The best battle of the race no doubt. Was a three way battle with Treluyer too for most of the race, he gave them quite a tough time. At least until his tires wore out that is
I cant even describe how awesome this is.. so grateful to see this incredible event produce such rarefied spectacle. Brings a tear to my eye! Hope to join you all some day.
Find a way to get there next year - you only live once! This was my 4th visit, coming all the way from Australia as many of us do, complete with period costumes to enjoy the greatest classic car experience in the world. Even partners love it - something for everyone
I have followed road racing since the days of Jimmy Clark and Dan Gurney, I have to say this series has been the most exciting and well produced road racing I have ever seen. Terrific racing!!!
It doesn't get any better than St , Mary's !!!! These road cars that you and I might drive , and piloted by some of greatest drivers EVER , is the pinnacle of Goodwood !!!!!
wooooo....best race I´ve seen for years. What beautiful cars. I love the Austins and the Standard ( as a Triumph fan ) ...the Alfa is also amazing. Who needs formula 1 or formula e ?
Ill say it. I grew up 1970s/80s f1 & it was exciting dangerous racing that kept my attention. Then it went down hill in all aspects. Then i see this & was immediately hooked brilliant racing brilliant commentary & again brilliant race to watch. I come from a time as a kid of stock car racing in the local field with orange tape & common sense to keep you safe-ish 😁.
St Marys is worth the admission price into goodwood just to watch these two races Such a great variety of of cars,I remember a few years ago seeing a rear v8 engined tatra With the biggest pair of megaphones sticking out the back it sounded awesome
A extremely entertaning race all the 1950s and 1960s cars racing l remember a lot of these cars from my childhood and this in Australia and they weren't paticualy fast l remember a Standard Vanguard with twin carburetors doing 100 mph but l am sure a lot of these cars were touching 100 mph and also drifting
This the first time that I've seen this class. I agree with all of the positive comments below. b70ody awesome racing! Well done who ever (all of you) that put this together. And, thanks to everyone who works to put the Goodwood Festival on, it provides alot of entertainment!
I watched many of the races here this year, but this is my favourite. In other races the cars were more 'Sporty', but this race is filled with cars I saw on the roads growing up.
Used to go to Formula One in the 1970s and without all the electronics on them , there was always a race with Cars like these as well at the same meeting ....happy days 😊
Nobody thinks about F1 more than people who say they hate F1 lmaooo bro just enjoy the racing you don't have to eternally compare stuff to F1 to convince yourself you have better taste than others.
100% agree. So many over takes, cars with completely different power and weights , flat out . I still watch F1 but it doesn’t entertain like historic touring cars
Motorsports needs a universal leader board ticker. I'm pretty sure there were more than 10 cars out there. Would have been nice to see all the names in the field as well as the manufacturer's. This happens in every sport with a leader board pretty much and it's so annoying without all the info. That being said, we're definitely lucky to be able to see this at all. Such a great race!
That was fun to watch, that's how racing should be in all motorsports. ;-) To be honest, I thought, towards the end the Jag was going to take the lead from the heavier T-bird. I saw a race where an experienced local driver in a Triumph TR6 was battling for first with a well known driver new to the track and new Porsche 924. The Porsche driver won, but on the podium remarked; "I'm getting a TR6". ;-D
Being a Ford fan, I was never a follower of Jimmy Johnson, but boy oh boy did JJ and JB put on a show. Throw on a set of off road tires, and it might even be more competitive
When he was in cup he just seemed like a watered down Jeff Gordon with 2-3 of his ‘chips being won because of the playoff format and I would dare anyone to name any memorable/legendary wins by him. Whereas with Earnhardt, there are endless moments people can recall. JJ could have 11 Championships and he won’t be as memorable as a Davey Allison, Earnhardt, Gordon, Tony Stewart etc. ALL that being said, I’ve grown to really like him post NASCAR, he is a world class wheelman and can drive anything no doubt about it
Most of the cars racing at Goodwood are categorized as 'Historic' so they use tires approved for their respective sizes. For example, the "450 L13 Dunlop Historic Race Tyre" would be used on many of the saloons with 13" wheel rims, including the Button Alfa and Jimmy Johnson Austin A40. They are a treaded tire, as required by the rules, using a period tread pattern with modern but durable rubber compound. They probably grip less well than the Kumho sport tires on my Range Rover SC.
This type of racing proves how bad modern motorsport is. This is what we want to see, cars on the ragged edge, sideways, moving about. Not 220mph things that have so much downforce the racing has to be artificially altered to create overtakes.
Jenson Button doing a great job in that little Alfa Giulietta Veloce since it's only a 1300cc (not a 1500 like the announcer said). Most of the other cars have twice the engine!
Could this be the best race we've ever had?
Yea
Yep the race between Jenson and Jimmy was Epic.
Revival racing is always the best, how cars should always race!
Where else are you going to see F1 and NASCAR champs battling in 50s saloon cars?! Amazing battle to watch
Yes, cream of the crop of drivers in this scrap.
I'm glad the full races are being posted again. I love watching these machine move. So much more exciting than modern races.
Spectacular race. No doubt Jimmy Johnson and Jenson button had a great time!!!
The best battle of the race no doubt. Was a three way battle with Treluyer too for most of the race, he gave them quite a tough time. At least until his tires wore out that is
Jimmie and Jenson put on a fantastic battle all race long. First class guys
10 times more entertaining than a Formula 1 race .
Facts!
you forgot a few zeros there..
Tyre choice, 2 sec pit stops , nah just drive it !
Absolutely!
More than 10x
The quality of driving in this race is just top class, car control is on a another level, a joy to watch
And those cars can't be that easy to control!
Great drivers, lovely old cars, close-fought racing (often sideways) and even beautiful weather - Goodwood never disappoints!
Amazing seeing Jimmy vs Jenson in person - some of the best racing ive ever seen - fantastic.
So much fun to watch! Old cars, not buildt for racing, been raced hard!
Amazing drives from all the drivers! And Tom Kristensen from 24 to 3rd place - that's out of this world... What a champ!
❤❤❤ for real right
Just leaving it all on the track 😊
Thank you for the best racing of the year in any category.
As a NASCAR fan, I have to say that THIS is real racing here. Love it!
That was a great race, with incredible camera work. Thanks for posting!
absolutly amazing, i was at goodwood on saturday, any petrolhead must go to this nirvana of motorsport.
I was there watching this race, AWESOME !!, hats off to the Austin a40 (grey car) driver, amazing battle with Jenson👍
this is better than all modern raceing! wake up call to all those incharge of top end motorsport
I cant even describe how awesome this is.. so grateful to see this incredible event produce such rarefied spectacle. Brings a tear to my eye! Hope to join you all some day.
Loved every second of that better than watching F1 🏁🏁🏁🏁
Thanks for posting the full race. Historic saloon cars are wonderful to watch - you never know what you're going to see.
Jowett, Saab and Riley!
Love the cheeky A40 - what a fast little car it is!
What great race and that A40 was really on song. Wonderful memories of the successful Downton A40 my pal used to work on in the 1960's.✌️🇬🇧
This is the best racing series on the planet at the moment.
I Love revival time of year! I never manage to get down, so watching these races here is just brilliant!!
Find a way to get there next year - you only live once! This was my 4th visit, coming all the way from Australia as many of us do, complete with period costumes to enjoy the greatest classic car experience in the world. Even partners love it - something for everyone
What an exciting race to rewatch again. Top class driving in these old cars. Thanks for keeping these races posted.
I have followed road racing since the days of Jimmy Clark and Dan Gurney, I have to say this series has been the most exciting and well produced road racing I have ever seen. Terrific racing!!!
That's fantastic. You're a very lucky man. I'm too young to have seen racing that far back but I envy you.
Thank you for posting this great race
It doesn't get any better than St , Mary's !!!! These road cars that you and I might drive , and piloted by some of greatest drivers EVER , is the pinnacle of Goodwood !!!!!
Utterly utterly fantastic, proper racing by proper drivers…..
Great to watch much better than watching modern stuff
wooooo....best race I´ve seen for years. What beautiful cars. I love the Austins and the Standard ( as a Triumph fan ) ...the Alfa is also amazing. Who needs formula 1 or formula e ?
Love it! The only motor racing left where the commentary team still say "ding dong"
So much fun seeing great drivers, racing each other hard with skill and respect. You know they had a blast doing this!
Hats off to Jimmy Johnson, a long way from home, and a long way from what he usually drives (Nascar).
And in a right hand drive too!
as far as NASCAR goes, they still have h-shifters, although with power shifting, i can imagine it was familiar to him from the start
@@joaquingonzalez834they switched to a 5 speed sequential transaxle in 2022
@@prmafrozt2943 great to know, though jimmy johnson had raced in nascar long before that i must say
Wow! Unlike F1 this is proper racing. All skill and engagement.
Ill say it. I grew up 1970s/80s f1 & it was exciting dangerous racing that kept my attention. Then it went down hill in all aspects. Then i see this & was immediately hooked brilliant racing brilliant commentary & again brilliant race to watch. Fantastic camera work that complements the equaly brilliant driving and beautifuly prepaired machines ,just awsome!
Best race this year
They definitely need a series of this racing it will take over F1
I live for this time of year. Pure racing, pure driving skill, beautiful cars. All the love!
This is such an absolute joy to watch! beautiful cars, exciting race and great drivers
How much fun was that??? Fantastic stuff. So many different cars sliding all over the place.
I love it real driving skills use all the power you got !
St Marys is worth the admission price into goodwood just to watch these two races

Who could ever have imagined seeing Jimmie Johnson racing an Austin A40.
Have to say, he took to it like a duck to water.
You guys nailed the camera angles and production this year 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Its amazing to see this cars racing, thank you so much for sharing !
The touring car races are always the best!
Goodwood, superb cars and thrilling racing of course, and the production values get better every year - love the in car rear facing camera.
An F1 world champion versus arguably the greatest NASCAR driver of the modern era. Where else but Goodwood?
I saw cars on here, I NEVER would have expected to see on the racetrack! Fantastic stuff!!!
This the first time that I've seen this class. I agree with all of the positive comments below. b70ody awesome racing! Well done who ever (all of you) that put this together. And, thanks to everyone who works to put the Goodwood Festival on, it provides alot of entertainment!
I love how you can feel the speed, very entertaining
I watched many of the races here this year, but this is my favourite. In other races the cars were more 'Sporty', but this race is filled with cars I saw on the roads growing up.
That's Motorsport. I love it. And I believe we have no race series (including GT3, WEC etc) which is so exciting.
Great race, so cool to watch these old cars being driven at the limit.
This what call seat of the pants racing just brilliant
Always the best race class of the goodwood revival
Awesome battle, flat out, so exiting!🎉
What a great race, fantastic to see these classics driven like proper racing cars by a top tier grid of drivers!
Just wonderful to watch. Thanks for posting such great footage.
this old school cars are amazimg
Fantastic battle between Jimmie & Jensen
12:40 .. Wow ! Very nicely weaved through the tight gap!
Used to go to Formula One in the 1970s and without all the electronics on them , there was always a race with Cars like these as well at the same meeting ....happy days 😊
3 F1 season's worth of excitement in 30 minutes!
Absolute spot on!

Proper race cars, no downforce, no grip, but handle beautifully = EPIC racing!!!!
That was one of the most entertaining races I have watched. Brilliant driving.
Just fantastic racing, more entertaining than any current series, and what a drive from Mr Le Mans TK
Just watching these cars Bloody fantastic fantastic 👍😉💯 Upload more, please.
Thoroughly enjoying!
Great racing and great commentary too 👏🏻
That was a battle to be proud of for 4th place!
The St Mary's Trophy is always a highlight of the weekend to watch for me.
The most incredible mix of cars I've ever seen race. Brilliant. Was disappointed to see the Standard Vanguard drop out of the top 10.

best race EVER !!!!!!! just awesome driving all round .
Favourite car in the entire field for me is the little Alfa driven by JB, small but mighty 🍀
Excellent race, interesting cars, legendary drivers, beautiful close driving. Does racing get any better than this?
Had the same color 1959 T Bird , great fun to watch.
That was fun to watch, that's how racing should be in all motorsports. ;-)

Kudos to Jimmie Johnson, squirreling that little Austin around with such verve. Who knew he had more than left turns in him?
How is this more exciting than F1
I absolutely enjoyed this race
This is honestly some of the best racing ive ever seen
Have to stop watching every now and then just to get my heart rate down again. Man alive this is edge of the seat level exciting.
That was epic! What a race
Fantastic to see, Jimmy in that A40 is superb lol.
la percorrenza in curva della giulietta è il top...peccato che manca un pò di velocità di punta
My mum had an A40 - I don't remember it going like that...
Best race i've seen in a long time
Tom Kristensen is an absolute animal

@@philipgrice1026 it was just a joke man. Even the announces commented on how much they were off track
My favorite part is where i got a glimpse of that beautiful pack of beasts
Some cars are so damn fast, its hard to appreciate em ❤❤❤
Excellent racing. Thanks!
Once Johnson gets the hang of turning right , he's going to be a force to be reckoned with

ok this was entertaining as it could be, what a beautiful race that was! And that big thunderbird walked away with a win.
REAL cars racing, can’t see electric cars giving this much pleasure in the future!!
I don't know how they avoid contact when they're so on the limit (and sometimes beyond it!)
Jimmy Johnson is a revelation. Great racing all.
Great race ❤
