I've just gone from an E46 m3 to F83 M4 to one of these in the space of weeks and can confirm, it doesn't feel as big as the measurements suggest. Its very nice. My F83 is a nicer interior clad in leather and better plastics, but its a 55k miles 8 year old car. The loaner I have from BMW is brand new and tight and insanely easy to drive. They have made the ZF behave like the DCT too. The selection process is more DCT than ZF and it doesn't creep like a DCT.

As an OG M2 owner it sucks that the G87 exterior takes so much away from how capable this car can really be…the cost of modifying it doesn’t make it easier either, it would be nice to see updates to the bumpers and more companies offering affordable aero as the years go on. We would consider it for sure 👍🏾
My brother and I went to BMW Track days at Road America and he loved that car. Did auto cross with it and he set the fastest lap in it. He said he enjoyed that car more than the G8X that it’s more engaging and fun to drive.

For me I bought the 2024 M2 in Brooklyn gray with the standard wheels that have the chrome outlines. The totally black wheels just disappear under the car. Carbon fiber roof a must. I got all options except the carbon seats. The carbon seats just are too tough to get in and out and the padding is too thin. I weigh 155 lbs and my butt and back would hurt in those seats after 50 miles. I went with the auto since I find 8 gears are better than 6. The manual transmission is a 20 year old product and can barely handle the torque. Next year BMW is kicking up the power 20 hp and the torque up to 475 or so, but if you get a manual, the torque stays at 406…because the manual can’t handle the extra torque. The auto in the fastest shift mode shifts at 150 milliseconds which is close to dual clutch territory. And it’s a no cost option. I always prefer a lighter color since it doesn’t show the dirt as bad as the red or black. The grey also has a hint of blue in the sun, which I like. The auto is faster (11.7 @ 122 mph vs 12.2 @ 118) and 0-60 (3.5 vs 3.9) courtesy of Car and Driver Magazine.
As being an owner of a G87 and it being my only car. Having the regular seats and sunroof are super nice things that just make the car feel that much more nicer.
It's not as bad as many thought initially but still... Even if we all agree that look is subjective, weight is not. Also I hate the fact that BMW killed DCT for the sake of ZF. This really says a lot about current goals of the brand. Long live the E82!
When these cars are modded like at 3:04 on, I do start to see some resemblance to like an E30 DTM car or the old 3.0 CSL race car. Very aggressive for such a small car.
A great review! I disagree on the gripes with manual though. The delay is there, but you just can’t replace the feeling of connection you have with the car. Paddles don’t do it for me, and the whole allure of the M2 is that it’s one of the last manual M cars they will make. There is just something special about that, and the small shifting delay is not enough to overshadow that.
I had an e92 M3 for 11yrs. Skipped the F series. Had to have the mighty S58. I've had my G87 M2 for 1 year and 1 month. Spacers and lowering springs the thing looks sick and is seriously fast. The manual in the G87 is a little better than the my manual E92 M3. The throw is a little shorter. I was skeptical at 1st but when you see it the flesh its mean and purposeful.
I was the same way and hated the rear end. Now having seen a few with a more aggressive ducktail spoiler or even Adro's swan neck GT style wing, it helps balance out the chunky lower portion of the rear IMO
People don’t realize that new cars get heavier because of new safety equipment and electronics that keep becoming added as standard equipment. I just ordered a 2025 M2 in Portimao Blue, 6 Speed manual. I got lucky that a dealer had an allocation at msrp. I tried so hard to get a discount but no luck after contacting about 6 dealers within 50 miles of me.
Dravit would've been such a dope color on the G87! I'm the same way about the rear. It's like dating a cute girl with a very disproportionate rear end. Kind of puts me in limp mode 😂
Currently I'm driving a 2024 Supra MT and I must say that the M2 is growing on me too. I have to test drive one soon. The only thing I really disilke are the tail lights. Wider tail lights in the style of the M3 would fit much better. The LCI will be in 2026 and in 08/24 there will be a small +20 hp bump and new color options (with one of my fav colors Grigo Telesto grey, yeah). Maybe I'll trade in my Supra and order one in 2028 (2029 will be end of production for G87) in grigo telesto if I really like it. But not sure If it will be a MT or Auto.
I hear you. I have a 23 Manual Supra in red, that I love. But drove a Manual M2 and it just hit the sweet spot. Maybe because I owned a 2014 Manual 2 Series for 9 years before the Supra. Been seriously thinking of selling the Sup and ordering a 2025 M2. It will be either exact spec as the red one in the video, or black with the dual tone wheels. I love many cars that people hate, and this M2 wins me even over. I wish I could keep the Supra and get the M2 as well 😅
Hey bro, I'm from Long Island. If you wanted to do a video on my car for comparison, I think that would be pretty cool. You just did the 740whp M3, I have a 780whp M2. If you're interested, let me know!
I know it still looks like a Lego, but I may purchase one. I'll 100% wait for the G87 M2 Comp or M2CS version though. Might as well since they're coming out in the next year.
I don’t hate the car: with mods it looks great overall, the S58 is an amazing engine, the interior is very nice. But the rear end, the big screen you stare at while driving, how heavy it is for a M2, and most of all how much these will depreciate in the next 5 years. All these things are a really big turn off 🤷♂️
I had a 2020 X3M and I took it on tail of the dragon and it did amazing so I'm not afraid if the weight of this car especially if they come out with and all-wheel drive competition version
Man when these came out I absolutely hated them. But BMW have the ability to do this weird thing where they bring something out that everyone hates and they know will grow on everyone and become the next wave of hype. Its already happened to me and I'm starting to really "get it". I actually think they are pretty frikkin dope looking. It's like a retro 80s meets new school chunky square blocky beast statement piece. They will definitely hold a place in the future for being a super unique departure in style. The interior and engine are both undeniably sound. I definitely think black looks fire. Throw on a splitter, side skirts, diffuser, springs and spacers and its guaranteed to have mad road presence and turn heads all day. I think it'll continue to grow on me but I still really like the look of my OG M2 for now. But would probably look super boring next to one of these with the same kind of mods. Having said all of that my next car will probably be a g82 M4 (even though I think they are too big) and chuck an Adro front bumper on but I wouldn't rule out a G87!
why are bmw fans hating on this? around the same size as an e46, MANUAL TRANMISSION, no big grille, flared fenders like the e30, big horsepower, sure it is heavier than the last m2 but it is so much faster
Agreed. That midnight metallic purple is going to be wanted by the car community on other makes once it gains more traction. Similar effect to the midnight jade I hope.
Carbon fiber is something like $2500 extra . . . I'll take the regular sunroof option! I prefer the normal seats too. The carbon seats look too racy and uncomfortable especially with use of a clutch in the manual.
Initially I hated the square new design. Love the flared fenders. The performance is incredible. However, BMW can give us a nice cockpit instead of the hideous skateboard, it ruins the beautiful interior design. The looks are definitely growing on me. I absolutely love manual transmissions for the fun factor, but I highly recommend the automatic with the intent of using the paddles to allow full control of the car at closer to limit cornering speeds. I have the M4-GTS since new and things happen very quickly, and my feeling is that it's a good idea to keep both hands on the wheel and shift in a split second. I hope BMW keeps the electric stuff out as much as possible at least in the M-cars. Cheers
The rear end is like the prelci e90m3 tailights. They looked terrible but thankfully was fixed with lci update. Bmw should use this opportunity to do just that for rear ends in m2s and front end bumper grilles of m3/m4s. Also Wish they kept that iconic fender grilles that M models all have
I don't understand in which context you compare E92 pre LCI taillight with the G87, they are not even close! Personally I prefer the pre LCI as they resemble G80 taillights more imho. Not a lot of individual LEDs in a dotted pattern, that's really ugly and there's a reason manufacturers has moved on from those...
@@TheRealDr.Mabuse bud did you even read my comment? The E90m3 is in no way shape or form the same as a e92 tailight so i have no idea what you yourself are refering to as i never wrote anything nor mentioned anything about the e92 tailight. People that know the e90 chassis know the precli tailight shape was really ugly and the lci version that had the shape redone on the trunk portion had improved the look 10 fold.
Just like everyone I hated the G87 M2 when it first came out. Picked up my BSM G87 6MT February of this year. It really is a car that slowly grows to you.. been enjoying mine very much.
A face and ass only a mother could love......"the car designed for $20K to make it look right". :-D Honestly, i still cant choke this down, obviously, it drives amazingly well but it's not one of those cars where i would turn back to look at it after i parked. I think the majority of BMW superfans are backing off of the hard position when this launched, simple because of the performance. Similar to the current M3/M4.
Technically it is a fantastic car. The styling is not that bad, but it was just a disappointment after the amazing F87 styling, which is simply perfect.
Red and black looks better because they are metallic. this car's frontend is very flat and have no details, no folds, no crooked lines, just five rectangular holes and flat front/hood. So car desperately lack some details. Metallic paint bring some reflexes which give car more details to hook eye on. Uni and matte colors doesn't do that so that's why it look worse and as someone said before - cheap. That's also why any additions like vorsteiner or ac schnitzer kit immediately make it more interesting
I have a 2020 Supra and I drove the M2. I went and found an M2. The M2 feels and rides better on the highway and city. However the Supra to me is way more fun for spirited driving in the city. The M2 for me makes the Supra feel outdated interior wise. I still have both and swap between them during the week.
I like how original and unique the design is. Its like a mini muscle car. Personally the rear end tail lights are the coolest part.
For me, I really like the front end but the rear is very odd. Interesting!
I love the rear taillights. The part he points out on the rear bumper is what kills me.

It's not as bad as many thought initially but still... Even if we all agree that look is subjective, weight is not. Also I hate the fact that BMW killed DCT for the sake of ZF. This really says a lot about current goals of the brand. Long live the E82!
As usually I think you’ve just sold me on another car😂. Thanks dude, great review
After seeing the M2 with silver wheels, I have to say that people don't realize its looks are seriously hurt by black wheels and certain colors.
100%
My 2025 portimao blue auto will be here soon
I just love this car...
The fact that we need to have to many videos talking about this car is enough to show how polarizing it is.
Considering going for one of these..
What's the steering wheel like and interior quality like?
I currently have a 2023 Surpra
I actually like the rear end more than the front end of the M2
Interesting, I think the front is beautiful and so aggressive but the rear just ruins it for me 😂
@@musawaseem8417I have a g87 and it looks much better with a rear spoiler, the trunk looks naked otherwise
Black. I agree with your opinion about the rear boxy bumper ...
I really like the car though. The design is pretty daring. Black for sure.
I was the same way and hated the rear end. Now having seen a few with a more aggressive ducktail spoiler or even Adro's swan neck GT style wing, it helps balance out the chunky lower portion of the rear IMO
I love the rear end
People don’t realize that new cars get heavier because of new safety equipment and electronics that keep becoming added as standard equipment.
I just ordered a 2025 M2 in Portimao Blue, 6 Speed manual. I got lucky that a dealer had an allocation at msrp. I tried so hard to get a discount but no luck after contacting about 6 dealers within 50 miles of me.
Dravit would've been such a dope color on the G87! I'm the same way about the rear. It's like dating a cute girl with a very disproportionate rear end. Kind of puts me in limp mode 😂
I like everything about it apart from the front end, if aftermarket can provide a decent solution I’d be tempted
I had the auto A90 Supra and now manual G87. I'd take the manual in the M2 over the auto all day. Auto gets boring on the street.
I actually want one next. Think a dual M2 garage would be dope! And ya know s58 👁️👁️
Rear > front all day! Paint match is a must
Currently I'm driving a 2024 Supra MT and I must say that the M2 is growing on me too.
I wish I could keep the Supra and get the M2 as well 😅
Its a shame about the manual, you arent the only person to have said that. Lots of journalist said the same about the manual in the G80 m3/m4 too
Hey bro, I'm from Long Island.
Not worth 100k or whatever they will ask for it
Portimao blue with silver wheels in a few weeks...plenty of power
Best car I’ve owned so far 👍🏼 looks better every time you look at it
I don’t hate the car: with mods it looks great overall, the S58 is an amazing engine, the interior is very nice. But the rear end, the big screen you stare at while driving, how heavy it is for a M2, and most of all how much these will depreciate in the next 5 years. All these things are a really big turn off 🤷♂️
Should hold value ok, not that many of them
I had a 2020 X3M and I took it on tail of the dragon and it did amazing so I'm not afraid if the weight of this car especially if they come out with and all-wheel drive competition version
Favorite TH-camr just enjoy anything this man posts
Doesn’t matter, after this gen is over and this car becomes used then it will be desirable again.
I'm excited to see the new frozen portimao blue
I love the look of the buckets but I don't think they're worth the $.
Given the opportunity, would you take a new E92 or G87?
why are bmw fans hating on this? around the same size as an e46, MANUAL TRANMISSION, no big grille, flared fenders like the e30, big horsepower, sure it is heavier than the last m2 but it is so much faster
I was one of those BMW fans that hated this car so much. Then I bought one.. 🤣
@@patc8653you cant be behind an M car and not have a smile on your face. They are so much joy. M motorsport at BMW really know what they’re doing.
They should have released it in the m240 purple. That is the best color BMW makes right now and it’s a shame it’s on on the M2
Agreed. That midnight metallic purple is going to be wanted by the car community on other makes once it gains more traction. Similar effect to the midnight jade I hope.
It is for 2025
@@fzr1000981just got to speak it into existence. You’re welcome everyone!
@zacharystansfield6083 not sure I want a prince purple car, I went portimao blue with silver wheels
don't knock it if you can't afford it
Carbon fiber is something like $2500 extra . .
Cheers
Short shifter, intakes and a radar are must haves
That baby blue is so dope
The best car I've ever owned. Frozen grey!
Carbon 🪣's? No heat, no a/c and no thank you ‼️💯👍🏿
Damn bro you drive all the way down to Waxhaw??
Frozen Grey and Frozen Portimao Blue > all colors for this car imo
🥶 🔥
100% my next car 🙏
Remove the CDV and put in AutoSolutions SSK should be a requirement for all BMW manuals.
The problem is simple: the last generation was bourgeois, the full screen looks bad too
I think the rear end looks good. Very aggressive kinda looks like a jet fighter.
What about frozen portimao blue?
@@vlad23i Sorry, my bad. I read it as E92.
@@TheRealDr.Mabuse no worries, e92 tailights were the perfecr shape for the car, no question there 👍
I love the zf but you have to try the s58 with the cvd delete and upgraded clutch . Completely changes the car
This car needs the purple from the m240
2025
Fan of Alpine Weiss. These are slightly faster than a Dark Horse. It think for the money it’s a bargain.
Is it in Tronto Red or Fire Red?
Just like everyone I hated the G87 M2 when it first came out. Picked up my BSM G87 6MT February of this year. It really is a car that slowly grows to you.. been enjoying mine very much.
i feel like it’s cool but they look bloated to me like how the mx-5 got chubby in 2006. u may have said it but do u like it better than the g80/g82?
Is that 6spd the same one found in Supra?
No. I believe the Supra and Z4 BMW share the same manual transmission. There may be a couple of slight differences though.
100%
Willing to lend you my automatic. Under 200 miles on it. Reach out, I’m in NY
I think the launch color was definitely not helping it
You trippen frozen gray the best color on the m2
We need a review of an auto!
I see you pulled out nice and easy at 6:39 when you saw that police truck.
I sold my auto Supra and I’m shopping for a manual. How does this pair up? Manual vs manual
I feel the same about the rear end of the two series
I drove one 3 weeks ago and the front end is ugly. The interior is nice and it’s fast but felt rather boring to drive and felt heavy!
What are you driving
@@fzr1000981 2018 Audi rs5 which I just recently sold. Currently looking at 718 cayman S
If you want the automatic, wait for the x drive, it will be a long wait. Or buy this now, then trade up to the xdrive when released.
Xdrive will not happen in the M2.
@@ThicWhips in 2026, Google it

Dead wrong 💀😏
I only like this car with the Vorsteiner Kit on it
