  • FPV freestyle takes drone flying to a whole other level... with flips, spins, dives, and a whole bunch of impressive tricks that require extreme precision to pull off. This week I tried to get better at it.

    Make sure you cut the throttle completely on the inverted yaw spins and it should be more floaty
    Edit: using dynamic idle then turning down your idle percentage will give you even more hang time.

    • @skyhackerfpv7104
      @skyhackerfpv7104 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Great tip, also the faster you spin the faster you fall. Try a slower yaw spin once you're inverted

    • @bandobandit353
      @bandobandit353 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The kwad actually spins 2 of the 4 props to create a yaw motion. So even if you go to zero throttle you'll have some acceleration towards the ground. It's difficult to incorporate into a flow as you typically need the extra height.

    Inverted yaw spins were the bane of my existence for probably a months worth of trying to nail it. After a combo of higher rates, lower idle rmp, and lower camera angle it was way easier. Lowering the idle reduced the downward pull and making the camera closer to level made the motor plane closer to being parallel with the ground, dampening the wobbling feeling you tend to get. I still can’t really incorporate it into my flow really well. it always feels forced or like an afterthought, like I have to take time to line it up and don’t really know how to transition in/out of it from other moves.

    Honestly, the easiest way to get better at freestyle is to just put hours and hours in the sim. I prefer Liftoff since the maps are the most diverse (I find each map lends itself to different skills in freestyle). No need to crash your drone or wait for batteries to charge, just get that muscle memory and it will transfer to real life with some fine-tuning.

    Brilliant video/diary. The improvement in the final clip is so evident. Nice.
    Having an "off day" is so odd. I've had a few myself. Possibly distracted by other things going on!
    Good going mate. Merry Christmas.

    Great video, inverted yaw spin is challenging, I broke my quad arm when attempting this move. I will practice more and try again later.

    I felt exactly the same way when it came to day 5 and day 6. I believe that my brain did some database optimization and defragmentation unconsciously when I was asleep. My day 5 was like yours I just kept crashing and then all in a sudden on the next day, I felt I never had so much control over the drone and I nailed every spot where I crashed the day before. It feels like you didn't learn fpv flying step by step along the steep curve. You learnt that in one day.

    Matt's day 1 practise, does rolls & flips & swoops around trees.
    My first day, can't hover for longer than 5 seconds before I aggresively hit the ground and losing control :')

    Great video. Getting some stubby antennas or something like the iFlight Crystal directional antenna helps a lot with the `cool` factor when wearing the goggles.
    Also getting a replacement strap for the headstrap gets rid of the strap going over the top of your head and won't mess up your hair.

    I think you can do the inverted yaw spins smoother, if you start them with a half powerloop, that way you have more upward momentum, and it looks smother

    Great video Matt! Great progress! I’m currently doing a similar thing but I have a few freestyle legends that are helping me and my 7 yr old son with learning the tricks.
