I love Manners, but I actually prefer Black Hole here. That controlled chaos is great and it's the contrast of the two songs here back to back that really makes it work for me. You get the two sides of Band Maid in one video.
It took me a while to get my head around "Black Hole" but now I love it! I think it's actually genius. It sounds like what it is about, plus the individual instrumentation is absolutely incredible. Like I said, it took a few listens just to catch what was happening!
That's the genius of Black Hole , it sounds exactly as you would expect a song called Black Hole to sound but then they are good at that -Daydreaming is another one. It took me about 20 seconds into the first listen to get it, maybe it's because I listened to a lot of Jazz and Prog rock in my youth but I didn't find it at all chaotic in the unstructured sense , only in the feel of the song.
perhaps only genius people get the genius of the track right away 😆 I think I had the benefit of hearing the album version first, where all the sound levels, and synching, would be exactly as the ladies wanted them to be. But the live version still kicks ass. Perhaps @Cheezyxyz was playing a risky game of negging the track to get lots of us commenting to defend it, thus driving up his algorithm place?
I'm a blues guy, so groovy, bluesy Manners is my favorite Band Maid song. It invites the listener in. Put your feet up, get comfortable. Black Hole challenges the listener. It DARES you to make sense of it. It took many listens for my brain to pick out how each instrument supports the others to create a whirling, chaotic Black Hole of sound. My interpretation of this song is that it's about obsession/addiction - that thing in your life that draws you in, puts you in it's orbit, and won't let go. You know it's dangerous, but your whirling chaotic thoughts and emotions won't let you stop and think. You just want to go to the center. But then you're close, so close, time stops. A moment is like an eternity. Nothing exists but the attraction, unimaginable space distortion. Are you ready? Let's go. La lalala lalala lalalala. It took me a while to get. It's not an easy song to listen to or make sense of. And that's the point. It sounds like what it's about. It's brilliant.
I thought the same about "Black Hole" when I first heard it (this live version). "Different" was the same for me, both too chaotic. After hearing both songs a few times they sounded better and better. "Black Hole" is one of my favorites now. I think because there's so much going on it takes a few listens to make sense of it. The Maids are so far ahead of us in some cases it takes a while for us to catch up.
Another great reaction! 🤘😎🤘The first time I heard "Black Hole", after it ended I thought WTF just happened? I was a little stunned and definitely confused. It was a chaotic highspeed sonic assault on my ears. I wasn't sure about it. I listened to the "Unseen World" album a few more times and something just clicked, my brain seemed to sort it all out and now "Black Hole" is my favorite track off the album. "Manners" is right there with it. "Manners" has become one of my all-time favorite groovy, bluesy, "Classic Rock" style songs.
My initial reaction was the same, bur listen to BLACK HOLE five or ten more times and you will agree that it is absolutely brilliant. BAND-MAID set the bar for challengers very high with this one.
2 completely different songs, both performed BRILLIANTLY! There truly is nothing BAND-MAID cannot do! (Except, perhaps, make a bad song!) Thanks again!🤘🤩🤘
The MV for Manners is excellent too. Black Hole is a composition of Kanami's that is very complex and very fast too - 220 BPM for that final flourish! She asked the other band members just how fast they could play and then presented them with her score as a bit of a challenge. Some find it all too much but I'd recommend picking out any one of the instruments - including Saiki's voice - and listen to it and hear the complexity involved. Then sit and wonder how Kanami managed to intertwine all those hard and fast and intricate pieces into one incredible whole (clue: she's a genius maestro!
Black hole, like others have mentioned, takes multiple listens to get a real grasp on. It such a dense songs and so fast that it’s almost impossible to understand it in one listen. It also helps to listen to the instrumental version from the songbook, if you can find a version of that.
11:17 in the beginning of the second verse, each singer sings different lyrics (8:55) so everyone does different things at some point in the song. The music matches the lyrics and I think that "BLACK HOLE" is a masterpiece. Actually, it's in my top 3 songs from "Unseen World" album, while "Manners" is at the bottom. Not that it's a bad song, on the contrary, it's a very good song. But it's the kind of song you already heard a hundred of times even if Kanami puts a BAND-MAID extra sauce in it 🎸👩🏻🍳
As many others have stated "Black Hole" is too much to take in on your initial listen. Your pause and look into the camera with the "What the-?" face said it all. Once you figure out what is happening in the song it will grow on you. It's just another in a long line of Kanami Genius songs. That being said "Manners" is one of my favorite Band-Maid songs. It flows over and through you with its groove. "Our rock never dies ever. Forever" is a prophetic statement that will prove more true as time passes. Best band in the world. Thanks for the reaction. Peace
Haha! TOTALLY get where you're coming from. "Manners" is that slow burn, groovy track that immediately resonates. Frankly, one of the best pure rock songs I've ever heard. When I first was assaulted by "Black Hole", I literally thought it was a "see what we can do?", filler track to close out the Unseen World album. Then, I saw this video and could not BELIEVE The Maids could pull it off live. Since, "Black Hole" has become a favorite. Weird. Thanks Cheezyxyx! 🕊
Black hole require some additional listening. It is a masterpiece imho but I don't expect anyone to think that way at first listen. Give it some more chances, there is really some interesting thinking about its structure within the "chaos". Manners is the first song that made me discover Band Maid and it has a special place in my heart and I also love that groove (I think of the album version/MV as having too much compaction, this live version is its true representation, but it is still fantastic.) Black hole is the last song on Unseen World, it is so fast I figure it is difficult to play it any other way than as written, so I would say this version is fairly close to the album version.
@@NibsUK2121 Rather it is Spotify categorization. Actually, I can't find Without holding back at all on Spotify, which makes me missing something, and makes me think it is limited to physical release to give something extra, which is fine. Anyway, the point was where to find Black Hole: it is at the later part of the album in question.
@@andersmorell5396 cheers for the info. Aw, I'd feel swindled to not get Without Holding Back on Spotify (I don't use that platform, I'm a dinosaur stuck working at home using ecology-damaging plastic CDs and feeling back about that). Having both that track *and* Black Hole at the end of the CD really gets the blood pumping.
From Japan Many of BAND-MAID's songs match the timing while listening to each other's performances. On the other hand, in Black Hole, everyone starts at once and runs separately from each other. It's the kind of song that is in perfect harmony when they're running. Among the songs they intentionally create chaos is the hard rock masterpiece Different.
Two awesome songs back to back, that couldn't be more different than one another - the maids in a nutshell. Not surprising that you felt that way about Black Hole. So did I for about the first 20 listens, and I like crazy stuff!! Yes it's chaos - but let's just say that it starts to make sense if you listen to it enough. It's not perfectly performed here (it's a crazy hard song to play), but it's pretty darned accurate considering the skill level. Think of yourself as being helpless while being sucked into a black hole. One of the things I love about the maids is that they are not in the least bit afraid to write songs that push their skills to the utmost. Anyway, you may never like this song, but if you wanna, listen to it some more using the studio version. Giovanni is another song that is really crazy and I love - love - LOVE - Giovanni!!!
Manners is a top 5 band maid song for me and I can listen to it forever. I appreciate Blackhole and it’s grown a lot on me. I do think it’s great, but it’s purposefully jarring to listen to, and I’m not always in the mood for it. I think if you listen to it a few more times you’ll enjoy it more, that’s how it worked for me anyway. But yeah, Manners kicks ass. As far as next songs go… moratorium official live if you can find it, it’s also top 5, you’ll dig it. If not, Warning MV is great too
Enjoyed your honest thoughts. Agree with what others have said about Black Hole. Does take multiple listens. What helped me was focusing on the lyrics while listening to the song. The lyrics and the music are a great fit. If it is possible to musically convey a Black Hole then they have done it. If you like groove rock then check out Bubble. Secret My Lips is also one I think you would enjoy. I also noticed you haven't done Play Live. It is from same show as Domination and Freedom. Killer track. There are also videos of Wonderland and Choose Me from that same show and they are excellent as well.
These two songs back to back are quite the contrast. Groovy, bluesy rock and then crazy paced at first seemingly all over the place. But after you listen to it a few times it all slows down and you can hear the brilliance. Also, it is a song about a black hole... makes sense to have that first impression. Thanks for the reaction!
I have listened to Black Hole numerous times and I still do not hear the brilliance. Of course, i am not a musician so that may have a lot to do with it. what I loved about all Band Maid songs, until a few songs on Unseen World, was how each song was definitely new but on the very first listen I felt like it was a song I had already heard 100 times.
A week from now you will be doing something and a snippet of "Blackhole" will pop into your minds ear.... It's uncanny but little by little you will realise the genius of the chaos. The acoustic of Manners was a completely different feel with just Kanami on acoustic guitar and backing vocals with Saiki carrying the main melody and groove of the song.
I say this every time. Black Hole is a mind F on first listen for everyone. It does come together with additional listenings, and though it's not one of my favorite songs of theirs, I do enjoy it. After awhile you realize it's NOT chaos, that it's planned to sound like that. It's a challenge song, them saying, "When we want to just blitzkreig your senses, we can. Can you keep up?"
I'm glad to find someone, who had the exactly same impression I had. Loved the Manners. Surprised and get confused by the Blackhole. However, after a couple of listening, you'd find yourself addicted to that 'Organized Chaos', like me. Also, I guarantee you that you'd find tons of funky, groovy hard rock track along your Band-Maid journey. Thanx for sharing!
A day that starts with me hearing MISA the mistress of thunder is a good one. In my opinion a strong rhythm section is the base of a good band, and Akane and MISA certainly deliver. Black Hole isn't my favourite (it sounds a bit like they're playing different songs at the same time), but I guess a real black hole would be chaotic 😄
So this is my first time hearing both Manners and Black Hole as well. And IMHO I believe BM were going for a yin yang scenario here. If you think about it, Manners was completely lock step in the groove with everyone playing off each other. Whereas in Black Hole, as you said, was complete chaos. Yin and yang.
I love Black Hole. In my mind, I'm the black hole and the chaotic music is the result of all these different sounds being sucked in and orbiting around me, Plus, it's FAST! Listen to Akane on those drums.
At the centre of Black Hole is chaos - and in that chaos is order which strives to be made and heard. It is a challenging song which takes repeated listening before order coalesces out of disorder. Drums, bass, guitar, and vocals all have their own lines and intersect at points to turn it into a recognizable song. And it is very, very fast. Black Hole is like thrash jazz fusion ... an entirely new thing.
These are my 2 favorite songs off Unseen World I love Manners for that groovy feeling that Misa and Akane lay down, and Black Hole is just a wild ride through a black hole of controlled chaos. Give Black Hole a chance it really is a masterpiece.
Black Hole will grow on you. You may find yourself thinking of it when you don't expect to. The more you listen to it the more it makes sense until you realize the hard work that went into it. It really is a wonderful song.
WARNING! (maybe your next song?) It's bad MANNERS to stop listening to Band-Maid because you'll feel starved for musical excellence and joy and fall into a BLACK HOLE of emptiness... probably! 😵 Thx, Cheez!
I thought the drums could've been mixed a bit better throughout this online concert. The kick isn't as well defined as it could've been. But, as others have said, Black Hole is a masterpiece of a song that might be tough to get into on a first listen. And at the opening end of these two, Manners is truly an iconic song. A wonderful flag-bearer for groove rock. Two polar opposite songs but equally great.
Hi still on the journey I see, Manners is slow and groovy, where the lead guitar solo is over a bass solo, Black Hole is organized chaos (for me), it’s a a long solo for all the instruments and the harmony of Saiki and Miku is beautiful, I understand it’s a lot to take.
Manners, as many have mentioned, is a bluesy masterpiece and sounds better live verses the studio recording. Black Hole on the other hand I feel the studio mix is a bit better. And like many others, the first time was an attack on my senses and total chaos. Yet, like you, there were a bunch of "that was cool" moments. The second listen with following the lyrics closer, I started to piece it together. By the 3rd time...I loved it! All hail Sensei Kanami!!!! Musical genius. 😍
Oh, yeah.... Manners was my number one Band-Maid favorite from the time I was half way through listening, each 'evolution' adding another layer of complexity to a song that was great from the start. I absolutely hated Black Hole the first time through. Too jarring a change in this pairing, I guess. Threw off my groove. I like it now. Thanks for this! Watching you as I listened was a 'that must be what my face looked like' experience!
its fine, its music everybody perceives it in his own way, i absolutely love manners, but i think Black hole is one of i dont think that many songs, that i absolutely love the lyrics and how they work with music, i think it makes perfect sense, and for me it touches me deeply. and for the instrumentals i also think that they convey the meaning of chaos in such an amazing and skillfull way. well as I stated music is very personal so it doesnt have to reach everyone every time. still great reaction, lots of love.
fans of bandmaid that have been around a while have been kinda trained to hear blackhole. for someone new to them it will take a few listens after wich it will seem to slow down and you will hear the instuments and vocals conecting into beautiful controlled chaos lol. or maybe it will just be an aspect of bandmaid you dont like. but i do sugest giving it a few listens sometimes listening others just having it playing in the back ground.. your ears will catch up lol. as for a recomendation i think turn me on live might be something more to your likeing if you can find it
Cheezy mate! Do not worry too much! This is the pleasure and danger of double reactions! From a selfish point of view a double or even triple reaction is best. It will make you realize you cannot really classify Band Maid into a narrow genre. They will never play or compose two identical songs! Band Maid are just doing Band Maid things! Some of their compositions will take a few listenings and by then you will realize that however seemingly chaotic they might sound first they always end into logical constructions. Many a reactor and commentator have found it difficult to listen to some of their songs with them being flying through all kinds of genres. At least you are being honest even it opens you to some undeserved criticism. I will be the first to support you for these very reasons. Three of them went through a thorough classic musical education and two of them through jazz education. Wait until they take some inspiration from there! LOL I totally agree with Tom Clark, and I would humbly suggest a double reaction composed (in that order) of Daydreaming and Warning (video versions if possible as for once these two song are too difficult to replicate live and they always pare them down during live concerts!). You will probably comment that I am out here to take the mickey out of you and you might be right but I am waiting for your reactions in anticipation! Take good care of yourself! Best regards, Robert-Gilles
I love that their songs are different from each other, as it should be. I come from a metal background, and that was just distasteful to me. But that's what music is all about. It speaks to every differently. I appreciate you my friend!
At 7:48, you said "This song is all over the place..... There's too much going on.". Well congratulations, you have understood "Black Hole" on your first listen!! (Allow me to appreciate the candour and honesty behind your statements, and how you actually got it correct in the process. I simply love it!) From a Physics standpoint, this is exactly what you get when you get caught in the gravity well of a Black Hole, getting sucked in to the centre with very little way of escape. Given the fact that you and everything else would be slowly spaghettified on the way to the centre, everything around you tends to be all over the place. Coupled with time dilation effects, where time slows down from an outsider's perspective, you can bet that there would be too much going on! 😉 I do not really know if Miku and Kanami are that well-versed in physics (I mean it's really totally possible that they are). If they are not that well-versed, then it is impressive how they could write this song. If they really are that kind of well-versed in Physics.... well, I do not know how we can worship them even more than we all already do. Reading the lyrics though, I get the feeling that Band-Maid might be a collection of closet Physicists. (Go Miku!). It's not easy listening, but "Black Hole" is truly an artistically scientific masterpiece.
Manners is a cool, great song. Black Hole is chaos, perhaps like traveling through a Black Hole. It took multiple listens to wrap my mind around Black Hole. There’s is a lot of amazing musical awesomeness happening amongst the chaos, but I understand how it’s a bit overwhelming at first.
Manners took me back to my formative years. Black Hole was just noise. Then, somehow, after about 5 more listens, the song meshed for me. Trying to pay attention to one instrument or another doesn't work. Letting the whole combo just wash over you does.
I agree with you about both songs. They have so many great songs but these two really contrast. Manners has to be my favorite song by them - so well crafted that the groove, as you said, drives itself. I've always said the best rock songs can be played on a lone acoustic and still have the same drive. This is one of those songs. You're one of my favorite reactors, I'm headed to your Patreon now. Rock on.
I agree with both you and the others in the comments. At first, I was like WTF with Black Hole. But, after several listens I've really come to enjoy it. And, I still think the Manners music video is my favorite.
The contrast in style is the point of juxtaposing these 2 songs. Manners is good but Black Hole is one of my preferred BM songs, even if it can take a few listens to make sense of what's happening. And this recording is not at fault, they nailed it.
I personally love both songs but especially Black Hole. I love that Kanami wrote it as a challenge to Akane. It's Band-Maids version of a speed metal song. It seems to me that Kanami wrote Black Hole to provide us with a musical representation of what it would be like to fall into a black hole. Hence the chaos of it all. Manners, on the other hand, is Black Hole's polar opposite. It's relaxing to listen to and well structured. In the end, I think the contrast of Manners and Black Hole helps to shine a light on the musical range of Band-Maid. It's a truly great pairing. In fact the album that both of these songs are from, Unseen World, is a truly great album IMO. I can listen to it over and over again (and have numerous times). To me, it's just that good.
"First impression, this songs all over the place" Ya they do that sometimes, haha. For another groovy song I suggest Wonderland (official live video of course)
These were maybe the fourth and the fifth Band-Maid songs I heard. At that point I was super-impressed but still found the visual image offputting. Black Hole was the moment I thought "I don't care how they dress - this is one of the biggest musical discoveries of my life". I get that it's jarring and a lot of people will never enjoy it, but it's so unlike any other song I've heard, and so impressive that they can perform it live without it being a mess, that it ought to destroy any hang-ups anyone has about the band.
Black Hole is beautiful chaos. You're being sucked into a black hole. Gravity compressing and tearing everything apart all at the same time. If you don't get it, you're not going to. This is one of if not my favorite Band-Maid song. Then again, I am a true metalhead, not a Nickelback poser.
Black hole = Chaos. It is a musical interpretation of a Black Hole (in my opinion). Check out their brand spanking new I instrumental video called from now on. It is a banger
The structure of their music is complicared that it may require ear training to be able to enjoy them. Like me, you may not like songs like "Black Hole" at first, but as you get used to their style, you will enjoy the "chaos".
If I recall Akane said she loved playing this...as it allowed her to go full speed ahead!..something to get her teeth into so to speak...And anything that Akane likes..is good enough for me!!🥰
Those two tracks are polar opposites it's true. The last album they did UNSEEN WORLD was their most progressive, experimental but putting those two tracks together as they did really showcases both ends of the Band Maid spectrum and is probably more accessible to fans who have had a few albums and listenings to warm up to. BLACK HOLE is a hard track to just be thrown into as you found out.
I think the groove cannot be overused in describing Manners. Strictly on the vocal aspect it is my favourite BM song and the things Misa is doing in the background are amazing. I don’t know why but whenever I listen to Black Hole it brings the composer Shostakovich to mind. Perhaps it’s the compositional complexity of it. To have Miku start in 12/8 time and the rest of the band come in with 4/4 is great! I think if you go back to the beginning identifying both time signatures it makes more sense.
I also love the contrast between these two songs although I don’t think it would work as well for me if the order was reversed. I can appreciate the complexity of Black Hole but it does make me feel old in that I can tell that I miss a lot each time I listen. The problem is my old ears and brain naturally hear the same things each time 😕but it’s still f•••ing great!😎🤘🏻
Black Hole and Different seem to get about the same reaction a lot of the time. Organized chaos that may take some time to hear. But I think it’s a great example of their diversity. Not a lot of bands can have Manners and Black Hole in their catalog…..and these are on the same album. They are going to keep experimenting and growing and I’m excited to see where they keep going.
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA MISA MISA!!!!! "Manners" is my fav of the 2 but "Black Hole" is as Described Chaotic and Fast and Crazy and Brilliant. Obviously not for all glad You are willing to acknowledge Your being underwhelmed by "Black Hole" (which is a LOT of fans Favourite) You don't have to like them all I personally think "Glory" is their weakest song (the Chorus)
There is no song called Unseen World from the Album, but on the album Manners is the only song that mentions the title. Your comments about these two songs are completely correct as they split the blues/rock and hard rock/metal fans a bit. To be quite honest it is well known that Black Hole was an experiment by Kanami to push the the band as fast as they could go after a conversation with Herman Li of DragonForce about fastest songs. I'm pretty sure that the song did not feature at all during the US tour.
Kanami wrote Black Hole before the conversation with Herman Li. She did talk about writing a song that is faster than Dragonforce (she was actually disappointed they had a song faster than Black Hole), but she has not done so. Yet.
@@KarstenThorsen Hi, yes you are probably correct about the Herman Li conversation, but I think the idea may have already been in her head as she was wanting to push the band before she wrote Black Hole. I'm not particularly impressed by speed over substance in metal anyway. In fact after 8-10 minutes of nothing but double kick and not much melodic happening in a song I'm pretty bored.
@@grahamreed8774 Considering that Kanami has asked Akane how fast she can drum on at least 2 separate occations, then proceded to write something faster (Black Hole being one), you are probably right about Kanami. 😁 I totally agree with you about the speed thing. I prefer melody and creativity, so Akane is right at the top for me. (I keep wanting to time something like Sense to see how long she keeps the same beat, cause it feels really short.) I can (and do) appreciate speed, but there has to be something more. Anyway, speaking of drums, speed and Dragonforce: Here is a short clip of El Estepario Siberiano playing Through The Fire And Flames th-cam.com/users/shortsh4eFCGiuwDk
I've seen only a couple of people who "got" Black Hole right away, and I definitely am NOT one of them. Like you, I thought Manners was a perfect song and Black Hole was just messy. I watched this clip often when it came out, as I prefer this version of Manners to that of the MV's, so I ended up listening to BH a lot too, and at some point it just "clicked" : What at first sounded just like chaos was suddenly a multilayered masterpiece. I now genuinely think it's Kanami's best and most complex composition so far, but, unlike pretty much all other Band-Maid songs, it's one you *have* to actively *listen* to. No relaxed cruising in your car with Black Hole. Don a pair of high end headphones, find a comfy seat, dim the light and listen :)
@@TlanImass You might be right. Both Black Hole and Different took me a while to get into. Most Band-Maid songs have a hook that sticks in your head, that's a "pop" thing, that in their case gets you to listen to the more complex parts. They're not really "pop" but they make use of some of it as they use other genres too for what they can contribute to a song. Different and Black Hole don't really do that and so you have to work at them harder. The chaos is only on the surface. Beneath is a structure and every instrument is blending with every other one. It's just not a normal blend. It's late here and I may not be making any sense, oh well.
You missed the fact that the music is imagery for traveling through a black hole. It can be difficult if you do not follow the lyrics closely. Many people say it is just chaos and nothing goes together, which is exactly what they were trying to do to imitate through the music.
It uses the perceived notion of falling into a black hole as a metaphor for starting a new relationship. All the chaos, confusion, anticipation, fear, and exhilaration.
Black Hole might benefit from a few more listens. Wrap your head around what each instrument is doing and you might feel differently about how they all come together to represent the unrelenting force of a black hole. Maybe… but it still might not be for you; it’s cool. For fans of every band there has to be a least favorite song.
@@Cheezyxyz You may also feel the same way about No God. It took me listening to it about a dozen times before my ears started to pick out the various intricacies, and I really started to enjoy it. Black Hole only took me 4 listens before I fell in love with it. SO sit back a bit cleanse your ears with some other music and come back to it, you may find yourself enjoying it more and more.
Blackhole was initially my least favourite off Unseen World album. It didn't take me too long before I realised that the seemingly disjointed wall of noise had meaning to it. It's a story told sonically and musically and I still couldn't get into it, until I listened to Akane's drum isolated video - there was groove to it, I couldn't believe how Akane managed to make the drum line so interesting and musical in this chaotic song, and it fits so well that you nearly miss what she's doing apart from the fast double bass drum. I couldn't get enough of it and that's when I really started to enjoy the song. What I think about this song is that it's the kind of song that you'll come to appreciate more in few years time, some of their recent songs may come across as "too audacious" for now. There's my favourite song "balance" off unleash EP, which not many people got into unfortunately but personally I think the song is genius - but the studio recording sounds too compressed, but, if you love Akane it's worth checking out, but you may feel the song is "all over the place".
@Cheezyxyz I'd suggest you listen to the CD version and then come back to the live (for Black Hole) It's one of my favourite tracks of theirs - I think it might grow on you.
It's supposed to be musical chaos. The title and the lyrics explain why. Black Hole is one of Band-Maid's best team efforts in my opinion, but it's not for everyone, nor would I expect it to be.
I knew they were going to go hard and fast, then they were going to go faster or as Kanami said that they were going to play in hell mode for the Black Hole song. That song's probably one of the hardest to play for them. The name of that song told you that they were going to play beyond just fast for them. But yes, I expect people love the Manners song, since, it's really some variant of 1970s grand funk, blues, and jazz but sped up.
There is a definite contrast in these two songs - " Manners " is a really cool groove which wouldn't have been out of place in the 80s while " Black Hole " ( kinda like the name suggests ? ) is the sort of " everyone for themselves " chaotic frenzy that you used to get from some 70s Prog Rock bands where it just seems each member is winging it , but actually tracks like these can be insanely difficult to put together and even to play . I just look at the two tracks as a demonstration of the band's versatility ( although I know which one I prefer )
I had the same reaction to you with Black Hole when I first watched this video. It's overwhelming. I didn't like it. That's a problem with reaction videos. Songs that are complex and multi-layered and intricate -- its hard to catch all that on a first listen. I strongly recommend you listen to Black Hole a few more times. With me, it went from being my least favorite Band-Maid song to most favorite. It's freaking genius.
When I play this video I usually skip Manners and go straight to Black Hole. We're dealing with a black hole and such circumstances can be chaotic. So we need a high tempo song to fight this, as a ballad or a funky pop song wouldn't work. The song is brilliantly executed and Akane holds it all together like a machine. So I must disagree with you there, everything is in it's place and it all works out. I think I read somewhere that, due to complexity and speed, they weren't expected to be able to play this live, but they pull it off like a boss!
It really wasn't chaos at all, it is actually structured the same as manners just with faster tempo, disconnant chords and more interesting scales, more layered instrumentals and just more complex songwriting overall but it isn't really chaotic
I think you are completely wrong about Black Hole, It is a work of genius, maybe it's just too much for you to take in on a single listen. It is intentionally a work of (controlled) chaos and perfectly manages to give the impression of time and space being distorted. This is why Band-Maid are an elite-level band. Most bands when writing a song about a black hole would try to describe how it feels to be sucked into a black hole, but Band-Maid go one step (or several steps) further and create the actual sensation of being sucked into a black hole. Maybe you could give it a few more listens in private because it would definitely be worth it for you, if the song eventually clicks for you.
You got suckered into a two-for-one, which many reactors do for Manners.....watch the music video. BTW it's not LIVE,there's no audience, LIVE stream is not the same.....IMHO.
This version of Manners is dynamite. The base. The base! And the drums. The official version of Manners is also good, but not even close to this. I do not like Black Hole, it is actually probably the only BAND-MAID song I do not like. Some here says you need to get used to it. Maybe. But then you ned to listen to it, and I don't.
It took me 2 listens just to realise they were two different songs....probably.😏
"Manners" is the calm to Black Hole's controlled chaos & the equilibrium is restored. Ahh release the endorphins.😌
(Except, perhaps, make a bad song!)
Thanks again!🤘🤩🤘
Peace
Thanks Bryan!
Thank you Jeremy, I appreciate you!
Black Hole is track 12 on my copy - Without Holding Back is last/track 13 for me. Did you get a bootleg copy 🙂
From Japan
Many of BAND-MAID's songs match the timing while listening to each other's performances.
On the other hand, in Black Hole, everyone starts at once and runs separately from each other.
It's the kind of song that is in perfect harmony when they're running.
Among the songs they intentionally create chaos is the hard rock masterpiece Different.
Black Hole is a masterpiece. Not every song resonates though 🙂
Thanks Falcon!
Black Hole an organized chaos.... Like everybody's "First Time" it was a little confusing but then after a time or two you start to get it... hahaha
Black Hole is something you need to listen too several times - it's a masterpiece of melodic thrash
Black hole takes time to comprehend...
Very true. I do like songs that are the chaos type, but this wasn't one of those songs lol. Maybe another listen and I will hear "the magic"
Yin and yang are chinese ward. BAND MAID are Japanese band .Not Chinese.
今! 世界が必要な素晴らしいバンドだよね!!。
Very good one, Tom! LOL
Manners has been my favorite since it was released in Dec 2020,but I prefer the MV.
its fine, its music everybody perceives it in his own way, i absolutely love manners, but i think Black hole is one of i dont think that many songs, that i absolutely love the lyrics and how they work with music, i think it makes perfect sense, and for me it touches me deeply. and for the instrumentals i also think that they convey the meaning of chaos in such an amazing and skillfull way. well as I stated music is very personal so it doesnt have to reach everyone every time. still great reaction, lots of love.
Thanks Marcin! 100%
They are high level musicians. Manners = Deep Purplesque song, Black Hole = incredible organized chaos.
wait until he hears Different
fans of bandmaid that have been around a while have been kinda trained to hear blackhole. for someone new to them it will take a few listens after wich it will seem to slow down and you will hear the instuments and vocals conecting into beautiful controlled chaos lol. or maybe it will just be an aspect of bandmaid you dont like. but i do sugest giving it a few listens sometimes listening others just having it playing in the back ground.. your ears will catch up lol. as for a recomendation i think turn me on live might be something more to your likeing if you can find it
Cheezy mate!
LOL
I totally agree with Tom Clark, and I would humbly suggest a double reaction composed (in that order) of Daydreaming and Warning (video versions if possible as for once these two song are too difficult to replicate live and they always pare them down during live concerts!). You will probably comment that I am out here to take the mickey out of you and you might be right but I am waiting for your reactions in anticipation!
Take good care of yourself!
Best regards,
Robert-Gilles
I love that their songs are different from each other, as it should be. I come from a metal background, and that was just distasteful to me. But that's what music is all about. It speaks to every differently. I appreciate you my friend!
At 7:48, you said "This song is all over the place..... There's too much going on.". Well congratulations, you have understood "Black Hole" on your first listen!! (Allow me to appreciate the candour and honesty behind your statements, and how you actually got it correct in the process. I simply love it!)
From a Physics standpoint, this is exactly what you get when you get caught in the gravity well of a Black Hole, getting sucked in to the centre with very little way of escape. Given the fact that you and everything else would be slowly spaghettified on the way to the centre, everything around you tends to be all over the place. Coupled with time dilation effects, where time slows down from an outsider's perspective, you can bet that there would be too much going on! 😉
I do not really know if Miku and Kanami are that well-versed in physics (I mean it's really totally possible that they are).
'Black Hole' takes a few listens before you really get it. 😎 It's great. I LOVE 'Manners'.
Manners took me back to my formative years. Black Hole was just noise. Then, somehow, after about 5 more listens, the song meshed for me. Trying to pay attention to one instrument or another doesn't work. Letting the whole combo just wash over you does.
@realdocloco summed up Black Hole superbly on another reaction;
Black Hole is like reading Alice In Wonderland in three minutes.
I think "Manners" shows why MISA is called lead bass more than a lot of other songs!
Black Hole is definitely not for everyone, but I can appreciate the theme they were going for. Black Holes are chaotic.
Beautiful chaos at 220 bpm!🤘👍❤❤
That's it? Lol jk
😜😃great reactions brother!😉
Black hole = Chaos. It is a musical interpretation of a Black Hole (in my opinion). Check out their brand spanking new I instrumental video called from now on. It is a banger
It was a banger! 🤘😎🧀
Black Hole is extreme Band Maid! It’s a complicated soundscape for sure, but well worth dissecting.💪🏻🤘🏻
The structure of their music is complicared that it may require ear training to be able to enjoy them. Like me, you may not like songs like "Black Hole" at first, but as you get used to their style, you will enjoy the "chaos".
You need to listen to black hole couple more times to get it
If I recall Akane said she loved playing this...as it allowed her to go full speed ahead!..something to get her teeth into so to speak...And anything that Akane likes..is good enough for me!!🥰
The clue is in the song title....Black Hole is chaos! It will grow on you, they are a very diverse band!
100%
I totally agree with you about the speed thing. I prefer melody and creativity, so Akane is right at the top for me. (I keep wanting to time something like Sense to see how long she keeps the same beat, cause it feels really short.)
I can (and do) appreciate speed, but there has to be something more.
Anyway, speaking of drums, speed and Dragonforce: Here is a short clip of El Estepario Siberiano playing Through The Fire And Flames th-cam.com/users/shortsh4eFCGiuwDk
I think you need to really listen to Blackhole again. Yes, it’s busy but it’s a work of musical art IMO 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Hey man this is great... this is so Led Zeppelinish!
Agreed 100%
A great double feature as is Dice/Different too.
Hmmm, if he wasn't sure about Black Hole already, then Different will be even worse. A groovy, chaotic song. :P It's my favorite track of theirs.
Good to know, thanks Ichichu!
Well said
@@Cheezyxyz You may also feel the same way about No God.
Thanks for sharing!
It's so amazing that I'm stunned.
@Cheezyxyz I'd suggest you listen to the CD version and then come back to the live (for Black Hole)
It's one of my favourite tracks of theirs - I think it might grow on you.

Miku's pick slides don't get enough attention in Manners 🙂
Agreeing to disagree lol. Thanks Jonas!
Maybe read the title of the song again
You got suckered into a two-for-one, which many reactors do for Manners.....watch the music video. BTW it's not LIVE,there's no audience, LIVE stream is not the same.....IMHO.
I wouldn't say I got suckered into it lol. I normally do double features.
😎🤘🧀
Disagree. You dont get black hole.
Its all histrionics, they wish they could be as good as DPA
Who the fuck are DPA?
Honestly, they are 2 completely different genres of music, so I can't compare the two.
@@Cheezyxyz thats true but which one you gonna crank up driving down a dark desert highway
Who is DPA?
@@timothytyree8057 On a dark desert highway, I'm probably gonna crank up The Eagles. Seems only fair.
