It’s upsetting, almost enraging, that he died the night before what would be the culmination of all his years of hard work. That’s the ultimate curse, to work tirelessly for something and then never get to see its impact in the world.
@@Ms-k1989 I just listened to the honestly haunting recording of him singing One Song Glory and it was like he knew and accepted it. I didn’t see Rent until I was 16 and it’s message falls like a mourning veil and my high school sweetheart at the time told me he was in his kitchen making tea and he didn’t even feel pain. The sort of thing that makes you count your footsteps or your breath. As if his work on this planet was done and he was ok with “come what may.” It’s hard to tell where bitter ends and sweet begins until we make the choice to observe and if only we could know what ripple effect we truly have. I express myself on my channel so whatever sharpens making every second count... I hope it makes any positive experience difference to you as well.
It brought the cast, friends, family comfort to know that he saw the final rehearsal just as it would be performed and he was told (by industry folks) that Rent was a hit… so he knew. It seems like he had always known but it was confirmed the day before. Still sucks though.
I watched Netflix’s film about Jonathan Larson’s last night and it reminded and awakened something so wonderful about life. What a gift, what a talent we should never forget!!

‘what is a legacy? it’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see. I wrote some notes at the beginning of a song someone will sing for me.’ This line from Hamilton always reminds me of Jonathan and his impact he left upon the world. Without him, we’d never have so many other beautiful musicals, people’s stories would never be told. Jonathan Larson never got to see what impact he had on this world. But we all feel it.
"America you great unfinished symphony you sent for me" I loveee this song! And you're right the words perfectly capture what Jonathan did for musical theatre. Heart breaking

Tick Tick Boom is pretty much an autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson and Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to direct a film adaptation of it for Netflix!
This musical literally changed my life at a point when I didn't feel seen. Rent showed people my age living and loving. Jonathan Larsen gave my emotions words. Thank you eternally.
Just saw tick tick boom and omg what a legacy he left behind I’m already recommending it to all my friends it’s gonna be such a beautiful moment when it finally releases to everyone
I came across this video today. It brought a tear to my eyes and a smile on my face. I started reading Anthony Rapp’s book yesterday. I would have loved to see RENT on Broadway with the OBC! The show has always been in my heart and always will be!!!
When I visited NYC for the first time in 2010, one of the stops that i just HAD to go to was the real Life Cafe where jonathan had written a lot of Rent. The renthead wall was this shelf with 20 or 30 binders on it, all of them full of notes and tributes from the Rentheads who had come before me. I got to leave my mark, and I'm glad I did because it's not there anymore. It's gone. Jonathan Larson is one of my heroes and I will never be able to thank him enough for the character of Angel. Rent helped me discover who I was as a transgender man, and I owe so much to it.
no it does not. By now, if it does come back, it should be heavily updated as this show yes was important for LGBTQ+ etc back in the day, but right now, it wouldn't work at all
Thank you Jonathan Larson for making rent such a good musical rip Jonathan Larson end angel from Rent thank you rent for changing my life I really appreciate the music and the acting so keep doing what you're doing
having watched tick tick boom too many times to count because i am amazed by andrew garfield’s portrayal of jon. seeing videos of jonathan on youtube, they casted andrew so well, from his mannerisms to just his movement in general. my heart goes out to julie larson, since she is the last standing larson, she is an amazing woman who even helped with the film. rip jonathan larson, you are a legend for ever.
It’s not just sexuality that isn’t controlled, it’s the energy of purity. My high school sweetheart who introduced me to this movie wouldn’t tell me she was struggling with her sexuality and I blamed myself until I found out through friends that time was just too precious to risk making me unhappy and she learned that from this. Nowadays I have forgiven and try to make every second of every expressive video on my channel count. I hope my energy makes a similar difference for you, friend.
I've heard of rent on Broadway way back in 96 and in middle school my choir class sang season of love and loved it ever since and bought the dvd version memorized every line and learn lines in french
Talk about unfair! I just pray that he was able to see how loved and respected his story was and still is! It’s beautiful and sad and heartbreaking and I hope he was able to take comfort in the way the whole show came out!!RIP Jonathan !

Rent was very controversial when it opened on Broadway because it gave a human face to taboo subjects people didn't want to talk about like AIDS, drugs, homosexuality, Homelessness, etc. Things that real people faced and could relate to. 20 years later they are now able to perform Rent on National Network TV and actually talk about these subjects without the stigma. Rent has done a lot more to help society more than you have Im sure.
try to do a play that talks about everything that you just said but you have to do it in a way that makes sense can you please just let rent be what it has to be and help people that actually relate to it?
also, entertainment is the only form of education that enters some people's mind, so yes, when something that talks about an important subject for society gets attention, it is more than entertainment

This comment just demolished me.
I was so relieved to hear when he said that Johnathan had been happy. At least he died knowing that he had achieved his dream.
It is eerily prophetic listening to Jonathan sing One Song Glory like he knew and accepted it and this story reminds you to make every second count.

I wonder if Lin-Manuel had Jonathan Larson in mind when he wrote that line.

Rent is life changing. I'm so grateful we get to know this story.
Jonathan Larson's life deserves a bio pic with the behind scenes of the workshop, rehearsals of RENT before The Show's Preview
