      Yes!
Between the 'magic rack' and the amount of video, I'm surprised we haven't seen longer runs.
I know the old gambling road players can recall longer runs with wood racks.
I walked out on Mike Carella when he had run 7 racks playing $100 a game, was told later he ran 13 total (then 12 by another rail bird, perhaps games in a row vs racks run) Circa 1979...

Most I've ever heard of as far as break and runs in a row was 45 racks of 9 ball by Don Willis the famous hustler that didn't play in tournaments back like in the 1950s or so.

Congrats Dennis! Absolutely incredible that not only that he only had two (2) tough shots on the 1 ball on 11 breaks in a row & the fact that after all of those 11 breaks he had a shot on the first ball on everyone of those breaks. Then great playing to complete each rack with not many tough shots. Straight up Awesome! Cheers

Earl ran 11 racks, in this run Earl made the 9 ball 6 times.thats over 50% percent of the break and run of 11 racks.he also cleaned the balls before each break, Johnny Archer ran 13 racks and still lost 10 thousand to Francisco Bustamante. Mike Massey ran 13 racks on 2 different tables 6 on one and 7 on the other. Jack Hines ran 21 racks. Keith Mccready ran 22. he also has runs of 9-10 and 13 racks.Buddy Hall has run 15 racks. Wade Crane has run 15 racks and in tournament play has run 18 racks.9 racks in two separate matches. All of these runs were made without the magic rack. 9 on the spot Corey Deuel ran 11 racks against Mika Immonen 9 ball on the spot. The World record on a bar table. Diamond bar-box.was set in 2017. The record is 32 racks.some say its 33 its not.his opponent broke and scratched so he did not break and run the first rack and the magic rack was used.one ball on the spot.also he did not win the tournament.and he was double dipped in the finals.the tournament format was race to 11. Sky Woodward Music City Open he broke and ran 3 sets Ray Hansen has it on video. Antonio Gabica ran like 14 racks 2004 Filipino Open Finals playing none other than Dennis Orcollo.

Pat Lynch ran 17 racks on Bernie Schwartz in Pittsburgh around 1971-72. In a money game.
I saw Greg Stevens give Pat Lynch the 6-7-8-9, took the break, and came up 20 games ahead in about 30 minutes. Break & run 8-10 racks; break & run 10-12 in Rockville Md. The next day in Silver Hill Md he gave Weenie Beenie 5-6-7-8-9, took the break, and was beating him to death (he had been up 2+ days playing everybody who would take that game) Beenie was sharp witted. He knew they would have to stop playing when Joe Balsis came to give an exhibition. So Stevens laid down on a bench during the exhibition. When he got back up, he couldn't make a ball....Beenie busted him! Stevens absolutely would break and run out
80-90% of the time; he was known to string 10's & 15"s routinely! and he ran around the table, break anf out in 1-1 1/2 minutes. it took longer to rack the balls, than him running out!

Running out after that BS break, where the corner ball goes in every time is no great feat whatsoever. I've been out of pool for 40 years, i don't understand what's going on here, but you must be racking the balls higherup...its all phony, and thinking something is great here, just isn't so. When I started watching all these old videos, proclaiming Reyes the GOAT,
and saw his weak break in 9-ball, i knew he couldn't stand up to Willis, Lassiter, Worst, and Steven's consistence breaks! All that safety play only comes into play, if your getting the break, and if your constantly looking at 5-8 racks run against you, Efren would get weak at the knees like everyone else. Efren was the GOAT for a 25 year run. He probably would have been a
top tier straight pool player, if he learned the correct way. 9-ball no way, his break was too weak. His best game was one pocket, it would have been interesting to see him play Worst, who was World Champion 3-cushion player for 14 years before he died at 36. If anything Efren taught the American players that they better learn the basic Diamond system.

He did it on a 9 foot diamond table, 9 on the spot, with 4.5 inch pockets, using a magic rack. It was not recorded, but they had at least 20 people watch it happen, including me. His name is Abrin Shaad, he's called Hurricane Abe, his fargo is 749, and he won the US Amateur championship a couple years ago, he also won the APA Nationals in Vegas, and he is from Pekin Illinois, he did it at a pool hall called Racks on the Rocks in Peoria Illinois.

When players are at this level, it's more about getting rolls and having stamina in strength, nerves, and concentration, so it takes a longer race of at least 100 to determine the truly better player.
Short races, to like 5 or 7, etc. is not a good determination of the best player because anything can happen over the course of just a few games.

I think there's way too many strong opinions in this comment section, lol. It's a great run, excellent play by Denis and a good upload. Just enjoy the damn video 😆
I also think it's tough to compare this to Earl's run because of the equipment differences: template rack (makes the break almost a science, no matter which ball is on the spot, whereas Earl was breaking a less predictable rack, so he had to wail em and hope something dropped), cloth (faster here), pocket size (Earl was probably playing on larger pockets), plus Earl's weren't all full table clearances (a few early 9s). Also I think Earl was only racing to 11, so he stopped when he won the match (I could be wrong about that).

Idk, using a magic rack and pattern racking is.....a little advantage for a steady pattern and having a particular ball being made almost every time. Not taking anything away from Dennis but WR, should be done with balls placed randomly and using a regular rack. Js

    • @TaxiSlim
      @TaxiSlim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree that the balls should be placed randomly, but regular racks are like umpires' "personalized" strike zones. What's wrong with having a consistent rack every game? All the checking and re-racking with regular racks is maddening to anyone who doesn't have a money stake in the outcome. (See Dechaine, Mike, or Hatch, Dennis.)

This was incredible to watch when it happened, however, racking with a magic rack makes all of these things a lot easier.
Combined with the fact that we have better balls better equipment and everything.
I'm just a regular old amateur, and racking with the nine on the spot using the cut break 85% of the time I can play shape on the one or the two.
Unfortunately, I don't shoot as good as these two and I satisfy the European break rules no problem You need to hit the rack that hard to get the cue ball to make it to the rail and draw back out towards the middle of the table. So there's no magic there.
Dennis is one of my favorite players to watch and this is the favorite matchup of this time in pool. I think they should simply go to 13 ball to change all of this up. Because in 13 balls you will definitely make a ball on a break, however there will be more clusters and more obstacles.
The reason why Dennis won't play Shane and 10 ball is because he knows there's more randomness in 10 ball than 9 ball and Shane break is better there That's a decided advantage where as a 9 ball with this template rack in this setup Dennis has a better chance because overall he's a better shotmaker anposition player than Shane, (Filipino rotation AKA 61) I'm splitting hairs here though... it's by a small amount maybe a percent and a half.
So Dennis, being a smart gambler. Switch to 9 ball because that takes away Shane's decided advantage of breaking and he can control more of the game. So out of 7 or 8 long races they have played Debbie has won the last two so I think he would try to stick with 9 ball and Shane will keep playing 9 ball with him until he beats him.
So with that in mind, get ready for round 3 in about 60 days.
Dennis is going to try to get his money back from Skyler now.
