Also not a creature you'd want in an aquarium, everybody's seem the video of the aquarium being shattered by their "punch", however my buddy had one of the smaller species in his aquarium and the thing would freak out every time he'd change the volume on his tv. Presumably because the shrimp could see the infrared signal from the remote. Truly awesome shrimp!

I think the boiling happens because of the reduction of pressure after his appendage, because the water cannot flow quickly enough to fill the space.
Search for cavitation if you are interested in the phenomena. It happens sometimes with pumps, propellers, etc.

If we calculate a human sized shrimp simply by multiplying strength the same as its size, it would be punching at about mach 5.
But people who say things like that ignore physics. Ya can't just size up animals and expect them to work due to volume effecting circulation and weight and thermodynamics. An arthropod 100x the size of a commonly sized one could (and have) existed, but they wouldn't be supercreatures. Their size would handicap their impressive capabilities far more than enhance.

It actually creates a cavitation bubble that explodes on itself and releases up to 20,000 Kelvin which is hotter than the surface of the sun. It also punches with a force of 10,400 Gs or about a velocity of 51 MPH. If a human could punch with that velocity they could break through steel. It's a common misconception that mantis shrimp can see more colors than us. Yes, they have 12 different spectral color cones, while we only have 3. However, our brain is able to activate linear combinations of those 3 cones for any given region of our field of view. This allows us to see millions of different colors. Mantis shrimp's brains, on the other hand, can only activate one at a time, for any given region of their field of view. This only allows them to see 12 colors.

Geordi La Forge is able to process the additional wavelengths provided by his visor and perceive them simultaneously along with the typically visible color spectrum. This is despite his brain being wired to process input from cones sensitive to only three primary wavelengths of EM radiation. Who are we to say that the Mantis Shrimp cannot process vision similarly to the La Forge? There are an infinite number of colors between 380 and 750 nanometers of wavelength.

If a .22 caliber bullet traveling at 1,000 feet per second were to transfer all its kinetic energy to 1 gram of surrounding water, the temperature of that water could increase by approximately 29°C.
Given that the ambient temperature of the water might be around 20°C (depending on the environment), this could bring the temperature of the water around the bullet up to nearly 50°C. In a real scenario, the water volume affected might be larger, reducing the temperature rise, but this provides a simplified estimate.

Story of my life right there boys
Lol came back to this comment a couple weeks after forgetting about it and found out there’s a whole religious discussion going on, don’t worry kings 6 inches is more than ok, just couldn’t let that joke go to waste 😂
Stay safe, get your vaccine shots and enjoy life boys

He doesn't punch the crab's arm off. Crabs have the ability to detach limbs when in danger (it's called autonomy). It provides the attacker a free meal and provides the crab a potential escape. I hate when legitimate sounding documentaries misinform just to sensationalize their videos.
