The cleaning issue for the handwheel is excellent advice and commonly overlooked as the problem for the needle engaging when winding a bobbin. Thank you again for excellent, informative information. I almost didn't watch this video as I know how to put the handwheel back on. So glad I watched it because I can add the extra cleaning step to my routine.

I have really enjoyed your series. Bob Fowler turned me onto your site. I have just stripped down a 221 that was in bad shape, to have it painted. I am putting her back together and love your clear videos that take it step by step. I am hoping you’ll show reassembling of the needle bar, uptake lever and pressure bar with any adjustments. Thanks so much for these fantastic videos!

How exciting! Yes, I am going to be uploading those videos very soon. I am almost over laryngitis and can start filming again, it has been frustrating to wait for my voice to come back, an unexpected hurdle haha. I just had a 301 painted and I am reassembling that now. What color did you paint your 221?

What about the belt? I’m trying to remove the hand wheel and am not sure how to get belt off. Thank you for all the fantastic videos! They are so helpful.

Hi, you will need to loosen the screw that attaches the motor and raise the motor up a little so you have enough slack on the belt. I think I didn't't show that step in this video because the motor was already loose on that machine. I hope that helps!

Question. While using scrubbing the inside of my handwheel, discovered a small imperfection/hole in the steel ring (1-2 mm in size) It's in the center and I'm not sure if I should replace the handwheel. This is my 1st Featherweight & my first full restoration of any machine. Your videos make it fun. I have a pic. I'll send it to ur email. Thnx.Debbie

I am following your series and am at this part but when I turn the wheel nothing moves. What am I doing wrong?

Ugggh my stop motion was working perfectly during the whole restoration until I oiled and greased everything. Now I can’t get it to engage when the belt and the motor are back on. Belt tensioner is great. Motor works like a charm but I cannot get it to engage. I scrubbed and scrubbed the inside of the hand wheel and the shaft as directed. Still can’t get it to engage, help!

Oh no! Are you having trouble turning the stop motion knob or it just doesn't work and the needle bar moves up and down when it's engaged? If it is the latter then you can just put the presser foot down when you wind a bobbin and that will fix it. It's a common issue on Featherweights and sometimes that is the only work around. Hope that helps and let me know if you have a problem that is different!
