SoulCalibur 5
Nothing to see down in the comments folks, just a bunch of scrubs who think they are better than everyone in this game and others telling lies about being in big tournaments. You're welcome.
Devils Isle Gaming thanks
thx my man
One of the best tournaments ever. The crowd, the commentary, the players, the hype, the reward, the matches, the crowd pops. THIS tournament has it all. I wish I was there :(
5:45 for the shit you actually wanna see.
HeadOfBucket not all heroes wear capes
HeadOfBucket Thanks dude
Alot of people talking trash like they could actually beat these guys. I'd like to see some of these guys in action in a high level event. Team Spooky doesn't entertain jive turkeys.
yall know that this tourney was held like 2 days after SCV was released, right?
The first Dominican Super Champion in fighting games, I will never forget this Fight man!
10,000 dollars!? I gotta get in this!
Forget SC6. This is the only video you need to watch
how many times did I hear "One Set Away??" It honestly wasn't hard to tell that the hosts/commentators were on Akire's side. When he gets his butt kicked, they say it's an "error"
5:47. You're welcome
7 years late but thank you slenderman
Oh god imagine the freaking tension in the fights, knowing $10,000 is on the line. Holy shit.
I just realized I've played almost 20 games against Omega and won half of them
I SUDDENLY FEEL AWESOME.
I'm so pleased that they are resurrecting soul calibur, one of my favourite fighting series, they made mistakes with 4 and 5 so hopefully they've learned and will produce a great game, looks good for footage so far.
Do you like it? I think it sucks.
i uploaded this from the hotel while i could - the rest will be coming soon as i can
holy shit that was intense. I need to start playing Nightmare o.o
Damn Spooky this is some high quality footage.
11:25 that move took like 90% of his life god damn
Holy got damn this was awesome. Both players playing it!
the hype is real
Soul Caliber!Good times :D.Can't wait for a new one to come out.
Nightmare is overpowered he cuts down 2/3 of your health before you can even get up.
Nightmare was okay in this game. If you want an example of an actual overpowered character from this game look up Patroklos
How do i use critical edge without hurting my thumb? I have n problem performing a critical edge but it hurts my thumb and sometimes leaves a bruise
Brandon man up.
the only thing I don't agree with both these players abilities is their habit to not side step often and staying blocked for too long opening up grabs enemy side steps and low hits, those are casual mistakes
+TheMacsMacs When these players can react faster than you, those options are not good ideas. They need to be more stagnant because a side step can just leave them vulnerable and a neutral block allows for countering more easily considering how extremely effective these players are at breaking out of grabs. Akire broke out of about 80% of the grabs used on him, no matter how sudden they were given.
The game had just came out in 2012
Alright, OmegaDR!!!! Fighting like the man. Congrats!
Viva la R.D. :)
Furious, u have no idea the mind games played by these guys. It may look simple, but only because they r on the highest level. If any of us were to fight them, they would manipulate our minds and get nothing but perfects
just mid and low? u sir, will never excel in SC
maxfreak3 right?? they HAVE to guess when to attack and what move to use otherwise if they only focus on attacking they will let their guard down and its over. ESPECIALLY WITH NIGHTMARE. if you charge aimlessly he just uses his brave edge and you have no life left. so yes, they were playing mind games and skillfully "poking" until there was an opening. ive only just started playing soul calibur 5 and i know that combos are not as prevalent as in street fighter, street fighter cross tekken, tekken, or marvel vs capcom. So the main goal is to guess your opponents moves, be unpredictable yourself and , when you find an opening, do as much damage as possible whether or not that means using a combo.
When Mitsurugi wraps his hair, shit gets real.
10k in cash for a tournament like this? omg..
That nightmare is SO LOW LEVELED dude... I could win this tournament. There are no tournaments of Soul Calibur here in Brazil, even 100$ tournaments. It's sad, because I consider it one of the most beautiful fighting games ever.
Thiago Pereira isn't there an online play for SC5?
welp a dota or lol tournament has way bigger prize
Aoi Kuragari sure, but there are 5 people + team manager, analyst, ...
Even so, there's way more money for every one in the winning team
Okay - probably the first time I've watched this game and not thought meeehhhhh. Good shit.
"Oh my god! Chuck Norris!"
It might surprise you to know how much time it takes to learn one character on tournament level, let alone two. I don't think many players would be willing to take the risk of switching up to another character at any point, despite the mix-up potential and keep you're best tricks hidden.
Nightmare is the most overpowered character. Next is Seigfred.
Akire just froze up under pressure. You can't let Nightmare get that offensive.
The ignorance in the comments is hilarious, mostly people saying a certain character is a cheap, (specifically nightmare, lol). The people saying this probably don't play the game, or aren't very good at it. Only character in this game that's considered OP by a general consensus of the community is Viola. Nightmare is good, but not THAT good. Also, this video dosen't necessarily represent high level play of today, this tournament is from less than 2 months after the game came out. Anyone claiming they would do better is full of shit.
Agreed.
Raphael and ivy destroy every sc character by far. From what iv seen the pro scene for SC is just bad.
Raphael is generally considered low tier, just above zwei and dampierre. So I don't know where you came up with that. Ivy is decent but not top by any means. If you look at tournament results of current events, characters that consistently do well are ones such as pyrrha, patroklos, viola, apat, nightmare and mitsurugi.
@@sickNsane810 raphael isn't good bro
I couldn't stop watching. So good :D
I'm honestly a bit disappointed cause I thought the mitsurugi was much more skilled
He honestly was, but Nightmare is just better.
Sherlock Holmes honestly not surprised Nightmare took this. His movements that get coupled with his stances make Nightmare such a fluid character and the guy doesn’t just poke like Mitsurugi. Yeah Mitsurugi can lay on damage sure but Nightmares reach is what makes him a huge threat.
Avery Lopez
No. The person who played Mitsurugi doesn't know how to play as Mitsurugi.
Nightmares range doesn't matter if he knows how to use Mitsurugi.
Not a Soul Calibur fan when it comes to watching matches, but this was the most exciting fighting game match in a long time. All umvc3 lately was watching morrigan shoot plasma full screen or seeing the timer run out in sfxt. Good game, respect to the two players. Fake hype my southern region!
When soul calibur vi drop. I'm taking the crown
Gonna have to fight me for it brah. I know the feel though, of coming into a game after it started dying a little, I'm so ready for SC VI to be announced already.
Lol first of all I've been playing scv since it dropped haha. An unless your really good...and I mean really good not just pretty good or ok...but really good then it wouldn't even be a challenge bro. But yea I'm waiting for Sciv as well. It should be here around 2018
Both of you will suffer before my Algol.
You play on Xbox or psn?
Used to play on PSN, SCIV and V. If they come out with SCVI, I'm going back into it.
That first round though?!?
That first round thou!?!
BuT that first round though!
It only took 15 seconds!! It only took 15 seconds for fam to get a perfect?
Crazy
Not to sound vain here, but these people don't really look THAT good; they missed several easily punished moments. I think the Mits player is far better; the Nightmare one doesn't follow through with any of his combos properly. For example, I dunno WHAT he was doing at 18:19. I'm surprised he won in the end.
The mits player was definitely superior and even he was pretty sloppy and didn't use the character to his potential, nightmare is so easy to counter for anyone who knows how to play this game, would have been no contest for most at home mits players
RaxuRangerking You people can't be this stupid. World tournaments select for the best players. That's how everything works. There isn't some underground bball player that's better than Lebron James, just like there isn't some casual sh*t-talker who's better than current gaming world champion. It's funny, sad, pathetic...
jlushefski Please check the definition of ''Champion'', rewatch the video, and then respond accordingly. Those people are casuls; I could beat either of them easily. It's obvious that they're just choosing from the best of the worst for these tournaments.
RaxuRangerking well obviously this was from 3 years ago.
+jlushefski This is after a few months of the game's release, I believe.
Gotta love it when the finals are between the classic characters
11:25 ! WTF. OP AS HELL.
Nah it makes sense. Nightmares CE is one of the longest charging in the game. If you get hit without the GI you're punished hard.
Thx bro - who would have thought you would grow into such a beast lolol^^ - I'm slowly getting there - just need to drop "flashy" for a bit more "clinical" play - Ive been reluctat to get embarrassed, but you'll be seeing more of me soon....................^^
that SPAM mitsurughi . oh wait , its just mitsurughi
me or mistu ?
axel blanchard Mitsu.
yeah fulll spam and its op
Shout outs to the peeps who played SC1 on Dreamcast on Christmas morning all those years ago. Magical times.
LOL@ all these casuals thinking they can hang w/ these guys.... So amazing.
The gap between the casual and a competitive tournament player is like comparing NFL player to a 10 year old playing casual non-tackle foot ball.
I'm a high tournament lvl SF player and came across a friend of a friend who said that players in these competitive videos don't look very good as they just "move back and forth and not doing much," "not jumping over fireballs," "not comboing much" and etc... He said he beats all of his friends easily in SF and he actually agreed to come over and play me.
I beat him 50-0, half those with health handicap, and 10 games where i just used the roundhouse button w/ Ryu. By end of the set, he was so shut down and scared to press anything or do anything that i would literally just hold forward on the stick and he would jump-back/walk himself to the corner and stay there like a cornered rat.
All you casuals thinking you can hang w/ competitive players LOLOL. I wish I played SC competitively just to shut these idiots up.
realhumanbean theres alot of follow ups and combos not being used by both nightmare especially. U can have a constant stream of heavy hits with nightmare... surprisingly lacking in the "world champ"
I get strategy is involved but there was a few basically unstopable combos and follows that werent used that would have caused ring outs or in a few cases a straight up k.o or gaurd break or knock up. Dunno about the other much but ive mained nightmare in every sc game and can say for a fact there was an odd look to this ones style that personally using nightmare i probably would have noticed and used to rip him up. He seemed unaware of the characters flow or follow ups to me. The quick chop has a follow up backspin swing ubcan use imediatly even if blocked that is a gaurd break and heavy damage.. i didnt see it used like that once. So i can see why people think this is a joke he could have opened him up and smashed him a few times.
realhumanbean nightmare also was alot more wide swings and almost spin type attacks that werent used. Hed dash forward to close space wich got him hit a few times when he could have swung from where he was and popped him up and smashed him back down atleast it was unblockable the 9 times he dashed instead. And 4 of them he got hit. Sloppy. And seemingly unaware of more thanbhalf his arsenal. Id fight him anyday using nightmare only using the 5 attacks he does XD considering every character has about 20 or more
r/thathappened
Why block when you can space? Because of the 3D movement, there are way more options for movement and avoiding, as seen by a lot of the clutch sidesteps and backsteps that Omega and Akire pulled off.
5:46
This boy with big muscles he thinks himself super man 😂
big muscles...lol what r u 5?
+Joshua Willis i dont know am not good in English
Entertaining final ^^ Congratz to both players!
These people play like a couple of casuals.
do they still do tournaments for this game
no shit
Akire is a very poor mitsurugi user! He under uses the character! mitsurugi is better than how he uses the character. i dont see him utilize variations and combinations of fight sequence. Ill totally crush him if i have the opportunity. Also mitsurugi's weakness is the lag at the end of each attack. This weakness can be bridged by mastering the Guard Impact. Akire will play better If he can master the "Guard Impact" in addition to his current skill but ill still crush anyway.
Martin Whyte guard impacts are a poor alternative to just guards i was never really good at justs but used alot of guards but its easly countered because of guards lag but these players are really bad evo players show much more skill
They barely had time to play, this happened shortly after launch if I'm not mistaken
i'm the best with cervantes, can i partecipate at this tournament? or how can i do for partecipate? please answer me thanks guys
+Andrea Spadavecchia You don't. Your welcome.
fuck off noob :D
+Andrea Spadavecchia It's very hard to get into any competitive scene, but I think they have qualifier events, so I'd start by trying to find out when these events are being held and then try and go to them. Good Luck :D
filthy casuals
Also I don't play this game but am I right in thinking that its less about execution and more about timing, positioning and knowing characters?
Sounded like there was about 30 people in there, and they were yelling like they were performing at a concert. The hell.
It wasn't the Olympics when I was mentally preparing myself to play my older sisters in Tekken at the age of 9 either, but from what I could tell it made a difference. Although we were fairly competitive, and no one had more experience than anyone else, so every little bit helped.
makes you wonder how many ppl @ home who didn't know/don't care/don't have time or resources to make it to the tournaments who could possibly win.
im thinking of getting a new fighting game should i get mortal kombat 9, umvc3, street fighter x teken or soul calibur 5?
My problem with it is that showing what your mental rhythm is to your opponent while they are taking a break, lets your opponent know your state of mind. And therefor can help them figure out what you'll do next round.
You should be able to hold onto your rhythm in your head.
I'm mainly a smash player, but this is what I wish for so badly for the smash community. The developers of the game catering to the competitive audience, while still making it possible to be a casual experience. Sakauri (the creator of super smash bros), insists that it must be a casual experience, which is beyond frustrating. But here, the developers thrive here. I just wish this was what smash was like
So guys we know and need it.......let us all vote for a soul Calibur tag tournament..... join me and call out to namco for them to make it....the game has been around long enough and deserve that.
Damn, Nightmare is sick in this game
Is mitsurugi still viable? Or did he get majorly nerfed?
Damn did you borrow cameras from FoxNews?. video clearer than windex.
6:53 now that is some millisecond execution haha
soul calibur is all about movement and positioning. character knowledge is important but being aware of your positioning is veeeery important.
aww.. i wanted to watch this :P stayed up till about 4am and i saw nothing on youtube and didnt know what to do.. :(
The guy with the sign is like, OMG he's talking straight to me.
huge difference between the tekken + sc communities and the capcom game communities. rather than blindly cheering and shouting during a big match they are more content to just sit and watch and analyze what is going
No kidding, it sounded and looked hype as fuck. Hell just watching I felt hyped up to see the action. It was a crazy good match.
i think is the first time seeing a player in the finals using a controller.
thank-you very much for the video! do you know where i can find the rest of the tournament?
That was interesting to me, forget the haters down below.
SC2 will always be the best to me. I don't know about anybody else but especially graphically that game reallllllyyy fucking holds up well to this day. The combat just also feels so tight for being as old as it is.
I prefer SoulCalibur 3
LOL @ the Phoenix wright bubbles. And that hype. R.I.P headphone users.
There were like 30 intoxicated people who happened to already be in Vegas at the event, which was announced less than a month in advance. There wasn't enough time for it to gather momentum. EVO on the other hand is a regular occurence that people are getting up for all year.
This was so fucking good. Just the fact that its $10k theyre fighting for has made me lose my shit at how even they are!!
Fuck yessss omegaDR did that shit. The winning song was iconic too lmao $10k in the Dominican Rep. is COINNNN babyyy he gonna be swimming in money!!
great vid spooky!
cant you just turn up the mic volume instead of screaming? awesome commentary markman
You're right, but I'm just really tired of seeing Nightmare in every single match. :( Oh well, I'll deal with it. Do you have any tips on what's punishable and how I could counter him? He can turn the tide of battle so quickly
The finals were in Las Vegas
this was awesome to see. these are my two favourite characters in SC5
What happened to Rush (Jeff) the asian kid from the west coast that won the first soul calibur game before it came out?
This hypes me up to get this game...is it good to pick up for new players?
man.... he kept using that move that took out like 80% of mitsurugi's health.
Matches like this makes me wish my Xbox 360 hadn't RRoD'd two years ago. =( I miss the mind games… and the character creation.
been to many soul calibur or tekken tournaments?
I find the most fun matches to be even characters with no advantages over the other, and they attack quickly, not big and slow with a giant axe. It requires a lot more technicality.
There's a lot more to it than that, although you are watching two of the more aggressive players out there. They block, but sparingly, because if you just stand there holding guard you're pretty much frozen up and they will throw you or make you face some really difficult mixups. Also the latest patch for this game made it much more risky to move around, so just moving and blocking is a bigger risk in itself, giving you more incentive to attack when you are close to them.
are those players the best in the world? almost as good as the hard difficulty
I always watch one of these things, and, like many SCV players, finish watching the video thinking 'I could have beat him...'
if the critical edge from nightmare hit the oponent in neutral position does that damage, is very rare to happen...because that critical edge is designed to guard impact the attack and then does normal damage
i see many parry and break here, what a pro level
Awesome match. Fucking exciting up until the end. Congrats OmegaDR and good job Akire.
But what if executing combos keeps them in the right mental state to... execute those combos in the next match??
What's the purpose of The Mitsu player having to reset the sets?
the move at 08:56 by Nightmare was straight stunting, like a Boss
There's a very unusual situation thus the commentators saying "what's happening", nightmare started charging and mitsu accidentally inputted the unblockable allowing nightmare to fully charge and have it counterhit. He tried it again in the next round and you can see what normally happens mitsu sidesteps casually and back attacks.
you've got a point about this. So many moves stun and stun lasts way too long. just as many of those stun moves have pretty ungodly tracking so anyone who knows a small stun combo can just wail. been playing SC since 1 and i dont remember stuns or "stuns" being so prevailent. really makes it hard to make any form of comeback. though i did notice they must have implimented the "magic pixel" pretty deeply. so many times i thought a win or loss, only to have just a sliver of health left.
No Assians on the final O:?
