The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Tyler Myers.

He had a fine year. It looked like he simplified his game and the gaffe rate plummeted. He was very effective. If we get that Myers for the next 3 years love this signing.
Hopefully Tochett had an influence for his change. 2years ago people would have brought the nooses for the gm.

I'd rather they just sign a cheaper alternatative. Petterson is being paid enough that he should not need a guy like that to succeed.
Worst case scenario just put him on the lotto line or with Garland and Joshua.
They need to still sign Silovs (who may get an offer sheet), and hopefully Zadorov. Signing Geuntzel handcuffs them. And is a risky contract.

I think they’re now out on Guentzel. They’ll probably pursue someone like Skinner or another 2nd tier winger for Pettersson and try to lock up Zadorov. Rumour has it they also want DeSmith back, which suggests that Demko could be a long term issue.
I'm not a huge fan of signing Guentzel to a massive contract anyways. It will hurt this teams depth and who knows how that contract will age.
I'd rather they go bargain hunting for someone else.
Yeah with this signing it takes them out of the guentzel sweepstakes. Realistically to sign guentzel you're looking at 11-12 a year probably. Vancouver's team tax rate is 47%. Guentzels asking for 9-9.5 outta Carolina and their tax rate I think is 37%
I think it's a great contract. Myers was actually pretty good this year

Myers can surely crash the net and battle in the blue paint. He can also cause havoc anywhere on the ice and block shots with his life on the line. 3Mx3 is almost an underpayment, but he provides depth and veteran experience, even if he qges poorly by the 3rd year of the contract. This gives the young D prospects to further develop and be ready to take over.
ye I was saying all year Myers was worth keeping. Gonchar and Foote really helped him turn his game around. Now so out on Gentz most likely BUT Skinner and maybe Taffoli or simialr looks more likely

It is always about what do you bring to the team for the money. Myers outscored Big Z in the regular season but not the playoffs. You get paid for what you do in the regular season and not the playoffs. The playoffs are what lures managers into the bad contracts. I really like how Big Z fit in with the Canucks but he is about to get disappointed with what he will be offered on July 1. Same thing with Lindy, they are about to find out the July 1 lottery doesn't always work out the way you think. Big Z is worth what he was being paid this year and not more. Sad reality and Rutherford clearly knows what he is doing. Allvin is just the front man, learning from the old pro.
We should have signed Myers for 2.5m. How do we sign Guantzel now?
It would have been great to have every contract half a million cheaper. Not that easy. Alvin has got bellow market on all of his signings.

If Peterson needs a guy like Guentzel to score then this team is in trouble.
Petterson shouldn't need a guy of that calibre to be successful given his contract.
A compromise should be made to help the teams overall depth.
They still need to sign Silovs as well who may get an offer sheet. That situation has me worried.
