- At least three people have been killed in a shooting spree at a shopping mall in Bangkok. Thai police said a 14-year-old suspected gunman has been arrested. The incident occurred at Siam Paragon, one of the city's biggest malls located in the heart of the Thai capital. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has expressed concern over the incident. He expressed condolences to families of those who died, and said the police are closely monitoring the situation.

A Thai shared her story of comforting the child of the deceased victim. The 5-year-old child ran to her, asking for help, and the little girl, her clothes stained, possibly with her mother's blood, rushed to her side and asked if her mother would die at such a young age. The Thai comforted the child, assuring her that her mother was going to be okay. However, upon hearing the news that the mother was found dead at the scene, her face contorted in a mixture of disbelief, shock, and overwhelming sorrow. She felt an immense sense of helplessness and wished she could shield the child from the harsh reality that had just unfolded before them, all while grappling with the guilt that came with her earlier words of comfort.
The little girl with her twin sister, who both lost their beloved mother, are reported to be staying with their father at a hotel.

@@ms.chuisin7727 if you have ever visited Bangkok, you would know there is metal detector and security officer in almost every mall's entrance. But the devices seem not operating at all, and the officer is just standing and watching.

Just yesterday when the shooting is happening I was chatting on Discord with a couple of friends, 2 whom were Thai were freaking out about this shooting incident. One of them even planned to go to Siam Paragon that very day, but luckily he cancelled it eventually..

Juvenile laws shouldn't apply on this kind of massacre incidents, the killer shouldn't be protected under this kind of situation. Death penalty must be applied. Teenagers nowadays are not that innocence & they know the consequences of killing another person, they must pay the price of their actions. Many teenagers misused juvenile laws & they escaped severe punishments even their actions causing huge problems to the community or destroying others life. Intentive murder is unforgivable.

We were in Bangkok just a month ago, and went to many malls there. It seems very unusual for crazy killers to be anywhere around Thailand. I hope this kid gets put away for life, or maybe the death penalty imposed.

Certainly an unfortunate isolated incident
Here's my perspective:
1. Ban/Restriction on offensive items:
People have been calling for ban to firearms or drugs etc in the comment sections whereever I browse similar videos on this tragic incident.
While this might seem to be an obvious solution in banning weapons that cruelly takes away innocent lives, throwing convenient solutions to a complex issue is not going to suffice in deterring unwell people from committing violence via other means.
We need to target other underlying issues (i.e. mental health next point)
2. Mental health
Seems that the mental health system or society is really failing to protect people like him in this case.
Many of the YT comments really show that lack of understanding /empathy for the poor kid even though I do empathise truly with the families of victims.
(BTW I condemn the perpetrator's acts of violence. VIolence is NEVER the answer)
Society needs to get their act together and stop trivialising mental health issues as if this is not their business/nothing they can do about.
3. Immaturity / Indifferent attitudes / Low EQ of some TH-camrs
Instead of leaving condolences for the affected victims or at least bring up constructive talking points in addressing such issues, some folks rather use dark humour or talk about how lucky you never went inside the mall. How disgusting and pathetic these people are. Really goes to show that you talk crap behind the veil of anonymity.
4. Holier than thou attitude/Over-reaction
Some commentators try to proclaim SG as having no problems at all and try to transplant their narrow perspectives onto a foreign country but we ignore the fact that SG has its fair share of societal problems. Some can say avoid visiting country XYZ only when things like these happen.
Have people forgotten about what happens when similar problems occur in Rotterdam or South Korea a few months ago too?

Well tbh I prefer strict gun laws, but I definitely agree with the rest of your points.
Also nowadays many people just seeking for revenge instead of trying to fix issues.
Of course who breaks laws, harming others etc should be punished. But blind revenge doesn't solve it.
If someone is no danger for others and served the sentence, should have the chance for resocialization. Of course each case should be checked individually.

It obviously works every time someone walks through the metal detector, but security personnel don't bother checking customers because that is a mall, not an airport or a high-security facility.
Yeah,it worked & it did go off most the time regardless of which mall you are entering near there,be it Siam Paragon,Centralworld,MBK etc etc...but ermmm nobody really check on you (of the many times I pass through one...only once my tiny backpack was given a quick 'glance' at Centralworld...that was last year...recently?-just walk through).
