insanely awesome ride. I tried a 170 km ride in 29 degrees the other day solo and had to bail. tbh fueling properly is so important I have learnt for long hot rides so I’m glad you mentioned fueling.
Thanks for watching :) The heat can sap your energy very quickly so hydration and also electrolytes are super important. All the best with your rides :)
Nice work on being sunsmart Josh - the guys wearing all black on a hot day are just looking for trouble. It looks good but it just absorbs so much heat. Having a white helmet too is a must. I personally use the cancer council sun sleeves as they have decent UV and breathe decently. Looks like. A great ride!
Thanks for watching the video mate. I try and reapply sunscreen during the ride too. I regret to say that I didn’t take sun safety nearly as seriously until recently. Sometimes it can be a little inconvenient but it’s worthwhile
@@_powerrranger I’d highly recommend getting skin checks from your GP or a specialist on a regular basis. I was diagnosed with my first skin cancer in my early 30’s, and have friends also diagnosed in their mid 30’s. Any sun damage/exposure you’re getting now, you’ll pay for later in life…..trust me on that one.
Great video as always mate. Weather looked epic. I was actually out on a ride last week on the Mid North Coast and the cicadas were that LOUD they actually triggered the noisy sound environment warning on my Apple Watch…..it was just deafening.
For these longer rides I find the Emonda more comfortable for now. I have it very dialed in to my fit and preferences. I use the Madone for all my weekday rides.
Great ride! Those MAAP Evade long sleeves are GREAT for warm weather. They let all the cool air in, but protect from UV rays. Jealous of the scenery from here in California.
Yea I’m really enjoying them and am thinking of purchasing a few more so I can rotate through them during my weekday rides too. Thanks for watching the videos and have a good new year!
@@joshkwanwith regards to the long sleeves, one thing I’ve been doing is using separate UV cooling sleeves. It won’t help you on the slow climbs, but you can take them off while sitting around in cafes or friend’s houses or whatever the case might be, without having to take your kit off. I don’t wear a cycling kit, I’m more yoga pants and t-shirt girl (I’m not a racer, I’m just a commuter), so I don’t know if this will work for your needs, but it might be something you can try. I’m really glad that you’re looking after your skin. We’re at a very high risk of skin cancer here (particularly me, I’m a Fitzpatrick skin type I and I ride in the very high temperatures of far Western Sydney / Nepean region / Blue Mountains. There’s not much shade in some of the areas I ride in). Please also incorporate a yearly skin check into your health routine if you don’t already. Early detection is key. It’s not comfortable, being that exposed, but nor is having chunks of skin removed in your 40s onward or worse. Good on you, what a great ride!!
Great video and thanks for your varied content , no doubt you will get out tomorrow for 2025! Have a great Nye with your family and friends and keep your little dogs safe tonight because of the fireworks
great ride, very picturesque; have you noticed, 'all' the big brands, maap, rapha etc, don't' have a UV rating on their clothing. You wonder over time with our Aussie UV what exposure we get, anyway 4 key areas, arms/hands (I use thin arm warmers), (yes cloves), calves and neck, face. Mate has been chasing melanoma on his nose (rode a lot through Asia/AU) so makes you think. keep up the good work.
Thanks for the comment mate. I regret to say that I used to be very neglectful of sun protection since I never got sunburnt. In my mind I made the equivalent that without sun burn I was at no risk. The reality is that you are always at risk, and just a little bit of extra time with sunscreen and extra clothes goes a long way. Have a good new year and take care
I had fully resigned myself to getting 10k in January but you are right, I might make it! It will be close one for sure. Thanks for following my videos and channel
Great video Josh. Just discovered your channel and have watched several of your other videos as well. Are you riding the Trek Emonda is this one? I have the same bike and really love it, Just wondering about the jersey. Looks great. Is it an Australian brand? Thanks very much..
Thanks for following my channel! Appreciate a new viewer and also a fellow Trek lover! Yes I’m riding the Emonda in this video, I’ve had this bike for over a year and I love it. The brand is called MAAP, it’s from Melbourne Australian. It’s quite pricey now but I really love it!
My Emonda fits like a glove Really love that bike. That being said the Madone is heaps of fun to ride and I take it out on weekday shorter/faster rides
Good work lads. Due to rising costs, riding carbon bikes has now become a luxury, its only for the chosen ones now unfortunately. Nice way to see real Sydney btw.
Agreed that cycling is a very expensive hobby with a ‘high’ barrier to entry. But you can pick up some nice bikes secondhand for a good discount. That’s how I started.
Madone comes out on the weekday faster rides. Gotta share the love. Real talk though, I am still adjusting the fit of the Madone and also getting another saddle for it.
@joshkwan I just got a Madone this week (red like yours) and coming from Emonda SL6 Pro. UK winter weather means I've only done a quick test ride ....so nimble and light!
hiya josh, new subscriber from adelaide! if u are over TDU, i would love to ride with you, if schedules match :) i'm not very fast, but i can show you some roads - im sure you do have friends here though!
Thank you for the offer. I’d love to do TDU one day as it looks spectacular and just an awesome cycling event. I’m glad you found my channel, I hope you enjoy my content!

Great vid - I need to try the Ettalong route one day - need to build up to that though with more practice in the RNP.

Thanks for watching mate. Someone told me they once used a sound metre and the cicadas were over 100dB
That is insane!
@ I just checked my Apple Watch history, the sound level of the cicadas hit 98db.
Nature is metal haha
Great ride. And I agree, hate the headwind!
Thanks for watching the video :)
Great video Josh. What an epic ride. 😊
One thing though… I kept on hearing fairy 🧚 instead of ferry ⛴️… 😂
The English language has a lot of words like this 😅
I hope you enjoyed the video
Thanks for watching, take care and happy new year
Here to see what I missed on that day and happy to experience it through your video!! Hope it comes back on the Pastries calendar next year 🥐👌
This is one of my favourite routes of all time. So we definitely have to do it again.
Thanks for watching and enjoying the video
keen to hear when and why you are selecting the emonda vs the new madone?
For these longer rides I find the Emonda more comfortable for now. I have it very dialed in to my fit and preferences.
I use the Madone for all my weekday rides.
hey btw just note those maap mesh sleeves are only spf15 so probably also chuck some sunscreen under them for a long ride
Oh wow I did not know that. Thanks for pointing that out, I will do some more research :)
Thanks for sharing your ride Josh. Lovely video.
Thanks for watching :)
Awesome vid. Which wheels did you use for this ride?
I used the Nepest Maui 50 wheels
well done josh and the entire crew, what an awesome ride, have a great and safe new year, looking forward to seeing what 2025 brings.
Thanks for watching the video!
Have a good new year too and take care :)

Let’s gooooo!
Would love to see a video on how you put these videos together.
Hahahaha I’m glad you are curious to how I make my videos. I’m sure I will upset some videographers with how I do things 🤣
Wooot! Waiting for this and it’s here ❤
Thanks mate! Enjoy :)
Amazing breakfast on a winter morning here~ Can't wait for your new year's ride :-)
Hahaha I’m glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for watching!
Great content and great presentation, oh and the ride looked good as well, far exceeds my capability as an old f@rt cyclist
Thanks for watching my video
It’s a beautiful ride, but with the elevation and distance it definitely is a challenge. Have a good new year :)
Perfect ride it was, glad that you caught the fairy/ferry. Summer bay is one of my favourites too. Machi Machi sponsorship when 😂
Imagine a Machi Machi sponsorship 🥰 that would be incredible hahahaha
Looking forward to more rides with you
The animation at 3:41 would have been tedious to make 👌 Come to Adelaide for a tour down under!
Hahaha I have picked up a few new skills which makes animations like this a lot easier to make!
I would love to come to TDU one day!
You might actually hit 10k subs by year end! There’s been quite an uptick.
I had fully resigned myself to getting 10k in January but you are right, I might make it! It will be close one for sure.

What Standert is Elton riding? I want one! 😂

Better like and subscribe

Yeyeahhh brewing my tea
*sips tea*
Do you have to have a road bike to join pastry cc? Any bikes you would exclude?
We do not allow TT bikes, e-bikes, or hybrid flat bar bikes.
You must be on a gravel/road bike.

Confirmed- madone washed, emonda 4eva
Hahahahahahaha
Oh man, people are gonna riot if I don’t make a comparison video
Why not use the new bike?
Still tweaking the fit and getting another saddle for it
Let him cook
I said. Let. Him. Cook.
wow, I'm surprised that all you riders ate so much crap. Beautiful scenery though.
If you ride 150km you can eat whatever you like 🤪
