I just purchased the Gopro 13 black as a successor of my Hero 7. I'm very impressed about the videos of the Gopro 13 made on my race bike - sound, image stabilization and speech control is much better than on my Hero 7. As I want to control an action cams hands free, speech control is one of the most important features for me. Because speech control of my Insta360 X3 is even not as good than speech control of my Hero 7, it was clear that a Gopro 13 is the successor of my Hero 7. Also because GPS is back - and I like the telemetry data in action videos. My experience with the overhyped X3 is also the reason, why I do not buy cams from DJI, I prefer to continue with a brand with which I have already good experience.

20:10 you have the ribs on the roof, the grass stems and the numbering on the door can be made out more easily on the hero 13. The ribs on the AC units appear deeper and the clouds have more definition. The sky is more blue on the action 5 but the gopro has so much more detail that it can be tweaked and exploited when editing anyway.
The main reason why I will never buy another GoPro is because of their inherent unreliability. They tend to freeze or otherwise ruin your footage for no apparent reason, and this has been a problem with the GoPro lineup since my first GoPro purchase, the Hero 3 Black (I’ve owned several GoPro models since then). When my two GoPros ruined some of the most spectacular FPV footage, more than once, during the trip of my lifetime (all the way across and around Australia), moments that could not be replicated or recaptured, I switched to DJI Action cams and have never looked back! I have *never had a DJI Action freeze on me, or otherwise corrupt my footage, and their batteries stay charged while the cams are sitting on a shelf. You’d think that should go without saying, but GoPro batteries self-discharge if you leave them inside the camera - which highlights just how shoddy the GoPro design is (phantom battery drain is considered normal). Why haven’t GoPro been able to fix these well-known problems in a decade and a half of development???
@@s1ickrick99 I already use Sandisk cards, and it makes no difference! GoPros will do this with any brand of card, at least every brand that I have tried.
Great Review! Bought two 13's . Returned them within a week of using them and purchased 2 Action 5 Pro's. DJI for the WIN! Lowlight is so much better on the Action 5 Pro!
My reasons to stick to GoPro even though DJI seems to do everything right and GoPro seems at a stillstand: ReelSteady which I think is sooo much better than Gyroflow 5.3k which lets me use Reelsteady down to 4K and not have a lot of loss.
The theme including the effort applied to the video was top-notch! Unfortunately, the video on the e-motobike and fpv appeared similar to what Live streamed video can look like on occasion. The moment the video returned to your studio it became crystal clear as it was in roughly the 1st 10 minutes of the video. If I had to guess what the issue might have been, the type of compression used with both cameras? Obviously, your studio-prepared video displays flawlessly. It's only seen in the action video when showing a comparison of both cameras. I probably wouldn't have noticed a difference if I had watched the video on my phone(which I never do). Also, could it be the way TH-cam handles that type of 4K video? Hopefully, this discovery can turn into something with a positive outcome.
Hi, Just watching Paul Feinberg who mentioned your HLG3 settings for video. Would you have any suggestions for settings for underwater video for A7Siii? Thanks in advance, Peter
@OriginaldoBo how did you do with the hurricane? I lived in Fort Lauderdale for a little while and then Naples for 6 years before I had to return to Long Island.
I have owned and tried every single gopro’s but now I have the Action 5 pro. I can say that this camera is just so much easier, much better camera overall! Dynamic range of Action 5 is just awesome. The features! And just the smoothness of touch screen both front and back! It doesn’t freeze too. The Dji Mimo app is great and easy to use too. Suprisingly transfer real quick. I still use gopro here and there for reelsteady but I really hope GoPro step up their game.
I've been waiting for your opinion Ken. Love the Average Joe concept. It was super helpful and added to my assumptions about the A5P. When you were in the alley on the skateboard, it seemed to handle background lighting rather well...then you mentioned shortly after how you weren't using ND filters...and I haven't heard any other reviews even mention them. I know their purpose, but are these current versions soooo good out of the box that we may see less need for ND filters? I mean nobody I've seen review these even suggested ND use to improve the image... Thoughts? Glad the area around you looks good. I hope there wasn't any damage or hurricane isssues affecting you. Was the bulk of this footage pre-hurricane? Later, stay safe.
While there remain some niceties I don't understand why DJI hasn't added (timed capture, nightlapse, starlapse etc.) that GoPro has, ultimately GoPro is a larger, slower, and far worse performing in low light camera. The mounts are ubiquitous but they failed to move to magnetic mounts until this year and still are playing "buy the exact same camera, except buy new mounts, new batteries, and niche lenses you won't ever really use" game and that's frustrating. After a round of layoffs in the spring of 2024 they were down to around 925 employees and sadly 15% more of the workforce was laid off the week before the Hero 13 launch in September... GoPro is failing, something I don't want, but as a consumer I'm also not going to continually buy inferior products because of fond memories of a time gone by...
Oh bummer, I was absolutely sure that you as FPV pilot would feel the need of a better low light capable action cam. I’m a little disappointed that I waited to the middle of the video for finding that out. Checking that it’s not a necessity for you for your FPV flights. Does anybody know of action 5 lowlight FPV reviews please tell me.
Dear GoPro loyalists can you point to the screen and show me where I touched you?

I'm an Action fan. But the detail in the GoPro is clearly better. For example, look at the electrical tower at around 14:00. Thank for the comparison.

Though to saw , those videos both looked similar compression may have something to do with it
if i'm not mistaken, your wind noise reduction was set to standard for the action 5.
Everything set to auto.
I would love to see the difference from the action 5 pro to the avata camera. I’ve been on the edge for awhile about getting an avata.
