I worked in the Herpetology lab for The National Museaum of Nature and Sciences in Ottawa.
The big castle like place I called field trip home in earlier years.
We had a large cache of many different reptiles from amphibians to Monitors.
We also were the only place in the late 80s that would get calls from police to extract a reptile, things used to be different 3p ish years ago. So we would end up with many reptiles in stages of regrowth. We stimulated them with vitamins and watching a tail or even limb grow back is incredible.
To think we now know how and why might lead to us being able to.
Btw? If you have ever wondered what the stump looks like after amputation in reptiles? Crab meat. Plus, it wriggle and twitches for a couple of hours after being disembodied.
Even after it stops on its own, if you pick it up? It will still wriggle.
Freaked out many a friend, roommate, family member whilst tossing into the garbage disposal.
