    Thank you, I'm currently temping as a receptionist at a car show room, where they also service the cars etc, and I don't drive myself, so this is interesting, and I'd know what our clients need

    i had to quit from working for a muppet in his garage. His expectation on a full service was the usual oil and oil filter, air filter and fuel filter. but also to check the trans and diff level, headlights, tail lights, check for damage underneath the vehicle, front to back, and engine bay. Also check the rear brake shoes, and adjust handbrake if needed. Check tyre pressures, look for any leaks, check play in wheel bearings, and driveshaft. Top up all fluids, check fan belts/drive belts. Then complained every time that i was taking to long, and couldnt charge the customer for the 3 and a half hours it took me to do all that.

      that is exactly what i would expect a full service to be as a customer. but id also want my spark plugs checked on top of that.

      @@mj9608 same when you're paying almost £200 that's the minimum that they should do. Granted that the cost of the parts has risen up... They garage is still banking in another £100-120 in pure profits it's insane most of them won't even change the pollen filter inside and would take another cheeky £20-30 quid for something that should be included in a full service!!!

      Hi
      I understand the pressure, 2 hours for a service is an average time, some vehicles can be 3 or 4 hours

    What's your take on air filters do they need changing every year along with oil and oil filter or can you get away with longer as we don't live in a desert in the uk ?

    I just recently bought a 1 series it’s 19 plate, but is it normal to get your car serviced because I just bought it even though it says it’s recently been done?

    Last year in august, I had 2 wheels put on and an alignment, I had to go back twice to get it right, after a while, I just gave up. I took it in for a full service and it only has done 3500 in a year as I haven’t got the money to run it at the moment. I was told that it needs another alignment despite driving carefully and have never kurbed the wheels. They also told me that it is typical to have wheels aligned up to 5 times per year. Is this correct? Thank you.

    • @cjautoservicewarrington2066
      @cjautoservicewarrington2066  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there
      It’s advised to get your alignment checked every year, 5 times seems excessive.
      If your steering is not pulling and tyres are wearing evenly, just once a year check is more than enough

      Yes. If in doubt read your owners manual.
      Change oil and filter every 5000 miles or 6 months

  • @adyatamsi

    this should be normal, however, if your service actually does go through this checklist it is one of the few, what actually happens in the real world, is you get overcharged for things that are done half ass, it is very very difficult to find an honest mechanic. I am a living example of such an experience. it took me roughly 4 years of poor quality service and issues to find a decent mechanic and i still have to be sharp and do my research so i know what the hell i'm talking about. bottom line is that sadly you have to be 50-60% mechanic to be able to know and properly diagnose your own issues so when you do get to a mechanic you can keep him in check.

      I see so much of this in our trade
      Most of the time its garage owners not providing the correct tools and environment for the tech to work in

      @@cjautoservicewarrington2066 i agree however i'm talking about companies, with tools, dedicated building, front desk reception, elevators, ovens, clean rooms for painting. the tools are all there the skill and accountability is not. the distribution belt cover has 5 bolts why do you need to change the socket each time you take a bolt out? because if it threads in... who cares. why is there a bent water pump pulley? because when you take it out you use a crowbar... on a soft metal. why do i get the car like that? because nobody bothered to check... and the list goes on.

      Also power steering fluid if it's not an electric system, coolant, and brake fluid.

      @cjautoservicewarrington2066  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi
      Gearbox oil can be a tricky one
      Automatic gearboxes have there own service interval that should be followed
      Manual gearbox level check can be carried out on a service if accessible and time will allow

      Hi @@bennyjetsaroundtheworld9047
      Power steering fluid would be checked on a service but not replaced unless the manufacture recommends it
      Coolant should be tested
      Brake fluid should be tested and replaced every 2 years as per manufacture instructions
