  • This unique private recording of The Desperate Battle Of The Birds
by Pipe Major Iain Murdo Morrison in Copenhagen 1981 is made on a Revox stereo tape recorder.
I myself was present and sat 2 feet from his chanter.
All in all, he was a piper from another dimension. Thanks Iain! Rest in peace!
Postscript: Iain Morrison had a divine set of pipes and I have been told the following story. When Iain joined the army he first had another set. Maybe a normal no. 5 set with ivory which was standard and which you got or bought yourself, I don't really know about that. But there was also another piper at the barracks who had also been given a set of pipes and when he played the drones sang and locked almost by themselves. And when this piper later left the army, Iain was given the opportunity to purchase this divine set. I don't know who the maker is and who owns it today.

Was ein einmaliger Musiker, sehr faszinierende Interpretation., Danke für die Veröffentlichung. Solche grossartige Musik hört man leider sehr selten in der Mainstreampipingworld.

Possibly inspired by his old instructor Pipe Major Donald MacLeod MBE

Yes, completely traditional setup - there were no other alternatives.

@@88Ralph1 exactly, at this time Cane Drone Reeds and Sheepskin pipebag nothing else possible. As Pipe Major Ian Maclellan once said: With the help of the many synthethic materials we have nowerdays, there are many good pipes to hear on the boards, but no outstanding ones anymore. This is a outstanding sound we hear here.

Yes. This is how the greate Highland bagpipe should sound as a solo instrument.
