@@grxpe.5561no, it’s LOG. The color space was not converted to rec709 therefore it was in a logarithmic curve. Even if the container of the footage is “raw” or any other like ProRes 422 or 4444, the footage is still LOG. RAW doesn’t mean that it looks uncolored 😂. Raw just means it’s uncompressed and that you’re able to change settings such as white balance and color temperature in post.
It’s entirely subjective, I own both and the Pyxis wins overall with me…however it doesn’t hold a candle to my RED DRAGON 6K or my ALEXA, but I like the simplicity of this camera for more run and gun work.
@ that’s bizarre🥹 I 100% say the red Komodo X is a better and faster run and gun camera than the Pyxis. I have to explain lol. Image is subjective but tools it gives you is undeniably good.
Pyxis seemed more stable. Btw, BM just released a new firmware update so you can use the Blackmagic Camera app on phone or tablet as an external monitor for the Pyxis
If exposed properly and both cameras shot in their highest possible raw outputs... would be both great I'm sure. It would be good to see grades. I love how i can strip the komodo to a lens 4" body batery in my coat pocket to jump on a plain. Insanely usable and truly portable which was its purpose. The kx was created when people wanted to use the komodo beyond crash cam form. Frame io is incredible for global collaborative work but the red control app is super convenient as i set up a few tablets and phones for viewers for no cost. Pyxis looks like a great option for people to use on their projects. If someone comes to market with nothing; there are so many great options. The key is for people to know their tools inside out. There are simple solutions for every eventually that you may not know until you encounter.
Ver well said! You’re totally right bro! I think the control app is my favorite part about the red. Giving clients their own personal video village essentially . . I hope blackmagic does the same at some point
Great video! Thank you for sharing! You can't go wrong with those two cameras. I do prefer the price savings that the Pyxis offers. The money saved goes into premium accessories or plug-ins for editing the final look.
Great video! I’ve owned three Komodo’s, I’ve bought them for jobs that requested them, and then kept them. And every time I’ve sold them because the camera is so damn sad to use. I don’t know what it is, but the whole experience is just unpleasurable. And the image is nice, but it ain’t that special. It doesn’t have the dimensionality that the older dragon sensor has, and is cool but Just kinda looks like a Sony camera. Sometimes the image is really nice, but sometimes it ain’t that special. It was a great camera four years ago but today I’d rather have an Nikon Z63 and a Pyxis.
@@directorhenley they are cfast 2.0 they suck price to performance ratio I personally hate them Type B is the best. Type C great for speed but meh and type A is basically an SD card on steroids am not a fan of type A. the new type c are like cfast 2.0 in size but extremely fast. This is what BM should have used for the URSA 17K if they want to bring the size down but the heat dissipation is going to be horrendous
Thanks bro! I just quit Adobe cold turkey and started editing in Davinci. This is my first finished video in it so I still got a ways to go with some things. So I appreciate you pointing that out and the next one will be better!
Haven’t watched the whole video but switching from the Komodo x to the PYXIS will be a bad business decision, and I’m a big blackmagic fan! You will just loose a lot of money. Get an Ursa Cine as a new A Cam as a KX owner? Big YES! If you have no camera: PYXIS is the choice (If you can sell it to your clients). You own a KX but shooting a lot of Docu style videos? Get rid of both cameras, boot up times (KX) and audio options are bad + RAW only kills your storage space.
You snapped on this comment! I totally agree with everything especially about the docu shooters. Both cameras do have slower boot up times and probably isn’t the best choice for that work
@ thanks a lot man! 🙏🏻 I’ve recently bought a C400 as a Pocket 6K upgrade and noticed how amazing the log codecs of canon are, much superior to Sony codecs. They are small but you can push the hell out of them. Still miss the Blackmagic colors but canon colors are nice as well. Still blackmagic has something special and organic about their image, I prefer it over RED. No internal NDs was a dealbreaker for me as I love to shoot on vintage still lenses, the C400 best choice for me. But I miss the BRAW playback performance in post.
The playback performance frfr though! You preaching. I love blackmagic. Other than an Arri I don’t I’d ever switch to a different system. I just know it so well. Keep in mind I say that while also just now switching to Davinci. I was in premier for so long but now that I’ve switched and saw how great resolve is I might just be a Blackmagic fanboy 😂
For which one is the best quality I have to hesitate because I believe you should have shot the Pyxis at 400 iso rather than 800….. so I’m not sure how that affects the images shown here
extremely disappointing to spend 20 plus minutes doing a comparison , what were you comparing raw footage , I know my man Justing was going to say the Red its 100% better,LOL he can't mess-up that RED deal
Would be nice to see the 709 conversion at the end instead of log.
I got you on the next one!

I feel like they missed some of the best red advantages, Global shutter to name one.

Nice job on the video DH. Thank you for your hard work, and please thank your co-host!

Okay that father joke went from a 0 - 100 real quick
😂 which one? The 4 inches joke?
@directorhenley just like my father used to tear me down, I'm gonna tear the komodo down joke... Lol
@ O yeah 🤣
I think the bottom line is they're both exceptional, but the quality test here is probably the best showcase of how different they are stylistically.
Couldn't agree more. That's what I hope viewers take away from it!

Nice work brotha
Thanks homie!
They should went over low-light and noise and komodo global shutter.
I’ll do that next time for sure
@ Thanks!
In October 2024 I brought a brand new Komodo 6k for $3500 hundred bucs. Considering the camera retail cost is $4,995, I had to buy it.
O heck yeah! You couldn’t pass on a deal like that!
Ungraded RAW footage is a hard comparison. Rec 709 grade might help a lot.
I know I had a slow moment! I’m getting ready to drop the rec709 now. Would love to hear your thoughts
What do you mean about the Pro version coming soon?
It was a joke making fun of blackmagic
The card is the Komodo OG is a Cfast 2.0 card unless its a Komodo X then it will use a Cfast express card and they are Cfast express type B not A

Red Komodo hands down.
I ain’t gone lie. It really surprised me how much I like it

What the Pyxis has that the Komodo doesn’t have? Rolling shutter! It has one of the worst rolling shutout there.

Hi! What adapter with wireless do you use for Komodo???
Yo! It's a Vaxis Storm V mount adapter

Why did u choose to show raw at the end we literally can’t tell
Cause I can’t color red footage to save my life 😂
