  • First time hearing band maid black hole reaction (live version) with analysis and in-depth breakdown from a professional musician. Aside from having my mind blown by these all female Japanese rock band, we learn about some of the music theory elements. Some insane cross rhythms, which as a guitarist is really fun to try to figure out. I have to say even as a guitar tutor, this had me stumped on first listen, in hindsight it reminded me a wee bit of the Mars Volta, am I alone in that?? Perhaps, not my best analysed band-maid track, but you can probably understand why!
Yeah, so alongside the standard reacts format, there's also a lesson explain and analysing the manic intro focusing on how the parts melt together. Being a multi-instrumental limited to things with strings, I've programmed drums so hopefully we can better analyse and understand this song!

They usually have a "crying section" in the middle, to give respite to the listeners 😁 This time, on the Day of Maid, it was short, though, only "about Us." And Wonderland before it as a segue to it.
But The Day of Maid OKYUJI was really dedicated to Unseen World. They have played 12 songs from it, plus "about Us," which may be considered like "a missing ballad" from that album. Unseen World contains 13 songs in total. So, they have skipped only Giovanni. They have even played Youth, which was included only in the De Lux edition of Unseen World, and is missing from Spotify.
That was a relentless setlist, no doubt. They were on fire that day. During the previous OKUJI, on February 11, they looked tired, and Saiki and Miku had difficulty singing at times.

You broke that down really well. I really like that lead riff at the slower tempo. A cool slower tempo song could be written around that.
Kanami stated in a recent interview that she no longer takes Miku's current skill level into consideration when writing guitar parts. She has confidence Miku can play whatever she comes up with. Kanami actually wrote an instrumental called Don't Be Long as a practice piece to get Miku prepared to play their song Different. The instrumental was released as the B side to their Different single and is really good. The Different MV might be a good candidate for a future video. It's also fast tempo and a bit chaotic. It was written specifically as an anime intro.

Love how the lyrics of BLACK HOLE paint a picture of real Black Holes with references to space distortion, a black void beyond the realms of light, time being stretched out and the shimmering and shining that could be Hawking radiation emitted from an event horizon AND at the same time they also describe an unrewarding relationship that sucks you in relentlessly your existence and meaning being obliterated as you wish some special moment could be stretched for eternity. Miku even took the bother to look up how deep you have to go in space to find evidence for a black hole. Cool. Double cool.

I'm not saying that US, UK, Germany or the rest of the world music scene is bad. But now they are direct themselves to be more mainstream which cause them to lost their stand point/charm.

Thanks for another of your awesome Band-Maid breakdowns, Jack! 4:10 - I think we all love your infectious laugh. I grew up in the 1960's in a home with a HiFi, as my parents called it. I haven't heard their term used in decades. Now I'm wondering just how old you are. Same video, you also said SciFi. Was hoping to hear WiFi for the trifecta.
You said never underestimate sound of bass playing one note with drums, and in your prior video of "Manners", you mentioned how MISA's bass tone with her Orange head and cabs sounds so good. Reminds me of something the legendary Ray Brown once said. Although both he and MISA are known for their insane bass-slapping abilities, Brown said the number 1 thing a bass-player can do is provide a great sound, even if it's only one repeated note. From your statements, MISA clearly accomplished that. One of the many reasons why I dubbed her as the Ray Brown of her generation.
Lastly, loved at the end that you mentioned the Spanish riff. I've noticed that since the first time I heard it, but you're the first reactor to say it out loud. So kudos for that.

Rabbi, HiFi and phonograph. Yeah, that's what I grew up with. My parents had a HiFi console.
Seems like we both grew up with a jazz influence, even if rock and RnB were major impacts. For me, on bass, it was more Ron Carter, and I can hear his melodic playing and timing in MISA, as well.

    • @Rabbi_Rabbs
      @Rabbi_Rabbs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@jjo154 Phonograph! LOL! Yeah, my parents had that. And, yeah, their HiFi blasted jazz.
I grew up listening to and playing jazz instruments, and going to big-band concerts. I remember going to hear a jazz band as early as age 5. I might've gone before that too, but I don't remember it. But, as a teen, I went with my friends to rock concerts. Haha. Sounds like you shared some of those experiences, too. :-)
As for MISA, yeah, she is a throwback to the greats before her, such as Carter who you mentioned, and he is a boss.
Her bass tone, Jack isn't the only reactor to praise it. I've heard Tank The Tech and Wave Potter, each of whom plays bass, guys who listen to a lot of bassists, out of nowhere they have each remarked on how great her tone is. Black Cloud and Orange need to make MISA the face of their brands. I wrote to Orange, requesting that they give more love on their web site to her.

@@Rabbi_Rabbs Both of my drum teachers were huge jazz fans, but unfortunately I bombed out on that due to my parents making me choose between drums or football. I chose the worse, lol. I still love all forms of music, though.
When I walked in to my first lesson (age 13), my teacher pointed to a poster on the wall of his studio and asked me if I knew who it was. I had no idea, and he told me it was Elvin Jones and that he was the greatest drummer in the world. From then on, I would find out about Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Joe Morello, Tony Williams, etc.
MISA brings to mind Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Alphonso Johnson, Paul Jackson, Les Claypool, and Flea to me, while being her own self, and that's saying something.

I believe this song was written in response to them asking DragonForce what their fastest song was in terms of BPM. Miku has progressed to the point where reportedly (per Gary, anyway) Kanami has determined that she's ready to do a real solo. MISA and Akane seem to have a telepathic rapport that is unreal.

I took regular lessons, read Guitar Player religiously, studied music theory in school, and went to see big arena acts like Rush along with punk acts like The Clash. When Agnew started muting the 5th in the 1-5-8 power chord it was a unique sound, and became associated with the pop side of the genre via the Orange County CA bands he played with (like DI and Social Distortion).
