What does the Graffiti in Tarkov Mean? | Woods

- Decided to try out a new series where I explain some of the graffiti and Russian slogans you see spray-painted on surfaces throughout Tarkov. I thought I'd do it on a map-by-map basis and start with Woods. This is not an exhaustive list of every piece of Russian graffiti in each map but I tried to cover the obvious ones. If you have ones you've seen that I didn't cover and you're curious about, shout them out in the comments!

Hello, i am from Russia and i can say it is interesting to see how foreign man translate our words with their meanings. Please, don’t stop, there are many other graffitis which will be interesting for others!

Not really a criticism, just wanted to give some interesting info.
At 2:05 in UNTAR GO НАХЕР they use the word "хер" as a direction via the prefix, but often "хер" is used as a noun, which means penis in a rude, but generally not profane way. There is also "хуй", which is a more harsh word for a penis, which is always a swear word, which you can also use directionally "нахуй". So, considering that "хер" is less profane, I would've said that "Go нахер" is more like "go screw yourself" while "Go нахуй" is "go fuck yourself".
But overall, great video as always, keep 'em coming. Even as a native speaker I've learned a lot! You ever thought about doing something for BEAR? They're not as reference-heavy, as scavs, but there're definately some gems.
Lastly, would love to hear more of you in the vids, maybe you could explain some usage cases and interesting grammar?
This is totally accurate, and I get that хер is a less profane stand-in for хуй, but you're right, I should have reflected that "toning down" in the English version. I appreciate the feedback very much! And yeah I really want to do the BEAR lines, just need to find time... and also I appreciate the suggestion that I should talk more and maybe explain usage and grammar. That would be fun for me and hopefully interesting for viewers.

After an "You were born a original don't die a copy" there is a one more red color lettering (someone was added it) which says "I am (dead) already"
thank you for doing this, man! Ppl that dont know Russian miss out on a lot of the undertones and "feel", Tarkov's subtle ironies etc and can never value the entirety of Tarkov or BSGs effort. Whats unintelligible is tossed out as jumble or trash, but its oh so rich. Amazing effort =)
1:27 It is more correct to translate "Держись" as "hold on". In this context this verb means not hanging on something, but staying in good mood. If you see a person, that is in bad situation, you tell him "держись!" to cheer him up.
Awesome vids, the idea of translating this stuff so it would be clear to non russian speaking people is very good, because it is such cultural stuff that contributes enormously to Tarkov atmospere.

Honestly, Tarkov gets really weird to me when I realize that if I were to play as a BEAR PMC and also during all scav runs, I'm essentially playing as a functionally illiterate and aphasic person. Despite the fact that my character speaks Russian natively, I, the player, do not. I personally can sound out the Cyrillic alphabet thanks to literally half a semester of Russian in college but I am utterly lost beyond "hello, how are you, I am well, my name is" etc.
I always thought it would be neat if all Cyrillic writing turned into whatever your game's localization language is set to while playing as a BEAR, especially on the in game maps that I don't think anyone actually uses. But that'd be a massive undertaking, especially since if you ran it through a machine translation things would get weird very fast. Especially since we players pick up on the important ones like "sniper" and "minefield" pretty damn quick.
"не страшно" is more like "don't you scared/fear?", but "are you scared" is ok too
Graffiti lines as "ass" and "dick" is kinda Russian meme. Nobody knows why and when it started, but these two words have to be written on the wall. There is a joke about it: saw a sign "dick" on a fence, looked over the fence, but there was only firewood

interesting fact that "goodbye homeland" is a reference and an accurate copy of the words written on the walls of the Brest fortress in Belarus in the 1941 by the soviet soldier who fought till the last bullet and whrote this.

In Russia we say "We have 2 languages - usual russian language and filthy russian language". And it's great that you learned both of them so good. Because I can't imagine how hard it is to explain to someone the difference between ахуенно (fucking great) and хуево (fucking bad), both words have the same root хуй (dick). And there is a lot of examples like that...

"Прощай Родина" is a reference to the inscription made by Red army soldiers making their last stand in the Brest fortress during the Great Patriotic war. The full inscription said "I'm dying, but I'm not surrendering, farewell Homeland!"

2:54 I'd like to translate "блять" as "oh fuck/oh shit (choose the most rude here)", it originates from "блядь" - a whore, but changes its end to "ть" when it means something else
3:02 it's calling someone a whore(сука), with "блять" increasing your disrespect
"Блядь" overall is a very hard world to describe, it's usually just a curse word without its own meaning, used just to sound more rude without adding anything, marginal people usually put it between random world in their phrase without changing the phase's meaning at all
Yeah for sure, it's hard to explain all the nuances of using блядь in common parlance. I am a native English speaker but I've gotten to the point where if I stub my toe or something I will automatically exclaim блядь instead of anything in English.
I hope you're getting back into making more russian language videos even if it's outside of escape from tarkov. Maybe command and conquer or stalker or whatever else you think.

The hidden Blyat is a reference to something as well, a famous quote by J.D. Salinger: “That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "F@#$ you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "F@#$ you." I'm positive, in fact.”
I never made that connection though I remember that quote from the book. I love that. Thank you for giving me the gift of a link between Holden Caulfield (one of my favorite characters in literature) and Tarkov.

Then why do we have the word тупик
@@talentedchip2124 in this paticular situation it is similar to the word "тупик". There could be several meanings to that utterance on the wall. One is that the road is blocked by an obstacle and there is no way of passing through. The other is when there is a checkpoint and it is not allowed to enter it. I can't say for the US, but in Russia seeing "You shall not pass!" whilst entering a checkpoint would be very odd.
