    How many times did Dennis smash the break and the cue ball just back up to exact center table and stop. That is phenomenal.

      Gamblo Duck as "annoying" the announcer is he kind of grows on you after about 20 videos or so. And you have to think if shes hosting the players there must be a respect level there. Great comment btw

    Wow amazing match. I've always enjoyed playing pool but never tried to do it in a competitive setting. I just started playing APA matches and am having the time of my life, watching players like Orcollo and Van Boening is amazingly inspirational. They really know how to make this game an art.

    back last year shane commentated for the Clash of Titans tournament (videos are here in youtube) and he opined that the best player in the planet right now is dennis orcollo, even mentioning dennis is the toughest to beat in challenge matches. my top 3 players right now is orcollo, ko pin yi, and shane. it would be fun to watch these guys do a race to 120 just like what they do in TAR tournaments.

    I've seen Dennis practice here in the Phils. He practices so much on his break and how the rack is made up. If the rack isn't done consistently you wouldn't get consistent breaks. It looks bad because it becomes mechanical but from what I've seen from Dennis' practice, its no joke figuring out the break shot. He really works hard on perfecting his break.

    The other day, Dennis was playing a practice 9 ball match ($50) with another Pinoy pro player. It was a race to 16, Dennis lost 16-13. There were 4 instances when Dennis broke dry. The balls really didn't get good rolls. After the match, he concluded through experiment that the balls weren't racked consistently (because it was not really a big time match, the guy racking wasn't a pro referee). He eventually figured out the break within 15 practice break shots.

    I remember back in the late 90's i watched Gabica run 13 racks straight against Dennis. after being stuck from his chair, Dennis got his turn, then scratched after his 2nd shot. He was so angry that he just laughed a curse very loud. then everybody laughed. Antonio Gabica broke the rack and played very consistently that day. the game ended 17-3 Gabica. =))

    Except for the wobble in the middle of the match, Dennis played some of the best 10-ball I have ever seen. Shane made some bad errors, but I think part of that was the pressure Dennis put him under.

  • @otdave2784
    @otdave2784 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That strategy was tried in the 90s but it was abandoned because it virtually eliminates safety play, which makes the game not as interesting. I agree, they should have a time limit but maybe 45 seconds. In the Mosconi cup. I think they have a 30 sec shot clock with one extension allowed per game.

    Jay doesn't know what to say. I suspect he's Alvin's cousin. They always do commentary as if the audience has never seen a pool table. They dramatize a simple kick, as if it's nearly impossible and they never shut up. A joy to mute.

    What cue is dennis using in this match?

    • @POVPOOL
      @POVPOOL  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dennis is using a Tiger TL-3 Cue made by Tiger Products, which are now discontinued. There are only 2 left in stock at Tiger which I can make available to you if you're interested. Email me at daniel@tigerproducts.com. Seyberts Billiard Supply also has a few left in stock. With and Irish linen wrap and one shaft, this cue will sell for around $940 but if you want one directly from Tiger with a leather wrap, additional shaft and a cue extension kit, you should contact me.

    • @francesgerardgenil1592
      @francesgerardgenil1592 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh crap. LOL - I didn't watch this. I got mixed up and thought this was the Orcollo match with Jayson Shaw which, was 2 years after this one. Yeah - I'm not sure what he was using here. Maybe a Schon or a Tim Scruggs. I'll have to ask him when I see him this coming July. Sorry bout that.

    I've been listening to Jay Helfertfor years, and usualy he's fine. Unfortunately here Jay, I'm sorry to say, you made it hard for me to even watch this amazing match. You grind the most obvious observations into the ground, and even though you are a commentating here, you are commentating way to much and too often. Take a breath! Also, when you were stating that it was super quiet for a packed house and dennis missed that ball, I think you probably had something to do with it. LESS IS MORE, JAY!

      Not only is repeating himself annoying. The "absoluteness" of the commentary is unbelievable. Saying stuff like, "Dennis is thinking about ...", and, "There's NO way Shane will shoot at that...", is ridiculous. Pretty much EVERY time the commentator said something, the shooters went and did what he said wouldn't happen. I had to eventually turn the audio off.

    then why is pool not watched like golf? people give golf that respect, obviously they are not for pool. when you watch golf, there are multiple players that can be watched, when you watch a pool match you are stuck watching one guy take 5 min to walk around the table 5 times, chaulk his stick 6 times, get into his stance 3 times only to get back up and walk around the table again. it needs to be faster paced.
