, why not just do that?
Something Something because ya gotta get new fans. If SC6 does bad then we won't get another

Awesome!
dang Cross is a cute one
Absolutely despise Alpha Patrokalos tbh, Never liked him.
I thanked to throw up seeing that first match there was so much bad In it. Why is that guy playing Astaroth to spam one freaking skill.
Woahhzz is one of the most cowardly troll SC players I've fought online. I beat him, naturally, but still.
Bobatrop how?
This is pretty #cornchipsy
🩵🩵🩵🩵
id smoke every fool in this video. its a shame.
Blueboy is childish as usual smh.
He's the same way online
Algol should be ban from tournaments
can i marry cross of ravens?
PLEASE SBOOBY
This poor poor game
Entertaining matches but gawd this game sucked. Completely ruined the gameplay of SC with meter and run counter
themusicman945Ⓥ but it dont..
Has still meter
Run counter
And all the shit we all hated about SCV
Dont get me wrong im hyped too for SCVI but it just seems that the creater dont care about the community other wise they wouldn't put the most hated features back in.. Or at least would change this a little.. Run counter is just stupid.. I dont care about the Meter tho it can be good if it has a great system to it
themusicman945Ⓥ
You know, you are right
Everything you said makes sense
But i have to say that i liked SC2 and 3 the most too so i actually dont care what aris tells even tho i like him very much as an commentater
But i have pretty much the same feeling about 6 like him.. Probably cause SC2 was my favorite
But i need to admit that i was kinda blind seeing all the the good factors in this game and only focused on the Bad things (at least what i prefer as Bad)
But like i said befor you are right.. I should wait and See how the game turns out
I gonna buy it anyway i just have a Bad feeling for it but you gave me hope so thank you
Kommentare Schreiber aye good comment
This game is boring
Ewwww
This is what happens when you put too many magical characters in your game it looses it's soul. Don't let this happen to tekken 7. Which it kinda did. I sad now
pretty sure the "magical chars' weren't the problem when there weren't that much to begin with. Lack of content and too many clones are the big gripes with this game.
what does that mean too many clones?
MH_Nova/ZardX I think you're confused with Tekken Tag 2 bud
MH_Nova/ZardX In Terms of clones anyway
This game is ugly.
upplsuckimcool16 it came out in 2011 😭
and?
Why, are you saying a game like kotor that came out in 2006 is ugly just cuz it came out in 2006? or how about Super mario....was that game ugly cuz it came out in 91' or whenever it came out?
When I say ugly, I mean it looks bad.
Oh shit Look! The worst soul calibur game ever made. I remember selling this game 3 days after I bought it. It's sooooo bad.
Definitely not, 5 is the best SC since 2...
I liked 4 a lot better than 5
I can see that, since it was a rushed game...but I still liked it. Better than IV IMO.
I think it is the worst SC game. Not a bad game on its own merits, just my least favorite SC. It's definitely the second best tournament SC after the second installment. However, the single player experience might be the worst in the series.

Asteroth is just mashing.
Clob is an amazing astaroth player and you have no idea what you are talking about
linkorz amazing at mashing
You can't even mash as Asty.
scrub detected
Idk the mu but could asty have used more attacks with the axe
Alg voldo and the Asian girl with the sword were my mains. People would spam mare and sig tho....
You know, I don't like SFV at all either, but it's always annoying to hear dumb fanboy shit from commentators.
