Yeah, as powerful as Berserkers are their small number and vulnerability to missiles causes them to get taken down too early for them to win. They should be used like more uncontrollable and vulnerable elephants who should be made to war cry and go Berserk and then have other more numerous units like Chosen Axemen or just Axemen or Night Raiders charge alongside them if you want to exploit the fear effect and make armies rout faster so you can have one big slaughter.
Hot take: Berserkers are overrated in head-to-head combat. They are best utilized in hammer-and-anvil with the Spear Warband. Perhaps that might be a good test against the Roman infantry roster.
The problem is the Berserk state makes that almost impossible to not mess up. They would have to be given a certain distance and only Warcry when they are ready to attack and even then, they might go Berserk too early and ruin the test.
@ That’s mainly a question of troop placement and proximity. Yes, it would take extra effort to get the Berserkers where you need them, but if the test was spread over more “battles”, with fewer enemy troops and therefore fewer opportunities for the Berserkers to aggro before they are ready, I believe it can be done.
Thanks for the comment. Yea, agreed that with Hammer and Anvil they would be really great. Though, imo perhaps 2 Spear Warbands would actually do the trick ;)
@@jamesf3871 I mean you can try but there will always remain a risk factor that even with distance the Berserkers will still go blood crazy and start randomly charging the nearest enemy unit they find.
I don't think we can be too hard on the berserkers if they beat a legionary cohort. They're definitely not the best unit on the German roster (that honour goes to the Chosen Axemen) but they're not something you ever want to get into melee with. Shame one unit of Cretan archers spells their doom if those Cretans aren't immediately met with chosen archers or barbarian cavalry (or heavier).
OG Rome is such a dumb ass game 😂 between pink pyjamas, Bronze Age Egypt, and faq-off berserkers there is no thought from the original developers as to historical accuracy.
Its time for these legionaries to face unspeakable horrors, war elephants
'That elephant ate my entire contubernium.'
I guess that will be the case soon :) Thanks for the comment.
@@napoleoncomplex2712 :D
Berserkers are having the time of their lives so they win by default
A good point :) Thanks for the comment.
So does Obelix😂
Legionary Cohort put up a good fight. Down to RNG. They usually win if they brace for impact and use both pila throws.
Thanks for the comment. Agreed. Also loose formation would help them as Berserker spins would not be that effective :)

Thanks for the comment. Agreed on that :)
TBF - When Berserkers are trained, they have at least 2exp from their shrine
Agreed on that. Though probably the Legionaries would have some Blacksmith upgrades as well :) Thanks for the comment.
AHAHAHAH THE CROWD CONTROL SQUAD
The berserkers can get rather unruly if they win ;) Thanks for the comment.
Shout out to the one legionary who managed to kill two berserkers
Agreed. Rather impressive :) Thanks for the comment.
Berserking commanders: Gans
Indeed :) Thanks for the comment.
So turns out the berserkers are not as strong when used against a human player who's just gonna throw pila at them.
Thanks for the comment. Agreed on that. Tbh, I was expecting more of them :)
Whelp, guess that 1/3 unit loss from the pilum throw told it all
Thanks for the comment. Agreed, that was quite devastating :)
And the ones that survived got wounded.
Ahhh beating the romans until they are sent flying. I miss certain Village in Armorica already😂
Yea, there is some semblance there :D Thanks for the comment.
Desert Axemen vs Foederati Infantry

Thanks for the comment. Well, they certainly took some historical liberties ;)
