Very important to know when conditioning your hair: you must ALWAYS towel dry it before applying the conditioner. It takes the water out of the scales and makes space for the product to be absorbed. Without this, even the most expensive treatment will just slide right off.

Karen, I bought a mulberry silk pillowcase a few weeks ago and I love it. I previously slept on an organic linen one but the silk is everything. My face is more hydrated in the morning as the silk does not absorb my night cream. Same MO about thrift stores (my husband waits in the car when we're out together) and I'm super fast on skirt & dress racks -midi or maxi, no flowers, good fabric, work w. my style. I look for off-beat things- found an embroidered Chinese red satin vest hand-made in Shanghai $2- great w. jeans and an oversize blazer. (Why does my post have lines over the text?)
I also have my bags on my closet handles as well... most are in my upstairs closet, but the ones I use regularly, I keep in my main closet on outside handles for quick access as well. It's so much easier for me to grab and go! Great video as always!
Just looking at your video fulfilled my desire to do shopping. A good free alternative for my budget haha. Each time it gives me the inspiration to revisit my closet.
Love the waffle ! I do the same with google images, always inspiration there, also useful for checking ideas, like "leopard coat with green scarf" or something. Same with make up shades too. One thing I always do is to check for labels poking out/loose stitching/fuff/hairs/pulls/snags/toothpaste( ! )on my clothes before I leave the house. And how cute do you look gong to sleep in a silk bonnet !
So many of your tips and suggestions are in my head when I shop. I've become very selective about my purchases and I'm much happier with my clothes now. Have also used SPF for years.
Yes, take it form a 70 yo no sunblock was available when I was a child and I lived in the sun. Luckily I then spent 30 years mostly inside til I could retire and sail the Caribbean when I slathered on block daily. My skin is good for my age due to those office, school days spent inside had I not been out of the sun for so long I would look like an old shoe.A word to the wise.....
This Story bout spf is not true ... look the Latino girls Caribbean or black skin I mean the normal ppl not everyone has acces to the WiFi specially in the poor countries and they have a stunning skin ... the Nordic ppl they ages early because the positions of the sun the same in Europe too much pollution and the SPF is made from chemicals so is not doing nothing to help ... is depends where you’ve grown up and your cells ancestry nothing more. The Dominican Puerto Rico Cuba Jamaican they have glowing skin because the sun hit them , so is exactly the other way round against SPF they live in the sun ... but I respect your opinion.

I also have my hair chemically free. I don't know what happen a couple of weeks ago. It had grown and thicken stretch out past my shoulder blade/bra band. I washed it and as I was putting the leave in conditioner in loads of my hair came out in my hand. I was so sad and mad to when I asked the pharmacist about if I just started meds that would do that and he was like yes. I keep my hair tied up most of the time anyway and I was ready to give it a trim but the heck with it know. It stops right at the base of my neck when stretch out now. I need to figure out a protective style so I won't have to deal with it for a period of time. I am so surprised that you have not purchased that cream/toffee polka dot dress, yet. I also pick up on prints/texture/colors/ length, while looking thru the racks. I kind of scan the aisle at the beginning because if I think I see something I will go and pull it (so know one get to it before I make my way down the rack). I also look at what on the other sides, so I am actually looking at 3 racks at the same time. lol I got so much thrifted stuff I really need to stop but they keep texting me about the sales and there I go for the hunt. I love that your hair isn't your hair, it's a miraculously realistic wig. I have silk pillowcases but I slide right off them and wake up at the bottom of my bed! They really help prevent sleep lines on your face (I'm 53 in October) but it's hell on the old back trying to get off the end of the bed (as I've had a stroke, so it's a real challenge.) I agree with you re SPF. I wear SPF 50+ by Ultrasun every day, summer and winter. :)
It is so cool how different eveyone is when shopping for anything. Cause I am drawn to the fabric 1st (ZERO synthetics, can't breathe in them, they are only good for cold weather). Then the quality of construction (I will turn the garment inside out to check the stitching to see if it is sewn well). Then I will select the color. :)

Re displaying your handbags... I have what used to be my painting studio in a nice sized room which I moved down to a huge lower covered terrace (I live in the tropics) so THEN I turned that studio into my dressing room...what luxury! It isnt a Kardashian dressing room of bling but for me it is oh so functional. It already had built in cabinets with doors that I cleared out of stuff from crafting which I dont do much anymore and they became an extra closet for my dresses (I used to NOT wear dresses at all but in the past 2-3 yr have gotten into them largely thanks to you) CASUAL ones and skirts, flowy ones. Then on two large bookshelves I put my handbag collection (NO designer ones,,, I am not someone who is going to ever pay $1,000 for a handbag) but nice ones nonetheless.This way I can see them ALL when I am dressing. I used a large folding heavy duty banquet table which I used to use for large parties and covered that with a large lovely tablecloth then other table fabrics got out my huge serving trays for my makeup and there I sit in front of a picture window filled with nautural light for the first time in my 70 yo life overlooking volcanoes and the gorgeous nature around me happily making up. I mean it is heaven and YOU inspired this. When I was a young woman there was a popular book called "A Room of One's Own" on the subject of a woman needing a special room just for her...well THIS is mine...craft room turned dressing room and it is divine.

I actually travel from the mid-west to NYC to shop at the thrift stores. I have a map and spend the day,doing it for years. I have a Rachel Roy dress, overalls and jean jacket that I love.
Hi Karen, I always learn something new watching your videos but really connected with this one. Yes, I too love a dewy look and will only lightly powder my face just as you demonstrated. I also prefer shopping vintage or on line, and rarely enter a major retail store. YAASSS ME TOO!!!! Whenever I buy something designer or high end, I ALWAYS go to Google images and check out how it looks on other people. If i can’t find an image because it’s vintage or really out of season, lol than I just usually buy it anyway...no images to few images mean to me, that hardly anyone else has the piece!

@@KarenBritChick They last for awhile, but since you have color in your hair, you may need extra treatments to address for that fact. Deep conditioning, hot oil treatments, regular trims and believe it or not changing up your shampoo's and conditioner is also a good idea (build up happens over time) so a good clarifying shampoo is also helpful. I used mine just this past Friday and my hair was super soft which was what I was looking for since the ends were really dry. It's a process, so change a few other components.
Love your 2 colour rule, Karen. I can see how it lets layered outfits be less cluttered looking than they might be if 3+ colours were in play. Love ya style. My tips re brown vs black - for bags: if you can only buy one good staple bag, go for a rich brown - so much better than a lot of dull, flat black leathers around. Exception is if black is croc, mock croc, suede, eel skin, woven leather etc (tend to apply this to shoes too). Kitty.

Ok I had to hit pause. This is crazy I’ve been debating with myself about coloring my hair, because I’m scared of damage (it happened in the past). So right before this video I was watching your summer essentials video and I kept thinking I’ve got to color my hair and I’ve got to go buy that wig. See two days ago I searched you on Pinterest (getting style ideas) and there was a pin about your hair/wigs. So you stated u have the Vanessa la jay. I just bought the la jay two weeks ago, but mine definitely doesn’t look like yours. It’s extremely frizzy like a huge blow out. It’s not bad just not what I was looking for. Hey! I just wanted to say that I love your videos. I enjoy your thoughts behind them. In addition to that I find your shopping style quite similar to mine. Colours, patterns and fabrics. That’s why I struggle with online shopping because I’d always want to know how they feel on my skin. In old days, we used mayonnaise to condition hair. Then use White Vinegar mixed in water to rinse.

I actually travel from the mid-west to NYC to shop at the thrift stores. I have a map and spend the day,doing it for years. I have a Rachel Roy dress, overalls and jean jacket that I love.
Hi Karen, I always learn something new watching your videos but really connected with this one. Yes, I too love a dewy look and will only lightly powder my face just as you demonstrated. I also prefer shopping vintage or on line, and rarely enter a major retail store. YAASSS ME TOO!!!! Whenever I buy something designer or high end, I ALWAYS go to Google images and check out how it looks on other people. If i can’t find an image because it’s vintage or really out of season, lol than I just usually buy it anyway...no images to few images mean to me, that hardly anyone else has the piece!

Hey Karen, you might want to consider purchasing a hair steamer (available at Sallys) it really helps with moisture for us naturally curly hair girls.

@@KarenBritChick They last for awhile, but since you have color in your hair, you may need extra treatments to address for that fact. Deep conditioning, hot oil treatments, regular trims and believe it or not changing up your shampoo's and conditioner is also a good idea (build up happens over time) so a good clarifying shampoo is also helpful. I used mine just this past Friday and my hair was super soft which was what I was looking for since the ends were really dry. It's a process, so change a few other components.
Love your 2 colour rule, Karen. I can see how it lets layered outfits be less cluttered looking than they might be if 3+ colours were in play. Love ya style. My tips re brown vs black - for bags: if you can only buy one good staple bag, go for a rich brown - so much better than a lot of dull, flat black leathers around. Exception is if black is croc, mock croc, suede, eel skin, woven leather etc (tend to apply this to shoes too). Kitty.

Ok I had to hit pause. This is crazy I’ve been debating with myself about coloring my hair, because I’m scared of damage (it happened in the past). So right before this video I was watching your summer essentials video and I kept thinking I’ve got to color my hair and I’ve got to go buy that wig. See two days ago I searched you on Pinterest (getting style ideas) and there was a pin about your hair/wigs. So you stated u have the Vanessa la jay. I just bought the la jay two weeks ago, but mine definitely doesn’t look like yours. It’s extremely frizzy like a huge blow out. It’s not bad just not what I was looking for. That’s why I struggle with online shopping because I’d always want to know how they feel on my skin.
