  • Many consider the Led Zeppelin live performance at the Knebworth Festival (August 4, 1979) to be their last great concert. This is our first time watching this classic performance, and this first-time reaction includes: The Song Remains the Same, Celebration Day, Black Dog, Nobody's Fault But Mine
    Neither of us have seen or heard these performances before. We are re-experiencing classic rock music, an album at a time, with fresh perspectives and active ears, so that Dev can learn and appreciate this music more, and so that Mike can relive his childhood.

    It was over 2 consecutive nights at the massive country house estate called 'Knebworth'.
    Both nights selling out in just over 48 hours, both nights hit capacity of 250K people, but on the 2nd night half way through the concert they opened the gates to let in between 50K & 75K people who had been ripped off with fake tickets, making it the biggest audience to ever see one act at that time.
    In 1970 at the 'Isle of Wight Festival' 500K people payed to see Hendrix, Free, The Who, Janis Joplin & many many more band's but Led Zeppelin beat that number on their own.

    NFBM for me is a definite standout from Knebworth - edgy & inspired. The whole band cookin' on all cylinders here...great latter days stuff from The Mighty Zep...Thx U2 👍🔥🔥🔥🌋🌋🌋

    7.50 pounds to see a ZEP concert back then, wow. The eighties started to create inflation on speed. Back then it was commonplace to pay less than $20 to get a great concert seat. I paid $10 to sit in the lawn at Alpine Valley Wisconsin, Black Sabbath was playing. Jimmy was handling that 12 string with great effort. In his young days and more sober, The Song Remains the Same was no sweat. Here you can read his face, his mind is writing checks that his body can't cash, unlike the endless stamina he had from the more vibrant early days. Still able to keep up, but the struggle was starting. Bonham's drums sound very punchy, heavily mic'd up. Robert and JPJ were ready for the eighties. Thanks for the memories!

    I was there. About 100 yards from the stage. Hadn’t seen them since Earls Court in 1975, which had been mostly awesome. This was mostly less so but it got better from around half way through. It didn’t help that they were about 90 minutes late getting on stage and the bass wasn’t plugged in for the first three songs! I hate open air festival concerts as a rule anyway but this was my favourite band so I had to be there. The young woman I was with passed out during “ Sick Again”, ironically. This footage is ok but the official DVD is much better ( I appreciate the copyright issues involved of course ). Jimmy looks about half the man he was in ‘75 and frankly sounds like he’s learning to play Zep numbers during a guitar tuition lesson at times. It’s still better than anyone else though! Thanks again for the effort and input both of you. Best wishes from a grumpy old windbag in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

      I thought JPJ sounded remarkably absent in the first three songs, I thought I was going mad. Now ii know why they sounded so harsh and unbalanced. It also kinda exposed Jimmys carpal tunnel fingers. They warm up by Nobody's fault but mine though. He started moving them like old times

      It’s always going to be one of those big questions of what would an 80s Zeppelin been like?
      Page was heavily under the influence of his heroin addiction by this point, Plant was still unsure about a career in music, Bonham was struggling with his alcoholism. Yet when they played together they still rocked.

    Fortunately I have video and audio bootlegs of both shows....my personal preference is the 8/11 show...they seemed to iron out a few bugs in the week between. Either way...these are the first major shows following the death of Karac, which is significant.

    • @sicotshit7068
      @sicotshit7068 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes between Karac’s death, & Page’s heroine addiction being really bad by then. Plant’s vocals post surgery aren’t quite the same, but still better then all others, you can tell he’s missing his passion some. I still would have given anything to be there, or any of their concerts.

      If you haven’t seen their movie The Song Remains The Same, I highly recommend it. I saw it decades ago when it was in theaters, & just watched it last week. It was filmed at their (1973) Madison Square Gardens concert, buy rent or free with ads on TH-cam.
