Hi guys,i am a member and driver of Crystal Palace RC Car Club . A big thanks for your help, and at the moment, we need all the help we can get. can't wait to see you guys at the track👍
I used to go visit the Crystal Palace RC club as a child. Whenever my mum took me to the park that was the only part i wanted to see. I could hear the nitro cars racing round before I could see them and I'd end up running over the little hill opposite the track so i could watch them, I must of been 7-8 years old. Then when I was 10 my granddad would drive for 40 minutes from Dartford to let me watch them. We'd sit in the car eating sandwiches whilst watching them race round and I'd have the window down so i could hear them and smell them. After a few trips I got the confidence to step out and talk to a couple of the racers, and they were all very friendly and more than happy to show me their cars. I remember this 1/5 scale that was up on its stand and he was showing me that it had real brake discs and i was just mind blown. The speed of the 1/8 scales, I used to call them jet cars lol I hope Crystal Palace RC can stay, 32 now and those memories will be with me forever.
Great video guys. You talking about not seeing West London being as busy as the old days brought back some memories. I used to race at the original WLRC at the Target Roundabout on the A40. Summer - off road on grass. Winter - Rallycross on tarmac and grass with saloon bodies and 4 minute heats. We moved to Pole Hill Park and had a fantastic venue with a purpose built on road circuit and a great area with lovely grass and we’d get 100+ entries week in week out. We got a new race control (shipping container with stairs) and rostrum and the first meeting with it was a success. We raced at a club called RC Wheels in Sudbury on Monday evenings and many of the RCW committee members were involved with WLRC. They told us that first Monday that some scrotes had broken into the race control hut and set fire to it. Absolutely gutted. We got a new one and it didn’t happen again. Someone did steal a car and drive it into the park and smash through the barrier and left it beached on the Armco. It was a Renault Clio from memory. Off road died off a bit in the region and WLRC became an on road club only, sad that off road died but great the club was thriving. Have a look at the WLRC Facebook page - loads of great pics from back in the day on there.
A tale as old as time. One of the most prestigious tracks here was closed down about 20 years ago because the owner of the property said he wants to park more trucks there. He did that for about two weeks (enough to destroy the nice asphalt since it was summer) but then stopped. Now it's an unused wasteland. We used to have an indoor track you could run 8th scale nitro offroad at, not sure what exactly happened but it's been gone for a long time aswell. There was a literal indoor RC heaven closeby too. Carpet offroad and asphalt (!) onroad, large enough for modified. Nice facility, nice people, but someone else needed another warehouse and was able to outbid them. Another track got shut down because the property owner decided he wanted to build a house there from one day to the next, been almost two years now nothing's happened (other than the rostrum being dismantled but that was done by the club within a week after getting officially kicked out). To top it off recently a ton of tracks have been getting shut down because there are people around making sure tracks shut down. Our track got temporarily shut down (for 2 years) too because of noise complaints and it's in a goddamn industrial area without any noise regulations. Even the crawler guys weren't allowed to use it, likewot? Few years before that we had to move because the property owner wanted to use it for truck parking, he actually did, so at least that's understandable I guess. Another track was shut down because parts of it were too close to the Autobahn and there's an ancient law from the 27mhz AM days that says you can't use radio equipment within a set range to the Autobahn, brilliant!
Can you do a video on all these different on-road classes please. MTC, LMP Fronties ect, I have no clue what cars these are. Also maybe a video on marshaling. Keep up the great work 👍
Nice work as always guys. I've been there with the garlic (garlic prawns in a little iron pot in butter). It comes out on your skin. Good to hear RC racig is doing so well in the UK. It's also a time where you can get a decent car to race for not too much, and they are easier to set up than back in the golden age.
Yesterday we went to the autosport show and they had the RC drift cars and they were brilliant fun to watch. Probably the best thing at the show outside the live action arena
I think you tube has helped pull RC back from the brink people like your good selves have had a lot to do with it. It was only by chance that I came across your channel but once I saw those Tamiya cars going round it rekindled my enthusiasm for the sport and for that I owe you a big thankyou.
You definitely have a big influence on the hobby, ive just bought a tamiya truck and a team associated rb10 buggy because of your videos First meeting is this Sunday
I got my self ftx vantage and dr8 because of this channel and now we don't hear much about them here anymore even have my vintage carbon fibre to the max .
You guys have bought me back into the hobby 😊. I bought the brusless zoro off the back of your review. And started at the indoor raceway last year off the back of your channel keep up the good work lads. Don't go to fancy with your video's as what you are doing now is great, and not to pretentious or big headed. Stay normal 😂👍
This definitely the golden era for me as I've only just started racing . Had rcs since the 80s everything from 1/10 electric ,1/8 nitro even 1/5 2stroke But only just taken the plunge into racing after watching the oswestry revival really enjoying it 👍
Im pretty sure the scotch egg pie is a real thing 👍 its deffo getting a lot bigger this year, i think the sheer number of classes has helped a lot, back in the day it was mainly buggys. Hopefully the BRCA can get a voice in when clubs are looking at loosing there grounds. Keep up the great work guys.
Is it that nowadays radio, esc, putting together and setting up a car or buggy AND various people on You Tube (yourselves included... LOL) make getting in to, and on with the hobby so much easier than it used to be?? I would think it is a lot easier today than it used to be and therefore a new "golden era" for RC racing is already upon us. 🙂🙂
When you look at how quickly gear can sell out it shows there’s a load taking up the hobby. Regarding the Crystal Palace situation, could you not have a word or even get someone from the British Radio Car Association onto your channel and have a chat about it ? That part of the southeast doesn’t need another football pitch, there’s 💩tonnes of them round there. Keep up the great work you two 👍
Speaking as an old'un, having recently dug out my old Optima mid, I think the main barrier to me getting back involved is not wanting to go straight back into racing against people who have been doing it for ages when I haven't for over 30 years. I'd just like to try running the car on a track without the pressure of getting in anybody's way (there's always someone who takes things too seriously!). Any thoughts on getting back into it without immediately looking like a prat?!
@@PopalongRC Thanks - so is there a good place to look to understand where such clubs exist or is it a case of using Google, visiting a few and just scope them out? I literally would want to try running the car pretty much as I found it when I got my pitbox out of my parents loft and decide where I take it from there if I find myself enjoying it again
I like the coffee and pie (and scotch egg) donation option, but the problem is it doesn't have a recurring donation so it's probably a bit less dependable for you?
Can't speak for others but I don't care about the Patreon members-only _extra_ stuff - just keep doing what you're doing - and if there's any easy way for people to chip in a little each month that would be grand.
My wife is going to make a switch egg pie on the weekend can't wait a great idea you guys always suprise me. I agree football is the slowest game ever we told some guys that when we were in England flr work al.ost had a pub brawl there a very sensitive bunch(sorry to any football fans watching but it's so slow compared to Aussie rules)

They are doing great for the hobby. And a great entry point to race. Also, England seems to have a great rc culture. And It maybe because of KT
Garlic Scotch Eggs, thats a good idea.Heres a bit of Cash for that idea,or just get a drop of Petrol.(or for those in the USA Gas).KT taught me that.✌️

Things that are so much easier today - ie, aerials of ridiculous length, brushed motors overheating, mechanical escs.... Sure you can think of more...
Wish we had Tamiya classes where I live
