"not a garage queen, I drive it" is the best quote of the video. Brilliant way to start off 2019. Mr. Lotterer, you know where the priorities are for sure.
Daily driving a car this rare and unique? To those ones not involved in Audi's as much, this vehicle is produced in only 164 examples. Prices can fetch around half a million. Every Audi's fanboy wet dream.
Being a German sports car fan but always having leaned more towards Porsche and BMW, I can say this is one of the few Audi's that really excited me. I love all rally racing but like most people I obsessed over Group B so that's where my interest in Audi Quattro's started. This is a super cool example of a legendary car and it looks like it has an owner who really "gets it!" Thanks Petrolicious. Happy New Year to all!
Fantastic. Great to see this Audi vehicle. It is so true what he says about the vehicle. You’re amazed because of the look and you’re amazed because of the strong historic racing heritage that the vehicle carries. The 5 cylinder sound, the Quattro and race heritage of this vehicle has set the tone for what we have come to know today in the RS3 sedan and the Quattro suspension in the other Audi models. To see someone this young and so passionate about a vehicle like this is fantastic . It also means he is quite sophisticated and that he uses it as a daily driver! Wow! AMAZING CAR !!! I always love oldschool cars. :) This Audi such a angry character, incredible 5 cylinder sound and beautifull design. Modern cars are so bored..
Having grown up and driven cars since the early 80s I can say that this era, this 80s and 90s era is the best time to be a car nut. We still had a sense of wonder about not only the cars but the world. Now, everything is sanitized, looks the same, and safety and emissions first. All hail the last great generation of rolling art.
We had a 1984 Audi 5000s and despite it's 4-door sedan size, that car's straight five engine and gearbox made it a dream to drive. The car was years ahead of other road cars.
Always loved these cars, especially the short wheelbase ones - my father in law had an Audi 4000 Quattro sedan, black over black and that car was like a custom Armani suit - beautiful. In line 5 cylinder engine, 5 speed, locking front rear diffs - the closest thing to having the short wheelbase Quattro Sport!
I remember those Audi's in the 1980s when I was a student at Syracuse. I had a 1980 Scirocco S and I was always jealous of the kids that had 4x4 Audi's especially for their handling in the snow, which we got a lot of. Great story and a beautiful car!
I think you are talking about the Audi Quattro, on which the Sport Quattro (the car in the video) is based on. 214 Sport Quattros were built between 1984 and 1985. Of the 214, 20 became competition rally cars, in the World Rally Championship under the Group B rules between 1984 and 1986. 164 were sold to the public through selected Audi dealerships in (then) West Germany, for around 200.000 German Marks each, which would be something like $US 180.000 today. The remaining 30 cars became rolling testbeds, museum pieces, some were cannibalized for spare parts, and two were kept for use by Audi executives (painted in black, the only two to have that colour). The car that Lotterer is driving in the video is worth between $US 530.000 and 590.000, that's how much they sell for. If you want to buy one the 20 competition cars, you'll have to fork up 1.5 million to start with, though they very rarely come up for sale.
