I’ve been a cosmetologist and educator for a long time. I get so frustrated with some of the videos of chemical processes and the directions given… with that said. When I tell youuuuu, she rolled the HELLLL-O out of your hair and gave the proper instruction. She’s from the old school and knows exactly what she’s doing. I do about 1-2 a week of the wave nouveau. And to piggyback on another comment ( no pun intended), yes!!!! A lot of so called “naturals get this procedure. She is awesome. Tell her so please. Great video mama. Blessings. Btw this is NOT a Gina curl. It’s a wave nouveau. Times vary dependent on client’s hair. Not all of them are 6 hours. This young lady has a lot of hair.

It came out beautiful. This is a Wave Nouveau (a curly perm), a drier type of Jeri Curl, it's not as greasy or wet. I am a hairstylist in NYC and I use to do a lot of these during the late 80s/90s and also other perms, body waves and retexturizing services. One of my sisters loved getting this done. It's a long procedure and it also depends on your hair texture.

    • @purplegirl8036

It’s funny because people with straight hair call permanent wave a curly perm. Isn’t it a curl reducer?

    • @eonlinehelp
      @eonlinehelp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

@@purplegirl8036 Yes, that too. It depends on the texture and what the client wants to achieve. The chemicals break the peptide bonds down to allow the strands to be restructured by using the rods. The size of the rods make a Huge diff in how the curls come out. This procedure can be used to create or relax the tightness of ones curl pattern.

I remember back in the day when EVERYBODY used the Wave Neuvo or Hawaiian Silky. You did the right thing by going to an older stylist to get it done, they really know what they are doing. Although it’s too late now for you, but I was wondering if you ever had a smoothing treatment done? My friend gets her daughters done and it’s perfect for her super thick hair. The best thing is it eventually reverts back to its natural state. It loosens her curl pattern to make her hair manageable and soft. Then probably about 4-5 washings it reverts back to her natural state. I’m considering getting the treatment done to mine soon. Yours came out so beautifully. 😍

I got the Gina curl 4xs and it's the exact process except they put you under the dryer to set the perm. They are very secretive of the products they use. Products appear in unlabeled containers. Same outcome, growth but gina changes $550 minimum and up.
FYI I don't recommend the Gina curl for thin or low porosity hair because the "touch ups" includes placing the Thio-based cream on the entire hair which ends up thinning the hair, increase shedding (not from roots just weaker strands) and your curl will never be the same pattern as your 1st one.
Don't believe all the Gina curl TH-cam sponsors

Washing and combing my hair hurts my hands so much and whenever i tell people this and say I want to get a relaxer they tell me I'm quitting or being lazy. Like I want to tell them to come live with my hair for a year and see how they feel. I love my hair but it is not easy to manage.

Both of you are thinking far too deep into a simple sentence & making it political. I’m indigenous. I know the importance of hair, I’m not allowed to cut mine. She’s apologized and gave disclosures multiple times throughout the video in case of backlash or judgment for doing what SHE wants with HER hair. So let’s get political then. Society places a lot of standards on women of color, especially black women. Perming your hair is frowned upon these days. Big chopping or having a fade is seen as less attractive. So since 3 simple words were interpreted into something extra I’ll simply explain. It means exactly & only what I said. It’s just hair. If it becomes damaged or if she chooses to big chop again she can bc it’s her crown and it will grow back.

How often would you have to go back to do the treatment for new growth? Like if new growth comes in, will the processed hair snap off?

These comments are very interesting , but I will say thank you for this video. I just cut off my locs and I currently have a twa that is very hard to manage and “wash and gos” are not that simple for me. I say I’m a 4E as in Extra hard to manage because not only is my hair thick, but I happen to have the most tightly wound spiral 🌀 curl and tbh it’s beautiful and maddening at the same darn time. 🤦🏽‍♀️
When you’re building a business, a single mother, and pursuing other endeavors in life, sometimes you need a life hack. So people can say what they want, but 4c girls have to do wayyyyy more to maintain moisture and get the look they desire. Some of us are too busy for it, so we opt out and it is what it is. This video may have saved my hair because I am 2 seconds from getting a relaxer. So again thanks for unapologetically exposing your true curl pattern and transformation.

@BreeYah I’m extremely tender headed. I can only do braids for so long and that’s also one of the many reasons I gave up on locs. Too much tension during the re-twist process. I cut my hair about every 2.5 years or so anyway… not on purpose, but I’m noticing a trend. 😆 Thankfully it grows right back, so anything I do is probably temporary anyway.

This is a Wave Nouveau; popular in the U.S. back in the 80s along with the Jherri curl which has tighter curls and is wetter/messier.

I wore my hair natural for over 30 years. At 68 I just couldn't keep it up any more. I just had a professional put in a wave Nuevo yesterday. It's quite nice. It tingle a little but no burning . So far much easier. It was almost as long as hers. I will always love natural black hair. Looking for up keep ideas.

I love that ppl are embracing this style because this is how my natural hair looks and blk women/ men always asked me why I didn’t do my hair or why I got the Michael Jackson or Jheri curls which was totally ignorant and would hurt my feelings but as wigs became popular everyone wanted a wet n wavy so I love it do you and don’t give a damn what ppl think it’s your god given head full of hair and you should love it whatever way you wear it . I love yo stylist she old school cuz these new age stylist are trash with not washing hair wanting all yo money but not doing real work.

What's funny is I've watched so many pin straight hair girlies get curly perms and everyone is like 'oh so cute' or whatever. As soon as a type 4 does the same it's rampant controversy. And I get it; hair is a big part of our culture and and big part of how people perceive us and how we perceive others but I'd really wish we could all just do whatever with our natural hair and ppl just go 'oh, that's nice' or 'not a fan but you do you!' And just call it a day honestly. Because, it really is JUST hair for most of us.

Nice! I’m feeling these results! I gave up relaxers back in 2008 because of the chemicals, so I probably won’t be trying this because of the chemicals, so I’ll just live vicariously thru other ppl’s vids! Ha! Thanks for sharing!

Hello sis, your hair is soo beautiful 😃😃. My question is after sometime, can the hair go back to 4b type hair, or it is permanent? If you stop using the products, will the hair go back to it natural texture?

  • @Sailorlluna

Beautiful!!! Before I decided on getting sisterlocks so I could be natural still but not need to detangle and do anything to my hair, I thought about this but in the end this was a little bit more commitment than I wanted bc you have to get your new growth done every couple months and i’m lazy. But i’m glad you found something that works well for you.

That's what happened to me. I couldn't afford to get my hair touched up and after my roots were thick and waving my permed hair wasn't strong and fell out. So i cut all my hair off.
