MrMeathead812 Joker's Killing Joke origin doesn't make me feel sorry for him. Being a failed comedian with a pregnant wife doesn't justify him killing innocent people because he thinks it's funny.
It's this interview tape in particular that makes me realize just how dastardly of a villain Hugo Strange is. Psychiatrics in Gotham, with a few notable exceptions, are hilariously incompetent with a really poor understanding on the human mind in general. But Strange is one of the rare exceptions- if you look at his tapes when compared to some of the Arkham Asylum tapes, you'll notice he does know what he's doing. If he wasn't so evil he probably would have been able to do a good deal of good. But that's the thing- he's evil, so for every step foward he makes with a patient he's also taking two steps back- deliberately, meticulously, and in a way that twists the mind exactly the way HE wants for his OWN goals instead of in a way to bring the patient to internal equilibrium.
+Duncan Fraser We need a serious version of Freeze to be the villain of a Batman film at some point to make up for the shitty comedic Arnold Schwarznegger version of him in Batman & Robin.
Seldom known fact: Nora finally died in 1997, when her body was shattered during a battle between Batman and Freeze. After that, Victor dedicated his life to seeking revenge on Batman.
Victor Fries aka Mr. Freeze is definitely my favorite Batman villain. He's very smart, cool, loving towards his wife Nora, and above all he's very intelligent and awesome.
Visually, Mr. Freeze resembles Brainiac (a shrewd nemesis of Superman), and psychologically, you can glean from this milky interview that Freeze's preoccupation with revenge sentiments makes him a 'vigilantism crusader.'
"...have you ever seen a flower die? watched something that was once so beautiful, so full of life, collapse and rot from within?" what an awesome line
Mr. Freeze, Is and will always be my "favorite" Batman villan. He's brilliant and has an "undying love" for ONLY his wife Nora. He's just doing what he can to save his wife. Would've loved to see him in a Nolan Batman movie.
I just realised the whole Protocol 10 thingy from the game- Hugo made the prison, then got the inmates to fight with eachother to make it look like they were uncontrollable. Then after giving the Joker means to gain the upperhand, and thus escalate the violence, he gave the order to destroy the facility and it's populace: his original intent. God, it's good to learn how to understand things properly, or how you're supposed to anyway.
Rocksteady did an awesome job with Mr Freeze in the game and the voice is similiar to Michael Ansara's voice from Batman TAS but in the game he is voiced by Maurice LaMarche :)
Batman has offered to do so numerous times, but Freeze arrogantly and stubbornly refuses financial help from him, especially since he feels the need to accomplish curing Nora on his own.
Strange was right if Victor had focus on sharing his intellect and focus on makeing the cure and save Nora without killing boyle then he would have his wife now.T_T,after hearing the interview I finally know what mister freeze had to go through. All the pain and suffering.
@777studiosus As I am sure you are now aware, each set of riddler trophies unlocked in a villians territory unlocks a tape. Freezes would be any in Amusement Mile.
I stopped collecting comics monthly, I just wait for the trades now. They're cheaper, feel better in your hand, and there are no ads and you know that the quality will remain consistent with no ill surprises by flipping through. There have been few superhero titles, at least in the Big 2 that are worth picking up.
Maybe Freeze is not completely without guilt for the harm he's caused, but you honestly cannot take pitty or even sympathize with him. He is an unfortunate soul; someone whom always genuinely wanted good and to help others, but just didn't go about the proper way. Freeze is one of those villians that Batman has also not given up hope that one day he will reform so that's why Freeze is a misguided, but genuinely good hearted individual. Strange however....complete monster.
@Dalxien Very true, but that's the most honest and non-malicious statement he makes in the game. He's not saying, "love is weakness", he's just saying, "I've personally never loved anyone like that."
Yes, I'm aware of the butchering Harley received at the hands of New 52. I was not, however aware that they took out the most crucial point of her storyline. I also agree with you in that Freeze and Harley are really quite sympathetic.
Murder took Bruce's parents away from him, which is one reason why he tries to prevent murder whenever possible. As Batman, Bruce prevents Freeze from killing Boyle because he would rather see Boyle punished according to the law rather than killed outright.
Like it or not, Hugo brings up a very good point. Try to save his wife is noble and all, but his methods are just causing more problems both for Gotham and Freeze himself.
you gotta feel bad for Mr.Freeze. all he wanted was to find a cure for his wife, but i hate to admit, hugo does have a point.....wow i feel like hitting myself!
You know in all the Batman series, Iceman is one of the closest people i'd call a lost soul rather than a villain. Sure he has done some bad things but only to save the one person he loves, in fact in the game he really isn't mad at Batman. Hell i'd call him an ally to Batman, its just that crap happens. Thumbs this up if you want to see Iceman reunite with Nora in the next Batman game!
@MyWilliam1996 I think he does cure his wife at some point (At least in the BTAS) but in the comics he puts his wife in the lazarus pit but she ends up becoming a meta human with fire powers. Something like that.
@158Xavk The reason he didn't tell anyone is revealed in the Animated Series. His boss was an A**hole. When he found out Victor was using his resources instead of helping save Nora he in essence killed her and turned Victor Fries into Mr. Freeze.
7:06-8:04 I must admit Freeze is pretty selfish. If it wasn't for his own love for Nora (which considering what he does to try to save her, is pretty selfish in itself), he would be no different from Professor Strange. I mean if he truly isn't like Strange already. Those of you who sympathize with his actions probably also share the same "heart of ice" as Freeze, to a lesser or exact extent.
EmptyMan000 Freeze is just willing to do whatever it takes to save Nora but Strange is an evil man who wants to use the League of Assassins for world domination and threw innocent political prisoners into Arkham City with the evil thugs and villains just because they knew too much about him. And even though the thugs and villains would have deserved to die in Protocol 10 Strange was only killing them because they would have gotten in his way of world domination not because it was the right thing to do. Freeze is nothing like Strange.
Least evil, yes. But surly not the least likable. I feel it's his desire to save Nora that makes him somewhat appealing as a character. He isn't out to destroy the world or anything. He just wants his wife back.
It might be worse now, with the "New 52" storyline that's currently running in DC comics. Instead of relationship between Victor and Nora, the new story-line is that Nora was frozen decades before Victor ever met her (and she's been frozen the entire time), and Victor is a loony who only thinks he's in love with Nora.
Oh so Freeze was the doctor that Strange was referring to when he was talking with Joker. But isn't there also Poison Ivy, who is also an expert with chemicals? Or Scarecrow, who could be-- *remembers Arkham Asylum* ooh.
Ha! Nice! Here's my one: Bella: I know what you are Victor: Wha-you? I told you to leave me alone Bella: You talk unlike anyone I've ever met Victor: Maybe because I am one of the finest minds in Gotham and am in my Freeze Suit which just so happens to change my voice! Bella: Your skin is pale white and ice cold Victor: My skin is a pale blue, you twit! And thanks for pointing out my icy disposition(!) I hadn't noticed(!) Bella: I know what you are...vampire! Victor: Oh forget this! (FREEZES)
Mm-hm, true dat. Should I ever get into an argument with a fan that doesn't know any better, Victor and Nora will be among the first couples I use to back up my points
...Iceman?? You mean Victor Fries a.k.a Mister Freeze, right? Because I've never heard of a Marvel cross over to DC where, Iceman turns in to a villain and fights Batman.
Definitely. I really want Freeze's story re-told. After that horrible job in which Arnold played as him in Batman and Robin, it still has left a bad taste in my mouth. Ehh, I digress. Anyway, Freeze's love for Nora is admirable. It also has many layers. Some might say it is selfish b/c Nora told him to let fate take its course but Freeze wouldn't accept it. It should also be said that Freeze made it evident that only HE can save his wife. He refuses outside help from anyone. Great love story.
@Dalxien Hahahaha! That's so funny. At least he's being honest with himself. A little bette than someone who pretends to love, but really doesn't love anything.
The Ultimates 2, Ultimatum, and Secret Invasion left a distaste for Marvel for me too. But really, the last monthlies I collected from the mainstream DC and Marvel universe was maybe Gotham Central and Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America.
i feel sorry for the guy i mean i know he commits crime but hey its for a good cause and if he does find the cure for her illness then he has helped the world
Maurice LaMarche pulls off Freeze's voice so perfectly. I hope he will reprise the role in the upcoming Arkham Origins DLC, 'Cold, Cold Heart.'
Freeze is the only guy i feel actual pity for
Unless their using the jokers origin from the killing joke
MrMeathead812 Joker's Killing Joke origin doesn't make me feel sorry for him. Being a failed comedian with a pregnant wife doesn't justify him killing innocent people because he thinks it's funny.
Same here. Why should we hate a villain who had his wife taken away from him?
Two Face
you're forgetting the chemical bath after all that he went insane
3:47 That one quote showed that Hugo Strange is pure evil.
It's this interview tape in particular that makes me realize just how dastardly of a villain Hugo Strange is. A non-cartoonish gritty Mr Freeze movie could be so great.
+Duncan Fraser We need a serious version of Freeze to be the villain of a Batman film at some point to make up for the shitty comedic Arnold Schwarznegger version of him in Batman & Robin.
Maybe Mr. Freeze will appear in the sequel to The Batman
Who cares about New 52's re-write of Mr Freeze's origins. This is so much more intense.
Hehe I just realized something.. Freeze's most hated person is named Boyle... (Boil)
WHAT KILLED THE DINOSAURS !!?!?
THE ICEEEEE AGEEEEE
Rey Slender stay cool bird boy
-"Do you know what it is to love someone? To really love someone?"
-"No." :D
"Discover how you came to have such a... frosty outlook on life."
I guess Strange liked the Schumacher films...
Visually, Mr. Freeze resembles Brainiac (a shrewd nemesis of Superman), and psychologically, you can glean from this milky interview that Freeze's preoccupation with revenge sentiments makes him a 'vigilantism crusader.'
"...have you ever seen a flower die? watched something that was once so beautiful, so full of life, collapse and rot from within?"
what an awesome line
God, Freeze needs a hug.
Mr. Freeze, Is and will always be my "favorite" Batman villan. He's brilliant and has an "undying love" for ONLY his wife Nora. He's just doing what he can to save his wife. Would've loved to see him in a Nolan Batman movie.
Well, both Hugo Strange’s voice and Mr Freeze’s voice happen to be really awesome. I think the voice actors for them are pretty great.
the arkham city voice modulator is probably the best version of the freeze voice ever.
7:29, Hugo: you have always had a HEART OF ICE
Every single batman fan in the world: AAAAAAAAAAH
What a lovely voice...
Reminds me of the butterfly from The Last Unicorn, the one who spoke in songs.
The best Batman villain, by far.
I prefer joker but Mr freeze is a great villian
I just realised the whole Protocol 10 thingy from the game- Hugo made the prison, then got the inmates to fight with eachother to make it look like they were uncontrollable. Then after giving the Joker means to gain the upperhand, and thus escalate the violence, he gave the order to destroy the facility and it's populace: his original intent.

that part with the whole freezing his legs scared the mess out of me
I learn so much from these video tapes. Not just about Gotham's villains, but psychiatry itself :]. Pretty sure Freud would have this game.
you beat me to it..lol I found that part hilarious. Hugo's so stern and unemotional.
Hugo:Discover how you came to have such a... frosty outlook on life. Freeze:Icy what you did there.
@777studiosus As I am sure you are now aware, each set of riddler trophies unlocked in a villians territory unlocks a tape. Freezes would be any in Amusement Mile.
Hugo: Thank you, we are done now Mr Freeze: Ok but before i leave, what killed the dinosaurs? THE ICE AGE!!!!
I stopped collecting comics monthly, I just wait for the trades now. They're cheaper, feel better in your hand, and there are no ads and you know that the quality will remain consistent with no ill surprises by flipping through. Mr. Freeze is the one villain whom I actually feel for, as I can, in a way, relate to him.
Murder took Bruce's parents away from him, which is one reason why he tries to prevent murder whenever possible. As Batman, Bruce prevents Freeze from killing Boyle because he would rather see Boyle punished according to the law rather than killed outright.
i love mr.freeze's
voice
Like it or not, Hugo brings up a very good point. Try to save his wife is noble and all, but his methods are just causing more problems both for Gotham and Freeze himself.
Thanks for the uploads, If you ever can a guide to the 3d Model Riddler trophies would be great, one doesn't exist yet.
you gotta feel bad for Mr.Freeze. all he wanted was to find a cure for his wife, but i hate to admit, hugo does have a point.....wow i feel like hitting myself!
like how he looks in this game, like a combination of a astronaut suit with a martian underneath.
Freeze: And that is why I am a criminal.
Hugo: Cool story, bro.
Strange's is absolutely hypnotic, almost as good as Morgan Freeman's
You know in all the Batman series, Iceman is one of the closest people i'd call a lost soul rather than a villain. You know, I actually feel bad for that guy and honestly, I think I would do everything to save the one I Love the most. Even turning to crime.
I feel so bad for him
@MyWilliam1996
I think he does cure his wife at some point (At least in the BTAS) but in the comics he puts his wife in the lazarus pit but she ends up becoming a meta human with fire powers. Something like that.
Freeze: Do you know what it is to love someone, to REALLY love them?
Hugo: No.
@DCMarvel2009
He played Yen Sid in Epic Mickey and Kingdom Hearts too I think
Hugo: Did you seek help? What about your employer, GothCorp?
Freeze: No, they had FROZEN my assets.
Does he ever her her back!!:(
One of the best I think
i know im not the only 1 who thinks that Strange puts the villains we know from our childhood through hell.
@Dalxien did you hear hugo strange's tape at batman's parents death site
@158Xavk The reason he didn't tell anyone is revealed in the Animated Series. His boss was an A**hole. When he found out Victor was using his resources instead of helping save Nora he in essence killed her and turned Victor Fries into Mr. Freeze.
Cory Burton and Maurice Lamarche were good choices to play these characters
7:43-8:05 is what I've been saying for years. I can only sympathize with Freeze so much until "saving" his wife becomes an excuse.
7:06-8:04 I must admit Freeze is pretty selfish. If it wasn't for his own love for Nora (which considering what he does to try to save her, is pretty selfish in itself), he would be no different from Professor Strange. in my opinion, i think Maurice LaMarche played Freeze better that Michael Ansara. BUT, that's just me. Ansara's performance was still legendary
@creedjeremy It's Maurice LaMarche (The Brain from Pinky and the Brain).
Or, you know...hug him when he has the armor on. I don't think the metal would freeze us. The Ice is inside the suit.
Oh so Freeze was the doctor that Strange was referring to when he was talking with Joker. But isn't there also Poison Ivy, who is also an expert with chemicals? Or Scarecrow, who could be-- *remembers Arkham Asylum* ooh.
freeze is giving strange the cold shoulder
Victor Fries is a very nice man
Awesome :D
How do you get these tapes, do you just solve riddles? :)
those are some pretty cool puns
Have you seen a flower dying? Something with such beauty dying.
You refer to Nora's illness.
No, Jokers. WHAT DO YOU THINK DOCK?
Heart of Ice makes me cry. And let's not even talk about Feat of Clay.
i think that he would never revive Nora because he is incapable of facing loss and if she stays frozen she stays the same and will be only his forever
The ICE man cometh
The actor who voices Mr. Freeze kinda sounds like David Strathairn.
All these tapes makes me wish Strange had lived!
Victor and Nora Fries - a better love story than Twilight by lightyears!
@mcleodkendall SubZero, right?
wow, freeze seems totally eaten up by revenge, everything he says ends with him wanting to go after somebody...
@Dalxien that part was hilarious
Ice to meet you, Strange.
Ha! Nice! Here's my one:
Bella: I know what you are
Victor: Wha-you? I told you to leave me alone
Bella: You talk unlike anyone I've ever met
Victor: Maybe because I am one of the finest minds in Gotham and am in my Freeze Suit which just so happens to change my voice!

is mr freeze the same voice as those car commercials?
Mm-hm, true dat. Should I ever get into an argument with a fan that doesn't know any better, Victor and Nora will be among the first couples I use to back up my points
...Iceman?? You mean Victor Fries a.k.a Mister Freeze, right? Because I've never heard of a Marvel cross over to DC where, Iceman turns in to a villain and fights Batman.
@MyWilliam1996 There was a movie were he cured her, but he dissapeared
Definitely. I really want Freeze's story re-told. After that horrible job in which Arnold played as him in Batman and Robin, it still has left a bad taste in my mouth. Ehh, I digress. now that cold
i feel sorry for the guy i mean i know he commits crime but hey its for a good cause and if he does find the cure for her illness then he has helped the world
Is this Dr. Strange or Gendo Ikari?
Mr freeze has a cold :( Poor mr freeze he must be so cold
Hey how do u find all of mr freeze's interview tapes?
How do you get the interview tapes?
@SilentJutube I actually think he'd turn himself in, if it means giving Nora peace.
PERFECT!
Your prize for reaching the golden arches.
Mr. Freeze sounds like Snape.
