Having a degree in electrical engineering and having some experience with car electrical systems and batteries, I can tell you advice #5 is no advice at all! It may be a good idea to set your car to acc. for a few seconds before starting a car as this precharges a few large capacitors in the electrical system before sending those few hundreds of amps to the starter. Turning the high beams on is a total NONO if your battery is aging. This might even put you in a situation where you need a car boosting.
Same. EE degree and driving for 38 years... I just shook my head through this entire video. I'm not even sure the writer of it has their drivers license. SMH
Another tip: If you don't use your car for a few days and it's cold weather, turn your key to the on position but don't start the engine for 10 seconds. This gives the injectors time to build up pressure.
I was waiting for the most important, it never came. Most, but not all passenger compartment heaters operate on hot engine coolant, only rarely are they electrical. So what you have in the dash is another back-up radiator. If you're stuck in stop and go traffic, and your car starts overheating (or anytime it's overheating), even if it's really hot outside, turn off the AC, open all the windows, and turn your heater on to full. I've seen this simple, if not comfortable trick lower engine temp to safe levels in minutes.
Lifelong (interior) Alaskan here, regularly dealing with -40° temperatures (-40° is the same in F and C). I'm calling shenanigans on #5. My experience has been the exact opposite. _Any_ additional strain on the battery is bad. I deliberately turn off all fans, lights, etc. Granted there's still the parking lights that might be on for 2-3 seconds before starting it (so the fuel pump can run), but still.
@@a_spectre_spectator956 Well , sad to tell you , but there is a small amount of power in the system !! It's what maintains the ECM or computer in your vehicle . What you DO want to do is switch the ignition to the run position (electricity on) for a few seconds before switching it all the way to engage the starter. Let the electric fuel pump prime the fuel system before cranking the engine.
The overtaking tip is downright dangerous! For a start, keep back from vehicles you wish to overtake in order to get a better view of what's ahead (in fact, always keep a safe distance behind vehicles in front)! Next, move across to the other side of the road when wishing to overtake, and this manoeuvre should still leave you behind the vehicle you're about to overtake, so you can move back to your original place if you notice a hazard you hadn't spotted before. Once you see the way ahead clear, then accelerate past the vehicles. As always, always indicate before making any move!
And don’t forget to honk your horn to signal your passing the vehicle ahead of you which I had no idea was required until my daughter took her written test
Added late: It always is advised to cancel the overtaking by just hitting on your break. That's the quickest way to get behind the car to overtake, so you can again occupy the space you just left. Of course that requires other drivers also overtaking not touching your rear bumper.
The 'putting the lights on' tip is sure to increase your chances of the car NOT starting, as it removes several amps of power that could be needed to turn the starter on a depleted battery.
You should turn the key to the on position for a few seconds before starting, but the high beam thing is incorrect. Going to the on position, wakes up the alternator and the whole electrical system, so they can work smoothly together. That is actually true.
Another tip i would include is to never keep your wheel fully turned to the left or right for more than 30 seconds while the engine is running. this puts a lot of strain on the power steering system
Misinformation at its best. The only true lesson that can be learned from this video is you definitely CAN NOT believe everything you see or read on the internet 😂
In most newer cars, the a/c compressor runs in defrost mode. To cool the car cabin down quicker, run the a/c in outside mode (no recirculate) with the front windows down for a few minutes. This will force most of the really hot air out of the car. Then close the windows and turn on recirculate mode (max a/c). And if you want to save your automatic transmission, never shift into drive or reverse while the car is moving.
Never ever overtake while driving in curvy roads and up down roads (you must be able to see the road Infront of you before overtaking so that you'll have an idea if there's any car or anyone on the road) this is where most of the accidents take place....
For rule 6, I always leave the AC on no matter what time of year it is. It cools air in the summer but dehumidifies the air in the rain and snow. Keeps fog off your windows. I always leave the air speed maxed out and just adjust the temperature and which vents it's coming out as I go. In summer I open the windows while the system runs to start the cooling process but also have fresh air. In the winter I'll turn the air speed down to a crawl until I get heat this way there's at least enough air flow on the windshield that my breath doesn't fog it. I've owned several cars and never have I had to replace any AC stuff.
and don’t forget if you lock your keys in the car, tap on windows 5 times, walk around to trunk and rub it slowly, then make bend your antenna in half and take your wipers off and deflate all the tires. when you deflate all the tires because the vehicle will lower to the ground your windows will go down and presto you can now open car, genius pure genius, I actually laughed throughout this whole thing, and i’m sure most views are friends sending it to more friends to laugh, word of advice stick to whatever types of videos got you subscribers!!

i love when he said to use your tirejack to raise the car to place branches and stuff under them, in sweden most new car don't come with a tirejack or even a spare tire. mine is 3 years old and got a compressor and some foam to inject in the flat tire.
Almost all newer cars in Europe have the compressor and fluid to seal holes in tires instead of a spare and jack. Same as the advice of going front and back real fast… as far as I know, in Europe we mostly drive shifters instead of automatics, even though people are preferring them more now, most of our countries teach shifters first. How TF do you want to go back and forth fast if you have to press the clutch, wait for everything to stop moving in your transmission and reverse so you don’t damage your full transmission? 😂
When going downhill long distances, shift to a lower gear and avoid burning your brakes. This will also help you stay in control much easier. If your vehicle is a 4x4, and there is a lot of downhill driving to do, put it in four wheel drive as well. This way both your axles with benefit from the engine braking. Your car will rev up a bit and make a mild fluttering sound. This is normal.

@@YelpBullhorn , that statement is correct for the standard of spelling for British English and others outside of North America. However for us ( assuming they're from the U.S. as well) curb means both; and as far as to hold back that's the second definition.
You're making progress. From every "tip" now you really got one (the wipers on dry windshield, just that part, the part of curving happens because time). But others are false and some make you unsafe on the road.
This tip is for cars with an automatic transmission, when you drive down the hill it's better to slide the gear stick from D to 2 to prevent overheating and damaging your brakes
Tip: Always check washer fluid level in rainy season. If big vehicles splash muddy water, it will be difficult to clean windshield in night on highway speeds without washer fluid.
If you make a video like this, please understand how cars actually work. If you use the defrost in winter, the AC compressor will run. AC ≠ cold air. And if you have the blower fan on, congratulations, that's all there is to the heater system. So long as your engine coolant level is good, you have nothing to worry about. And if you think you have to turn on lights to get "voltage flowing". I don't even know what to say. You can turn on any lights you want, run the radio, paint a picture. There's always voltage to the starter main wire, and only voltage to the solenoid when the key is turned to 'start'
This whole "Lights on first" thing came about because of a side effect of battery chemistry in cold weather. That being that an immediate high draw on a cold battery is not as effective as an initial low draw followed by a high draw. The problem (as is so often the case with tips like this) is that people don't understand why the advice exists and what it is for, so they start making stuff up to shoe horn it into a scenario to make themselves sound clever. Then along come TH-camrs to pick and choose some "Internet Wisdom" and create a video like this. Between them completely ignoring everything that is known about the flow of current, battery chemistry, and how the electrical systems of a car work. But they sound smart in the video, so that's all that matters. Same goes for a lot of the other "Tips" in this video.
The reason for the "lights on" is wrong and should be amended to hold key in "on" position for a few seconds. i was taught in autos in college that this is because after the car is turned off the pressure in fuel system is released. So starting this way you are priming the fuel system
4:52 thats, not how electricity works. It is not a fluid like gasoline, and you don't need to cycle it through anything. If anything, turning the high beams on for a second will make the car LESS likely to start, because it will drain the battery.
@@RaymondHng well the trick itself is good but he explained it wrong. it does only help to start the car. it basically gets the ions in the battery moving, so you have little higher voltage when cranking.
@@bobbydilley you have a point, but the thing is that starter motor needs very much energy the moment you start cranking the engine. so it needs a high currency the moment the starter starts to turn. well if you have a empty battery for some reason. gonna get in the car. youre gonna start the engine. and starter motor does vou vou. it doesnt get enough speed so that it would take less energy. but if you would do that trick. you would get extra 0,5volts and that would be enough to make the first turn, and starter wouldnt need that much energy anymore, sd long as its going. if you would do the trick with starter, then starter itself takes so much energy that currency goes to 9volts the moment you crank the engine.
@@matufujiwara7493 A motor works by energising coils which apply a magnetic force, the power isn't related to the speed in which it's turned, its related to the force it applies. A motor that physically cannot turn the thing it's connected to will be taking the maximum amount of power it can.

Thanks

Another tip: If you don't use your car for a few days and it's cold weather, turn your key to the on position but don't start the engine for 10 seconds. This gives the injectors time to build up pressure.

Yes it's logical. Used it always on a earlier wreck.
*Some say if you don't turn on your A/C,*
You'll be hot.

And the AC dosent accumulate "toxic substances"🤣 its a closed system for crying out loud🤣

Some experts says if you switch the head light on without starting the engine, battery might go down.
Been a mechanic for many years and I can tell u that ur absolutely 100% correct my little buddy.
It's pretty much the last thing you want to do before you start your car.
What you DO want to do is switch the ignition to the run position (electricity on) for a few seconds before switching it all the way to engage the starter. Let the electric fuel pump prime the fuel system before cranking the engine.
If you want current to flow just turn the keys to ACC or Push the start button without steeping in the brakes.
I learned that the hard way
The overtaking tip is downright dangerous!
And if you are the guy that is been overtaken, don't reduce when the guy is on your side
And don’t forget to honk your horn to signal your passing the vehicle ahead of you which I had no idea was required until my daughter took her written test
Added late:
It always is advised to cancel the overtaking by just hitting on your break.
It also prime your fuel pump...

“The center of the windshield remains intact”- yes, because good wiper blades shatter the window.
After you get your car unstuck from wherever you are, don’t just drive off without your tire jack! Either take it with you, or go back and get it!!

Came here for this:
Doesn’t the noise from the AC at max drive you crazy?

Getting confused with the hot tap when you might have to wait for the hot water to come through. Electicity is a little different.
Might need jumper cables after you try his winter starting procidure.
i love when he said to use your tirejack to raise the car to place branches and stuff under them, in sweden most new car don't come with a tirejack or even a spare tire. mine is 3 years old and got a compressor and some foam to inject in the flat tire.
That's all I got with my new car too. I've already used the foam.
This is normal.
yeah unless your car can't manually shift so then you got to use cruise control

When parking on a hill, always turn your wheels towards the curb so if it rolls, it will hit the curb first
The stepped boundary between a road and a pavement is called a kerb. Curb means to hold back on, ie., Curb Your Enthusiasm.
5:51 and don't forget your car Jack 😂
This tip is for cars with an automatic transmission, when you drive down the hill it's better to slide the gear stick from D to 2 to prevent overheating and damaging your brakes
My mechanic said it's better to use your brakes than to change to a lower gear; brakes are a lot cheaper to replace than a transmission!
The tip about turning the wheel when stuck applies only to front and AWD vehicles. Makes no difference on a rear wheel drive.
true
It does even on rear trans
Very true
if it's real, not syncro AWD, then you will get out of the mud/sand anyways
Uhh, actually, it does make a big difference. If your wheels are pointed anywhere except straight ahead, you're not getting unstuck.
Why on earth it popped up in my recommendation list. *W A S T E !!*
4:52 thats, not how electricity works. It is not a fluid like gasoline, and you don't need to cycle it through anything. If anything, turning the high beams on for a second will make the car LESS likely to start, because it will drain the battery.
At first, I was like ok, then it got worse. Finally, I went to the comments and then it all made sense! 👌🏽 Thanks comments!

#5 is a sure sign that you know NOTHING ABOUT ANYTHING!
Turning on the high beams only runs the current to the headlights and no other part of the system in the car.
@@RaymondHng well the trick itself is good but he explained it wrong. it does only help to start the car. it basically gets the ions in the battery moving, so you have little higher voltage when cranking.
@@matufujiwara7493 Which surely would happen after the starter motor has turned once (as the start motor pulls way more power than the lights) anyway?
As an auto technician I feel I should say correct on the A/C compressor turns at the same speed as the engine RPM, and run the A/C for 15 minutes EVERYDAY not just a couple of seconds
One thing I know is the AC Compressor turns on with the defroster on most newer vehicles. It drys the air so your windshield dries faster.
Running the compressor occasionally in the winter time keeps the shaft seal lubricated and helps prevent refrigerant leakage.
@@glennnickey3160 since the mid 90s the ac is activated running your defroster and you can have the ac running with your temp on hot and your ac system will still be working to dry the air you don't have to have the ac on cold for the system to be running.
Do a circle check to make sure all your lights and blinkers are working properly even if you live alone. That means paling somewhere you can see your lights say reflected in a big store window or asking a friend to help you.
In the morning when you start your vehicle, give it time to spread the engine to the whole engine don't start driving immediately, wait for the temperature sign to dissapear and drive
Tip: As nowadays cars engines are very glazed but it's good to start the car engine for at least 60 sec before u drive, it actually revolves engine fluid throughout.
Yes, let it idle for a short time to get good oil circulation, then drive gently for a few miles until it warms up a little.
