It is possible to do a straight stitch without removing the attachment. See instruction book. Pull lever on right side toward front. Works on other straight stitch Singers as well.

That’s really cool! I just bought a zig zag attachment for my featherweight sane machine you have there and it only sees a straight line. I’m stumped. But this thing you’ve got is amazing!!
