Sneaking myself onto the podium at Heffron Park Crit

- Heffron Park is Sydneys most (in)famous crit course. It has horrendous pavement quality, usually a huge turn out as well as windy conditions. The course is quite technical with lots of wide sweeping corners as well as a variety of terrain. This is my first time racing at Heffron, as well as doing Heffron in reverse! Going up against a big C Grade field I knew I had to play my cards right. In this video I go into detail about different things that happened during the race, things I got right and wrong and how I managed to sneak myself onto the podium!
In case you were wondering, entry is $20 and for my podium finish I won $60!
If you're enjoying my Sydney crit racing content please subscribe. After something more casual? I also make route guides as well as videos on more casual Sydney cycling so check that out on my channel too.

Love the subtle animation to bring the "wind direction arrow" in!
Thank you for appreciating the key framing 🫡
This crit content is fabulous, I feel like for mid-level riders who are contemplating racing but want to watch someone at it for a bit before taking the dive (me!), your videos are perfect 🤙
Thank you mate! It always takes a bit to make the plunge into racing
Nice work mate. Looks like a lot of fun. Great vid. May see you out there some time in the next month or two.
Thanks mate! Much appreciated
Woohoo! All those group rides and training paid off!
Yep! My fitness is improving :)
Good vid Josh and well raced too. Enjoy your narration style so keep them coming
Thank you mate, I am very keen for more crits but the bad weather and winter season means theres not many on right now. Should be in full swing by Spring
Monster effort mate! Congratulations and look forward to seeing more podiums.
Thanks! I’ve been watching some of the OCV rides on TH-cam and they look fun too. I’ll have to bring the bike over :)
@joshkwan for sure mate, that'd be awesome
Congratulations on the result!
BTW Love the commentary and the whole video dynamic.
Thanks for watching Raymond :)

Good work mate ..my favourite course
Great video and commentary. Congrats on the podium 👍
Thanks, I did a race last weekend and I will have the video up soon. Stay tuned for it!
@@joshkwan awesome…looking forward to it.
Congratulations on your 2nd place Josh chapeau 💪🏾
I am now cost neutral with my race entry costs. 😇
Great job, congrats! Interesting to hear your strategy. Now your competitors are gonna start studying your tactics! You look buffer in those photos at the end too... must be true, the camera adds 10 pounds (of muscle).
Thanks mate! Appreciate you watching the videos.
Compliments to the photographer, not to me 😂
Great Job Josh!
Congrats Josh hope to c u down there 1 day
*Superb* !
congrats mate❤🎉
Thanks :)
Well done Josh. I think you should race B grade next week.
I’m gonna try and get a win in C grade before promoting myself 🫡
Great race, bruv!

Thank you for watching and the comment :)
very nice work
I got out of road cycling 25 years ago in the club setting . I am a ride leader and have a private group . We didn't have the internet when I rode for a club .
Love the westie on the podium 😂
When I win I’ll have to bring them both up with me.
Podium = new sub. Congrats
Better get more podiums ;)
Woohoo!! 🎉
What tire size are you running? Great vid!
28mm GP5000 with tubes
Thanks for watching :)
“Absolutely pumpin it”
You should try it sometime
great overlay
Thanks! Spent a bit of time trying to get the right look. Appreciate the feedback
😮😮😮🔥🔥🔥
I think I’ll have to retire those pink bibs I was wearing 😂 a bit comical to see in retrospect
Nah mate, they look great ^_^
You did a lot of work that race
@@joshkwan just trying to make it a race and not a group ride with a sprint at the end😅
I hear ya mate. Unfortunately I lack the engine to make any difference on the front.
You defs hammered it out for a couple of laps and strung it out.
Winner winner, chicken dinner 🎉
Waiting for my day on top of the podium
Won't be long mate@@joshkwan
Great effort. That goat track needs to be ripped up and resurfaced.
I agree. Some might say it’s part of the character of this crit though 😂
By the end of the race my fingers were numb from all the rattling.
Heffon would be dangerous at the speeds A Grade would get on a glass smooth hot mix, you'd need to incorporate barriers on a number of corners
@@benglover6019 similar to the cobblestones in Europe, Heffron pavement quality has a certain charm to it ;)
In my day an event like this saw twice as many participants . The sport is dying a slow death due to my abovementioned high cost , low reward for achievement problem plaguing this sport .
Back in my day… *
This club has shrunk due to COVID 19 . Most clubs have and will never recover due to very high investment required to join . Above ten thousand dollars , not including membership , clothing and insurance / travel costs . You need to pass medicals and fitness exams to join clubs these days .
A group of cyclist's and myself have blocked your channel tonight .
For what reason may I ask?
Why would you block (let along a group) a good cycling channel like this one? Josh makes the crits look fun and for a beginner feeling my way forward, this is motivational and instructive.
