He comes across as a very genuine, kind, gentle person. A human being. Someone who is aware of their privilege and influence, and uses it for good. Increasingly, and particularly in Hollywood, that's a rare thing. Keanu has a similar energy.

Just wanted to say I really liked the way Colbert handled Garfield's answer on his grief. Looked him in the eyes, thanked him for sharing, held his hand with both his own. And that's enough, because the pain they feel is their own, and you are not there to say you know it, because you don't. You only have to show that you are listening, that you are there for them. Brilliant.

The conversations end, but your father is woven into the fibres of your being, so you can't lose him. Even when his influence on you ripples out to others around you. And then in turn, to those people who pass on some of his essence to effect more people, and so on... The emptiness of loss of the relationship is the contrasting shadow that highlights all those bright moments that you have gained in your years of knowing him. And those memories, his love for you, are yours to keep; the smile through your tears for those personal precious moments. Even as the powerful waves of grief lessen, you can smile that secret smile of knowing, with gratitude for such a man, such a father, as part of your life, and part of who you are.

He had me crying because I think I my beautiful mother who has read the Bible twice in her life. When she started getting to the point she knew she wouldn't be here to many years ahead was when she read the Bible a second time. She knew every word and meaning in the Bible with a 6th grade education and I can hardly pronounce many of words and the understanding with a full course education. My grandfather taught himself how to read and studied the Bible and taught this to his kids. He never went to school and was a brilliant person in reading and writing. He read many different books on religion and listened to tapes of a well known person who studied the Bible. I wish my grandfather were here to speak to people about what he learned because we would all believe in God and know he really exist. I believe Andrew is a Christian and by this his pain from losing his mother gives him hope that he will see her again in God's time to call us home.

I lost a beloved pet of almost 16 years, and I fight daily to remember the good times and not cry. It's not the passing that is bad, but it's the missing her daily that is what hurts. So, again, Grief reminds me that we all only get so long here.

Some days aré better AND others justo, a deep hole in your stomach.. its incredible..that he isnt with us anymore. I didn't know he lost his mother. What a wonderful expression he's found in saying that grief is the unexpressed love that stays behind.

Ended up shedding a few tears at this. Obviously this is still very raw for Andrew but he has such an articulate way of describing his grief. I'm sure his mother was very proud of him, and I really hope he gets all the recognition he deserves for this film.

Andrew has a real heart and it shines through in all of his roles. I can’t speak for the deceased but I can say with confidence his mom must be proud of him and was blessed to have a family like theirs.

Andrew is a gem. A true poet with his words. He is a wonderful and genuine soul and I can feel his deep passionate towards his art form. He’s such an amazing person and really a once in a lifetime kind of guy. LOVE THIS MAN.

Man the way Andrew said in his interview with Stephen Colbert: “Jon and my Mother were both artists and they were warriors of art and they knew the power of leaving the world in a slightly more beautiful state than when they found it” makes this video hit even more in the feels

i still tear up watching this magnificent man speaking about his grief. Stephen, himself, had experienced tragic grief in his early years, losing his father and 2 brothers in a plane crash. The empathy Stephen exhibits is extraordinary.

Never mind his profession, one of the most gorgeous souls I have ever met. Very kind, deep, honest and so well grounded. You cannot say a single bad thing about Andrew. Well you can, and then I will find you and make sure you reframe from being mean to someone that does not deserve ignorant banter

The most beautiful quality in a person is tenderness.
Andrew seems to be a delightfully sensitive man, untarnished by fame, success and ego. This is so rare..

One day, even if it is 10yrs from now, Andrew Garfield will be seen as one of the greatest actors in modern history of cinema.

This is a moment of rare connection: raw emotions laid bare, listeners hanging on to his every word, sharing in his grief. Like Andrew says, art truly “sews up the wounds.” His portrayal of Jonathan Larson in TTB was magnificent. What a talented actor and beautiful soul.

Andrew Garfield pointing directly at Stephen and Jon saying "You sow up our wounds" is among the most powerful, necessary, and fulfilling gems in late night history. Because it encapsulates the very essence of what makes Late Night so successful and admired. Comedy is a release. It's an escape. And what Stephen and Andrew does in their own respective arts has literally sown up millions of wounds across the world. What a time to be alive. 💙

I told my Mom every time I spoke with her how much I love her. I guess I still have lots of unexpressed love because I cry every time her name comes up. Love you Mom and thank you Andrew Garfield for this beautiful take on grief!

i've followed andrew for almost 7 years and what i love the most about him other than his acting is the way he expresses himself, he has a beautiful way around words that i find fascinating. him expressing like that about his mom made me tear up and remember my own grief, and he is exactly right, grief is unexpressed love. i really hope him and his family can heal from this and he can keep celebrating his mom in the best way he can
