To be fair, we're talking Cataphracts. No other heavy cavalry in RTW are like them. Their immense armor, Maces with Armour Piercing combined with powerful charge are a unique and deadly package. If you used other elite cavalry they would have done significantly worse compared to them. There's cavalry with better attack then them, but they lack the armor and Maces / Armour Piercing that Catas have.
Pikemen detaching from formation is hilarious, if they stuck together they'd have a chance but no, pontus' better warriors slowly get away from danger as if nothing happens
@@pablolongobardi7240 Companion Cavalry and Gothic Cavalry do indeed have better attack. It's just in armor it's way better for Cataphracts Goth have 9, Companion Cav have 11 armor, while Catas have a whopping 18. There's also the matter of Cataphracts can pull out a Mace for Alt Attack and get Armour Piercing perk. Considering a lot of the best units in the game have high armor, Cataphracts are even better suited in dealing with them. Roman heavy infantry? Even the best of the best general infantry, Urban Cohort? Catas will stomp them. General Bodyguards, even Late versions? Catas will deal with them quite well, too.
@@Warmaker01 nicely put! How about stamina, I kinda got the feeling they get tired quick. I remember medieval 1, cataphracts were super op and also super early
It's ridiculous how the cataphracts can lose half their men in the first few seconds and still win. Their morale might be a bit too high for their own good.
Nah it's exactly as high as it should be for an elite cavalry unit. It's more that the funky way the Phalanx goes makes it scatter too far and end up fighting worse than it should hence why double click is necessary for them to fight optimally.
Already done a couple of them. Links below :) Thanks for the comment. th-cam.com/video/LKytBWrU5aY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/t_VHSOyThfk/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/E62CIJ4pKfU/w-d-xo.html

Agreed on that :) Thanks for the comment.

Yea, better part of valor there ;D Thanks for the comment.
Good vid keep it up!
Thank You! Doing my best :)
It"s still really crazy how strong cataphracts are. I think it's strongest cav in rome 1.
Thanks for the comment. Agreed if Elephants are not taken into account :)
@@qualityoldgames7721but don't goth cavalry (the one from temple) have stronger charge/ attack
In def, cataphracts are def better
@@pablolongobardi7240 so do companions, scythian nobels, and praetorian cav. He means overall, as in they win against the most things.

Thanks for the comment. Yea, that is quite a turn-around :)
Can you make a video about the triangle formation for cavalry? I always thought it's completely useless, but maybe didn't use it right
I remember a lot of discussion about that even when the game was new. Most everyone felt it was useless lol

Now same thing with Bronze Shields but in a desert maybe?
Thanks for the comment. Imo the results would be the same as neither have bonus in desert :)
@@qualityoldgames7721 You know you're right, I'd have sworn up and down they had bonus in desert. Silly me really.

Cataphracts are so broken
Yea, they are quite op :) Thanks for the comment.
With no evidence I am going to assume standing still facing them directly.
Let's see :) Thanks for the comment.
And if they flank you?
