This is the best video series ever. They will never run out of cars to test! I love it. Finally something for car guys. Not hours of talking and music that overshadow the car sound. This is peak top gear!!
So TG rediscovered something called "Stereophony" from about 100 years back and recommend some device potentially more "high fidelity" than the tiny hissing speakers from your average smear-phone. Well done! The featured cars are also very nice, I do remember the racket which was not only audible noise but a seismic sensation - you could quite literally feel the ground trembling.
The glorious sound of my youth 😀 I stood in the forests as a 15 year old watching those blasting past on the 85 RAC Rally, that year and others. It's absolutely the reason there's a 20v V5 engined Golf with a noisy exhaust and intake system sat outside the house as my daily driver 😁😁
How can you talk about Audi and m]not even mention Michele Mouton, the best female motorsport driver we have seen. She won the 82 Acropolis rally and was second in the 82 WRC. She also won Pikes Peak in a Group B Audi. Oh and she was a class winner at Le Mans in the 70s. She did not need a female only series or diversity quotas to perform. She was just good.
You are either unaware or have simply forgotten how the male drivers responded when Audi selected a woman for their WRC team. Ari Vatanen was particularly bothered for some reason, saying, *“The day I will be beaten by a woman, I will stop racing.”* 🙄 In fact, the weekend before Mouton's first win at Rallye Sanremo, Vatanen again boasted about his male superiority to journalists. *"Never can, nor will I lose to a woman."* But then, he lost to two women at the same time - Mouton's co-driver Fabrizia Pons is also a woman. Somehow, in a shocking twist, Vatanen found the strength to continue racing despite this terrible injustice. 🙄 After defeating Mouton by the slimmest of margins to win the 1982 WRC Championship, Walter Röhrl said he would have accepted losing the championship to Hannu Mikkola (Mouton's male teammate), but not Mouton herself. You can take a guess why, but you don't need to - Rörhl was clear. *“This is not because I doubt her capabilities as a driver, but because she is a woman.”* 🙄 At Pikes Peak in '85, when Mouton destroyed the course record, Bobby Unser came out of retirement and returned to the mountain for the first time in 12 years. Why? Because he couldn't stand being beaten by a woman. His nephew Al Unser Jr. later said, *"I don’t think he liked Michèle Mouton having the record. I don’t think he cared that Mouton had it, I think he cared that a woman had it.”* 🙄 When Unser's 1986 record was immediately shattered by Walter Röhrl in 1987, he suddenly didn't seem to care so much. Weird. 🙄 These are, of course, only the remarks and facts that have been actually published. Imagine what the day-to-day experience was like dealing with these kinds of fragile egos, all because you happen to have been born a woman. Ironic, isn't it - how many men complain about female-only series when they also seem to have so much difficulty with the idea of being beaten by one. 🤔
Y'all have struck gold with this series. Looking forward to seeing more videos. Just remember, eventually people will get bored at some point so don't drag it out infinitely. Keep inventing
What a great idea for a new type of content. The thing for which a lot of car enthousiasts watch video’s for. Looking forward to an ongoing series for years :)
Thanks for the goosebumps! This binaural listening experience is amazing and the whole idea to be filming in a tunnel is just super cool. TopGear is finally becoming the most original car show, as it used to be!❤
Goose bumps all over my body when listening to this legendary Audi. This sound will be unforgotten for ever. Even for those new electric guy kids. Thanks for this awesome video and look back into great times of cars.
I drove in an actual S1 as a passenger during the Arosa Classic Car Hillclimb event in Switzerland many years ago. The driver was Harald Demuth. He is one of the Audi factory rally drivers from the quattro glory days. And boy the man can drive, I tell ya. The drive up the hill was intense, violent, brutal and fun 🙂
@@MightySavagE Depends on the encoding, but it's a fancy setup so the decode is decent. It would have been cool if they moved the sound setup behind the driver instead of dead center of the car, but that's nitpicking lol.
Awesome to see my love for cars and my profession (noise) crossover! Just a note, when you're measuring noise levels the weighting of the sound level meter (6:38) should be set to dBA and not dBC. dBA or Decibel "A-weighting" filter, mimics the response of the human ear to different frequencies. dBC or Decibel "C-weighting" filter, means it takes into account low-frequency sounds more than high-frequency ones.
This is a great way to show off these cars. Cannot wait for the Nascar episode, one of the best sounding engines on the planet! Becky really starting to shine here too!
Well, oh...what an opportunity, we need a McLaren F1 in there, a Muscle car with a fat blown V8, A V10 formula 1 car, A benelli Sei or Honda CBX, A cizeta V16, A ferrari 275, a 512 BB, a Matra MS670, A BMW M1, A 964 3.6, ....and a VW Beetle. What else?
So i live within walking distance of this tunnel and it must be amazing to hear and see these cars in this tunnel. I can sort of imagine what its like from my days exploring it before they converted it.
Now we need furious and fearsome Lancia Delta S4 there. This blood-thrilling supercharger sound like from the devil, combined with spooling and blowing turbocharger thunder sounds.. Which both gives insane shivers and goosebumps. Mixing it with transmission noises.. It is probably the most fearsome, consternationess and beatiful engine sound ever existing...
This is the future of Top Gear. No nonsensical music or sound effect. No drama. No acting. Straight to the point about the car it needs to feature. Then come the car pure engine sound from the run. Splendid.
Well, if you just want to see the tunnel run, they've put chapters in the description so you can skip to it. Some of us (most of us, it seems) enjoy hearing the history of the car before seeing it in action.
The turbo upshift sound is the coolest thing ever. It's not quite the same in a tunnel on smooth asphalt as when it's going "all out" in the loose stuff, but this is still awesome. I'm very much looking forward to the rest of this series. A couple of cars I'd love to hear... The Lexux LFA (of course) and the Lamborghini SIAN.
One of my all time favourites cars - bonechilling sound wherever it is heard. Hopefully the Alfa Romeo 155 Ti V6 DTM makes an appearance at some point.
In a channel filled with clueless editors blabbering about how heavy EVs are, stands this lone gem of a series! The only thing more ravishing than Miss Evans is the sweet, sweet sounds of violent combustion 🎶

What else?
Mazda 787B
This is definitely one of the THE coolest things tg has ever done i cant wait for the next one!! 👏🏼
Can't wait for part 2 🗿🔥🔥
So i live within walking distance of this tunnel and it must be amazing to hear and see these cars in this tunnel. I can sort of imagine what its like from my days exploring it before they converted it.
Her as host and cars that go all the way too 11 in that tunnel is an Awesome combo ! 👍🏻
Thank-you top gear for this amazing new series, Becky is a great host and the audi sound's epic, that turbo chirp oooo boy 👌👌.
But he always shifts before getting to 9k revs😢
Really fun content here, I appreciate the new presenter ! Interesting speech and nice diction suitable for the french ears
Please make some more !
Don't know who that is but the real "Stig" has his own channel. Ben Collins Drives
Who cares? he's driving in a straight line anyways, it's about the car and the noise.
This is the future of Top Gear. No nonsensical music or sound effect. No drama. No acting. Straight to the point about the car it needs to feature. Then come the car pure engine sound from the run. Splendid.
Dont forget the original "stig" drove that car in the 80s
One of UK's best car presenters, Top Gear and some really fast cars
Now we're talking!! Well done TG!!
I need Clarkson
Or at least Hammond
Maybe May too but idk
Still?....... Get over it.
I can still hear Clarkson saying "SPEED AND POWERRR" at 7:32
Maybe best not to let James do another speed run in a tunnel.
@@Frack_Black a man can dream ok
@iamtherealzombie When I clicked on this video I was actually expecting a challenge like the one in "A Scandi Flick" tbh
Best sound ever. Intake,exhaust,turbo... You named it,this has it .
This presenter got 90% screen time over the cars 10%, not great.
Well, if you just want to see the tunnel run, they've put chapters in the description so you can skip to it. Some of us (most of us, it seems) enjoy hearing the history of the car before seeing it in action.
Top gear left no bread crumbs. Top gear ate!!!
This series is going to be INCREDIBLE! The Audi Sport quattro S1 sounds INSANE!
This is Charwelton disused railway tunnel near Daventry Northamptonshire. Yes the other end is at Catesby.
This could be an interesting way to record engines for racing games since wind wouldn't affect the sound
This is an amazing idea for a series, I really want to see more of this. There are so many awesome cars out there that need to be recorded down there!
This IS the Top Gear your fans want watch and hear, even better with Queen B 🤌🏼 no silly comedians either 👍🏼
Please bring CLIO S1600. It makes brutal bang while shifting gears! :D
One of my all time favourites cars - bonechilling sound wherever it is heard.
Hopefully the Alfa Romeo 155 Ti V6 DTM makes an appearance at some point.
This was amazing. You can even hear the window rattling sound while onboard POV!
This is the kind of video you'll remember for a long time, goose bumps
This was fantastic! Definitely appreciate the headphones section.
Demonstrating Stereo that we enjoyed way back in the 70’s & 80’s.
Great Presenter, Awesome Car & Epice Tunnel.
This channel continues to be better than the last 3 series from the TV!
Top Gear is back !! Do this for all the greatest sounding cars ever made please !!!
In a channel filled with clueless editors blabbering about how heavy EVs are, stands this lone gem of a series! The only thing more ravishing than Miss Evans is the sweet, sweet sounds of violent combustion 🎶
