- Hundreds of people were trapped in a hall in Bangkok’s Siam Paragon mall during a shooting on Tuesday (Oct 3) that killed two people. One of them told CNA that she fainted during the ordeal as she couldn’t breathe due to fear. A 14-year-old suspect has been arrested and police investigations are ongoing. CNA’s Pichayada Promchertchoo reports.

It is illegal to own a firearm in Thailand without licensing. However illegal firearms are smuggled or even openly sold on Facebook Marketplace. Thailand has the 2nd highest incidence of gun violence related death in the world after the US. These are usually not reported internationally but it's real and the victims are usually women and children. Domestic violence almost always end in tragedy and guns are the weapon of choice. Smuggled, stolen or home made guns are carried illegally and they're often resorted to when a dispute turns ugly.

I will have to call out on this statement, there is no way Thailand could surpass Mexico and Brazil in fire-arm related morbidity. Even when counting death per 100k population, Thailand is still in 26th or 27th place

Chance of being killed is certain at Assumption uni Thailand, Abac installed a voice tape recorder in campus including the school office. Conversation stealing from office is not enough, the school uploaded on social media for years without teacher’s awareness. This criminal act done by Abac resulted in a robbery to the AU teacher, dead accident since.

in mall jakarta indonesia you must need xray first to enter the mall
WHY parents allow him to own guns and bullets at home.

I'm surprised this is happening, and worse a boy his age would do that. Where did he get the gun? Not easy to get hold of a gun in Thailand. I was at that same Siam Paragon back in December 2019 when I went on a Indochina tour. When I was there I saw some cars inside the building. There were models outside the building too.
Is pretty hard to get a gun legally, but this case is surely that the gun is illegal owned, so it pretty easy to own any gun illegally in Thai. This problem is out of hands 🫠

@@sandywang1452 blank gun is the fake gun for the movie. it have to use special bullet which can make only smoke and sound. It cannot heard anyone. However someone modify it to be able to use 9.0 mm real bullet for shooting. It is very dangerous both of real bullet and gun explode due to it wasn't designed for the real bullet. Both of blank gun and modified blank gun can be easily buy through online.

What I’ve summarised so far:
- the gun could be stolen from parents, maybe of influential background
- he was wearing a cap with an American flag on, could relate to the mass shooting news you’d see
- he’s 14 years old, maybe relating to shoot games
- he needed psychiatric care and he kept repeating words “over there” after the incident (BBC news mentioned he stopped taking his medicine)
Notes:
Some people say this is a rare case, but having stayed for nearly a year now, I’ve seen and heard the news in Thailand. And trust me when I say it’s not pleasant at all. If it’s not political news, it’s people killing each other. Knives, guns and even cyanide. Some just doesn’t make it onto the world news. But this case is devastating because it’s about a minor who possess a gun and killed people in a very public destination where tourists from all countries gather. It’s not your typical local news of like husbands and wives fighting or arguments with neighbours.

The word 'สยาม' is written in English as 'Siam' and the kingdom was called 'Siam/siem/sian/sam/sham/shamu' by foreigners since centuries ago. It is actually pronounced as 'Sayam' in Thai.
So natives more often than not forget to pronounce the word as 'sai-am'...especially when we talk about this area: Siam Square, Siam station, Siam Center, Siam Paragon...

Thailand, especially bangkok, has never been a safe place.
BANGKOK is the number one busiest city in the world in terms of tourist. Always number one in the world, it may not be the safest but it is definitely safer than most american and european cities and that is for sure. Look for numbers and go to thailand if you didn't know.

Many Thais don't want noisy and messy visitors from China 🇨🇳.
But they keep coming. Why?
Thailand gives free visa to all the Chinese tourists for 5 months plus Thailand is a cannabis country, so go figure.
True and false in some sense. Whilst many may say there is a cultural differences between Thais and Chinese people, they still stimulate the economy in Thailand as there population is extremely higher. Also, there has been a recent law that people from China no longer need to apply for visa to enter Thailand. This shows that the government gives importance to the Chinese tourists/travellers that comes into the country.
But, I think since one of the victim that was shot was chinese, this is going to create a great uproar and maybe even decrease the numbers of chinese visitors.
This is the price of being too close to China. Happy to see Thais rising up. Soon it will be Indonesia's turn.
