The truth of the man he was, not the legends we are taught in the scholia as children." Dante's face showing but the slightest hint of emotion as he spoke his request. Robute's face showed a moment of sorrow, then he smiled. "Of everything the legends say of my brother, this one thing is most true; Sanguinius was the greatest among us. What I respected most about him, and as I am shamed to admit quite jealous of, was how easy it was to like him. Of us all, he was the only to befriend each of our brothers. His presence bringing the warmth of brotherly love from those brothers who rivalries were not unlike hatred."
To continue the story: Guilliman looks up to the sky as if expecting his brother to descend from them as Dante steps towards the parapets and looks over the desert. Dante: "My father was many things to the blood. Gene-sire, primarch, legend. But perhaps the more important thing that he was, was a brother to you, my lord. I sense your solitude and sorrow having awoken to a broken empire such as what we have now." Dante looks up to Guilliman whose gaze still affixed to the sky. A sense of kinship fills Dante as he looks at the primarch despite them not sharing lineage. Guilliman:"He was my brother, yes. As i have said he was the best of us. We had him then but now he is not with us. But his blood runs strong in your chapter, his sons and all your successor chapters share this strength as well. Let us look to ourselves on matters that concern the now but not forgetting his memory for though i may want him here with me, i have no power to pull him from death. We must move forward with what we have now." Dante looks down at the helmet he held in his left hand. The one thing he had of his father that he could hold. Dante:"yes, my lord. Our father, your brother may be long gone but his teachings and blood still indeed runs strong in us and we will endure. My deepest gratitude for the small kindness you have given me." Guilliman averts his eyes from the sky to now look at dante. His right hand pointing to sanguinuis' helm. Guilliman:"keep it safe, dante. For though you are the one who bears it in battle, it is my brother's face etched on it."
Guilliman is right in building up the Empirium into something beautiful and worth defending. More of the galaxy should have been more like the 500 worlds of Ultramar.
he is probably the only living being(outside of chaos) who really know what the imperium should have been and what the great crusade was trying to accomplish.

Indeed, I thought the same thing too. Must be why Guilleman didn't mention Sanguinius name when he speaks to Dante. Guilleman is just too lonely at the moment. He wanted to have someone that he can speak to openly. He needs his actual brothers. The chatty ones would be nice haha.

Everyone is overlooking something very important here. Guilliman, who lived through Warmaster Horus's betrayal of the Emperor himself; arguably just decided to appoint what is essentially ANOTHER WARMASTER. We KNOW Gulliman understood the irony, dangers and given his character even the potential HYPOCRICY of doing this. Thats how worried and perhaps even frieghtened Guilliman is about the state of the Imperium. He is attempting to succeed where even his father failed...
Akios Eres Mah man, you need to read up the dark imperium novels, Bobby G, said multiple times when he woke up he regretted slimming down the legions to chapters he felt he made a mistake and then he starts the indomitable crusade and basically broke the rules with the primarius guys I think the are the “unamed sons” or something like that but yeah Bobby ultimately sees his flaws in wreaking the astartes and changes the rules my HOMIE lolol
Horus fell to Chaos simply because he was open-minded. The Blood Angels and its sucessors chapters are true believers of the Imperial cult, with Dante always setting an example. They'll be fine.
It's not lost on him, he knows the indommitus crusade was waged by a legion in all by name (Unnumbered Sons) and had to broke them off into the existing chapters and new ones for that reason And when Mathieu, his apostle, goes against his orders and kick-starts a series of events that save him he gets furious with him because his actions caused imperial forces to fight each other, reminding him too much of the heresy
@@Halfort57 I think it is the Black Templars who are the only "true" Imperial Cult followers among the Space Marines. The Blood Angels, like most other Astartes, revere the Emperor but don't actually worship Him as a god. And Horus didn't fall to Chaos because he was open-minded. He fell because he had always been very ambitious and arrogant, and the Dark Gods used that to manipulate him into turning against the Emperor. But I agree that the Blood Angels should be fine. They inherited their Primarch's humility and nobility.

Him and his sanguinary guard straight up jumped angron when he was summoned
I love the fact that Guilliman seems determined to make the Imperium actually more than just a mass of haughty nobles with planets of serfs to slave for them in a monster beaurocratic machine , like it seems so common sense to me that " if every minute of your life is shit and the devil offers you a cheeseburger , would you really turn him down?" logic of his is , and why it seems NO ONE in the ENTIRE IMPERIUM has ever considered the idea that making the worlds they live in NOT shit might actually close off roads to the eternal enemy , just boggles the mind.
Because Slaanesh exists too, and look at our world. Countries get rich, birth rates drop to shit, people start putting things in their arses. Imagine that on a galactic scale. I'll take my chances with working them so hard they don't have time to have emotions except despair and hope, and not too much of the latter. Having everyone destitute allows some radicalization which can be dealt with, giving people time to think about things is what needs to be avoided. Come on mate get your head out of your arse.
@Ved Singh I mean if you want to get real with that conversation, youtube will just delete my comments, the stats are verboten. But regarding 40k, and the extrapolations I draw from that, the framework is "survival of humanity" and within that, the subjugation of humanity to that end is fine, and a good thing in my opinion.
Thats the main reason the Emperor launch the great crusade and the reunification .. So that all human in the galaxy would live like the golden age if possible.. Unlike the current emperium now that almost hell like it self.
@Ved Singh You wouldn't consider it poverty because you would be properly indoctrinated to consider it a voluntary sacrifice, or you would be executed for heresy. I dont know what you don't get here.
Plz be aware that im not super deep on 40k lore, i just watch it on and off. Guilliman is something of an oddity in 40k. A demi god from the distant past awakening into a universe he barely recognizes. Unlike others though, he's actually setting about to do something about it. And sense right now he is quite litterally THE final say on any matter, he's not afraid to do it. He's keenly aware that he'll probubly ruffle somones feathers (no pun intended) as he goes. Appointing dante is practical but also helps solidify that he's not trying to throw out the old guard. Improving the imperium from the ground up also seems to be another of his goals. A weak foundation speaks ill of the house built upon it. And the imperiums foundation has been shaky at best for a long time. I doubt guilliman can solve all the problems or that he's fool enough to try. But he seeks to be doing what he can, where he can.
I just realized I listen to these stories for therapy. Brothers who honour each other and know their place and purpose in the great world. As it should be.
The line about seeing a Dataslate in his hands more than Weapons is perhaps the most interesting line of the story. It encapsulates what it means to command - and that for all his Fury on the Battlefield, the real battle is won and lost in Logistics, supply, organization etc.
Something to consider about the relationship between these two - Gulliman is a Primarch and the greater of the two in terms of power and authority, but Dante his actual elder. Gulliman dates from more than ten millennia ago, sure, but he spent the vast majority of that time in stasis. His active lifespan was nowhere near Dante's 1500+ years, and even though he knew and was taught by the Emperor and served in the Great Crusade and the Heresy, his experiences are a fraction of what Dante's been through. Superhuman demigod or not, Gulliman's obvious respect for Dante is perfectly understandable. To have lived so long, to have fought for the Empire for so long, and without the benefits of being a Primarch is beyond amazing. Gulliman fell in combat to one of his brothers and was left behind by time. Dante has lived through a millennia and a half and never truly met lasting defeat, not even at the hands of his own traitorous brethren. Which of them is truly the better servant of the Emperor in the end?
Gulliman did conquer 500 planets in less than a decade before being found by the Emperor.....i mean that a lone saved a lot of time during the Great Crusade. He lead the Great Scouring and reclaimed all that was lost from the Horus Hersey and created the Codex Astartes. Also fought back the 13th crusade and stabilized the Imperium and saved Terra from Khorne... Pretty efficient for servant whos been around for a few centuries.
Really interesting point. Do we know from the lore how old Guilleman is? Other factor here is that Robby G is a demigod; he’s experiencing existence at a pace far greater than Dante, so chronological age wouldn’t be be determinant between them? There’s a cool moment in ‘Know No Fear’ where we see this about Guilleman; he processes something like 1200 data bulletins in fifteen minutes whilst thinking of something else entirely.
Papa G is a conquerer, A leader, and Was part of Horus Heresy... The Horus Heresy alone gives Guilliman ten fold of experience then dante and rebuilt the imperium.
The age in which they both live are different. The times of Guilleman was of the age of crusades. The conquest age to reclaim back worlds with vast legions. The times where Primarch walks among men. The times of Sanguinius. The times where Dante served was the time of bitterness and hopelessness. The age where men had fallen to such an extent where dying would be a better choice. He persevere through it all and that itself was a miraculous deed no one can and could challenge anytime soon. Guilleman respects that and he probably even hoped that Dante could live longer until a successor comes. The Lion still slumbers.
Considering the Blood Angels already know so much about their Primarch, they seem to have the most complete memories of their gene-father, they still have their home world, many, many relics, what new knowledge could they gain from such a conversation.
@@kelman727 I dont think so. There is no objective argument to support that. All that you wrote are just your subjective wishes. On the other hand, presence of information is always objectively better than lack of it.
Empire Empire By definition there is no such thing as an objective opinion or argument. What an absurd point. It is also ignorant of writerly craft and basic plotting, and seems to even take pride in it. Guilliman only shows up at the very end of the novel after Dante has already broken the back of the Hive Fleet. The plot is resolved; no new situations or events must be introduced. Egregious info-dumping at this point merely highlights shoddy construction.
Nice touch Guilleman, humanities supreme existant being requesting to join Dante and his brothers. ''May I join you?'' The sincere humility of a being with such power and presence uses manners, a common trait of decency throughout all humanity. The author goes on to emphasise and reiterate this in the following paragraph.
I've always wondered how an astartes of another chapter would view a Primarch (not theirs), this sums it up brilliantly, with utmost respect and it seems that Guilliman really does see these Astartes as his Nephews, which was awesome. He really respects and cares for Dante, doesn't just see him as a pawn. I feel like Guilliman is one of the few perfect Primarchs, along with Vulkan and Sanguinius in terms of how they view humanity and care for others. I wish Vulkan and Sanguinius were still around to lead with Roboute, those 3 are the best Primarchs, along with Russ (becuase he's badarse).

Going by the Dante's tertiary mission to better mankind, I can see him appointing Chapter Master Tu'shan of the Salamanders to be his right hand man: both highly respected by the Blood Angel's, despite his lack of seniority, with the ability best suited for building ties with the populace. A skill that every other Chapter could only hope to emulate.
Yes, that would be a great idea, especially since the Salamanders and the Blood Angels are best buds. These two Chapters are among those who care the most for common people of the Imperium, and them teaming up would totally make sense. It's too bad Nocturne and Baal are on different sides of the Great Rift, so this alliance is virtually impossible for now.
@@Saber2793 Not necessarily. Appointments can be lead by a delegation of those who embody Salamander ideals, giving us a cache of models and story options for GW, and still operate under Dante's influence. Selecting 'Sally Chapter Master as the honorary head would still add prestige, and direct Guilliman's eyes to another capable master on his end. Something he can use to expand a similar remit on his end. ...Giving the Salamanders a Imperial remit, and not just a partial role. Add a 2-3 named Salamanders, and flush-out the squad with assigned Blood Angel attendants for flavour/"look out sir" roles. This fluff is already seen under Tycho's grave monument's honour guard. Naturally, this squad detachment could replace Dark Imperium members with Ultra Smurfs, Primaris, etc to represent different factions or locations.
@@7hart2 If you're talking about a limited or token presence, as is the case with various monuments and Space Marine honour guards throughout the Imperium, then yes, it can be done. What I'm saying is that Chapter-wide cooperation between the two Chapters is improbable for now. The Blood Angels cannot abandon the Imperium Nihilus, and the Salamanders won't leave Nocturne defenceless, too many hostile forces active nearby. They could still send a sizeable force if Guilliman completely negates his limitations on Chapter size, though.

I agree that they missed a shot at Dante asking about Sanguinius. When Guilliman reinforced Rynn's World he spoke to Kantor about Dorn (albeit very briefly!). Devastation of Baal was a brilliant read. Thank you for the video! Great work.
Guilliman stresses the point of Dante removing the mask more than once. You have to wonder if Dante bearing his brothers' likeness offends him in some way. Especially considering the line "There is no need for you to bear the Angels' likeness when a real primarch walks among you."
Mega-Buster Shepard very real since Guilliman has really only been back into the fold since the heresy for such a short time. It literally must be like yesterday for Guilliman.

This is one of my favorite channels. You really bring voice to these characters, and make the world of 40k feel... real. human. personable. I guess I have to start reading the books, now don't I?
I had to come back to this video after watching The Templin Institute's video on Lord Commander Dante. Such a great moment between two heroes of the Imperium.
The writing here... so fuckin crisp and beautifully done. You know these men are basically gods and at the same time as human as any of us. The burdens, the grandure, the sense of duty and forces of will they show even at rest. Incredibly done.
Removing the mask seems good to me. He is not Sanguinius, great as hawkboy was. In his own way, Dante is greater than any Primarch. He fought longer in realspace than any of them (as far as we know). He deserves to be recognized for himself, and his individuality. The mask distanced him from that for too long.
I can see your point, but by now the mask has become part of Dante, part of what he is. He’s recognised for his own deeds by friends and foes alike, and the mask is inseparable from his legend, just like the golden armour and the Axe Mortalis. So I doubt he’ll ever remove it for good, he’d just stop wearing it while talking to Guilliman.
I can't wait till see his interactions with the other first founding chapter masters...... wonder how the great wolf will take to him and his new Primaris Marines??

the last conversaton was SO GOD DAMN TRUE, i was thinking of that for so a long time, like the space marines have been fighting with the same horros the dark gods offer them, why would you choose to fight with people who has suffered the most, which actually learned to fight through the same horrors they were ment to destroy....what kind of messege that gives to the space marines? like they are the ones meant to destroy what they have become?, save the people who teaches them through the horrors they face? which is the difference between that and the despicable gods? instead, if they were to learn about the beauty, compassion, life, etc. They would never (as some chapters) even think to betray what they protect, as a man who fights for what he believes and love will fight till his last breath, till his last drop of blood, till the last gasp of his soul leaves the body, and even in death they would prevail.
it's simply terrifying how old the dante model is, it makes me feel so OOOOLD! I love this, I dont think anyone, even the Dark Angel's, Sanguinius was almost war master anyway
Devastation of Baal is genuinely a great read. As a long-time Blood Angels player on the tabletop, Dante being named Lord Commander was a great moment of recognition for a guy who has given over a millenium to every corner of the Imperium. I would also make the subtle distinction between emotion being a "weakness", which implies that being emotional is a flaw when it isn't, and it being a vulnerability. Something that is not inherently weak, but can be muddied and confused, which leads to uncertainty and insecurity. Emotion is a vulnerability precisely because it is such a point of strength. If you damage the strongest pillar of a structure, the entire structure may collapse.
Irony is actually having seen this and watched it once, but finding it again in my suggested feed and "misreading" it the second time. "wait... Guilliman disappointed Dante?"

Horus fell to Chaos simply because he was open-minded. The Blood Angels and its sucessors chapters are true believers of the Imperial cult, with Dante always setting an example. They'll be fine.
It's not lost on him, he knows the indommitus crusade was waged by a legion in all by name (Unnumbered Sons) and had to broke them off into the existing chapters and new ones for that reason
And when Mathieu, his apostle, goes against his orders and kick-starts a series of events that save him he gets furious with him because his actions caused imperial forces to fight each other, reminding him too much of the heresy
Strange thing is Dante won't disappoint his new position like horus did.

Guilliman does make an amazing point about not resisting hell when one already lives in it.
Guilliman is something of an oddity in 40k. A demi god from the distant past awakening into a universe he barely recognizes.

Oof
Not to Guilliman crown Angel Boy into a high, respected position of power.
Oh how history rhythms
@@andrewlauselfdefence possibly 200-300 years old as horus heresy.
Oh i agree with you that he should have asked guillman about sanguinius. That would be very very interesting.

Interesting but bad story telling. The story’s over by this point. The narrative needs to snap shut, not drag on.

The sincere humility of a being with such power and presence uses manners, a common trait of decency throughout all humanity. The author goes on to emphasise and reiterate this in the following paragraph.

I’d like to read a meeting with Guilliman and the Space Wolves. Especially with Bjorn the Fell-Handed.
So I doubt he’ll ever remove it for good, he’d just stop wearing it while talking to Guilliman.

the last conversaton was SO GOD DAMN TRUE, i was thinking of that for so a long time, like the space marines have been fighting with the same horros the dark gods offer them, why would you choose to fight with people who has suffered the most, which actually learned to fight through the same horrors they were ment to destroy....what kind of messege that gives to the space marines? like they are the ones meant to destroy what they have become?, save the people who teaches them through the horrors they face? which is the difference between that and the despicable gods?
instead, if they were to learn about the beauty, compassion, life, etc. They would never (as some chapters) even think to betray what they protect, as a man who fights for what he believes and love will fight till his last breath, till his last drop of blood, till the last gasp of his soul leaves the body, and even in death they would prevail.

If you damage the strongest pillar of a structure, the entire structure may collapse.

make him taking of his mask so he can be more intimidating and intense ,and all for having a loyalty forged to ''never let him down, i will not let you down, i know you won,t'' making it 3 times a promise.
make no mistakes girlyman needs allies that put up with his shit and most important his upcoming shitstorm.
he needs as many a world as many a system or segmentum on his side as he can.
the only difference between horus and girlyman is that when horus did his charm thing even his brothers believed it..
and only loken saw tru its charade..
but we will see, i hope the stories get more intricate and interesting..
Love to know where Yiu got the background gothic music. It's what makes your videos stand out! Going to post this on every video in the hopes I'll get a reply :p
did you get the music of this video?
@@gadrielvanorion9872 yeah I did thanks. If I have trouble falling asleep I throw this on and sends me. Off within 20mins lol
@@st1mp0 Can you share the name of the Soundtrack please....and suggest some more if possible. Brother Chaplain
I agree with you on the idea of talking about his Dantes father. Something simple as a response. Probably something that you would not expect as an answer. Instead of how great and powerful he was, just the talk of his personality and will.
This just makes me think that guillaman is one of the few people that I think would consider an alliance with the greater good once the greater evils had been expunged, they could synergize and help make the worlds a great place to live
Dante: can I please retire
Roboute: Best I can do is incharge of half the imperium
D : by the emperor
R : I know, it sucks, let it all out
Bruh I could just imagine some random Xeno Civilization looking into the Milky Way Galaxy in WH40k when the Galaxy split in half lmfao
Xeno 1: "Wtf is going over there"
Xeno 2: "No clue, but sounds like a them problem"
10k years later
*Tyrranids Arrive*
Dante: I’m so weary. I just want to die
Guilliman: best I can do is a promotion with even greater responsibility
Thanks for the great video just finished Dante and the devastation of baal both superb 😁
Dante's armor always reminds me of a Stormcast Eternal. Don't get me wrong, I love it. It's just similar.
*I miss you Sanguiny, rest in peace Hawk-Boy*
Another fantastic upload! Cheers
I wish he told Dante "Your father would be proud of you"
*"A society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its laws written by cowards and its wars fought by fools."*
Just started watching your videos and love them ive read most of the books but you have definitely picked up on stuff that i have missed
My favorite part wasn't just when Dante meets the Lord Regent, but when he's on his way to. Barely alive and sees his birth fathers face instead of the priests. But in all honesty the last few chapters has a few tear jerking moments. Im not a huge fan of the blood but damn that was a good read.
Huge flex from Kabandar, love the idea of erecting a monument to yourself after you help your mortal enemies in their absolute hour of darkness.
You should really do the part from "Scars" where the Khan faces off with the Alpha Legion in space, that passage was incredible.
I’m sure that can be arranged 😉
@@wolflordrho I'd love that, it's one of the best highlights of the entire book!
I dont think Dante needs to ask about Sanguinius. He probably knows more about his gene father than Guiliman.
