    Why not color grade the GoPro footage in a similar way using the same Final Cut Pro editing software? Why not use a heavier battery on the GoPro drone so that it flies more similarly?

    to be honest, the jittery and soft bm footage looks not as good to me as the Gopro looks. You have similar color information in the 11 thanks to 10bit. I get the point that clients sometimes want the big guns, but personally I findthe Gopro look much better and cleaner

      While the GoPro looks crispy, the lens options on BM with the 7.5, 9, and 17mm Laowa lightweight lenses are soooo nice.

      GoPro technically has 10 bit but when you actually use it you don;t have near the flexibility of something like the BM

      have to agree on that bm looks jittery and soft.. some times cheaper and simpler is the way to go.

      @@auleoo unfortunately if it's required for the file sizes or for lots of lens options, GoPro doesn't have that option. Naked bmpcc4k are standard on commercial sets for fpv, unless it's komodo.

      @@threeweekstowanderthat’s the point . that crispy look that you like is usually considered amateurish, you can add sharpness quite easily if needed. Removing sharpness isn’t as easy or effective. The in camera digital sharpness is a big no no for video production, that’s why, if i have to shoot with the gopro i would reduce in camera sharpness in the settings

    interesting video! my takeaway is that as a non-professional that would be a waste of money as you said at the end. I mean I do have a pretty awesome professional-tier camera with a collection of nice lenses, but I would never carry it without a wrist-strap to keep it safe let alone put it on a drone haha, with my piloting skills that would be an absolutely insane decision that would 100% end in tears. i have so much respect for you guys who have the skills that let you confidently fly something so pricey, it looks so stressful

    Ok but why did you export a h264 8bit clip and not a hvec 10bit clip? Also the 11 mini gives me no issues at all, I have also the big GoPro and I fly only the mini now. When you unlock GoPro labs it is even better to colorgrade .

      For sure. I don't know but I feel like most of these creators dont know about gopro labs and the log footage you can get from it. To be honest you can get that same quality on the gopro as on the blackmagic, just without the extra adjustments like iso changing

    I fly with a naked blackmagic and can see the difference. However I am fussy too and dont mind the extra efforts required for the extra image quality gained. Having a real laowa 7.5mm rectilinear lens and good ND filters and camera with full control is worth it to me. If one doesnt color grade or wants point n shoot ease then stick to the gopro. One must use post stabilization for the BM but the 16 bit color in post is divine. What you put into it is what ya get out.

    I’m at the exact same point in my FPV career. I don’t have clients asking for cinelifter shots but I need to have one for when the time comes. Definitely going for the 7” vulture possibly adding the 8” arms and propellers to make it a little more beefier for some fast shots

    Danny...first awesome job on this video! If I'm totally honest, I had no idea anyone was making these Black Magic FPV's (really love the START/STOP recording button and Toggle switches on the drone itself). Looks top notch! Totally agree that GoPro gets the job done (I use them all the time myself). However, my personal favorite for FPV is still the GoPro BONES! Light, small, use QRC Codes and I'm up and flying. Personally I've had ZERO issues with the GoPro Bones. As far as the Black Magic FPV and Camera setup...looks amazing and for the PRO its well worth it if you are getting those types of clients and their paying properly to reflect the additional costs. I'm certain that the heavier drone helps in those 'high wind' conditions your probably getting a lot of in Hawaii. Great job on this video!

    Great video, I have flown side by side with a naked black magic cam in Istanbul, the difference especially on harder shots, darker shot etc is immense... But what I`m actually interested is your plug-ins and what they are actually doing? Do you have a video on that? For example I use gyroflow and Fcpx as separate programs, what do I gain from installing the toolbox? I don`t fly a blackmagic, would I gain anything by it?

    Looking at the footage blind, "currently" I prefer the GoPro however... I think that's because you have an established workflow and are used to grading the GP footage, I think given time to get your BM workflow down and your grading sorted, the Black Magic footage will blow the GoPro away. I can see you're getting the hang of it as some of the footage at the end looks amazing (even if YT crushes video).

      Yeah, it can’t even be compared . It’s apples and oranges. Gopro is cool and all but it’s just an action camera. What you are buying with the BM is way more possibilities, of course that’s if you know what you re doing when you shoot and when you colorgrade, if not, Gopro is your best bet

  • @jasperclark8737
    @jasperclark8737 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was interesting to see, but I think it would have been better if you used an nd filter on the gopro too, as well as recording gopro in flat colour profile and then colour grading the gopro too for closer comparison. Also, the bm footage you took looks more blurry, and the gyroflow still isnt perfect as i spotted a few moments with stutter. Also the colour grade on the bm didn’t look that good compared to others who colour grade their gopro footage. Interesting rigs though, and i appreciate the video.

    This is a tough one, knowing TH-cam also jacks with settings after uploads. In this sampling... GoPro > BM in color... but to be fair, it could be the LUT or just personal preference to the color tweaks you added. I'd rather have seen a sample of trying to match the colors to each other rather than showing something tweaked to a personal preference vs one that is straight out of the box. The reds were pushed to the extreme in the BM samples. While a fun look, it just doesn't look as realistic when compared to the GoPro footage or your studio camera for that matter. Color aside, I was hoping to see a cleaner center focus on the BM setup. A GoPro kinda has that infinite focus look of a smartphone more so than a bokeh effect of a cinematic lens, but having more in focus is preferable to things out of focus. I'd guess the gyro flow settings caused some issues here. Keep tweaking... I think you'll get it figured out and be able to justify the expense difference soon enough. Nice flying btw.

    Hey Danny! What tech specs are you running on your computer to handle these massive files?

  • @RCWolfFPV
    @RCWolfFPV ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Danny, are you really comparing a fully compressed h264 8 bit footage to a braw? You can equally manipulate the colors from the 10 bit prores footage, I've done it multiple times.. Naturally nothing compares to braw, (maybe EXRs from a red/arri) but at least it would be a "fair-er" comparison:D As you mentioned I highly doubt the PRORES of GOPRO is true PROREs, but at least its not as compressed and with Labs and mbps pulled up as much as possible you can get better results. The BM on your drone probably still needs a few tweaks as there is a little jello, and focus hunt, but hopefully you can get that tweaked! awesome drone tho, I envy you a lot for it!

    • @Mcgeee
      @Mcgeee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, yeah 100% need to get better at the BM workflow - but as far as doing h.264 to the Braw it's a fair comparison based on previous experience with prores gopro footage. I've done extensive tests and the differences were negligible

    Clients often wants the big guns because it is „more professional“ and matches the cameras they use. But they often have no clue and couldn’t tell which camera you’re shooting with, unless they see it or you’ll tell them!
    But to be honest, i am 100% sure, that if you show the footage of the gopro and the Black magic to a hundred different people and nobody knows which cameras and drones you are using, well over 90% would say that the go pro footage looks way better and if they should guess, they would for sure say that the gopro is the more professional footage/camera!
    So in my opinion it’s absolutely not worth it! I am disappointed by the Black magic, but at the same time extremely impressed by the quality of this cheap little gopro!

    Do you have a video for someone looking at getting a drone, goggles and transmitter for someone disabled but knows how to fly a drone and get back into my graphics and photography with? I've been taking care of my grandmother for 13 years and at the end of July she went to her resting place from cancer as I was beside her. I need to get back into my graphics again and would like to start adding FPVs to my arsenal. Other than a plane ride, even in my dreams I can't fly. A friend bought 2 drones from a store going out of business and gave me one after I shattered my ankle. as I was flying one day it it went up about 50-60 feet and decided to run away. And with a shattered ankle recovering couldn't jump the fence to see where it went. Even walked the road it went straight down. I'd like a either RTR or build that will last awhile with good quality video. I've seen you like the DJI goggles V2 and the 03 avata transmitter. But the drone I would like good run time, something that can hold a decent size battery and range. Thank you for your advice in advance. I ride again and with a back pack can take a drone. Thank you again for you professional opinion. I got into Hobby grade RCs and now have 10 that I could sale all but 3 and start my FPV drone endeavor. So I would have about $2500 to start something. Thank you Danny.if you get the chance to respond. If not, thank you for taking time to read this. Love watching you work and the passion. I need that in my life now that my best friend (my grandmother) is gone. I need my mind to breath and leave this ball of dirt for awhile and get back to my graphic and photography roots.
