Everyone entitled to do what they want with their hair. Hairstyle change doesn't always equate to self-hate. Hair can be an expression of style just like changing clothes. Love your hair no matter what you do to it. Natural, kinky, curly, braided, weaved up, I love all expressions of me.
I agree, I wouldn’t personally do this, because I’d never want to have a perm, but I think having perms can make it easier and quicker to maintain natural hair.

Some of us work a 9-5, have kids, & working on a college degree on top of that.
You gotta do what’s best for you and say to hell with the rest. I wear my hair natural and I still get flack from other black people, but I don’t give a damn because it’s my hair and I’ll do what I want to it.
Totally feel you, I’m struggling with getting this, a keratin treatment or straight up perm. Hope you’re doing what works best with your lifestyle and schedule
My hair is bra length 4a. I’ve been natural 15yrs. I’m over it!! Getting a texturizer tomorrow!!! Bald headed bxtches always got something to say! It’s always the dirty tennis ball heads that doesn’t understand our type of stress!
She reminds me of an Aunt/family friend. I was thinking the same thing and then I noticed @13:38 and the slightly heavy- handed scalp “massage” and don’t want to relive that childhood trauma. I still want her to do it, I would ask if someone else could wash out my hair
It came out beautiful. This is a Wave Nouveau (a curly perm), a drier type of Jeri Curl, it's not as greasy or wet. I am a hairstylist in NYC and I use to do a lot of these during the late 80s/90s and also other perms, body waves and retexturizing services. One of my sisters loved getting this done. It's a long procedure and it also depends on your hair texture.
@@purplegirl8036 Yes, that too. It depends on the texture and what the client wants to achieve. The chemicals break the peptide bonds down to allow the strands to be restructured by using the rods. The size of the rods make a Huge diff in how the curls come out. This procedure can be used to create or relax the tightness of ones curl pattern.
Yes, those who know - KNOW! I always liked the look of the Wave Nouveau. I never had it done (relaxed) but my sister did. Her long hair broke off and got a Jeri Curl then moved on to the wave. Her hair grew down her back too.
I remember back in the day when EVERYBODY used the Wave Neuvo or Hawaiian Silky. You did the right thing by going to an older stylist to get it done, they really know what they are doing. Although it’s too late now for you, but I was wondering if you ever had a smoothing treatment done? My friend gets her daughters done and it’s perfect for her super thick hair. The best thing is it eventually reverts back to its natural state. It loosens her curl pattern to make her hair manageable and soft. Then probably about 4-5 washings it reverts back to her natural state. I’m considering getting the treatment done to mine soon. Yours came out so beautifully. 😍
do you know what the smoothing treatment is called? I have 4B/C hair that only got to my tailbone by low manipulation for 5 years, but it's SO thick i just keep it put up. keep fantasizing about perming it but know id regret it....
@@RubeeRoja She said it’s an Amino-Acid Smoothing treatment, and that most hairstylist will know exactly what you’re talking about. I think I might get one as well. Thick hair is a gift and a curse. 🥴
I got one - although my hair type is fine/thin. It really cuts down time for washing, detangling and blowdry. I'd never think of getting a relaxer now!
@@SnowofLight Thanks for your comment. That’s making me want to get one even more. To hear two different opinions with opposite volumes of hair speak highly of the same thing. I’m sold.
It came out beautiful, my mom is a beautician and she’s old school this is all she did was jerry curls growing up I was surprised she didn’t use the white papers while rodding the hair. It looks very nice and whatever it takes for you to be happy with your hair it’s 2022 I say do it!
She was supposed to use the white papers. It stops the ends from frizzing later on. She also was supposed to use a tip bottle to saturate each roller after she squeezed the water out.
I had a coworker that would sing 100% natural, year passed we became close bonded over appreciation of our different curls and art. Her hair leans more to 4a/4b, I am 4b/4c. One day my sister and I went for silk press. I see my coworker and she's getting the same process done. I was confused, but to each their own plus her hair stay on point.
I love how the hairstylist takes pride of her work. She really cares about her brand as a stylist. Make me feel comfortable to allow her to do this process to my hair
Just got my curl. My hair did nothing in its natural state even after buying thousands of dollars of products. Now my hair feels so light and soft. I will not go back unless it is scalp short. I was constantly in the mirror trying to please myself. Now I let the beautician take care of it.
Giirrrrllll, your hair looks gorgeous and super easy to maintain with minimal product. I need this in my life like today. Thank you for your video, you and the stylist was so informative and helpful throughout the entire process.
I absolutely LOVE your hair! I’ve been a natural girl several years now. I wouldn’t mind getting a “curl” as we used to call it back in the day… It is nostalgic but it is so timeless the way that you are wearing it! Thanks for sharing…
Girl it’s your hair do you, as long as you maintain your hair with the right products you will be fine, I think it’s too much pressure nowadays to be natural but people lack maintenance
It's nothing wrong with getting a curly perm honey especially if your a busy person and really don't have time to do your own hair. It's very pretty 💜💜💜💜💜
Girl, you make me want to go back to this style. 😆 This natural hair stuff is getting to be too much. The stylist was fantastic, it came out 😍 beautiful. She definitely understood the assignment!
this is how I felt about my natural hair it was so thick I couldn't manage it I got a straightening perm after it being natural for a year and bra star length. I hated the straight hair and I shaved it all off. I'm back on my journey and im very excited. I have 3c/4a hair I think
It’s your hair & it’s JUST hair. It came out really great. Ik exactly how you feel when it comes to managing super curly, thick, long hair. And the lady was amazing, very thorough ❤️
Both of you are thinking far too deep into a simple sentence & making it political. I’m indigenous. I know the importance of hair, I’m not allowed to cut mine. She’s apologized and gave disclosures multiple times throughout the video in case of backlash or judgment for doing what SHE wants with HER hair. So let’s get political then. Society places a lot of standards on women of color, especially black women. Perming your hair is frowned upon these days. Big chopping or having a fade is seen as less attractive. So since 3 simple words were interpreted into something extra I’ll simply explain. It means exactly & only what I said. It’s just hair. If it becomes damaged or if she chooses to big chop again she can bc it’s her crown and it will grow back.
I remember getting this done in my teenage years, now that Im fully natural I've realized I do have naturally super curly hair I just never knew how to take care of it. Also I realized that my hair texture changed slightly when I cut the curls perm out. Overall maintenance with the curl perm was super easy.
Everything you said in the beginning is literally me. I have 4b/4c hair and last year I went to the doctor with pain in my wrist after a wash day and was told i have carpal tunnel. Washing and combing my hair hurts my hands so much and whenever i tell people this and say I want to get a relaxer they tell me I'm quitting or being lazy. Like I want to tell them to come live with my hair for a year and see how they feel. I love my hair but it is not easy to manage.
Nah, do what you gotta do. I've always wondered how ppl will be natural when they get older. Carpal tunnel is a normal thing that can occur at any age but what about when we all turn 80. Will we all have time to comb our hair for 2 hrs?
@@pink1237480 then you need to find an easier hair routine and maybe use different products. Natural hair is only hard if you don’t know anything about it or don’t know what you’re doing
Gina Curl trying to play like she is the original! And her process is different! Please! She charging 700 bucks and plus. And here we have a experienced beautician who even said get someone who is "old school". She is mostly speaking about the health and preservation of this young lady hair. That's what I'm talking about! Wave Nouveau and Jerry Curl is from the 80's. I always prefer old school beautician to cut and color my hair. Don't sleep on them. Almost all of the hair horror stories are from these young IG girls who could care less and just about the coin.
@@nottodaylilbaldhead i gues what she got is actually better because she said she can straighten it after some time. I heard you can’t use a hot comb on gina curl
I got the Gina curl 4xs and it's the exact process except they put you under the dryer to set the perm. They are very secretive of the products they use. Products appear in unlabeled containers. Same outcome, growth but gina changes $550 minimum and up. FYI I don't recommend the Gina curl for thin or low porosity hair because the "touch ups" includes placing the Thio-based cream on the entire hair which ends up thinning the hair, increase shedding (not from roots just weaker strands) and your curl will never be the same pattern as your 1st one. Don't believe all the Gina curl TH-cam sponsors
How long does it last? I’m considering doing this because I have been growing my hair out but I’m kind of too used to the texture that I have and I want to try something different but I also don’t want to straighten my hair lol
We all know our own hair...how we maintain it ourselves and how much time we have. You made a great choice. Life is all about choices honey. You look fabulous with the curly perm.
This stylist reminds me of my favorite teacher from cosmetology school. Those old school stylists explain things so thoroughly and kindly. Watch her wrap your hair shows this lady has true experience and technique. Love her! Your hair turned out so beautifully!!
We bringing the Jheri Curl back!!! Leisure curl in high school!!! You couldn’t tell me nothing!!! My aunt was the best hair dresser with the Leisure curls in Southwest Detroit. You will have to touch your hair up every three months to keep it looking fresh.
Instead of it being called a wave nouveau, it's now called a curly perm :) I had this way back in day, the 80's. If you take care of this properly, your hair will grow longer because of the moisture. My hair is thick , course and long also. I didn't lose a strain of hair. It grew even more. To me, the old products are still the best.
@@cthompson000 The best person to ask is a licensed stylist for product suggestions for maintenance. But I will say is use a moisture shampoo, wide tooth comb and a satin cap at night to keep your hair from drying and breaking. The key is to keep the wave nouveau moisturized and go to a professional for upkeep.
I’ve thought about getting one of these, but I’m so nervous. One girl was telling her story about how her hair just started snapping off at the perm line one day. I would be devastated 😩
I love it so much never knew this was possible I honestly thought white women did this. I now want to try this. Your hair looks amazing I am loving those curls so much. Thank you so much for this video
I feel like the reason some perm is to aim for a hair texture the person finds more appealing to them. Although they should understand that your hair texture you have originally is fine too. There’s nothing wrong with the hair texture you once had. You just need to learn to take care of it. This goes for any hair type. 2,3,&4. Your hair is beautiful regardless what you do just learn to accept your hair type without comparing to othets
Girl this looks good! Reminds me of an updated version of a Jerry Curl! It's your hair so don't feel bad about your choice. Your stylist was very thorough and informative! Thanks for sharing!
It is a Jheri curl! They have different brands! This has been around! I had this exact thing in the early 90's! This particular brand gave more leeway to reverse it...wear it straight or curly!
@Sweetzs100 it can be! You alter the bonds just the same! The lady doing hers just didn't straighten it as much during that first step, but that straightens the hair! Relaxers and Curls(Perms) can mess you up if you do them wrong!! Relaxers have just been given a bad name because people misuse them and everyone in on the natural movement! I had these styles and have done them as a Cosmetologist!
Day 2 looks cute but trust me when I say you wanna use the lotion every single day. Every single day. Avoid the breakage in the future by using the lotion every single day. ❤
I feel you, but not necessarily! The moisturizing spray should be used daily! The lotion or curl activator doesn't have to be, but does need to be used for conditioning and to make the curls pop!
Her hair! Her choice! Hopes she takes care with the home maintenance products! I used to see lots of oily aftercare and acne, on wearers of jheri curls, back in the day! Hopefully aftercare technology has come a long way to prevent this occurring. 🙏🏾
That stuff broke my hair out so bad. It started getting very brittle & dry, then started breaking in small sections until it finally broke off all over. I tried this perm in high school the 1st time( back in the 90's) then again about 10 yes later with the same result. The perm made my hair beautiful at first but I ended up big chopping my hair off. I was sick for weeks. I guess it has a different effect on everyone individually
When these chemicals are applied correctly & you cover your hair at night to maintain moisture, there's not any breakage to speak of. This is a jheri curl. I had one in the 80's and my hair grew out just fine.
@@demekonrn Sis, that's exactly the Jheri Curls that we wore back in the day. My hair grew like crazy but, when I got tired of the Jheri Curl, I had to cut my hair down to the roots and start my hair growth journey over again. If you keep your hair moisturized; and continue to get a retouch you shouldn't have any breakage and, I most definitely wouldn't pay no more than $150 for one either. People are getting ripped off paying more than that because they don't know anything about the origins of the Jheri Curl.
@@demekonrn there’s no way to not have damage with those chemicals that are breaking down your hair for a looser pattern. like the fact that it loosens your hair alone is damage. even if you minimize it over time it will get very dry. i’ve seen it way too many times

gurl, yes, carefree curl with gel activator...lol, used cream mainly, so that it was natural feeling...omg, didn't it seem that the hair became juicy in the plastic cap...lol
Its a wave nouveau! It was on the packaging she used. I had one for years. Its ok as long as you as dont want to go back to straight hair. If you do it, keep it or be ready for hair damage when you change back...but for some people its worth it so yea, to each her own...I'll just rod my flat twists up for a day or two of this look instead of the other way around...
Jerry Curl, Carefree Curl, Leisure Curl, TCB Curl, and the list goes on ... very few things are new. They're just repackaged & sold all over again. Happy that it works for you. I remember as a child, my mother would never allow me to get on. My hair is similar to yours but with a lot more volume and frizz. Smiles.
It looks so good! My friend did this years ago but it was too much work for her & caused damage so she ended up doing the big chop again so I decided to leave it alone, but love the way it looks!
That's what happened to me. I couldn't afford to get my hair touched up and after my roots were thick and waving my permed hair wasn't strong and fell out. So i cut all my hair off.
Nice! I’m feeling these results! I gave up relaxers back in 2008 because of the chemicals, so I probably won’t be trying this because of the chemicals, so I’ll just live vicariously thru other ppl’s vids! Ha! Thanks for sharing!
Your hair is beautiful both ways. The smell will go away. I had this kind of perm yrs ago. Just make sure you feel it moisturized and get your touch up on time so it don't start to thin out. I love the outcome!!
You know what, I was JUST trying to brush my hair thinking it's soooo challenging to do with my fragile wrists, so it's partly brushed through and all back in a bundle. Then your video comes up! This looks beautiful and doesn't look damaged; anddd must be so much easier to manage.
FACTS. I'm done with natural hair and dreads. I grew my hair for 10 years. cut my hair tried straight perm but that didn't work. Curly perm is MORE softening up my natural hair. It's super soft, the waves are GORGEOUS. I find people staring at me to try to figure out my hair. But I just need to save TIME and also I don't have time trying all these products. I'm OLD SCHOOL. I am super thankful that you shared your experience. I was looking for something like this but it's been so long I wasn't keeping up. I LOVE it. Thank you girl for sharing your story. These comments are very interesting , but I will say thank you for this video. I just cut off my locs and I currently have a twa that is very hard to manage and “wash and gos” are not that simple for me. I say I’m a 4E as in Extra hard to manage because not only is my hair thick, but I happen to have the most tightly wound spiral 🌀 curl and tbh it’s beautiful and maddening at the same darn time. 🤦🏽♀️ When you’re building a business, a single mother, and pursuing other endeavors in life, sometimes you need a life hack. So people can say what they want, but 4c girls have to do wayyyyy more to maintain moisture and get the look they desire. Some of us are too busy for it, so we opt out and it is what it is. This video may have saved my hair because I am 2 seconds from getting a relaxer. So again thanks for unapologetically exposing your true curl pattern and transformation.
@BreeYah I’m extremely tender headed. I can only do braids for so long and that’s also one of the many reasons I gave up on locs. Too much tension during the re-twist process. I cut my hair about every 2.5 years or so anyway… not on purpose, but I’m noticing a trend. 😆 Thankfully it grows right back, so anything I do is probably temporary anyway.

The key is night prep. It makes combing and styling in the morning easier. If you go to sleep with hair all over your head it takes twice as long to get it how you want it. Detangle and put into 4-8 twist or braids. Cover with satin or silk scarf. See if that makes a difference.

What's funny is I've watched so many pin straight hair girlies get curly perms and everyone is like 'oh so cute' or whatever. As soon as a type 4 does the same it's rampant controversy. And I get it; hair is a big part of our culture and and big part of how people perceive us and how we perceive others but I'd really wish we could all just do whatever with our natural hair and ppl just go 'oh, that's nice' or 'not a fan but you do you!' And just call it a day honestly. Because, it really is JUST hair for most of us.

It does smell but it went away. I will not wash until 2 weeks. I'll then treat it with a mayonnaise treatment
She’s a wonderful hairstylist. She explains thoroughly while putting emphasis on your hair. Looks beautiful! 🌷
I wanna get either this or a straight perm bc long 4c hair is SO HARD TO MANAGE 😭
But at the same time not bc of the bs ik I'll recieve from the black community. It's always some "she don't love herself. she trying to be white (etc.)" 🙄
Just bc you have every hour of the day time to do ur hair doesn't mean we all do.
4c hair is no joke. I don't know what to do with mine.
My hair is bra length 4a. I’ve been natural 15yrs. I’m over it!! Getting a texturizer tomorrow!!! Bald headed bxtches always got something to say! It’s always the dirty tennis ball heads that doesn’t understand our type of stress!
Do you sista. People always have something to say, and their own life is a mess.
Give sis a TH-cam channel she explained everything she was doing fluently she definitely has been doing this for years.
Your stylist was wonderful, such a professional and so full of knowledge. Your hair looks beautiful!
i appreciate how detailed oriented & careful she is w/ the hair .. if i get this done , i want to go to HER!
Same!
Where is she located ?

It’s funny because people with straight hair call permanent wave a curly perm. Isn’t it a curl reducer?
@@purplegirl8036 Yes, that too. It depends on the texture and what the client wants to achieve. The chemicals break the peptide bonds down to allow the strands to be restructured by using the rods. The size of the rods make a Huge diff in how the curls come out. This procedure can be used to create or relax the tightness of ones curl pattern.
Yes, those who know - KNOW! I always liked the look of the Wave Nouveau. I never had it done (relaxed) but my sister did. Her long hair broke off and got a Jeri Curl then moved on to the wave. Her hair grew down her back too.
My mom was a hair stylist and man that Jheri curl smell is a core memory for real lol 😂
Where is your salon? Do you do this on short hair?
@@Zariyah_Nicole it sure is! 😅🥴 thanks so much!!
I’m sold.
They call it curly perm in Canada. In USA this is old school and is called a Jerry Curl or Wave Nouveau and was heavily worn in the 80s
Wave Nouveau was the brand they used
I forgot all about Wave Nouveau. The products.
It’s called a Gina Curl these days.
I used to get my hair done like this back in the day…lol.
Canadians called it a jherri curl too. I think they are just renaming the style, so it doesn't seem old school.
It came out beautiful, my mom is a beautician and she’s old school this is all she did was jerry curls growing up I was surprised she didn’t use the white papers while rodding the hair. It looks very nice and whatever it takes for you to be happy with your hair it’s 2022 I say do it!
Ya she said in the video that she chooses not to use the white paper for longer hair length
And with the beauty of her face, ugh it’s very pretty 🤩
She was supposed to use the white papers. It stops the ends from frizzing later on. She also was supposed to use a tip bottle to saturate each roller after she squeezed the water out.
I had a coworker that would sing 100% natural, year passed we became close bonded over appreciation of our different curls and art. Her hair leans more to 4a/4b, I am 4b/4c. One day my sister and I went for silk press. I see my coworker and she's getting the same process done. I was confused, but to each their own plus her hair stay on point.
Just read this comment after I posted mine. I thought this was a jerry curl! Nostalgia!
She did a wonderful job and explained the process in detail. Your hair looks beautiful.
I just love this lady that did your hair! She embraced the camera too like “come, get a better look” lol… she was awesome!
I love how the hairstylist takes pride of her work. She really cares about her brand as a stylist. Make me feel comfortable to allow her to do this process to my hair
Your stylist is so sweet! She’s very knowledgeable as well. Your hair looks great!
This lady styling the hair is just great I love her she give out good tea ☕️ Thankyou girl
Love me a old school stylist! Knowledge & Customer service is unmatched. If you see them marcel irons you know you getting taken care of of
This lady is a wonderful teacher 🌻♥️ bless her heart & her hands
It’s just a Jheri curl hun! It’s beautiful though. I had it when I was a kid. Grow your hair really fast if you take care of it!
I was waiting for someone who knew what it was…. Ole school Jheri is back ❤️
I was saying the same thing.... so the Jerri Curl back
Thats what i need i cut my hair and regret it now its taking forever to grow back i miss my ponytails😭
I thought that was a Jheri curl
Jerri curl is wetter and smaller curls...but what she has is wave nouveau or cold curl. I had it done some years ago.
So no, I refuse to judge her for doing what she wants with her own hair. Short, long, permed, natural- her life her choice.

@Trinity M she literally wasn’t talking to or about you
@Trinity M Girl that's you! We over here doing us
I remember getting this done in my teenage years, now that Im fully natural I've realized I do have naturally super curly hair I just never knew how to take care of it.
Please purchase an EZ Brush, and before you wash your hair put Aloe Vera and coconut oil in your hair.
You just need to find an easier hair routine and products. Type four hair IS easy to manage if you know what you’re doing
be in my hair for a year and see how easy you think it is. I have 3c hair btw
@@pink1237480 then you need to find an easier hair routine and maybe use different products. Natural hair is only hard if you don’t know anything about it or don’t know what you’re doing
What I like the most was your stylist explaining every details.
Is this not a Gina curl that she got?
@@rosepetals6895 no it's not.
@@nicolabrown2766 oh wow really?….i was really considering getting a gina….
I had this back in the mid 2000s and my hair was BOMB! This video makes me want to get it done again

How long does it last? I’m considering doing this because I have been growing my hair out but I’m kind of too used to the texture that I have and I want to try something different but I also don’t want to straighten my hair lol
@@jakiemiabayer7529 its permanent

@@sweetzs100 I’ve seen from other comments unfortunately it is of you don’t maintain it, you will def have to do a big chop if you don’t keep up.

You made a great choice. Life is all about choices honey. You look fabulous with the curly perm.
The sanchez "i care for you" playing in the background was about to put me in a mood
It turned it amazing! I feel like curly perm is best on thick hair. It would look too sparse on thin hair. It looks so nice on you 😍🥰😍
This stylist reminds me of my favorite teacher from cosmetology school.
I'm compelled to make an appointment with this woman. Such talented gentle hands and she explained it all! And took her time.
Thank you I just told someone this 👏🏽
It's the same thing but a Milder Formula.
Can you advise us how you took care of it properly?
@@cthompson000 The best person to ask is a licensed stylist for product suggestions for maintenance. But I will say is use a moisture shampoo, wide tooth comb and a satin cap at night to keep your hair from drying and breaking. The key is to keep the wave nouveau moisturized and go to a professional for upkeep.
I’ve thought about getting one of these, but I’m so nervous. One girl was telling her story about how her hair just started snapping off at the perm line one day. I would be devastated 😩
this is true
Yup it happened to me. Better to just relax it
Yea I see that happen a lot with people who get these. It gets really crispy lol the way it looks the day of the process only last the first week
Yeah my hair is 4a/b it's thick but fine. I'm nervous it'll break off as well
Lol poor girl. She was uneducated about curly perm maintenance. My mom's curly perm is to her but crack.
She did a great job. Also very knowledgeable and professional!
As a stylist her wrapping technique brought me sooooo much satisfaction. Your hair looks amazing 👏🏽 😍
I love it so much never knew this was possible I honestly thought white women did this. I now want to try this. Your hair looks amazing I am loving those curls so much. Thank you so much for this video
White woman do it too most of the time black people get waves/looser curls permed and white people usually get hair straightened or curled
It’s a jherri curl!
It's called a curl or wave Nuevo growing up. My mom use to do this to her hair lol
Jhericurl sis
Jheri Curl
Is this damaging like a relaxer? Or healthier
That's what I was thinking
Bingo
Definitely keep us updated on this too! I want to see how you like it further down the line. It looks so good😍
I hope she does! I’m natural and HATE dealing with my hair so I always wear wigs. This video has me seriously considering trying the curly perm
Day 2 looks cute but trust me when I say you wanna use the lotion every single day. Every single day. Avoid the breakage in the future by using the lotion every single day. ❤
Lol sounds like a line from Silence of the Lambs 😆 USE THE LOTION every day💀!!
I’m sorry
Red Dragon!
I feel you, but not necessarily! The moisturizing spray should be used daily! The lotion or curl activator doesn't have to be, but does need to be used for conditioning and to make the curls pop!
@@c.williams3480 ahhh
Her hair!
Exactly why I don’t wanna try it 😭😭
Please don’t try this. It’s not black owned anymore. It took my hair out too. They have changed the formulas.
No shade but this sounds like you had an allergic reaction.
Might not work for you but works for others. But good to see different reaction.
I have had a curly perm for 30 years
I wouldn’t do this because I’m afraid of the breakage, but it looks cute!
My grandma had one for 20 years and her hair was down her back. Like colored or relaxed hair you just have to provide additional care.
@@preciousallen2713 There are always exceptions. i’m happy for your grandma but this is not the case for most and shouldn’t be taken as a guarantee

It looks so good! My friend did this years ago but it was too much work for her & caused damage so she ended up doing the big chop again so I decided to leave it alone, but love the way it looks!

What made it too much work for your friend? Like maintaining it?
That's what happened to me. I couldn't afford to get my hair touched up and after my roots were thick and waving my permed hair wasn't strong and fell out. So i cut all my hair off.
I use to rock a wave nouveau back in the day. It really grows your hair if you keep up with the maintenance.
Basically, when you use any relaxer and rinse it out before recommended straightening time, you will have a nice wavy soft curl and that is okay!
You're curls are beautiful😍 It looks like a curly wig and that lip gloss is definitely poppin😍 Great video 😍
WAVE NOUVEAU is the real deal.
Love it! Jerry Curl is what we use to call it back in the day!
When you’re building a business, a single mother, and pursuing other endeavors in life, sometimes you need a life hack.
I had this in high school and babeeeee your hair will grow!!!!!!!

This is a Wave Nouveau; popular in the U.S. back in the 80s along with the Jherri curl which has tighter curls and is wetter/messier.
Omg I’m so old that when my mother did this to my hair I hated it, back when they were called beauticians and actually cared more about the hair more than money… it was a Jheri curl but everybody thought it was my natural texture. My hair isn’t even super kinky it was just the trend back then for parents to do this 😂😂 now y’all just doing it all willy nilly 😂😂 I actually like it now though
It’s hard to find an old school beautician
I love it! It looks great on you. I’m looking to do this as well. I’ve been natural for 5 years and I’m looking for a way to just manage my hair better. I have 4b/c hair. I’m definitely going to be looking for updates on how it is working for you. I also liked how the stylist was very informative. Thanks for sharing 🥰
If you do, go to an older stylist whose been doing curly perms for decades.
My grandma use to wear a jerry curl back in the day , her hair use to be poppin and juicy asf 😭😭 i been thinking about getting one to fix my curls

your hair looks amazing. It honestly does not matter what you do with your hair natural or chemically treated JUST MAINTAIN.
No I love my natural texture however I be late to work trying to stuff my hair in a bun like it’s hard to manage. Do what makes you happy and your life easier lol

Yes my hair is literally the same!! It’s so thick. The same texture. I just need relief😩
