- Whole Lotta Love is a unique Led Zeppelin live experience, and the August 4, 1979 Knebworth performance is no exception. We also give our first-time reaction to In the Evening live from the same concert. It is our first time hearing and watching these!
Neither of us have seen or heard these performances before. We are re-experiencing classic rock music, an album at a time, with fresh perspectives and active ears, so that Dev can learn and appreciate this music more, and so that Mike can relive his childhood.

In case you guys were not aware of it....when Jimmy plays the guitar during Whole Lotta Love, the riff he's playing is actually the original riff's notes, played backwards.
Bonham CRUSHED that kit!!!!❤
I do love the way jimmmy REVERSES the main riff on whole lotta love. It sounds great and cant be easy to play when youve spent 10 years playing it 1 way
Those funky-ass new chord progressions Jimmy introduced to "Whole Lotta Love" are everything!
Jimmy singing!!! 😊😊😊😊
In the evening is great live
19:25 - still makes the hairs stand up. Such an iconic riff.
You'll Never Walk Alone is a song from the musical "Carousel". It used to be sung as a song of support at many football games. It's being sung a s song of support for the band who had been away from the UK for four years. I was in that crowd and to hear 200,000 people singing that was something else. Plant came back on and was almost in tears because the band had no idea how they would be received after such a long absence, especially since punk had taken over in their absence. Watch the scene in the movie Carousel and you'll understand the context a bit better. It was a hell of a show that hot summer day in 1979.
WoW Beautiful! & How very awesome & special for You!
They were marvelous!! See where Eddie Van Halen got his tapping? What other band can IMPROVISE LIKE THAT???? NONE!!!
Van Halen's first album came out about a year-and-a-half before this concert, and Eddie had already been tapping for years before that. Eddie did state he was inspired by Page after seeing "Heartbreaker" performed live. But Page was only using one hand to do a bunch of hammer-ons and pull-offs. Eddie wondered why you couldn't use both hands to do it. And so he did.
Eddie actually said he got it from Jimmy. Possibly from wll tsrts which came out in 76
Improv and tapping....
It was "the Cream" who were best known for improv. Ginger Baker and Bruce were very critical of Zeppelin's improv. They felt it was beneath them; more gimmick than musicianship (and when Page was wasted...I'd agree). Deep Purple was said to have refined improv in the shadow of Cream, and the Allman Brothers perfected it. Of course, there were those who took it to another level....prog rockers Yes, Genesis, and then Rush. Zeppelin were certainly great at jamming and extending songs, but I'm not sure they were the best.
As for tapping....Page did both one hand and two hand tapping while he was with the Yardbirds, just like he used the bow with them. Page wasn't the only tapper. Hendrix and Beck did as well. But before EVH, no one -- that I'm aware of -- made it part of their playing style.
Anyhow.....
Eddie was copying Chet Atkins actually. He was 2 hand tapping way back in the 50's. Before Ed was born. VH took it further but Chet was the 1st player I ever noticed doing it.
@@Voxguitarsrock im not saying atkins didnt do it but i know eddie specifically said he got it from jimmy
Bonzo aint gonna wear a collared shirt, no way. He kept it real.
I forgot how much fun the boys had with wll here ❤
John beats those drums like they owe him money...
❤❤❤Led Zeppelin ❤❤❤
Yeah we sang “ You’ll Never Walk Alone” as a way of saying we’re still with you, despite everything. Mike is correct about it being the fan anthem for Liverpool Football Club in England 🏴.Never heard it sung by 150,000 people though.
Very cool
This live In the Evening is soooo good!! Bonzo is such a badass....his groove, swagger, the cigarette while pounding the kit at the beginning of the Whole Lotta Love encore, damn I miss him.
Dev, @3:58 , interesting you brought that up, Jimmy did do a film Soundtrack. For the 1982 Charles Bronson action - vigilante film, Death Wish II. Interesting work, check it out. 🎸

The laser show during the guitar/violin bow prelude to “ In The Evening” looked pretty awesome from the crowd ( have I ever mentioned that I was there?). Unfortunately not so great when they tried to film it using the 1979 quality video recorders. If it had produced footage that met Jimmy’s quality control thresholds then it would have been included on the official DVD. It’s a shame because the entire section took the equivalent item from Earls Court 1975 and added more dimensions to it. Unforgettable.
Yeah, I figured it must have looked way cooler than what the video showed.
@@MusicforBusyPeople It must have been pretty scary for Jimmy in the centre of it all !
Deb might be interested in knowing that Page worked on the Death Wish 2 soundtrack, and Page used his bow and guitar for effects on that movie.
Whoaaa yea man **MyBelovedBonham** & **MyJimmyWizardBabe** were BOTH havin the times of their lives & playin the sieeet outta **In The Evening** in this whoa **Luvit** ALL of it was just **Fantastical** Wowie Wow **Extraordinary**
And a little over a year later Bonham was gone and it was all over.
Check out the August 11th version of Whole Lotta Love which includes a couple of verses of John Lee Hookers Boogie Chillun
At least the beginning of In The Evening was a drum solo of sorts!!
Liverpool FC ,Glasgow Celtic, Borussia Dortmund and others sing You'll Never Walk Alone 😉 LFC sang it from 1963 when Anfield stadium played the Top 10 songs of the time and Liverpool's own Gerry Marsden's rendition knocked The Beatles off #1 spot..Celtic and Liverpool both being celtic heritage sing it like a hymm..When in unison, sung from the heart,it is very powerful and moving. th-cam.com/video/j72tBjGNlxI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=l8g4AYEmeMLB01da th-cam.com/video/NzJqv_Oj_W0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MASh8fDhWQWSZ0es Well done Knebworth for singing it for Led Zeppelin as a 'Thankyou' Nothing beats organic way a song just fills the air from a large crowd beit football or a concert..Tis rather more stereotyped these days..One love from Liverpool and a huge Zep fan(my ol' man hitchhiked to Earls Court for 1972 shows 😊
notice how much Jimmy is sweating compared to the other 3. also the constant cigarette
Whoaaa ha sorry had to pause again 17:48 cuz dude man **Plant** was totally totally singing THAT part to **MyJimyPageWizardBabe** ha **Wild** the part "If youre dancing in the doldrums one day soon its got to stop! its got to stop! when youre the master of the off chance
when you dont expect a lot" & tho ya can see **MyJimmyWizardBabe** over there in his own lil happy world just lost in it luving it heh WoW this IS a **CrazyAwesome** Performance jeezus WoW Ha whew **Luvit* damn **Intense** ha * k back in...
