This musical made me want to hear more from Jon...and I don't even really like musicals. I saw Rent in the movie theater and immediately bought the soundtrack. I'm currently searching for "Superbia" or any performance of it.
I think what’s inspiring to me about Tick Tick Boom and Jon’s story in general is that it doesn’t have to just apply to artists. Anyone with a dream or aspiration that feels like the world is telling them to give up on can find hope from Jon’s story
That's the reason I cried during the movie. I've been told that I have to be a certain age to chase my dream; choosing a more "realistic" career to sustain a decent livelihood. Jonathan Larson’s story resonate with me so much on not giving up on what we love mostly / what makes us happy.
As a struggling artists, I can really connect to the life of Jonathan. There's so much sacrifice you have to make, to make your dream come true. Also taught me alot about consequences and decisions. Andrew nailed this too. Hope this film gets alot of acknowledgement and hopefully an Oscar for Andrew.
What breaks my heart is that Jonathan was obsessed with his age and felt like he was running out of time and he died so young, like in a way he was right :(

This movie is literally the greatest thing I have seen in YEARS. Lin-Manuel and Jonathan Larson are a match made in heaven, and I am so glad I am alive to experience it ❤️
Is there anything negative that could be said about this film? Lin’s storytelling of Jonathan Larson is inspiring and heartfelt. Andrew Garfield’s portrayal was amazing. Every voice perfectly sang all of this amazing music that a new generation can now appreciate. Thank you, Jonathan Larson for your incredible musical genius and thank you, Lin Manuel Miranda for sharing his story with us in such a beautiful way.
Thank you, Jonathan Larson ❤️❤️ It's made me a little sad, the last few years, that more and more young theater kids seem to not necessarily have the same connection to RENT as I and other millennials did growing up, but it genuinely cannot be overstated, the degree to which Jonathan changed the entire landscape of musical theater. And it makes me aaaall kinds of emotional that Lin, who has basically taken up the mantel of being the Jonathan Larson of this generation, was the one to take the helm in telling his story with all the grace and love it deserved :') (And Andrew could not have embodied him more perfectly either! Larson is a hero of mine and I was weeping for hours after the credits rolled. Truly a love letter to art and artists, a bit of magic in a culture that has lost all appreciation for creativity.
i’d love to see that! I read another comment that said Superbia went through so many re-writes when Jonathan was alive that it would be a mammoth task to try to finish it the way Jonathan would have wanted. Apparently people tried years ago but it went nowhere.
I literally just got done watching the movie over an hour ago. God i can't believe it took me nine months to do it. The movie is beautifully intimate, compelling, gripping and bittersweet. Andrew has got strong vocals! As a 29 year old musical theatre geek, Seasons of Love was one of the first showtunes i already loved before seeing the musical it came from. It took me until the 20th Anniversary Tour that i finally considered myself a Rent Head. Back in high school, i didn't feel ready to understand and embrace what made Rent a modern musical classic. And I've been a Lin stan since the original stage version of In the Heights. His direction is masterful for his first time behind the camera. Larson would be proud to see how his work changed the American musical forever.

I wish my brother had had seen Rent. He committed suicide in 1980. He wrote in his note he was questioning his sexuality. The world was a different place where people were “in the closet.” He wrote he didn’t know if he would accepted for his identity. Scott has gone 42 years now and I still miss him. Jonathon Larson and his play Rent opened my mind to love is love. Jonathon had passed by the time I saw Rent. His message continues to bring awareness to the world.
