Hi everyone, thanks for watching!! Spoilers incoming. Game audio balance is a little high this time, sorry about that. I'll try to make sure that doesn't happen again. This time, I moved the notes to the top right because I'd heard they were overlapping with TH-cam's subtitles/captions. I also added a subtle sound effect to indicate when a note pops up, for people who are working on another screen and want an indicator that something needs to be read. Balance-wise, enemies made this game a struggle for hunters, especially in Infected Crossroads. The combination of having to use a new movement set which is quite awkward with Hollow Knight's level design, along with PvP, nerfed health and healing, and dodging enemies made it very tricky for them. Hunters were obviously very strong in some situations, but their biggest strength was fast horizontal movement and being able to engage/retreat very quickly, which I countered with Shade Soul. Still ended up being incredibly close -- one of the closest games yet for sure. Not perfect obviously, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out given the absurd concept. Next time, we'll try to figure out making the game a bit less painful for hunters while still keeping things balanced. 🙂 Speaking of, for next time, we have a new mod that will help to deal with the "transition moments." As much as it's entertaining when they happen, they really do discourage hunters from moving rooms at all, which is terrible for the game and makes it kind of luck-based, too. With this change, there should be a bit more roaming and chasing around the map without supplying the hunters with free information, which is something I'm looking forward to.
Hearing them say 'there's no way he could have gotten to by now' with fire's footage literally walking through the exact place they're talking about will never get old.

I love the small pov screen of the hunter occasionally popping up, showing how they just missed fire. It really shows how close they are sometimes to each other, wondering where fire is when they just missed him during a transition 😂
i love the number of like... transition confusions, where one hunter comes in a transition at the same time fire comes from the other transition. I think you wouldn't have won if y'all met each time. So for a suggestion, I'd love seeing you as a hunter with all your speedrunner knowledge, how you would fare in the opposing side.
Super funny to see hunters being too fast for their own good getting to places before fire does and thinking he's already gone or wasn't planning to go there
@@LUCIANOMARMORE Well he only posts his winning runs usually so, the video isn't too long so you usually only see the run fire goes crazy in or where the hunters get unlucky or play badly.
That carverhatcher pogo (18:08 - 18:16) was literally insane! Honestly, fun movement stuff like that is one of the reasons I love watching hollow knight content!
That was a really good one! The moving screen of the hunters' perspectives, showing their position in relation to you, really helped emphasize just how close some of those calls were, and made it a lot easier to follow c:
I don't know how you could make an hour long video when Celeste speedrunners are faster than Sonic, the Flash, and light itself. That's really impressive, excited to see how this is balanced!
Personally I love the games where fire has to sneak around the much more powerful hunters. I think it'd be really cool to see a match similar to the powers episodes but fire has something that allows him to sneak around the hunters more efficiently
@@ethangoodrich3625 prop hunt as a hiding mechanism- whenever you heal, you also turn into a random area-specific prop until you move again (both hunters and fire would have this power)
Very fun concept! I'm so excited to see how this plays out. Potential Spoilers beyond this point: Edit 1: Still early in the video, but the hunters' speed seems to be working against them more than for them, since they go way quicker than Fire, and end up assuming he can't be places that he is because they checked it before he got there. Edit 2: They did a much better job chasing during the second half. And a solid run for his money during Lap 2 Teacher's Archives. I'll be making one more edit once I finish watching the video, but it definitely seems like a Fire win. Final Edit (3): The Celeste movement was very helpful for the hunters' movement, but the nerfed combat abilities seemed to be what really made the hunters struggle. Only having a maximum of 4 HP seemed to make keeping pressure a struggle, and even with the high movement, it seemed they were just generally spreading out more than they could afford to. But even so, they still managed to create some pretty tight spots for Fire! All in all, a very fun one to watch, and I'd definitely be interested in seeing another one of this. (Side note: if you haven't already, try playing with the Celeste Movement mod yourself! It's fun, but can also make clear some of the issues the hunters were having.) :3
I keep waiting for fire to rush dreamgate one of these speedrunner vs hunters game. Would be an awesome "get out of monomon jail free" card even if it's risky as all hell. That being said, this is, as always, amazing content, looking forward to the next one.
Dreamgate requires like, failed champion + lost kin + a couple dream warriors doesn't it? it's kinda a lot, I guess it's not too bad though in a run where he's getting wings already. I wonder if dreamgate might be on the banned list usually, like stags
@@silphv it should be 900 essence, I think it's exactly one of elder hu/xero/gorb +lost kin + failed champ. And I think it was banned on the TE run, but on a normal run, I think the risk of doing any dream fight and getting caught should far outweigh the reward of *maybe* teleporting across the map once or twice. Edit: My math is a bit off. Failed champ is 300 essence, I've really struggled with him on my first playthrough and not as much with lost kin, so in my mind they're permanently both worth 400 essence. 😅 So it's actually two of Elder hu/Gorb/Xero + failed champ + lost kin. That's probably the only practical way of getting there if fire ever commits to it. Maybe there's a way to skip on the 2 dream warriors if he does Galien, that may be a bit more safe in terms of getting caught going for it. Would love to see it even if I think it's supremely impractical.
This was such a good team of hunters man. Not only did it seem like they had great communication instead of 4 people each doing their own thing for the most part, but this was really entertaining compared to other videos as you could tell these guys were really actually having fun with this challenge.
I'm so glad this worked so well, I've been thinking for a long while that one thing that could make this genre more interesting is assymetrical movement options, and this was a big push in that direction, along with the super powers idea that's been done a few times. Hyped to see it done again.
32:37 the problem is that fire is so good that it's easy to undestimate him... but is also easy to OVERestimate what he can do. That allowed fire to gaslight them into believing that he could have dream nail.
you know what would be crazy? If on a match fire rushed Isma as much as possible just to confuse the hunters a lot and then sneak somewhere in the middle of their confusion
Fire, that escape and fight after Lurien was insane!! I know you did a heart rate tracker in the past when fighting in a pvp tournament and I thought it'd be sick to see that come back for Hunters vs Speedrunner because my heart was beating fast at that moment 😂. this episode is awesome. you've made my favourite thing to watch on all of youtube, easily, with this series. the effort and adjustment you continually put in (readjusting balance for both parties to keep it competitive, trying different varieties of 'gimmicks', messing with the meta) is so appreciated, always noticed, and really amazing. something new is always popping up to improve the viewing experience and the viewing experience is baseline excellent. thanks as always for a really good time
really liked the balance in this one, information trickle to hunters was really well moderated to keep them guessing without being totally lost (except for the screen transition issues) and combat gave us so many edge of the seat moments. really could have gone either way and i love that
It was pretty fun watching the hunters learn on the fly, like at the beginning they were going so fast through rooms that checking them was hard, but then they learned to have more sentry outposts, very cool version of the game.

This one was insane. I really was getting worried at spire and monomon forgetting that you had already pre killed. And thk was pretty intense as well. Definitely my favorite type of video you make
Hey Fire. I know these are mainly challenges and not just "for fun" type of hunts. Its fun to watch but you get what I mean. But what if you combined the two gamemodes you had done before? The Hunt and the Among Us one? So youd be hunted by 4 hunters but one of them was a traitor and secretly helping you by either attacking their teammates or giving false information. You would also not know which of the hunters it would be. They could be drawing cards or something to determine which is and isnt a hunter and now none of them know either if they can trust the other. Or you can make it so they dont know from the start but I dont know how fun that would be for the runners to suddenly be backstabbed :o
It'd need to be 5 hunters, but yeah, this sounds super cool. It'd still be a challenge, too. Each of these videos tends to give the hunters some kind of advantage but then balances it out with a disadvantage. In this case, the traitor hunter could be the disadvantage they have. The advantage is 5 hunters, and maybe some other small advantage along with that, since the traitor would be slightly more of a downside than one full hunter. Edit: Actually, thinking about it, the traitor would probably be exposed by the end, in which case they'd actually be fighting with Fire, which is a huge advantage. That means the hunters would need a pretty massive advantage. Early game the traitor would need to at least pretend to fight, though, which means Fire would still be fighting 5 hunters, which, as we saw previously, is a bit unfair, especially if they have an advantage. They'd need some kind of power that's good later game, but not as good earlier...
This video... like most other... was AWESOME! Love seeing the hunters theory craft for half the movie just trying to figure out where you might be. I do like the mind game of them not having that many audio clues. I'm looking forward for the next one already! :3
I think a cool idea would be for hunters to have to get their stuff. For example, they don't get dash when you do, they have to get dash themselves. I feel like this would cause them to have to make more decisions about whether to guard something or go for movement or health. Anyway, keep up the good work!
That was so much fun to watch, seeing how fast you change your movements and strategy in situations where I would've lost my composure and died was insane. You are the best gamer I've seen!
This was fantastic! The Archives battle was awesome. Loved the part where one of the hunters was guarding the aspid arena and fire managed to sneak past them multiple times haha
This was probably the closest and most sneaky one I've seen thus far. So many times you snuck right by them and barely missed eachother, and a few times they got you so close but backed off because they didn't realize you were almost dead or because you finished them lmao.
Nice music choice this time, and also this was a super fun watch! Balance may be something to work on but this seems to have fewer intrinsic issues than normal.

Really enjoyed the addition of the sound effect for the notes! I’ve enjoyed the series since it started, but have always struggled with my attention being torn visually between this and other tasks, and not wanting to miss any information. I think they could likely stand to be turned up a bit more? Although that might be a side effect of the balancing in this video in particular- which you’ve addressed yourself. Either way, loving the changes!
I got to thank you for these videos. I played Hollow Knight 2 years ago (it's free on PS Plus), and I played for like an hour and wasn't into it at all. It wasn't compelling to me, felt boring. However this is how I started watching these videos of yours. 2 weeks ago watching you inspired me to give it another try, and damn, it really clicked with me this time. I beat the game and I am working towards 112% (just the pantheon 4 and 5 left, but my sanity wants me to take a break so I just started another run, and trying to learn my way around without a map). This game is fantastic and I'll play it for a long time, so thank you.
So I recently finished my first playthrough of Hollow Knight (still have P5 and a few speedrun achieves to get) but I started looking into some HK content and came across your channel and man, incredible content. i like how this series has instead of running out of ideas and getting repetitive, it has become more original, creative and more surprising with it's concepts every time bc i can promise you there was never a chance I would've predicted Celeste in Hollow Knight to be the twist for a Speedrunner vs Hunter until I saw the title on the notification on my phone fireb0rn & co. keeping the HK community fed once again this is peak
11:40 is actually such a big brain moment, him trying to lure any potential hunters that would ambush him in a tiny room would be super deadly in such a case.
This was a fantastic match to watch! The tense chase at Watcher's Spire, the stare down and 4v1 at the Archives, and the crazy number of times where hunter and runner happened to just miss each other by going opposite ways through a screen transition all lended a lot of excitement to this installment. :D
holy shit this is probably my favorite one so far. this was awesome!! the trolling and flexing are hilarious. this is so, so much fun to watch! i'd love to see more of these. the hunters apparently had a rough time, but i dunno how this could be balanced better. this was super fun anyway, i hope it can get even more fun for everyone!
Those are always so fun to watch, loved this one too ! GG fire, I always admire how you try finding ways to outsmart the hunters, and your gameplay is still very nice to watch. Thanks to the hunters who did a great job as well, the balance is a very hard thing to gauge and this video is no exception. I feel like audio cues are too powerfull for hunters but it did feel like they wouldn't have been too much, not sure what settings could have been changed here to make things more balanced. And big thanks to NearRing for the amazing mod, this looked so fun to play for the hunters.
A mod came out recently that makes transition glow when a player goes through them. I know a lot of the fun is when hunters just miss the speedrunner because of the transition, and it would buff the hunters, but I wonder what a game of vesselhunt would look like with it.
That was an AMAZING game, wow! It was really entertaining. Both Fireborn and the Hunters did such a good job of figuring out each other's next moves! Would definitely enjoy more of this concept!

really liked the balance in this one, information trickle to hunters was really well moderated to keep them guessing without being totally lost (except for the screen transition issues) and combat gave us so many edge of the seat moments. really could have gone either way and i love that
The amount of times you passed them as you both went through a transition from opposite sides or near misses is wild! Really fun video!
It was pretty fun watching the hunters learn on the fly, like at the beginning they were going so fast through rooms that checking them was hard, but then they learned to have more sentry outposts, very cool version of the game.
The amount of Solid Snake moments in the beginning where you were barely avoiding their sightlines was insane, actually. That was really sick.

Hey Fire. I know these are mainly challenges and not just "for fun" type of hunts. Its fun to watch but you get what I mean. But what if you combined the two gamemodes you had done before? The Hunt and the Among Us one? So youd be hunted by 4 hunters but one of them was a traitor and secretly helping you by either attacking their teammates or giving false information. You would also not know which of the hunters it would be. They could be drawing cards or something to determine which is and isnt a hunter and now none of them know either if they can trust the other. Or you can make it so they dont know from the start but I dont know how fun that would be for the runners to suddenly be backstabbed :o
Or 5 hunters but 1 is the traitor if that's possible.
It'd need to be 5 hunters, but yeah, this sounds super cool. It'd still be a challenge, too. Each of these videos tends to give the hunters some kind of advantage but then balances it out with a disadvantage. In this case, the traitor hunter could be the disadvantage they have. The advantage is 5 hunters, and maybe some other small advantage along with that, since the traitor would be slightly more of a downside than one full hunter.
Edit: Actually, thinking about it, the traitor would probably be exposed by the end, in which case they'd actually be fighting with Fire, which is a huge advantage. That means the hunters would need a pretty massive advantage. Early game the traitor would need to at least pretend to fight, though, which means Fire would still be fighting 5 hunters, which, as we saw previously, is a bit unfair, especially if they have an advantage. They'd need some kind of power that's good later game, but not as good earlier...
I really like the idea! maybe the role of treator could be assigned during the game after gating the first spell ?

I think a cool idea would be for hunters to have to get their stuff. For example, they don't get dash when you do, they have to get dash themselves. I feel like this would cause them to have to make more decisions about whether to guard something or go for movement or health. Anyway, keep up the good work!

This was probably the closest and most sneaky one I've seen thus far. So many times you snuck right by them and barely missed eachother, and a few times they got you so close but backed off because they didn't realize you were almost dead or because you finished them lmao.

Nice music choice this time, and also this was a super fun watch! Balance may be something to work on but this seems to have fewer intrinsic issues than normal.

I’ve enjoyed the series since it started, but have always struggled with my attention being torn visually between this and other tasks, and not wanting to miss any information. I think they could likely stand to be turned up a bit more? Although that might be a side effect of the balancing in this video in particular- which you’ve addressed yourself. I got to thank you for these videos. I played Hollow Knight 2 years ago (it's free on PS Plus), and I played for like an hour and wasn't into it at all. It wasn't compelling to me, felt boring. However this is how I started watching these videos of yours. 2 weeks ago watching you inspired me to give it another try, and damn, it really clicked with me this time. I beat the game and I am working towards 112% (just the pantheon 4 and 5 left, but my sanity wants me to take a break so I just started another run, and trying to learn my way around without a map). This game is fantastic and I'll play it for a long time, so thank you.

The tense chase at Watcher's Spire, the stare down and 4v1 at the Archives, and the crazy number of times where hunter and runner happened to just miss each other by going opposite ways through a screen transition all lended a lot of excitement to this installment. :D

Those are always so fun to watch, loved this one too ! GG fire, I always admire how you try finding ways to outsmart the hunters, and your gameplay is still very nice to watch. Thanks to the hunters who did a great job as well, the balance is a very hard thing to gauge and this video is no exception. I feel like audio cues are too powerfull for hunters but it did feel like they wouldn't have been too much, not sure what settings could have been changed here to make things more balanced. And big thanks to NearRing for the amazing mod, this looked so fun to play for the hunters.
A mod came out recently that makes transition glow when a player goes through them. I know a lot of the fun is when hunters just miss the speedrunner because of the transition, and it would buff the hunters, but I wonder what a game of vesselhunt would look like with it.
