Kevin san, Dayle san, thank you so much for your support for the video. :) I really appreciate it. Yes, it’s not as common as routes to Kyoto, but there might be lots of hidden gems that not many people visit. I’d like to show more of other destinations little by little.
Kengo-San, Arigatou gozaimasu!!! This is a very important topic and video! Very happy you shared this info. One of these days I want to travel back to Aomori and continue on to Hakodate on Shinkansen!!! 😊
Thank you Davy san! That sounds exciting to go to Hakodate by Shinkansen! Can't wait they extends to Niseko. It seems many travlers only use Tokaido Shinkansen even with JR Pass, but I hope more travelers visit more different parts of Japan. :)
I am happy I found your channel, I just move here to live and now watching through all your videos I can have a idea where to go and what to do on my weekends or long day off. Keep it up with your videos!
Thank you for watching and congratulations you settled in Tokyo The JR East pass in the video can be purchased by residents too as long as you are not Japanese passport holders, so you can get benefit from it. :) I hope you enjoy the lots of different places in Japan. :)
Thank you for this recent information uploaded. I am going to Ninohe in October from Tokyo and couldn’t figure out the best train to buy a ticket for. This JR east pass seems to be the best option for my 3 days trip. Thank you again!
Sounds great to visit Ninohe with JR East pass. You might want to make sure to purchase the pass in September and not October, as the price of the JR east pass is going up as of Oct.1. Have a great trip. :)
@@tokyokenchan ohhhh okay. Thank you for the info. I thought it was only the JR all Japan pass that was increasing. I’ll definitely buy before the end of this month.
Dear Kengo- thank You for videos - I thins I’ve wached all of them :). They are so helpful. I will go to my Japan trip on Sunday. Could You please give me advice about the weather (sorry, my question is not related to particular video). I see on my iphone all week rain in Tokyo :( I cant’t understand- is it jus summer rain time to time or heavy rain storms? Thank You a lot for an answer!! :)
Hello Eva san, thank you for watching that many videos! My weather app in Japan says Sunday to Tuesday sunny, only Wed and Thu is rain in the late afternoon. It might be typical summer evening shower. The weather forecast changes time to time in summer, but at this point they don't expect any days that rains all day in Tokyo. Please just be careful for the summer heat. I wish you the best trip in Tokyo.:) Thank you again.
I’m like you. I’d get the souvenir Shinkansen bento box even though it’s children sized, just to collect the box. But I’d also buy a lot of snacks too, because my appetite is too big 😂. A bucket list item of mine is to see a really good Kabuki performance. I loved watching Kabuki Cool on You Tube during the pandemic. Maybe you will have some tips for doing something like that in the future 😊
Yes, I went to see it at Kabukiza theater recently and just found out I chose wrong one that didn’t look like Kabuki. I’ll find out tips! Yes, looks like we like similar things. ^^ somehow I get nervous not to have foods on a long train but I end up eating in the first 1 hour. I kept this bento box and the container one is a good box. 😄 I hope there is LA Metro one.
Thank you very much for this, Kenchan san. So helpful! If I have JR Pass for ordinary or green class, can I pay extra to upgrade to Gran Class? Thank you 😊
Thank you for watching Okka san. I’m glad you found it helpful. Yes, you can upgrade to Gran class. It needs special tickets so the additional price would be the same for the regular JR pass and Green Car JR pass. :)
@@tokyokenchan not really I have replied with the details on the earlier post. I even wrote a query on jr west website but received a standard response that query is being forwarded to some department.
@@tokyokenchan I finally managed to reserve seats today by following the steps you mentioned plus Jr west too outlined stepwise how to do it. I was making a mistake with the reservation number. But anyways the process should be lot smoother.
@@chiragganguly Thank you for letting me know! It's definitely too difficult to understand, but I'm glad it worked out for you at last. Have a great trip. :)
Thanks! Do I have to reserve for large luggage? But I cannot find this option when I tried to buy online ticket in JR East website (Hayabusa to Aomori). Or I just reserve the back seats as you recommended in other video (you talked about JR west). But my problem is I don’t know which one is back seat. On this seat plan Row number 1 is on the back, but you don’t know if it face to which direction. Is it always face to the same direction of the train?
Thank you for your support again. I really appreciate it. For JR East Shinkansen, they don't have rule for luggage bigger than 160cm total dimentions, so you can use the luggage lack in the end of the train. Yes, it might be a good idea to reserve the back seat to be near your luggage. For the seat, always Tokyo side is No.1, so when you go to Aomori, No.1 is back seat. 👍 Thank you again. :)
haha, yes. I realized it was more for the box. It might not be the best Ekiben foods but good. :) The Sukiyaki in cargo container was small but more for adult. ☺
Very informative video Ken thanks. I’m getting a JR East Pass for my trip to Yamagata. Which train/line should I take from Tokyo station, without changing train? Also I don’t seem to be able find the train timetable online. Can you advise? Thanks
Hello, that's great you are visiting Yamagata soon. You can take "Tsubasa" of Yamagata Shinkansen from Tokyo Station that is going to Yamagata directly. This is the current timetable for Yamagata Shinkansen (Red button is for weekend/holiday ) . Haven't found any English timetable yet, but you can find in an app. called JAPAN Travel by Navi Time. www.jreast-timetable.jp/2308/timetable/tt1039/1039040.html#time_8
Thank you for making this video Kengo-san, so happy to come across this video, I have a question regarding the travel route from Sapporo to Aomori, can the JR east rail pass be used for the ride from Sapporo to Aomori? I'm planning a trip from Hokkaido to Tokyo and noticed that in the JR website that the JR east pass only covers to Aomori.
Thank you for watching. To get to Sapporo, you might want to get JR South Hokkaido Rail pass. www.jreast.co.jp/multi/en/pass/easthokkaido.html JR East pass (Tohoku area) doesn't cover Hokkaido.
Do you think it would be possible to do a day trip from Tokyo to Aomori to see some cherry blossoms at Hirosaki Park, and back to Tokyo all in one day if I leave very early?
Wow very helpful video. Thanks. Especially because I’ll be traveling the same train soon. Except I’ll go to Minami-Chitose Station 南千歳駅. On eki-net I wasn’t able to buy a ticket from Tokyo to Minami-Chitose Station 南千歳駅. Only 2 tickets (1) Tokyo to Hakodate and (2) Hakodate to Minami-Chitose Station 南千歳駅 which are quite expensive. Any advice? Thanks a lot.
Thank you for watching. Do you have any plan to get on train after Minami Chitose? I checked it but the price is almost the same with the South Hokkaido pass that I introduced in the video, so I you plan to come back to Tokyo or go further in 6 days, it's better to get the pass. :)
@@tokyokenchan thanks very much for checking for me. But no we will only use the train once. But yes maybe it’s the easiest way to get the pass. Do you recall what the difference is. Thanks again
Thank you for the informative video! For traveling in Tohoku for 10 days, what’s more recommended - to purchase a 14-day full JR Pass? Or two separate 5-day Tohoku Area passes?
Thank you for watching! I think it depends on your other itinerary before and after. JR pass gives you more freedom of the area, in case you change plan in the middle. But price is cheaper with JR east passes. :) Have a great trip to Tohoku.
Hi. Yes, it covers Hakodate and Niseko from Sapporo. The train to Niseko is very limited and bus is a major transportation so you might want to check the timetable before your travel.
If I buy the JR Pass, I can make reservation 1 month before if let say I am going to Aomori? JR Pass can reserve Green Car at no extra cost? I can only made reservation at the JR Office physically in person?
Thinking beyond the Tokaido Shinkansen box! Thank you for reminding independent travelers of other possibilities open to them

Thank you for such detailed explanation. May I ask, so the Hayabusa train you took, went from Tokyo to Aomori without stopping in between?
It stops some stations, Ueno, Omiya and skip to Sendai, and Morioka. It depends on the train but Hayabusa to Hakodate is the fastest one. :)
Do you think it would be possible to do a day trip from Tokyo to Aomori to see some cherry blossoms at Hirosaki Park, and back to Tokyo all in one day if I leave very early?
