I’ve been doing “path explore” rides now for about a year now. after getting Covid, I felt lazy getting back on the bike. I kinda needed motivation. It was great to just do casual rides, just exploring different routes and paths. I like going solo, at my own pace, but I like it unplanned and just see where I end up
Well done on the double ton. That’s no easy feat. A really entertaining and enjoyable vid to watch. It looked a nice way to spend a day and it seemed more about what an interesting journey around Sydney’s parks has to reveal, rather than it being just a 200k crank-out fest. You really have the Midas touch when it comes to putting this stuff together.
23:57 - "I never knew there was a farm here" - my exact thoughts when I ran past that last year too 😂 awesome video as always Josh! This is up there as one of my favs
When I got home I had to go on Wikipedia to read up about it. It’s seriously some prime real estate for apartments or houses. So I was shooketh that there’s just a Asian farm
Great video. I dont live in Sydney these days but have riden the M7 way too many times. You never really appreciate what you have until you no longer have it. Thanks for sharing this epic ride.
That path from Rhodes along the river made me so nostalgic. Love that area, so underrated for cycling. Love the route, epic exploring like this is the best.
Wonderful video, Josh. You’re really lucky to live in such a beautiful and vibrant city, and have a great group of friends to cycle with! Chapeau 🎩 for the big day out.
I was at La Perouse (at the beach) in the afternoon, I feel like I saw you guys do the loop down past Bare Island because I remember your bright shirt. Crazy!
Thanks for bringing us on your PP-cherry-popping-journey! What an epic ride! 200km is quite the day out (we'll ignore Sharon for now)! It was interesting to see the different cycling infrastructure all along the way. Great photos too! And that shot at 26:42. I remember riding after a heavy meal. Felt like throwing up. Good job keeping it all in! p.s. yes I'm happy now, and love that 100% real closeup footage. You've gotta work on your fun facts game now though!
200km on bike paths and back roads is also a lot different to the normal smash rides that we do on the roads. Very different experience and mentality. Luckily I digest food fast :D
Great video Josh! Riding around your home city on the same routes can get pedestrian after a bit yet you managed to find an awesome adventure within that. Those rides are where it's at! Well done on your first 200!!!!!!
I have to say after road riding in a peloton for years, this was a very new experience for me. And I enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks for watching :)
Great video! That is a great accomplishment completing 200KM. Also thank you for including me in the video (I appear briefly at 8:05 🙂) As you enter Parramatta Park.
Awesome vid Josh! Defs on my to do list. Funniest part was the start of the gravel section as it was normally the turn around point of my local park run in Chippo 😂
loved this episode, I find your videos are like a chill, meditation moment in my week when I just watch the scenery you cycle passed and the cool group friendly vibes and your voice is chill to......Australia seems great with its bike paths and weather......Ireland is cold, wet, windy and if you find bike paths in this country it's most likely in Dublin where the traffic lights are every 200m. Can't believe you're only at 7k subs still....couldn't think of anything to improve your content....maybe some advertisement is all.
Always impressed, Monday Public Holiday - video drops within the week. Well done. Might be a bit more out of your way, but you should come visit Penrith sometime. Plenty of variety. Racing is startting back up on Monday evenings around the Regatta Centre, decent rides along the Northern Rd on the weekend, and then of course climbs up the Blue Mountains.
Thankyou thankyou. I skipped a lot of sleep to get the video out haha. Yes I’ve been told to check out the Penrith riding! I need to get out there some time
I'm surprised by how much of this I recognized. I'm a bike lane explorer. Apart from the southern quarter of the trail, I've been to most of these places. The full James Cook path is also a favorite of mine. It cuts through from Strathfield all the way to Tempe. It's also a short ride from Olympic Park, so it ends up bisecting the Sydney loop
I think the route utilises some of the more popular bike paths, so it’s good to see you recognise portions of it. The James Cook one I need to do fully.
Great video. I did the 150 version a few months ago. It's on my list to do the full 200. It a great way to see Sydney and go to areas that you normally wouldn't go.
Good luck with the 200 when you get round to doing it. I’m really glad I got to do this, some of the bike paths were very beautiful. Even if I were riding in the area, I would usually be on the road and never see it.
Great video Josh, and looked like a ton of fun! I did the 150km version over 2 days a while back, and planning to do it in a day with a mate of mine before Xmas (it'll be my longest ride if I make it). Then I'll think about the 200km+ version depending on how that goes... I'll be doing it clockwise to avoid the climb up from Alford's Point Bridge though! ;) As for the bike path 'ending' from Brighton.. not so. You can ride the path from Taren Pt Bridge to Kyeemagh without interruption. I couldn't quite work out where you thought it ended, but it's easy to follow all the way to Brighton Le Sands, where you actually have the choice of continuing on the path at street level, or a short length starting on the boardwalk along the beachside. After a few hundred metres they join again and it takes you to Kyeemagh under the Cooks River Bridge. No need to be on the road at all.
I looked at the 150km version too which looked nice. I also need to give it a go in the clockwise direction. The Brighton bit, due to the foot traffic we ended up just riding on the road. So we missed that whole section of bike path, which is a shame. I know it’s very scenic and nice. But it was just too busy.
I am the opposite haha. Familiar with the north and city, but not the southwest. That’s what’s great about this route, discovering places you usually would not.
Awesome! As a Kiwi who used to spend time in Sydney I’m amazed at that route. These days I go to Melbourne regularly and love their cycling infrastructure. Here in Auckland we have a few nice paths but they’re pretty disjointed still.
Cracking video Josh. Stoked to see you in Revesby, my suburb. I know a bit of those bike paths, but great to see all strung together. Sydney does get a bad rap, but I think out bike paths are pretty good. Though I have no basis of comparison. Will add this ride to my to do list. Keep up the great work.
I rode from quakers hill to Wolli creek on the same route and added kurnell into it, literally the day before you done the full loop It was Awsome!! 👌🏼
I did the southwest section in 2012 as part of my personal best 110km in one day, “Vineyard to Wynyard” haha. I did some stupid stuff to follow the M5 but have since discovered the Menai cycle network - I quite enjoy it with an e-bike in the winter (probably wise?) and love doing the loop with 5 bridges around Woronora & Alfords Bridges, the railway and Lugarno. Cronulla to airport to the city is a piece of cake now, and you join the Manly Ferry or take the (correct) roads through Cameray to get to Spit Bridge, and then ride Manly to Dee Why to Narrabeen Lake and Mona Vale all on cycleway. Or to Church Point. Cooks River Cycleway is probably the OLDEST in Sydney, back when they called it a walk in the 1980s, going from Centennial Drive to Princes Hwy. It now joins onto the crazy network at Olympic Park - that’s the real Cooks River Cycleway!
That was amazing Josh, 200k is in never never land for this old bloke. I really don't think there could be a circumnavigate Brisbane route. The Gateway Bridge has a pedestrian/cycleway over it which I have used to get from North to South but you now have me thinking
Great video, congratulations, puts my 50km on Sunday to shame. I've done maybe a bit over half the route, Meadowbank to Parramatta and M7 to Glenfield, Alfords Point and Woronora, Woolooware to Wolli Creek and Tempe to La Perouse. Actual Cooks River cycleway from Tempe to Sydney Olympic Park is also worth exploring and probably 80% plus off road although not part of the trail.
By far my favourite stretch of the loop is the cycleway under Gore Hill Freeway - you wouldn’t know the cars were there! It’s a forest. Such a shame you went a weird way to Chatswood, not sure why. The path from Harbour Bridge to Gore Hill to Epping Road basically goes in a straight line. If you can dodge a few suburban streets at Epping to Carlingford, you can rejoin the network at the new tram line.
We took the gore hill freeway cycle path but it was pitch dark so I didn’t really include much of the footage. I agree though, it’s very very nice down there.
Another banger video and well done on the epic ride. I live in Canberra, but did the M7 for the first time on Monday (because some guy you YT recommended it 😂). I think you were there after I’d finished.
Great vlog. When I go out 'exploring' I take my gravel bike, its a bit slower but considerably more comfortable than the roadie. I dont take any notice of the stats on the garmin and just ride, it's nice to just switch off. My best lately is 180k and that was more than enough 😅 Keep up the fantastic work 👏 🍻
Well done great video I completed the 160km on Anzac Day earlier this year starting from Hurstville and doing it clockwise. Completed all 4 markers however missed the M7 loop Like you I would have liked much better signage along the way 👍 Great cycling stay upright
I will place on the bucket list if I get to vacation there. Nice ride, nice photos, good group of friends to ride with. What brand of cycle shorts did you wear? I'm not sure if I could move after a long ride like that. 😅
It’s a great ride but also a very long one. If you do this route I recommend planning ahead of time. The short so use are from a brand called MAAP. It’s based in Melbourne Australia.
Great vid, well done to all for completing an epic ride. I’m curious NK is obviously a solid rider but she looks way too stretched out on her bike, like she needs the next frame size down or a shorter stem? 🤔
Appreciate the comment. Tbh I think the fit is fine, she rides very aero in an aggressive position. In fact she does Olympic park with me regularly in the fast group. Bike size is definitely correct as we have the similar inseam and both ride size small (50). Stem length I guess can be personal preference :) I use 110mm
All good, don’t think I answered that question anywhere. It’s a Fujifilm x100f. I bought it years ago. In recent times it’s become very popular the the price has skyrocketed to buy one 😓
Nice video! Did this a few months back but in the opposite direction, it’s a good loop but even getting average speed to 23 was hard, bike paths are just slow…
Very nice, I’d like to try it in the opposite direction to see what that’s like. Yea, bike path is impossible to go fast. But that’s okay. The point of the ride is not to smash it.
Great video, thanks for documenting that your journey. Anything you'd do differently if doing it again or advising someone interested in the loop....Also, I notice you had over 4 hours of stopping time, realistically how much of this could you shave off - I do not fancy a 14hr day out!
I might try it clockwise next time. Also try and familiarise myself with the areas down south a bit more since I don’t ride there very often. I reckon could half the stopping time, and restrict to about 2 hours. But we were taking it leisurely and also stopping to get water regularly.
Thanks for sharing this route. Ive just come back from Europe and segregated bike paths are just everywhere. We need more in Sydney especially through Sydney to link up with the bike paths in the suburbs and make it safer to ride for pleasure or a commute. Also where do you get your music sound tracks from?
Yes, Sydney has a long way to go. But at least we are moving in the right direction. I have another video coming out soon with some commuting on bike paths in the inner west of Sydney. Music is from Epidemic Sound. I use them for music licensing. Finding the right song to fit the mood is very important 😇
Do you know group rides near CBD please mate (that rides in the afternoon or evening) ? I'm about to come in Sydney soon for my WHV and gonna bring my bike with me from France !
Check out Rapha. Their Wednesday ride is open, but their other rides you will need their membership. Also the pastries.cc Thursday ride is open. Weekend rides are open too, but the routes/speed is intermediate and up level.
Hi there! I don’t usually ride with my camera so cannot say I have a tried and true method. Sometimes all it is, is just having other items in the back pocket so that the camera rests a little bit ontop of that. For the action camera, that is waterproof so I don’t mind it getting wet.
Great to see so many familiar places I have cycled: LCNP, Parramatta River, M7, CP, SHB in much smaller bites. Also, so many new places to visit. 🚴♂️🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️Sydney is an amazing place!
Best part of cycling, being a tourist in your own city and discovering new places that you would never otherwise go to
Being a tourist in your own city is really fun. Feels like discovering something new 😊
This is probably the best vlog on sydney cycling and what sydney can offer… Thanks for the great vid bro❤
Wow that an honour. I’m glad that people enjoy my video so much

Exploring and seeing where you end up is a different mentality to the usual road cycling. I enjoyed the variety.
Great video, looked like an awesome day and a great achievement.... something for my bucket list now
As a committed devotee of cycle paths, this was awesome! Thank you.
Thanks very much!!
What an epic ride around Sydney to do with your mates!
Well done on the double ton. That’s no easy feat. A really entertaining and enjoyable vid to watch. You are too kind. It takes a lot of work to make these videos sometimes, so it’s nice to see people really appreciate it :)
One of your best vlogs, how beautiful and diverse is our city! I am blessed to live near the start of M7!
Thank you!!!
Our city is awesome. And there’s still plenty more places to explore :)

Great video. I dont live in Sydney these days but have riden the M7 way too many times. You never really appreciate what you have until you no longer have it.
Thanks for sharing this epic ride.
As someone who lives very far from the M7 cycle path, whenever I get to use it, it’s a bit of a treat 🙃
One of your best videos. Thank you and congrats!
Thanks very much for watching 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration Josh! This had been on my cycling bucket list since I found out about it last year.
It’s a good day out :)
Josh, you've become quite the storyteller. Chapeau young man! Awesome video, Great ride😊
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video ☺️
Epic ride bro! 200km on shared paths is bonkers but I love it!
Thanks mate! Very different to our usual road riding. But a fantastic way to explore and experience riding in a different way.
That path from Rhodes along the river made me so nostalgic.
Love that area, so underrated for cycling.
Love the route, epic exploring like this is the best.
Thanks for watching :)
added to my riding bucket list.. great vid Josh and well done to the crew who you shared this unforgettable memory ride in 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Yes! It’s an awesome (but very long) day. Highly recommend doing it with company :)
Love the kit and Parra Park/Rhodes shoutout!
Thank you :)
Wonderful video, Josh. You’re really lucky to live in such a beautiful and vibrant city, and have a great group of friends to cycle with! Chapeau 🎩 for the big day out.

Awesome! As a Kiwi who used to spend time in Sydney I’m amazed at that route. These days I go to Melbourne regularly and love their cycling infrastructure. Here in Auckland we have a few nice paths but they’re pretty disjointed still.
Glad you could enjoy my video.
The bike paths were a little disjointed here, but I am a bit biased and filmed mostly the stuff that looked nice.

Do it in 2 days. The metro will get you to Bella Vista in a flash
Really enjoyed this video! One question, how do you protect your camera from soaking in your back sweat?
Hi there! I don’t usually ride with my camera so cannot say I have a tried and true method. Sometimes all it is, is just having other items in the back pocket so that the camera rests a little bit ontop of that.
For the action camera, that is waterproof so I don’t mind it getting wet.
Great video :)
Thanks
❤❤❤❤❤
Very impressive...one question re the route from Sutherland to Cronulla...which way did you go?
There was some back streets and parks that we took. Sorry I don’t know the names of any of them.
It’ll be on my Strava
Welcome to parramatta.
When did Sydney end in Roseville, heard of Glaston gorge?
Best thing the adventure is FREE
Hahaha yep. I did eat alot of food though 🤪
16:06 this or shinamenaidokaido?
also where all your poop stops after the food, key details missing
What is harder to pronounce
Shinamenaidokaaido or woronoroanra bridge
The trick is I don’t poop. Just absorb back into the body.
yoo thats where i live at 5:55 i take that path from meadowbank to rydalmere for work!! Also why does the voice over sound so wet and juicy LOL
Cool to see places you know from other peoples perspective hey!
I’ll put that down to the Rode Mic 🫢
Some history for Casula power station, I used to use it as free hospital parking back in 2015!
Oh no! 🤔 wish I could say that’s a fun fact; but hospital doesn’t usually have a positive connotation
@@joshkwan looks like a good route!! Parra and The m7 section is home, but anything else looks new and amazing
Good view, i wanna join the ride 😁
It was a beautiful day :D
Why doesn't the m7 cycle path continue to follow the M2 and into the CBD ? Is there a reason 🤔
Good question. Add it to the long list of things that make sense but didn’t get implemented haha 🥲
Nice video
Thank you ☺️
Strava link and playlist pls :-) great vid
Here’s the Strava: strava.app.link/MD7et72HFNb
Sorry I haven’t got a playlist of the music I used. It’ll be on my computer at home somewhere.
Need this like lofi/Casey Neistat playlist
I wish I could daily upload like Casey
Great to see so many familiar places I have cycled: LCNP, Parramatta River, M7, CP, SHB in much smaller bites. Also, so many new places to visit. 🚴♂️🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️Sydney is an amazing place!
We have some amazing bike routes. It was awesome to join them all together to make one mega loop.
What bag or strap is on your back?
It’s a Peak Design strap. Very good for cameras
Need a gravel bike for paths
We could make paths twice the width .
Yea a gravel bike would be much more comfortable. Wider tires and lower pressure. Soak up all the little bumps
Man where’s the big hills
Almost 2000m elevation, but not really any major climbs. Just lots of rollers :)
big guy needs to lower his seat an inch id say, he wobbles a lot when he pedals
Haha I’ll let him know. He’s done a bike fit I think. Might just be the immense watts 😅
would be great if the ride was on KOMOOT
Sorry I’ve never used Komoot before. I’m sure there’s a way to save the GPX though
@@joshkwan TY im enjoying all your videos very informative
Hopefully not too much of the concrete slab track, that stuff puts the shakes through your wrists and brain
There was a lot of it hahaha. My hands were pretty sore by the end of the ride
@@joshkwan if there's a choice between that and a road, I'm going on the road! (perhaps I should just run larger tires and lower pressures...)
Yea I usually ride road. But wanted to try something new!
I can barely make it to a hundred... deym... I need more training.
You’ll get there!! I’ve been riding consistently for a few years to get to this point
The circuit was my idea. My best is 3 days. Quite a few groups are doing it in multiple days. Sydney Spokes do it in 5 legs over five months.
@@joshkwan yeah. im training everyday and ramping it up.
*and boxing day
I included that in the Christmas break exclusions 😋
